I used to work at a bank. When my boss was first showing me around he pointed out some filing cabinets and I almost told him how easy it is to pick the locks on those things. Fortunately, I realized soon enough that you probably don't want to tell your new boss about some of the skills you've picked up 😉
I worked at an accounting firm. While moving things around, the keys to one of the filing cabinets went missing. I looked at the mechanism in one of the unlocked cabinets, and realized I could just lift the locking bar with a ruler. My boss was not happy. He actually believed they were secure storage containers, despite the thin sheet metal and cheap locks.
Richard Feynman famously (within a certain sub culture) was deemed a security risk at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project, when he demonstrated the same skill on filing cabinets containing classified documents. Of course he was already cleared to view said documents, but just taught himself lock picking to ease the boredom of living isolated from civilization in the middle of the desert. He was the most interesting scientist of the 20th century.

I was also contemplating buying a lock picking kit on Amazon. Then I came to think of TH-cam and the first video I watched was this one. I made the tools and after five minutes I was able to open the lock! What a hack! I'm really proud of myself. The lock I had was like yours but upside down. Thanks a million for making this video!

jethro fanoga In my case I was able to use the plastic card trick, sliding it in the crack to move the bolt. Of course that means it was a little too easy to get in. :)
As someone with a regular fear of forgetting my keys or grabbing the wrong ones, knowing this makes me feel a lot better. I've seen videos of it yet never got how the pins would stay up. Now with the context of the tension applied to it and the seized pin being the only one you should move I feel like I get the theory. Thank you for the clarity.
It would be wise to practice the skill before you need it, though. It's a lot more difficult when you can't see what you're doing, even if you understand the theory.

No half-hour meaningless face time; no stupid camera work; no rambling. I HATE having to suffer through someone's childish attempts to be noticed. Why would someone produce something like this for free? I understood how and WHY in no time. I respect the producer.

You probably won't be able to pick those locks any decent door lock is much more difficult to pick and need more complicated tools. But if your house is locked with a cheap bicycle lock you will be fine!

I did this cuz the door locked behind me as I was moving in, and all I had left was hair pins from my car. No phone. No car keys. Both were inside. Nothing but the hairpins. It was deadass of summer and it was humid so I said “fuck it, I’ll be out here picking the lock until it opens or my landlord comes” (he gets back from work around 6, it was about 4 pm) I bent the hair pins and basically listened while jostling the lock. After like three minutes it worked?? I was taught via Fallout and Skyrim, lol, but helpful. Picking a lock needs to be taught in school, no joke. Might help or save ur ass one day.

If everybody knew how to pick locks, then locks (in their current form) would be useless. Lock companies would be forced to upgrade their designs to something more secure, which is good, but that would negate the point of teaching lockpicking in school.
Just tried this on my apartment door, Broke three lever pins so far. Gave up. My lock has a feature for the key that makes it impossible to get the pick to go in a certain way because the width of the pick is just a little to wide to put it in normally so i had to try it with the pick turned diagonally and sideways. Impossible to a beginner and only attemptable by a novice with a professional lock pick set

I like this video because for a long time people explain locks with vague and blurry instructions, but this is very educational in that the video clearly shows how everything works with the pins! Great work man!
Some practice advice, you can use the key to the lock you're practising on to mark out where the pins are, just mark the peak and valleys on a key to your lockpick and you the have a depth guide.

Been watching lpl / bb for a nice while and have started to discover more channels like yourself recently. I ordered a pick set and practice locks but got fed up waiting so today I taught I'd try your bobby pin pick set up. I managed to get it done after a hour or so of trying and filing down the pick. It's only a 3 pin lock but either way I'm still chuffed with myself, I now know the binding order of said lock and can now pick it in a few mins. Thank you so much for videos and clear explanation. For all those skyrim folks who haven't enough skill to open those: This is literally oblivion's lockpicking and yes you can lockpick very hard ones from the beginning of the game. And it's much more fun compared to that of skyrim.

Be gentle and do not break a hairpin off in the lock and it will not damage anything. It takes only light pressure to do this.

tumbling are on average faster, but pros can pick just as fast if not faster and quietly

I like this video because for a long time people explain locks with vague and blurry instructions, but this is very educational in that the video clearly shows how everything works with the pins! Great work man!
Some practice advice, you can use the key to the lock you're practising on to mark out where the pins are, just mark the peak and valleys on a key to your lockpick and you the have a depth guide.

Been watching lpl / bb for a nice while and have started to discover more channels like yourself recently. I ordered a pick set and practice locks but got fed up waiting so today I taught I'd try your bobby pin pick set up. I managed to get it done after a hour or so of trying and filing down the pick. It's only a 3 pin lock but either way I'm still chuffed with myself, I now know the binding order of said lock and can now pick it in a few mins. Thank you so much for videos and clear explanation. This is literally oblivion's lockpicking and yes you can lockpick very hard ones from the beginning of the game.
And it's much more fun compared to that of skyrim.

Hey man i don't think you will see this since the video is really old but i wanted to give you a special thanks, i just buy my new house and let the garage door key inside the garage using the front garage door to go out with the beeper, really bad idea because they shut down electricity until i get my new contract and i needed to access the garage to activate it!
