I came up with a way to lock a door by modifying a dinner fork. Some folks may have seen my earlier video on my channel called "portable door lock", which I made from flat 1/8" steel . The Fork Lock, however, is way easier to make. This lock is very useful when wanting to add a little extra security to a motel room, public restrooms (which often have broken locks), or on any interior, or exterior door.

Furthermore, existing locks often can easily unlocked by inserting a thin narrow object into the door handle hole. Alternatively, one can insert a credit card like object into the door edge which forces the lock to unlock. This makeshift lock however would indeed require far more effort to open.

For the people that do not have any tools at home, you can bend the handle by putting it against a table and bend the teeth with a pair of tweezers or if you don't have tweezers you can try with strong scissors but be careful. And if the handle it's too big and gets stuck easily, bend one of the teeth backward and insert the handle there.
    I hope this helps someone.

You can also convert a door lock into a fork, which is handy if you have used up your last fork by making a door lock. All you need is a crucible, some coal, a forge, and a fork shaped clay mold. Viola! Allow the fork to cool sufficiently before using.

Pretty cool, but honestly, imagine your door knob getting broken, you're hiding from Jason, but it's okay! cause you just have to grab a fork from the kitchen and you're hella lucky enough to have a vise machine nearby to bend your fork and then process to make your diy locker. If it was a video game we're dead already. Advise, make one now and have it as an emergency, actually make a few of them. Thanks, I really enjoyed learning something useful. Very interesting.

The only downside to this is that this only protects door from being swung open. It will not stop someone determined to get in. The weakest point in the door isn't the side with the lock, it is the side with the hinges. A door like the one demonstrated is hollow so locks are not that effective anyways. Front doors are generally metal or fiberglass and insulated however the frames are wood and so is the frame of the door. The hinge screws are quite small and very easy to strip out, a few kicks could do it. The safest door would be an industrial steel door with a steel frame, however even those can be opened with as little as 5 swings with a 5lb sledge hammer. If you are concerned about people breaking into your home through the front door my advice would be to get an AR-15 and learn how to use it. After that, a steel framed steel door would be a good additional security step because all it will do is buy you a few more seconds to get your AR-15. Home invasions happen fast. Never leave your windows unlocked and open at night unless they are blocked so they cannot be opened up any more. I had a neighbors daughter lock the mother out of the house and she went into panic mode because the toddler couldn't figure out how to unlock the door. She had one window open. I was able to get entry into her house in 2 minutes without damaging anything using only a butter-knife and then I unlocked the door. Within a month they moved away. I used to build houses and work in demolition so this is how I know how easy it is to break into houses. Even if my windows are locked I still have them blocked so someone can't even get an arm into my house. Never give someone an easy way in. If I'm particularly concerned about people coming into my house I'll put bags full of recycleable materials like cans at the door way so if the door is opened at night the cans will fall down the stairs. Houses can be broken into silently so any kind of system to make noise is a great system. This is why dogs are so great, they bark at everything. Security camera's are also great but there is lots of security camera footage of people having their houses broken into and the home owner needing to fight for their life even getting into a shootout in their own home because the criminals will come armed during home invasions. Best to have yourself a good home defense plan in which you protect your family from harm with a firearm. Remember the guy that broke into the house and stared at the kids then kidnapped and murdered one of the the kids? What good did the security video do? You need to hear that someone is in your house and you need to be able to defend yourself against multiple armed intruders. Get some guns and protect your kin.

A guy can kick/shoulder a door like that in about 0.5 seconds, the wood that holds jam[latch] is about 19mm[3/4”] having some tin plated metal just stops a child not a man from entering, meaning if you need to do this to a fork you got a reason that you trying to lock it, therefore one can assume its a guy trying to get in, this would not stop a guy.

I can see the flaw already when you jiggled the door. Fact is the fork handle might stay in place because it's got ridges on it which makes it stick between the tines of the fork. If the handle were smooth, and not getting caught on the tines, its possible if someone jiggled the door enough, the handle will fall out.

Example: I was in New York for a vacation, and stayed with a friend who live in a high-rise. The toilet got clogged, and I asked for the plunger. He said "no one does that here. They call maintenance".

@@PhilCrockett I heard about a trap made by the IRA, a guerilla army here in Ireland that fought the British during the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921) and in the Troubles Civil War in Northern Ireland (1969 - about 1991 to somewhere in the early 00's, it's hard to say exactly when that war ended).
Anyway, I don't know how true this is, but apparently a tactic was to take the glass bulb, off a glass blub, and fill it with petrol (gasoline) or presumably maybe an other type of explosive liquid or powder, like napalm or dynamite or a more modern high explosive powder.
Then put the filled glass bulb back together.
Then replace this bulb with your enemies light bulb while they are away.
This gives you an idea of the level of hatred that this device was apparently used. Presumably on a light close to the light switch. But very indiscriminate, as you presumably don't know exactly who's going to turn on that light switch or who is with them.
Sorry, from here on out is just a rant about how much I hate the evils that people did on both sides during the Troubles Civil war, and the lack of personal responsibility for their own actions while condemning their enemies as much as possible.
I would delete it, but it's a lesson in histor, and history repeats itself.
Remember Jesus Christ corrects his own side first, before dealing with his enemies. Ie, "those who I love, I rebuke and chastise".
There where a lot of people fighting that claimed to be Christians, but where not, they where ravenous wolves. And by their fruits, I could know if they where.
Anyway, here's the rant that I wasn't sure to delete or not. But kept because it's an important historical lesson, for today's conflicts from household arguments to actual wars:
Having said that, targeting each others school children was unfortunately not outside the tit for tat warfare between both sides during the Troubles Civil war.
I only called it a guerilla army instead of a terrorist army, just because both sides where terrorists, and I don't want to associate with people that start fights, get outraged that people fight back and then intimate everyone in the bar into pretending that something else happened that didn't, to pretend that they where the innocent victims defending themselves.
Like "anti"- fa starting fights and then crying when they get their asses handed to them, or WW2 nazi propaganda news reels of Soviet War crimes that completely ignored Nazi War crimes.
That lack of personal responsibility for your actions is basically both sides during the Troubles Civil war.
Thank God I live in the Republic of Ireland instead of the North.

Wouldn't locking the door only exacerbate the issue by angering whoever is coming in unwanted?
If the situation is going to get blown up anyway...use the fork to stab the person in the neck a couple of times...

If you don't have much confidence in dealing with whoever is on the other side, buying you a couple minutes to think of something else (e.g. escape through a window, call police, hide,) is a great alternative.

"Today we're going to be working on an heirloom fork lock sent into me by one of my viewers that he stole from his mother's antique silverware collection. It's a standard sterling silver fork lock from the 1930s so I'm going to start with my custom wiper insert and add a bit of tension and then use a standard pick in 18 thousandths. tine one is binding, so is tine two, tine three seems to have fallen into a false set (I'm wondering if there's still a bit of meatball residue on it,) and there's a click out of tine four. hmmm, this one is proving to be a bit tricky so I'm so I'm going to switch to the fork release tool made by myself and Bosnian Bill...
