From a canadian who knew nothing about wukong or Journey to the west before this game, THANK YOU! Your videos have been very informative and helpful in understanding parts of the story and game better
Btw I like how confident you sound here, and more expressive. Compared to the last video which was still really good, you seem much more comfortable now! This keeps the video really entertaining
Hey Yugene, you know the theme you mentioned that reminded you of your childhood at 1:40:36? I'm pretty sure that Game Science had actually paid homage to this theme. In the game, if you accumulate the maximum focus points needed for the wukong stance whilst having the full wukong armour set equipped, the destined one will plant the staff down, extend it high up in the air and slam down three times. When this animation is triggered, that theme song you mentioned actually plays. If you don't believe me, find this video: Black Myth Wukong - MAX LEVEL 342 Vs Bosses++++ NG+++ Gameplay (NO DAMAGE) (the thumbnail has the destined one against the yaksha king) and go up to the 20 second mark. I'm pretty sure that is the theme mentioned. Also, really enjoyed this video. It was very interesting and fun to watch, especially when you made the joke about Spider-Ham!
I get the skill that you are saying, oh I was just not sure if that's from the 1996 JTTW. Lately I have been rewacthing the 1996 and 1998 JTTW, and I noticed the opening of the game is the same as the opening for the 1996 JTTW: Wukong going against the Celestial court and soldiers by himself
@@yugenelhc😂 thanks for clarifying there’s two diff series to JTTW. I watched it when I was a kid so I had no idea there was a sequel. Thank you for your videos! I've beat the game 3x and watching your video gave me a better understanding of the game and the lore! Can't wait for the DLC i don't want these videos to end!

Indonesian watched 1996, 1998 & God of Honour too! Although the local version title wasn't Journey to the West but "The Mighty Monkey King" and localized cool intro/opening with a rap. Those 3 are my first gate for Journey to the West & playing Black Myth Wukong sent me to that childhood.
Wooooo! Been looking forward to this video. I started reading Journey to the West, and found translations for the additional books that served as inspiration for Game Science. I just have one remark regarding Erlang. I’ve seen many people say that he was always part of Wukong’s plan, but to me, it felt more like he didn’t know until he beat Wukong and took the Mind relic with him. Only then did he start gaining awareness of Wukong’s true intentions, and how they align with his. So what makes you think he was always part of Wukong’s plan?
This is a wonderful video! I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into it! You've got yourself a supporter. Quick question: I just finished reading 西游记 (mostly so I could better appreciate Black Myth Wukong lol). Do you have any recommendations of what I could read next to learn more about Chinese history and culture?

Would you consider making a series of thorough tellings and analyses of Journey and other Chinese mythology? I’ve always been interested, but the books are thousands of pages and I just don’t have time for that. But I would have time to listen while washing the dishes and you seem to very well versed in the culture. I think many people here would show up
Maybe I will do an introduction video of The Investiture of the Gods. Nezha, Erlang, Lijing and a nine tailed fox are in it. It takes place many many years before Wukong's birth. Yea Nezha is old, don't get fool by his handsome and youthful look

I think the first scene in the chapter 6 animation when wukong puts the bowl down, is actually not the present (it's just wukong and not the destined one with wukong's memories). It is actually right before the game starts when wukong vs Erlang. I'm just confused, how do we know this is the destined one after beating the game and not a flash to where sun wukong storms the celestial gates after his people were killed? Yes, I left that part out to let the audience to do the reading themselves to find out
Thank you!
Nice. I think it's like a recap of the Journey to the west story.
So you don't get the recap in the bad ending?
Yea. The bad ending does not have a recap animation so there's nothing to recap
Erlang was like, "Oh shit, not today!" so...another day will be ok??
Here's the keyboard ⌨, AO3 and Wattpad are waiting for you
Budget constraint is gonna be foreign to game science moving forward
I am so excited to see what they do next!!
I love you ❤️
Thanks so much for this!
wukong is so smart in humourous way🤣 16:07
i love your interpretations of wukong lore for us western audiences
i always loved him on surface level but with black myth i got to enjoy this great piece of chinese mythos that is the victorious fighting buddha
question though because of how widely received wukong is in china
would you say he is to china that godzilla is to japan? not so much in terms of destruction or anything but a widely loved character
I know most of the stories, it was bascially a firework in my brian when i watched this video, was crazy good
I know what I’m listening to at the gym tomorrow.
thank you work
