5:22 love that you use Netflix The Monkey King animation to illustrate your explanation. It’s one of my son’s favorite film. And this is coming from Hispanic Americans we love Sun Wukong and journey to the west
Oh I love this video! The comparison is too good! Thank you for your insight. I think it's particularly interesting to see the input of someone with an Eastern Background with these small little tidbits of knowledge that you have!
It’s so nice hearing someone pronounce the names correctly 😭 so many streamers and TH-camrs butchered their names. I get it. Chinese names can be difficult. But it just hurts to hear sometimes lol
Loved your video! And yes, every Asia kids who grew up in Asia would have known Journey To The West even the iconic song and theme related to it. Also I loved how Black Myth Wukong hinted that Wukong had a love interest: Baigujing, the white bone demoness. Man, if they made Black Myth Journy To The West game then I would be excited to see Wukong and his love interested. Because they did reference it in the last chapter.
I wonder if even some older Asian people who of course also grew up with J t t W were so interested that they also started playing the game. Quite a fun thought I think of some older Asian men playing the game as well^^
Fantastic video. I had a little knowledge of JTTW - In Australia we got the Japanese TV version of the show. It's a real pity we didn't get the Chinese one. But I am really enjoying seeing these different clips and learning from people who really grew up with it.
I would be grateful if you did a series talking about Journey to the West and the various Buddhist, Taoist and other such themes from the novel and tv series. I am from Ghana in West Africa and we also grew up watching the 1980s journey to the west show. Lots of amazing memories
Squares of a number always have some sort of religious and aesthetic bend in Chinese culture. 81 is the square of 9, and it is common to say 9 of 9, 81 of something. You have 8 square, 64 something, or 7 square, 49 of something.
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I'm new Journey to the West, but have always had an affinity for romanticized Chinese history (RoTK being a cornerstone of my youth). I would appreciate any additional content you are willing and able to make. 🙏🏻

@@ZenShenanigans I hope it focuses where the good ending left off. Monkey finally being free from the headband, he finally has the freedom he always wanted. Well a version of him? It would be too much to ask for but I hope we get to go to fight the jade emperor and his court but maybe that will be left for wunkong 2.
@@Truekingr6 if you have unlocked the "wukong stance" and the buff is active the destined one actually has wukong voice lines. So I assume we get to play as wukong reincarnated in the dlc

Buddhism not worship god because Buddhism close to agnosticism if not atheism. Gautama is human, not like being seen as god and prefer being seen as teacher. He technically said god is unimportant to human life and told people to just focus on being kind to others. Main goal of Buddhism is void or emptiness. Journey to the West kind of merge Buddha and Tao so it is supposed to be impossible that Gautama is still alive or exist in the story because he already die far before that time. Wukong is like Tao (before journey) convert to Buddha (after journey).
@@ferretyluv Gautama die on 483 BCE or 400 BCE. Journey to the west is on 7th century AD. Buddhist sutra only talk about Gautama and his student, not talk about god or deity. Nirvana and Void are literally same thing.
@ Wow, you’re actually dumb. Journey to the West takes place in the 7th century AD but was written in the 16th century. Buddhism has tons of gods. It just doesn’t have a paternalistic creator deity. That doesn’t make it atheist. You’re just too far stuck in the Abrahamic mindset to think about how other religions work.
The notion of Buddhism being close to atheism came from colonists who didn’t read Sanskrit scriptures. William Erskine was one of them. He judged Indian religions based on the outer appearances of their statues. Hinduism was deemed “idolatry” because the statues had many arms and heads. Due to Buddha statues having similar appearances to human, he deemed Buddhism close to Epicureanism, which was ancient Greek materialism. The whole process was ahistorical. In truth, materialists in ancient India were called charvaka, and materialism/annihilationism is one of the 62 Wrong Views that don’t lead to Nirvana. Wukong in this game, who had attained Buddhahood, is not the Tao but the Dharmakaya.

The movie was the reason I'm playing the game. Great video and explanation
Really fascinating. Learned new things. I m a big fan of your videos!
I love the Buddhist settings.
This is the best video to really understand the game in the story! Please make a part two if you can!

Is it considered "hinted" if it was outright stated and shown?
Sorry, what I meant to write was *shown* not hinted, dont know why I did that.

The questions is … does a Buddhist play black myth wukong ?
Yes
this video makes me feel so zen
Interesting. A video that claims to explain the Buddhism, while not explaining it at all.
This video is very interesting. Thank you 🐒
What is the name of your cool hat?
“The mortal kombat raiden hat”
I have read Hinduism and after this video they both seems kinda similar
Buddhism and Hinduism both are Indian religions and share a lot of similar qualities
Buddhism came from Hinduism just as Christianity came from Judaism. They have the same roots but became different things
Nah both have different concept in Buddhism we don't worship any God we just follow path of Buddha
Return to monke
Please make a vídeo about the movie Kaguya no Hime
