I have an Axiom Alias that goes where you throw it. Very hard to throw straight for not a perfect throw. @Purcader222 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I'll have to agree with Michael on this one. I'd rather have them re-do the throw than maintain authenticity. Showing a misthrow doesn't tell us much about their natural flight. I'll also add that I prefer when review/testing series maintain consistency (i.e. using the same player) so the videos can be used as references to each other. That's just my two cents.

    • @zackaneckstein8214
      @zackaneckstein8214 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I have to somewhat disagree. If you bring in players with lower ratings, power, and skill, then all you're going to do is decrease the consistency. A better alternative is to have Caleb throw each multiple times but at 90%, then 70%, then 50%. This can give you a more accurate measure of how the disc will fly for multiple arm speeds, while not loosing consistency to the unpredictability of lower rated players

Probably should rethrow if the disc goes in the sky like the md3 did. It will act more overstable because of that. Also most of these shots are hyzerflips whereas i would measure straightness by throwing it flat and seeing if it turns or fades on me.

Brand new discs often fly overstable. If you think about it, the majority of throws you make with a disc will not be with it "brand new" and it doesn't take much to season out that initial super overstability. Obviously the disc isnt going to become a brand new disc over the course of a couple rounds, but ... Well, let me share an illustrative anecdote. I recently purchased an axiom hex in premium plastic. It was noticably overstable for, say, the first two rounds I played with it, but by the third round, that "new overstability" was pretty clearly coming off and it was becoming much more straight. I just think judging a disc by how it flies brand spanking new isn't the best, because, like I said, a disc won't be brand new most of the times you throw it.
Not complaining. I really enjoy your videos. Just something to think about.

The buzz never felt comfortable in my hand (I tried!) where the mako 3 instantly went in my bag! Favorite Mako 3 plastic, as I stated, is the XT Pro. Give this a try as the grip is incredible and holds flight after hitting trees.

Very good video. I was surprised not to see the Axiom Hex in the test though, for me it seems to be the most forgiving mid to not throwing dead flat, it deals to crappy form very well.
Mako 3 is the straightest mid I've ever thrown, and it also stays on a hyzer path or an anhyzer path easily, but that means it is more sensitive to poor form.

  • @entrepreneurlife649

    My experiences:
KC Pro Roc: started OS and beat to be very straight with slight fade at the end. Lost it in a creek.
Champ Roc3: OS meathook. Still trying to beat it in but the champion plastic doesn't beat in quickly.
Star Mako3: Perfect straight disc. It is currently beat in a bit and just goes up and down, no turn. It'll hold whatever angle you put on it. Just a great utility disc.
MVP Vertex: Not broken in and is quite US.
So I use Champ Roc for OS lines, Mako3 for point and shoot, and Vertex for US lines.
I also bag all three stabilities in fairway and distance driver speeds. 10 discs is plenty to remember as a casual player.

I have a 180g. mind bender and its a tiny bit too understable to have a spot in my bag. I have special blend s-line md1 179 gram that is much straighter and perfectly stable with the right power and angle.
I cant really understand the outcome of the latitude64 trust flight, I bag one and its not that overstable.
I throw my mids straight, not high, not low and usually on wooded courses, I want a midrange that goes straight the entire flight. I just cant get used to a disc that has a turn that cancels the fade (and therefore "straight" flying).
I love the buzz out in the open. But in tight and moderatly low ceiling fairway, I love to put some power on the trust and just keep it low and dead straight.
Tbh, the straightest flying disc I have is a star invader, I think everyone should bag one, its abslutely gold. You can throw it with a stupid amount of power and it wont turn unless you are runding.

Cosmic Piwakawaka from RPM discs: The Flightnumbers are 6/6/-3/0 but... they are not true on the cosmic plastic. Give it a slight hizer (which i do naturaly) and it goes straight for 350 with 0 fade. The atomic version is more true to the numbers and i would not recomant it if you dont want to train touch. Dont touch the strata version, its a roler disc. Hex is great too but beats in way to quick.

Thanks so much for this video. I'm going to pick up an opto claymore. currently, my black star mako3 is the straitest, flattest flying disc I've ever thrown. A caveat here is that I can only throw around 220 feet, so your results may vary.
I agree that flight numbers aren't the end all. I throw my discs regularly to see how they actually fly for me with my lower skill level and arm speed, then during a round, choose the disc that will get me the shape I need based on that. I have a DX Roc3 and a Quake with the same flight numbers and they don't fly anywhere close to the same for me. I also have an old beat in DX TeeBird and a new Champion TeeBird and they fly completely different as well. Thanks again.

Compass and Warship are my midranges in the bag (+ anchor). My top distance with drivers are currently about 100m (330ft).
Have to say that I'm bit suprised that Compass was overstable for u. Every Compass (even new ones in Opto plastic) I have thrown goes a bit right and there is always that small fade. So I usually throw them in slight hyzer so I can minimize that right movement. But it is important to get subtle move to right so u don't have that much fade but even with straight throw there isn't that much fade. Opto plastic is a bit more stable that Gold plastic. I would recommend Compass in Gold, because of better grip and it is almost as durable than Opto. I bag them both for different throws.
Warship I use for anny shots. VIP plastic is for flat to subtle anny almost the whole shot. Or just releases it anny and it will hold nicely whole throw. I have also Warship in BT plastic that is for huge hyzer flips.
If this video is for more experienced players, most likely they will find their straight midrange from the overstable slot. For the beginners I recommend Wombat3, Svea or Fuse. I started throwing with a Wombat3. U really cant start with a wrong disc if u choose Wombat3. DX plastic would be my choice.

I bag a DC big z buzzz, L64 opto claymore, L64 opto fuse, and a west side VIP harp. The claymore is my straight midrange disc of choice. It either flips up to flat and has a tiny finish at the end, or I turn it over and it fades back to straight. If you throw it on a big anhyzer it will also hold that the whole flight. The fuse is reliably under stable, and the big z buzzz is reliably over stable. The harp is just a shorter version of how my buzzz flies with slightly more fade.

As someone who doesn't have a great arm, my Manta tends to fly extremely straight when I get the release right. I've recently been working on replacing it (because it's taken a beating in it MX plastic). So far, the Discmania Meteor in ESP plastic seems to be fairly similar just a bit more stable. As it breaks in I could see it marching my old Manta pretty darn well.

I've watched all of your videos about flight numbers and certain discs actually perform. Something you've not touched upon is arm speed / rotaional speed of the disc and weight of the disc, which are the factors that actually impact the discs flight the most. Example. If player X has a 65mph arm speed and is throwing disc X at 175g and something is lets say flips to flat or barely understable, If player Y picks up the exact same disc but has an arm speed of 50-55mph the disc will be extremely overstable.

The wombat3 is in my understable slot. Even on a hyzer, it flips up and finishes straight or finishes with a slight turn. If there's any headwind, it just turns over. The Jay is my straight flyer.

The straightest Midrange ever made is out of production the 4--5 speed Spider, it was one of the straightest midrange on the market ever due to being basically a putter design with a slightly wider rim. The XD although a Putter almost gets the slow midrange speed to that of a Shark and was once the straigest discs on the market, lots of players had one for ether that long putter short midrange area or as their driving putter if they did not use a DX/later a Champion Spider or a slightly worked in DX/Pro Gator for the driving putter slot. I have the Lighting Clone for this same flight same exact one since 2005 in Prostyle plastic, the #2 Upshot or U2 disc that was 166 grams when new but is probably closer to 162 grams now. The Lighting #2 Upshot in Prostyle plastic was one of the most durable discs in use, I even got what was suposed to be a 165 gram Lighting #2 Upshot but got a 175 instead as my backup that still flies dead straight. Then a slightly faster disc the Glide is currently one of the straightest discs on the market, often used for tunnel shots or need to stay straight type shots. I use the very similar OOP (Discraft)Impact right after the mold went oop I got a bunch at the weights that work best for the mold, 170--173 grams and 174--175 grams for the discs for very cheap as people hated the hatch mark groves picked up dirt.

M4 is the straightest disc I have ever thrown. Just release on a slight hiezer and it will not go left or right. Local course here requires a disc fly 289 ft within a 10-15 ft corridor of trees and the M4 has yet to let me down… even in a head wind (put a little more hiezer on it). Angle of release is vital to getting a straight shot.

The only surprise was Göte. Mine have been a lot straighter than that. Who ever claims Z or ESP Buzzz to be straight throws it over 400 ft. The other reason is that many considers disc to be straight if they fly straight before fade.
I used to throw Buzzz, but almost only ESP FLX Buzzz. When they stopped making those, I stopped throwing Buzzz and started to throw Claymore.
Svea is very straight until 270 ft when thrown hyzerflip, but not when thrown flat and lack of fade causes throllers very easily if angle control is not very good.
Mako3 has been mentioned before, or old Mako's are difficult to differentiate from MD1/Mind Benders. MD1 is almost a copy of Mako3. Very small differences when you look at them closely.
Buzzz SS was missing from the list. At least old ones were straight, but I'd categorize it very very little more stable than MD1 and Mako3.
If you make a second part, Kastaplast's new Stig might be a good addition to the test. It does have a turn though, but also has a fade, but might have to be thrown on a slight hyzer to get a straight flight. More stable than Svea but less stable than Göte.
Otherwise I can't think of any molds that were missing.
And based on what I have seen, C-line MD1 seems to fly the same as Mind Bender. Plastic is not as gummy as Mind Bender though.
Hex is more stable than MD1 or Mako3. Less stable than Buzzz, but Hex might be on the borderline of being straight. Haven't thrown glow Hex though.

This type of experiment is really difficult, but I still have to comment. Throwing open shots matters, but I use a mud to hit a target. I would prefer to see whether your throwers could get the disc to hit a line/target in mids. I think about Drew throwing a Buzz on a 300 foot rope.
