I gotta say I kinda like a video of you personally going through discs that at least on paper match what you want and figuring out which one(s) will actually make the bag.
kinda a specific run, but the full glow lizottles (and full glow hex l2 from the gyro box) might actually be close to what youre looking for. i put mine at about 5/4/0/2 and i can get it to around 250ish when my max distance drive is 350 on flat ground
Mint Bobcat and Remix Battleship are both the same mold and might be what you're looking for. I bag the Plazma Battleship. The Dynamic Discs Verdict in Lucid plastic flies like my Plasma Remix Battleship, but with a little more distance. The Verdict likes to be thrown hard and fast. I bag both the Verdict and the Battleship because of the distance difference.
I got a Battleship as well and loved the feel and flight but I didn't get to pick my color when I ordered it and got a dark brown. So unfortunately, I rarely bag it due to it getting lost very easily in wooded courses.
I like to bag the lucid EMacTruth as a neutral flier, and the lucid Verdict for the overstable slot. I also bag a lucid Justice for stupid overstable. I love that all of these discs have the same great hand-feel for me and the plastic is the same.
I gotta say, I love this videos but this one is one of my favorite. I like how you are trying to find this slot for your bag, adds to us, all trying to do the same thing instead of just looking into flight numbers!
I really like my Lucid Ice Glimmer Verdict. I bag that as well as a Fuzion-X Emac Truth, and for me that Emac Truth flies pretty reliably straight with a subtle end fade.
Great stuff as always Greg! I just went through a similar quest looking for a dead straight midrange that finished straight. Hand feel and plastic types make a huge difference in confidence factor. The "I just don't like it." Is the best answer ever. I ended up with the K1 Svea filling that slot perfectly for me. Good luck in the tournament this weekend!
Btw, I’m still figuring out how to set up a bag for playing. I have no idea what “holes”I have in my bag! Could you do a video about that? Maybe use your experience preparing for the tournament as an example.
Holes in the bag are usually identified by the courses you frequently play. I carry some discs because they're only really useful off the tee on like 2-3 holes out of the 4-5 courses I play, and some of those are 36 hole courses lol
Great video! You might want to note that Mint recently updated the Mustang numbers to have a fade of 1 instead of 2. They have a new disc called the Taco that’s supposed to take the place of a mid with 2 or 3 fade.
Have you tried a Reactor? That what I got when I wanted an “Envy but in a midrange” and it’s been working for me. Like the envy, it’s not too over where it dumps into the ground. It pushes straight pretty far before reliably fading at the end. I really like that disc.
Birdie ULTRA color glow!!! When I need a little more then my crystal flex zone the ultra is it. Zone sticks when it lands but the ultra slides right up.
I have really been enjoying the Birdie Disc Golf Supply "Ultra" in this slot! Works well forehand and backhand, with reliable over stability. Like a long range Z Zone in flight.
Came here to comment DGA SP Quake and see I'm not the firsr. My bag is mostly Prodiscus and Kastaplast but the DGA Quake in SP is excellent. I've bagged them since 2017. Great mold.
im currently dealing with this same slot in my bag. I rock discmania mids . and i love my MD3/Chariots but wanted more beef between MD3 and MD5. the MD4 just got approved so going to have to try that. my short list is Mil Solstice or new MD4, Mint taco(tsa crux), glow reactor, archive, or Quake .😅
Good luck in the tournament! I’m currently throwing Elevation Gecko for the overstable slot but it’s reeeally beafy so maybe I need to set out and look for something that’s still overstable but not an absolute overkill. It’s so windy lately that I really need to check these out.
Funny, I bag a Quake, Pyro and Inca all for slightly different situations for that slot. Good choice and I couldn't gelp but chuckle at the toxic waste plastic comment since I had to air out my blackout for a while. Hopefully we get on the same card this weekend, good luck!
I like the Pursuit more than the badger, but both are criminally underated. Wish Legacy would run either of them in Excel, even Gravity would be sick; something cyclable.
The quake by DGA is perfect for me in this slot. But the ultra by birdie and the pyro by axiom have that great reliable overstable flight that i look for in that slot also
I like the Pyro over the Quake due to the plastic feeling a bit grippier for my hands, but they're both great and almost identical in feel. The Ultra seems to come up alongside those two a lot -- how would you compare it?
@DavidCornelius yea you'll never hear me have anything bad to say about the pyro. I bag the Austin turner quake and it flies almost identical to the ultra for me. Maybe the ultra gets a bit more distance, but it came to hand feel for me and the quake just felt right.
I haven't seen the full video yet, but from what i gathered about half way in Terminal Velocity Discs Ursus could be just the disc. It is the one i bag and probably my most used disc in glass plastic (I use it more than i should just because of the feel)
My short list (forehand only): Champion Luster Shark3 Daredevil Walrus Performance Elastomer Champion Rocx3 Champion Roc3 Alpine Lichen Magnolia Stacie (Haas) Kiefer Eclipse Reactor The winner is the Magnolia. I learned from your interview with Josh of AGL that the metal flake is actually regrind of discarded foil stamp waste. Definitely not rock hard like that hemp one, think star with metal flake.
Seriously loving my roc3's now. Got a few in glow dx and mcpro, and a few in champ glow and jolly launcher. Bag like 7 now and between those and 3 teebirds and a firebird i can throw basically any line. Also i feel like different plastics are more accurate to certain flight numbers
Right now, I use a Viking Loki. I have it in Armor plastic now (premium opaque blend) because I lost my Storm blend one (hard translucent). They only make one color for each plastic and the Storm being orange just doesn't work in the NM desert. They both work for me on forehands and backhands and they give me a little more distance than the "pure utility" slot, where I have an MVP Deflector...Storm was definitely more overstable than Armor. I love how it feels in my hand and hope future runs come out the same way. They call it "wide diameter" on the Infinite site but it's in my bag next to a Buzzz and it's nowhere near as wide as the Buzzz.
The way I describe the Doomsday Scope is like a Zone SS. I actually bag it as a flip-up straight mid. The Desolation is also absolutely money, and sits between my Scope and a Remix Gladius (aka a Mint Taco).
I found the Archive didn't handle a Headwind for me. Loved the feel, was disappointed it wasn't stable enough for me. I have been throwing RPMs KOTUKU, but I hate the feel in my hand.
Same. Flew great in quiet weather but a bit of wind flips it over. I ended up beating in (against a brick wall) an MX-2 and that's my OS mid now. Much more reliable
Latitude 64 Royal Trust is what I keep in the bag along with my K1 Jarn. My Trust is pretty flat (heard some can be more domey) and it isn't crazy overstable but has enough finish for me even though it has good glide. I want to get my hands on a Grand Orbit Trust at some point to see if it is a touch more overstable. The quality of the Lat64 Royal plastic is just insane and it takes dyes so well.
Thank you for another great video! 😊 I used to throw a DX Roc3 for that slot and had a DGA Quake on standby as a roller. I've since begun throwing a little better and have beat my Roc3 in to the point that it flies mostly straight now, so I've replaced it with the Quake. Don't know DGA's plastics, but it feels like Innova's Star plastic. Next time I need one in this slot, I may give the Halo Roc3 a shot. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into bringing us this series. It's one of the most useful series I've seen. Thanks again for sharing.
@@campitts9356 No, sorry. The username is a long story. I lived there for a very long time, but that was now a long time ago. I just became aware of disc golf a couple of years ago, from TH-cam. I've been playing almost a year now. I now live in central Florida.
i have an old FLX Drone, a Neutron Pyro with a Prism rim, a JF Tour Series Haloish Gator3. They all do similar things. The Drone i like most backhand, the pyro i like the most forehand. The Gator3 is brand new with some strong recency bias. It is by far the prettiest of the bunch and has obscenely bright colors are making me want to throw it more. The Gator 3 is board flat with a very comfortable grip backhand and forehand despite the bead on the bottom. But it is way more overstable than the other two discs. To sum up, I want to have just the Gator3 but i think i prefer the other 2 as a tag team.
Really cool to see you throw some Legacy and Prodigy. I’ve tried the MX-1, M1, M2/3, M4 and Stryder. Gonna have to try the Archive. I liked the format of this flight number don’t matter a lot. Adding in hand feel to your assessment was an interesting addition that often gets ignored. 👍👍
Hey Greg, longtime listener, first time....caller? Commenter? Typer? :P It's the Roc3 (Color Glow) or the ESP Zone for me. I go to the Zone more often for forehand. But I love the Roc3 for it's versatility. I can get it to go arrow straight on full power, throw 250ish foot hyzers, or get it to turn and hold. Power down a bit, and boom, reliably overstable.
I had/have that same gap in my bag. I need something in between my Volt and Lasso. I have a Reactor but it is lazer straight now. I currently bag mint’s bobcat after taking lonestar’s Middy out the bag. I want to try the pyro or resistor but they are hard to find at my local shops so I’m gonna try your store!
Im bagging a Lab 2nd Neutron Reactor in this slot, really comfortable forehand and backhand. I also bag an MD5 but it doesnt get much action more of a utility disc.
My main OS midrange and favorite midrange overall is a Champion Roc3. I also have a Pyro for shots where I need something a bit more stable than the Roc3.
I'm a big Loft fan and recently have been on the fence about my Silicon too, nearly same reasons. They make the discs so smooth to be comfortable in the hand but i feel like my release is more inconsistent with it, and I'm not entirely sure why. Great for forehands though for me.
Rocking the quake in my slot, that magnolia looks to be the Woodland hemp blend not the alpine not that there is an easy way to tell, its just that opaque matt stiff putter like plastic blend and its board flat i have a woodland glow just like that, my alpine and alpine hemps are like a soft older champion plastic and glossy and have dome apart from my x-out which is the whole reason i got the others "shrug" but they aren't the same.
I picked up a Halo Roc3 for the overstable mid spot in my bag and it’s more understable than my buzzzz or even my buzzzz ss. Unless I throw it on a steep hyzer it just instaflips and doesn’t come back.
My go to reliably stable midrange has been the Dynamic Discs Suspect for over a year. But it has recently started getting a little too flippy occasionally, so might be time for a new one.
I definitely recommend the west side discs, gatekeeper, and the pine currently trying to decide between those two when I need more distance than the harp
You’re looking for a max weight champion metal flake gator. I also throw backhand. Theres always a gator in my bag for that slow controlled reliable fade, and it’s absolutely clutch when it comes to those scramble shots, where a controlled tomahawk or scoober is needed.
I throw mostly Westside discs. The Bard flies straight for me. It has some fade, but nothing like what you have here. I don’t think I actually have a disc for this slot. (Maybe the Järn). Someone gifted me a Pyro and an Archive, I should give them a toss to see if they work for me. Good luck in your tournament this weekend.
Those eMac Truths are more wind resistant than one might think due to the low profile, just a tiny bit less distance than a fairway. I think the new Supreme ones are most OS to begin at least? But the fuzion-X '22 eMac Tour Series with a poptop in the middle but being flat closer to the rim are supposed to be the most OS before that, and it is stable for sure! ;) (Bagging a blue of those OS ones and a beat in fuzion Burst which just goes on the release angle and glides forever!)
Thank you for this content. I'd be interested to see a making of the bag for your son Or wife or other people.. Keep it in the flight numbers don't matter series. Maybe Caleb. Per slot
I don't use midranges very much (because in this period I find myself well only with putters up to 50 m, and with fairway and distance drivers from 60 m up, only in the window 50-60 m I use sometimes midranges ), anyway I have a Gatekeeper (4 5 0 2 westside vip) and an Emac Truth (5 5 0 2 dynamic discs lucid), but the second is beaten and is now more understable and I'm not using it.
nice video :) im throwing a combo of discraft z/esp hornets and esp flx drones for my overstable midranges. the hornet is a bit more straight with a bit more glide but never flips too much. its not really produced anymore though, except for special releases and i have never found it in a plastic i really like. i prefer softer plastics like esp flx. but it flies soooo perfect for me and i have confidence with it so i cant get rid of it haha :D the drone is more of a meathook for those odd situations and strong headwinds. i dont actually throw an understable mid right now, so those are my only two midranges in my bag. the midrange is probably my least used slot in my bag too. i prefer speed 3.5 (lots of diffrent ringers) or 9-11 (heat/vulture/scorch/machete). Maybe i should force myself to use mids more and see what happens.
No lonestar? I started with a delta middy and like it so much I picked up an alpha middy. I tried a pyro and a resistor and they are both meathooks for me, so the middy fits that spot just right
Warrior! (have it in grip plastic) I was looking for something better than the Roc and Roc3, and this one has more glide and a good fade. I'm a lower arm speed so I don't know if it would apply to you. I was surprised that it was overlooked.
Yikun discs has 2 pretty amazing overstable mids with the Zheng and Kui, 5 5 0 2 and 5 5 0 2.5 respectively. You should try those out, pretty awesome discs.
Yeah… the hand feel is really important! I have small hands and I like shallower disks that most other players. So you really have to try the disk in hand to know if the disk is for you or not. It would be nice to have shows where you can try to throw the disks!
I love the resistor for this slot. More of a fairway driver but especially on forehand it can handle torque no problem. Might require a higher armspeed backhand though
I've gone back and forth between Pyro, Matrix and Reactor. A lightweight Plasma Pyro is the closest to what I look for, but they're too difficult to replace. Most Reactors were just a touch too US to be reliable in the wind, and Reactors with good high wings were also hard to come by. Matrix is what I mostly carry nowadays, it's a nice compromise, but it's a touch slower and straighter than what I would ideally want. I think MVP has a hole in their Gyro lineup here. Method has a better hand feel in Exo but I don't want the hassle of buying a new one every month. Verdict is even better in the hand in base plastic but the premium version is a lot more rounded and Roc3-like like most discs you reviewed here. The AGL disc looked awesome. I wish we had those here in Finland.
I highly suggest trying out a Legacy Pursuit! The icon is great, Pushes very straight. Pinnacle feels great and has even more stability! Feels close to the Quake.
Got an old Moonshine Anchor from Lat64 which is money! Would be sweet if you made a video series throwing several of the exact same mold and plastic, looking for which brands / molds are the most/least reliable. I find some manufacturers to be incredibly unreliable, and its quite frustrating when you can't feel the discs before throwing...
You should tryyou should try the pheonix line zheng from yikun discs it's the most stable plastic for that discs and I'd say it has nice overstable flight but very controllable
Sounds like a Pyro is exactly what you're looking for
Pyro is a world class disc and the prism plasma plastic is beautiful
I have thrown one but it wasn’t vibing with my backhand grip for some reason
Agreed. Pyro is what I bad for this shot.
Pyro or a Justice.
Also I use my zone more than my overstable midrange.
I throw a DGA Quake in SP plastic. Love it!
Me too, it's such a game changer. Feels good fh and BH and the plastic is so good.
Second the Quake!
Quake gang
This!!!
Heck yeah that trio is what I bag as well
I gotta say, I love this videos but this one is one of my favorite. I like how you are trying to find this slot for your bag, adds to us, all trying to do the same thing instead of just looking into flight numbers!
The disc that covers this spot in my bag is the Elaine King Eclipse Reactor
I was thinking the glow reactor as well
Same here. It is awesome on backhand and is absolute money for forehand from skip shots to flex lines.
I use mine as a glow stable version of my beloved Matrix...
Thats what I was thinking
I really like my Lucid Ice Glimmer Verdict. I bag that as well as a Fuzion-X Emac Truth, and for me that Emac Truth flies pretty reliably straight with a subtle end fade.
Missing out on the Dynamic Discs Verdict and my personal fav, the Supreme Fugitive.
Guess I'm lucky I feel quite comfortable with a Pyro,
Matrix, Hex, Uplink line up for stability.
Gateway warrior is my favorite overstable mid range gotta check it out fam.
Looking to replace an esp Malta I lost. Perfect video
I bag a 500 archive for that slot used to bag a m2 but archive hand feel is so o good

@@ViJt-oq5nqThanks very much! I appreciate the info.
Thanks for being so relatable. This is the best series on TH-cam. I laughed out loud when you said, "...even though it smells horrible." hahaha
Great video! You might want to note that Mint recently updated the Mustang numbers to have a fade of 1 instead of 2. They have a new disc called the Taco that’s supposed to take the place of a mid with 2 or 3 fade.
VIP Glimmer Bard, fantastic fit between my Toro and Roc3. For when you really can't drift right.
Not a single MVP?

I really enjoy the RPM Glow Kotuku for this shot. Also love the Pyro for my beefy backhand and power forehand
Glowtuku for the win here 🙌
I have really been enjoying the Birdie Disc Golf Supply "Ultra" in this slot! Works well forehand and backhand, with reliable over stability. Like a long range Z Zone in flight.
Came here to comment DGA SP Quake and see I'm not the firsr.

Should have tried the MX-1 from prodigy. That thang is stable!
The Legacy Badger is my favorite midrange. I've been throwing it since it was a prototype.
Do you own the Patrick Brown version? The Aztec Serpent? Crazy beefy.
I like the Pursuit more than the badger, but both are criminally underated. Wish Legacy would run either of them in Excel, even Gravity would be sick; something cyclable.
Millennium solstice is another one to try out! I love it for both BH and FH
That's the old Innova-made MD4 mold!
The quake by DGA is perfect for me in this slot. But the ultra by birdie and the pyro by axiom have that great reliable overstable flight that i look for in that slot also

I used to be a Pyro guy. I'm now loving the Zone.
My short list (forehand only):
Champion Luster Shark3
Daredevil Walrus Performance Elastomer

I throw mostly Westside discs. The Bard flies straight for me. It has some fade, but nothing like what you have here. I don’t think I actually have a disc for this slot. (Maybe the Järn). Someone gifted me a Pyro and an Archive, I should give them a toss to see if they work for me. Good luck in your tournament this weekend.
Bards can vary a bit depending on the run.
I was looking for that overstable mid, that glides and tried so many. Kastaplast Nord is my opinion the best out of the box.
No lonestar? I started with a delta middy and like it so much I picked up an alpha middy. I tried a pyro and a resistor and they are both meathooks for me, so the middy fits that spot just right
We haven't ordered any new Lone Star in a minute, should be time soon!
Warrior! (have it in grip plastic)
I was looking for something better than the Roc and Roc3, and this one has more glide and a good fade. I'm a lower arm speed so I don't know if it would apply to you. I was surprised that it was overlooked.
The new Mint Taco is right in that sweet spot you're describing.
It definitely fits that slot for me!
I was coming here to recommend the Taco as well!
Good luck in your tournament!
Along with the stability, the archive has been flying close to the distance of my fairways… one of the favorites in the bag
I love the metal flake Md-5 great for force over shots
Star roc x3 is awesome. lil flip up and consistent fade - gator for headwinds
I know it’s not as easy to find, but I love my Legend Pursuit.
Was nice to see some Legacy thrown (Badger).
Yikun discs has 2 pretty amazing overstable mids with the Zheng and Kui, 5 5 0 2 and 5 5 0 2.5 respectively. You should try those out, pretty awesome discs.
I bag 2 methods for my midrange. One exo hard for straight to flippy and one vapor for straight to overstable
I've been loving The Kat Mertsch Color Glow Jay. 🙌🏼 From Innova.
I threw a handful of these before landing on MVP Pyro. I pack Zone, Pyro and Mutant for my "mid" overstable slots.
Love my Z metallic Buzzz OS i think you'd enjoy a Z more than the slippy esp... I do have one of those 400 archives coming tomorrow so i'm pumped
I highly suggest trying out a Legacy Pursuit! The icon is great, Pushes very straight. Pinnacle feels great and has even more stability! Feels close to the Quake.
The dynamic verdict is the correct answer 👌🏻
I throw the sparkle z Uli Buzzz OS. I hate the ESP. But the z buzzz OS is one of my most used discs.
Can you do a review of Legacy midranges? I just bought a couple Ghosts, waiting on their arrival. Good luck on the tournament!
Champ roc3. But thinking about different plastics. Love halo, and gstar so I think those are what I'm going to grab next
Bard is super nice after worn in. Holds the angle and sure gentle fade. Anyways I like more the L64 trust, its the best.
You should tryyou should try the pheonix line zheng from yikun discs it's the most stable plastic for that discs and I'd say it has nice overstable flight but very controllable
I like the west side pine for that slot
i tried a nebula from discraft and enjoyed it for this spot!
