I love the feel of the maiden. I like to throw it, but I already have favorite putter so I don't always have a place for it in my bag. Gotta love the maiden; never a hated disc
@@Jim3Mix I have thrown the baseline founders edition loft a lot. personally I felt like the baseline keystone from a couple trilogy challenges ago, was my go to off the tee. definitely would give the loft a run for its money on straight line. I enjoyed both of them. Now that was before the glitch, ID be very surprise to see anything straighter then the glitch.
Firstly, I'm a beginner/novice. So take anything I say in that light. I throw putters, but only up to about 200 feet. I do that for 2 reasons. 1, it goes very straight. 2, if thrown on a slight hizer, it keeps it to the ground and has almost no skip. I've seen Paige and Paul throw their putters dead straight up to 300 feet. I can't imagine someone wanting to throw a putter that far or further except to go dead straight. If you're not Paige or Paul, I don't really see the sense in reporting on what discs do when you overpower them. At those distances, there are higher speed discs that can give you the results you want without throwing that hard. The less energy you have to put into a throw to achieve the desired results, the better, as it likely will have more control and be more accurate. As a beginner, this is magnified for me. My control and accuracy is middling at best. When I try to throw full power, accuracy and control go out the window and discs end up on my roof. 😂 I would be interested in a video that tests which disc are most accurate (or straight) at a normal effort throw and distance, such as between 150 to maybe 250 or 300 feet max. Thanks for sharing.
There is a myth that could be explored in something you said….the past year I switched to lighter discs due to a rotator cuff issue. I presumed I was throwing the discs faster which is why I could get “the same distance with less effort.” After recently purchasing a pocket radar, I realized that light and normal weight discs are getting thrown the same speed. In hindsight, it makes sense. The weight of body parts and athletic strength used to rotate the body in a backhand swing completely overshadows a 20gram variation in the disc. Maybe this myth comes from the difference in throwing an 8lb bowling ball verses a 16lb ball which does vary in release velocity. That being said, the 150g mvp fission drivers are beyond amazing at flying through the air with ease and wind resistance. Can’t really see going back to full weight drivers at this point.
As an engineer (even though not specializing in flight dynamics I did some work with hydrofoils and studied fluid dynamics) I tend to agree that the difference in release velocity is probably pretty minimal, at least with halfway decent form. I think it's likely a bigger different that the disc will produce the same amount of lift (barring slight differences in cooling, etc.) but the weight that lift has to hold is lower, allowing the lift to keep it airborne longer and fly further. There are other complicating factors and I may be wrong of course but that is my thought.
The MVP Ohm in Neutron plastic is one of the first discs I ever bought back before I learned that you don’t want premium plastics as actual putting putters, but it’s stayed in my bag as my favorite throwing putter. Even though it’s a 2 speed, the glide and forward fade are perfect for shots up to 300+ ft. Even after beating it in for the last 15 months, it has absolutely no turn, no fade, and flies straight as can be. It’s similar to a Glitch, but I have found it to be much more useful and practical.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Glitch, I bag it, I warm up with it, but I reserve it for utility shots. Logic, 2 Envy, Berg are my other throwing putters most days. The Dart made its way back in too.
I always enjoy the "flight numbers don't matter" videos, but this is by far the best one yet. Great work as always! I finally decided to Subscribe. 🙃 I personally throw Fission Envys and Proxies as my regular throwing putters and throw them 250-270 with ease, but can pump them up to 290-300 max. Although, now that I think about it, I've never really taken my putters to a field to try and throw for max distance. All those numbers are golf line throws on courses, where I'm shooting for score, so you can take it with a grain of salt. However, I have also thrown the Inner Core, Dagger, Luna, Spin, Keystone, Pure, Pixel, Narwhal, and Challenger. I think I can get most all of these to the 250-270 ft distance. My opinion is that the disc that fits a person's hand best is the one they will be able to throw the furthest, if that makes sense.
There are a number of reasons new players should throw (drive / upshots) with mids and putters I would add to your excellent list. I agree the term "putter" to a new user, because of golf, is assumed to mean only goes 20 ft. When advising a new player to throw putters we also want them to use "throwing putters" generally meaning premium plastic. The biggest problem with new users and putters is that putters have a thin/narrow rim. This generally means they are difficult to hold with a "power grip" (back hand) which all new players learn and think is necessary to throw far. You need to show a new player a more comfortable grip, generally a fan or modified fan grip. 1. They give new players and those helping them immediate feedback. It is much easier to see OAT, nose angle, hyzer/flat/anhyzer release. High speed disks tend to mask these numbers. 2. High speed discs (fairway / 13-14 speed), thrown at low speeds, do not perform as they should, they will tend to fly over stable. This leads to bad habits as new players will (RHBH) throw to the right rather than straight or throw anhyzer rather than hyzer, which for most people is less powerful / less distance. 3. High speed discs generally mean more weight / inertia which then leads to throwing hard using the arm -> bad technique and injuries. 4. They are more forgiving both with accuracy (more likely to go straight) and generally deflect shorter distance off trees -> means new players are more likely to be taking their next shot from the fairway. 5. It gives them faster access to strategy. It is disc golf not disc throw as far as possible. While we all recognize the premium of distance immediately, new players lose accuracy when throwing high speed discs far, and they think they are doing well because they just threw 20 ft further, never mind it is also 20 ft off the fairway.
I started throwing more putters and mids to work on form and control accuracy and have loved how much my game has changed in such a short amount of time. I personally love the Innova Invaders for putting and throwing. The Innova Wedge is a fun really understable putter great for some hyzer flip to turnover lines in the woods
My most thrown putter is the Axiom Neutron Soft Proxy which I believe is the best throwing putter in disc golf. I utilize it mostly for it's accuracy rather than its distance (which I believe would personally max out at around 310 feet or so). I have never thrown a disc that locks into an angle and holds it more than a premium plastic Proxy, especially after you beat the fade out of it which doesn't take long. I recommend it to everyone I can and haven't heard anyone who's thrown it say that didn't love it. Envy's get all the love, but Proxy's are where it's at people!
I use my midrange for everything until I get close enough to basket for a putt. When I throw my putter for distance, the release is odd and doesn’t go the direction I want it to. It feels big and bulky in my hand. I’ll give it another go tho.
I have two throwing putters: 165g Inner Core for glidey straight shots 175g Star AviarX3 for approaches and hyzer throws Inner Core is a bit flippy when I put some power on it, but when thrown on a bit of hyzer it flips up to straight and holds its line for quite a while. Played a whole round with it yesterday, and I love it for both throwing and putting.
I never once discovered I could throw a mid range or putter further than any driver ... But I did notice I could get to the basket in less strokes with putters and mid range when I first started playing disc.
Yeah, I've recorded a few hundred throws and even though my distance sucks, surprise surprise, the higher speed lower drag drivers go the furthest if I choose stability that allows me to get a full flight. Same with all the brand new players I've introduced: they always do better with the 8 speed Diamond than the 4 or 5 speed flippy mids. I've never seen a shred of evidence showing that slow arms throw putters or midranges further than flippy drivers, just cheap talk.
@@MiG82au There is a time and a place for all discs, and that is what new players should be learning.... It took me so many years to realize I didn't have to throw every disc at 90+ % power... I just needed to choose the right disc.
I throw a Envy and recently a proxy, I pull them out for shots under 280 feet. The Proxy has been a real game changer for me, so consistently straight flying.
It’d be fun to see an update on throwing putters with the new discraft kratos, clash discs popcorn and candy. The kratos is my favorite throwing putter now
I recently learned how to throw "correct" and another lesson for beginners is that midrange and putter are easier to throw because nose angle isn't as important to get the desired flight, very good for learning how to throw it before learning how to control the angle. I only throw distance drivers like 110-140 meters and midranges 80-100m which isn't a huge difference. that's about to change as I'm throwing way further very rapidly right now also shoutout to the classic blend Warden, straightest stable no fade torque resistant putter ive thrown and its what turned me on to throwing putters
Just a thought on flight numbers being "meaningless" , I take issue with that and I believe it is bad advice. I think the crux of the issue is that you can not trust the flight numbers and I believe we should push back on the manufacturer to update the flight numbers. The problem with flight numbers is two fold. First they are somewhat arbitrary and they are affected by plastic, wind, wear, arm speed, how hard you throw, etc. Second the disc manufacturers use the same set of numbers on every disc within the same mold regardless of plastic, weight, and even between runs. For example generally a destroyer has the same numbers regardless of plastid (DX / star/ champion / blizzard / glow) and this is the root of the problem, and again we need to push back of the manufacturers to post accurate numbers. Due to this lack of accuracy from the manufacturer, we end up that you do not know how a disc will fly until you throw it, and that will never change. If at all possible, it is nice to throw a disc from a friend or one you find before you buy it. I, for example, do not buy random discs, I replace ones I loose or I will throw a disc. However, the numbers are helpful and you should not completely abandon the concept. The speed and glide are the most helpful. The turn / fade not as much however there are categories, generally a 0 0 disc will fly different from a 0 4 or a -2 1 . It is like skiing where we have green/blue/black runs but these are just guidelines black meaning the most challenging at that particular ski resort. You can get a better idea of the actual flight numbers on some web sites such as infinite discs, they post numbers on the disc, as well as how they feel the disc actually flies, and people will add comments so you can get a better idea. Of course it would be best if we protest to the disc manufacturers to do better with the flight numbers they put on the disc, even it they put them on a web site rather than on the disc, and they can update the web site each run / year and maintain a database, would be trivial for them to do so. MVP/Axiom changes their flight numbers on the Envy actually. Electron is -1 turn 2 fade. Although, the 2 fade is a bit exaggerated, not for the more premium plastics tho.
The active premium sensei went from being my throwing putter for wind to my throwing putter for all but super flippy or super beefy shots to now being my go-to all around putter. I love how it feels, I love how it flies, and I may just not putt with enough power but I’ve never had a spit out with it. It usually gets left out of these comps so I’m glad y’all included it.
Love throwing putters, my 2 favorites is aviarx3 and Pure White Wizards for throwing, biggest bonus for me is that the wizard powers up and down, and great for putting as well. Putter driving distance is 280 avg.
I’m not happy with my current putter, the Innova Aviar X3. I actually liked my very first putter better, the Aviar in DX plastic, but I can’t seem to throw it very far. I started throwing midrange discs for putts, just for the higher glide performance. This video shows that you can throw a putter farther than the flight rating says is possible. I’m going to take your advice and throw putters more often. Thanks for the great videos!
Yeah, true. As the video said, "most amateurs don't throw as fast as they think they do." I learned that the hard way! Right now I use a couple OS discs for rollers, but that's all.
@@Jim3Mix it still has great use for you as an OS approach disc though! That’s a necessary slot 100% Just maybe try something else out for distance throwing-putter-wise. Personally I really enjoy throwing my judges that I also putt with. Numbers are 2-4-0-1, straight/workable with integrity and a TON of glide (:
Westside Maiden is my putting putter and my throwing putter. i also use a couple of them for practicing approach accuracy. i have an Innova Invader which feels almost identical to the Maiden. (shallow rim, mostly flat top)
I throw mostly Sensei(premium and base plastic). Different stages of wear and they go from super flippy to stable, old beaten base plastic being flippy and active glow premium being most stable. Usually i bag 2-3 of those and throw them from 0-300 feet
I throw a very small bag, only 7 discs, and that includes my putting putter. That being said, the only putters I bag are and aviar for putting, a Beetle for touchy upshot, and then there is the Maestro. I love my maestro, and even though it doesn't get classified as a putter, it flies like one. I don't feel the need to bag more putters because the maestro does anything, but I do throw it all the time. It has even kicked the mids out of the bag. I could play a one discs round and not miss my others that much.
P2, flips up and holds super straight until the very end where it has a small fade, also such an amazing disc that will hold technical anhyzer lines without ever burning over.
My current favorite putter in my bag is my OTB Eclipse 2.0 Proxy. Has some slight turn with very little end fade. I would say my average full shot (non max distance and still accurate) is around 300ft (91m). Absolutely love this disc, and I'm thinking of getting a proton/prism envy and possibly a spin to compliment it (envy - overstable | proxy - neutral | spin - understable).
Not really sure what you can actually take out of this video except for the throw putters part. I don't see max distance as any kind of criteria for my throwing putters. In fact usually the slower the discs, the more stable (not over- or understable) the disc is and more consistent the result. I can throw my Wardens 300ft, but wouldn't really mind maxing out earlier as long as I got faster discs to cover for the longer holes. I get it that if you don't know the mid you are throwing the results are erratic, but throwing a straight mid you know should be pretty consistent. That being said, the video was still entertaining and certainly gets more new players to try out putters so job well done. :)
I like to know my limits with my putters. If my max controlled distance is 300ft (it isn't, unless it's downhill, more like 200ft) but I've been trying to throw whatever disc will go that far, no further. Earlier today we were throwing an open, 280ft shot, so I threw a backhand midrange that I can't quite get to 300ft and parked it. Doesn't always work so well but it worked well on a shorter course today. Glad you enjoyed the video! PSA for new players: try putters please
My trowing putter is a star colt lol. There are a lot of reverse-s and c-shaped holes on my local courses, so I throw it pretty often. I usually get around 170-200 feet on it, but I'm usually not going for distance.
The BERG was probably not in the Throwing Putter category (but you did include the Glitch). I really appreciated your thoughts on the smaller landing zone when compared to mid-ranges. That was helpful. I do play putter only rounds, mostly to stay loose during the week. Those rounds are casual, but I am rethinking that on the basis of this video. A common park DG course would have several holes under 300ft. Hummm...
Just a follow-up. I did go to my local park course last night, and...One of the things in this video that you discussed early was the average arm speed of players. I am MA3, rated at 850, with tournament play last year and 2023. The arm speed and form difference of MA3 to the MA1 player in this video should be noted. Very few MA3 players rated below 885 will throw 300+ feet with a putter and have the small area spread. I am in that 225 - 260ft range with a Luna or Fierce. But, I play with some MA1 guys who can 330 - 350ft with their putters. Just a reminder to us all that the putter is not what makes the distance; it is form and it includes arm speed.
@@stuartschwenke6656 Lots of variables here. I know a 850 rated MA3 player that bombed a Discraft Hades to 385ft on flat land and is definitely an average 350ft thrower with a 57 mph arm speed. He definitely can not throw a putter even close to 275ft. So your right its technique.
Rock and Roll! I only throw two discs, a Franklin putter and a discraft buzz mid range. I get laughs showing up with a Franklin, but I like it and it goes where I know it will (about 150-180 feet at my furthest) yes, I am weak and not flexible, but disc golf is helping me get stronger.
My favorite is the Trash Panda Inner Core. I’ve been able to hit my max distance of any disc with it at 315 feet which is also the most accurate disc I can throw.
I mainly throw Berg for distance control, I can squeeze about 90 meters out of it on a good day, but its' real job is to nail the awkward distances between 30 and 60 meters. I'm trying out the new Berg X too, it is definitely another not-as-overstable-as-expected model from Kastaplast, but I for now think it's still a welcome improvement on the classic Berg, a touch more fade for added accuracy. Sometimes I may bag something like a Fission Envy if the course absolutely requires long putter shots. In 150 class weight it gets me in the 100 meter club just barely, but long putter drives are not really my game. Entropy goes in and out depending on how tight the course is, but Troija and Berg do the chip-up duties most of the time. I used to be a big Dart thrower too. It flies marvellously in Star plastic on a backhand throw, very high-speed stable with low fade and massive glide. It's just not a great forehand disc so it eventually had to give way for something more versatile. The R-Pro and DX versions really felt like different discs and not nearly as dependable.
The only Dagger I have (I think) is a super beat-up one that someone gave my son, base plastic, probably not worth throwing for distance haha, but I bet its straight!
@@SixSidedDiscs Mine is also base plastic, zero medium. Also very beat up so I have to release it on a hyzer. But after it flips up it just goes straight.
These videos have been dope. I have done something similar and Envy was the furthest flying one for me... but your list includes some I didnt throw which I will need to try out.
It's a great disc but man do I hate trying to find it when it goes OB. That glow color is just terrible IMO. Even with that said, my Proxy is my go to straight putter at around 180ft
I love throwing the Proxy ! for gaps, mandos n such, its my most reliable - even had an ace with one of those !!! distance ? ... mmm about 70-75m on a "controlled rip".
Great vid. Love the outtaks at the end 😂😂😂 Thanks for mentioning the glitch. But have no fear, Once AMS break through to the pro level form. Thats when glitch goes full flight 450 on flat ground 😲 not myself. But I am starting to get it close to beating out my current driving putter🎉
This is great content. Would you consider doing 3 more rounds to find the straightest/longest putter? So some hyzer flip action for tight tunnels with a low ceiling? You don’t have to film throwing down an actual tunnel 😂. Also is there a list of the 25 putters?
I bag an Electron Envy and an OTB Eclipse Envy as my main throwing putters. I'm using the PA-5 400 as my understable thrower. As I'm a n00b, and old, I only reach about 250ft with my putters...
K1 Reko X is just something different imo. Takes 2-3 weeks to beat in, after that it just go straight for a very long time. Even if you put it on hyzer with more spin it still flips up and just goes straight. Much love from Sweden.
My throwing putters are: Innova star stud, goes straight with my full power shot. Slight fade at the end. My favorite throwing putter! West side discs Swan, bt soft. Touchy upshot disc. Also for heavy late understable shots. Thing has no fade. Latitude pure, gold-x. A middle ground for before mentioned. I throw them about 80meters (262 ft)
Fierce and Luna are the new ones in my bag, so I have to learn how they fly. Fierce I use, when I putt 80foot+. I can imagine, that if somebody has a good control with a new Innova Aero, it could make some records. I don´t see the list of those 25 discs, but I´m pretty sure, you didn´t use Yikun Discs Gui (is it an other name of a Prodigy disc?). I have only in a basic plastic, but it flies looooong (backhand & sidearm).
Very interesting. Also those average arm speeds. Regarding high speed drivers. The thing that makes them high speed is that they have less drag. So while they can start flying at the same speed as a slower disc. They lose that speed slower so they’ll still fly faster later in the flight. Interestingly, Lizotte showed that high speed drivers still fly well and further at lower speeds (even as slow as 40MPH). They just require better technique. The reason beginners should avoid throwing distance drivers is mainly because they do not throw nose down. That being said, high velocity is still important in getting the most out of a faster disc.
I’m so shocked I don’t see anyone talking about the Steady or Sunny Popcorn from Clash! That thing is a freaking point and shoot midrange-like putter. Perks of midrange distance with perks of a putter landing zone
I was using an XCOM Bennu pretty regular. The Reko I ordered from you all does an amazing flex flight. Not long, but a glorious shape to the flight. I'm gonna have to give the sensei I picked up form you a try. The axiom and MVP results were a little surprising to me
I’d love to see you hook up with the spinning robot throwing guy, Simon Lizotte had the video if I remember. Then maybe all the throws are consistent and the results even more accurate? This video was excellent, but you can see some inconsistencies like the side to side angles, and the height angles. Which do make a difference of course. Eventually I want the PDGA to make the numbers for discs part of their approval process too. (Using stuff like robot testing, and computer simulations)
I throw putters a fair bit and my go tos are the Thought Space Praxis for straight to slightly overstable shots and the Trash Panda Inner Core for hyzer flip and turn over shots. Both have very high glide and I was surprised by the distance I was able to get with them. My best distance on the Praxis is about 290 ft and the best on my Inner Core is 275-280 ft. Great content, keep it up!
Love throwing putters! I've always encouraged others to do so as well. There are a few more factors to consider when throwing putters, however. They tend to be more sensitive to nose angle and off-axis torque (OAT). I threw Pro Aviars for over a decade before exploring Luna, Envy, and others. I settled on the Discmania Link because it is the most OAT resistant. I can smash it hard and trust it not to flip, even if I'm tired and the nose angle is off and the form gets a little dirty. Normally I would expect such a putter to have a lot of fade, but the Link does not! It doesn't glide as far as other putters, only getting comfortably out to 275 or so, but I think that's a good thing. If I'm putting my main throwing putter over 300', then what am I carrying mids for?
For me it comes down to when I need a huge Skip, strong wind, occasional fh, or low ceiling were a putter just doesnt cut it. Or I might need that little bit extra d and dont have to throw as hard to achieve with a mid.
According to Dave Dunipace who invented the flight numbers, glide, turn and fade is based upon the speed of the disc. If you throw the Luna more than 3 speed it should start getting more flippy, the question is what is 3 speed? but i doubt is over 300 ft. Colt and Luna is probably the only discs with the correct flight numbers.
To reduce confusion it should be labelled "Throw Speed" or "ArmSpeed" (for mids and up anyways). And I do wish manufacturers wouldn't lie about some discs' glide to make them look better (for example, instead of rating the River 8s 5g, marketing decided that the numbers would look more impressive, helping sales, if they called it a 7s 7g instead. and they were right. since then, mislabelling discs is catching on)
A throwing putter that doesnt get talked about much that i really like is the innova invader. I think it was supposed to be innovas answer to the berg. It's no berg, but it is definitely not what youd call glidey. Im not a very good discgolfer, but when im taking an upshot, like, a real thrown upshot, and i just need to place sonething under the basket, its been fantastic. Its not glidey and i dont have good armspeed, but i can probably put it to 220 with good accuracy. Great disc imo. If im looking for glide on a shot, im going to reach for a mid rather than a putter, but maybe thats something i could improve and try throwing the putter more.
Im throwing a star colt right now and its straight to mildly understable. But my arm speed is getting my drivers just over 300. Current best throw is around 330. Id say its aggressively understable for him because of his armspeed.
PA-3 is easy 300 feet for a zero arm like mine; but 6x ESP Luna, a wee bit over-stable, can take max torque w/o turning over and likes wind better than most.
I bag a berg, toro, halo aero, and a neutron spin. I've parked a 280ft hole with the spin. But I can pump the aero out to 300. The praxis can also get out to 300 once you beat it in. But yeah, throw more putters. Kills me to see so many players that would benefit from learning how to throw putters. Hardest part to get over is the grip. Power gripping putters doesn't work for me, I had to learn how to fan grip with the nose down. Curious to try a fierce / luna... I'm always on the lookout for bomb putters.
I have a cryZtal Fierce and I agree it is an amazing throwing putter, one of my favorites ever. Another favorite not shown in this video is the MVP Atom, it's a perfect approach disc IMO
Putters aren't great when thrown with a thumber. For short ranges, Innova Champion Monster or soft plastic Surge (depending on whether I need skip/slide or not) is my go to disc 👀
I do throw putters for long-ish fairway shots, and even off the tee. But I use a fan grip. I do that because I just have a harder time holding the thin rim of a putter with a power grip. Because I don't use a power grip for throwing putters, I obviously don't throw as far. But I can be quite accurate with them.
For me harp from Westside is the most consistent approach putter for me, and I love throwing it, yesterday I actually did my first ace with a harp on a hole about 70 meter I guess about 220 feet
I putt with Lunar Wizards and I throw a Money Blend Wizard and a Winter Wizard. Laser straight with a soft finish at the end, and they hold whatever line you put it on.
I currently bag a Soft Neutron Envy, Glow Proxy, Electron Firm Proxy, Lucid Ice Sockibomb Slammer, K1 Berg, and a Halo Aero. My favorite one to throw has been the Electron Firm Proxy for a while. The farthest I've thrown the Proxy is 360+ ft. Yes, the Luna/Fierce in premium plastics are bombers. The Big Z Fierce I have and the 2022 ESP Luna's I have fly identical to each other.
The problem with driving with putters is that the rim depth doesn't allow me to release them cleanly with any level of consistency. I'm sure this is partly a 'me' problem, but I'm not sure if I should change grip substantially to throw a putter rather than simply using a Mako or something similar that doesn't have the same problem. I have small hands and it also makes throwing high speed (>speed 9 or so) drivers difficult as well.
If your proton Pilot is throwing OS that's just variation in that disc. I have dozens of Pilots, and proton, especially once moderately worn, is the most US of the premium plastic Pilots available. I've gotten my neutron Pilots out to 325' in the field, and it's almost a different disc than the other plastics.
im not surprised the pure and the reko didnt make it. i recently bought those 2 to find a new putting-putter and got those 2 because they only have 13 or 14mm rim depth to see if a more shallow putter would finally give me a more comfortable putting grip. and since they are so shallow i assume they dont go as far since they still have that putter edge but lose glide
Got 3 throwing putters Prodiscus Jokeri for overstable Prodiscus Origo for straight Westside Swan Reborn undestable Mostly using for upshots it just started so maby should try them on the tee too?
What?! My P Model S (Duraflex) is so darn understable for its numbers, the P Model US got it by several tics in stability. A "normal" headwind and it will go from steep hyzer to throller often. :S I would not react unless the manufacturer itself got the numbers messed up in the same line. Nice video! =) Would be nice to see the JOKERi fly ^_^ Oh, and how much more stable is the ESP Tour series Fierce compared to a Cryztal Sparkle one? My 3x European Open commerative seems way less stable.
And favorite putters are the JOKERi, Sensei/Knife/Gui/Sea Otter (99% identical, not thrown the Sea Otter), my most favorite if it were available in premium plastics here would maybe be the Deputy, its just a little bit more comfortable than the Fierce to throw and would get to 300' i am sure.. The furthest throws are 250-280' with a downhill Electron Envy reaching +300'. I am working out what to use between the Pig and the Suspect as well, both are "4 speed putt & approach" midrange discs... Loving the feel of the R-Pro Pig but the releases on the Lucid Suspect are cleaner...
Yea this P Model S was so beefy, every throw. I'm not sure about the ESP Tour Series Fierce compared to others, I know the Fierce is typically plenty understable and the Cryztal Sparkle plastic tends to be more overstable. We threw the Jokeri in this video and it was pretty beefy as well. Didn't make the top 10.
Thx for the reply! Surprised the JOKERi were not able to be pushed out to be on the list in any round, guess it needs to glide on a substantial headwind to stay on a turn for a bit =)
So a 3 fade is supposed to be? (talking about the luna)...recently saw a video by Dunipace...eye opening ! .....He said people often mistake the numbers as universal....meaning a 5 glide for a speed 12 is the same as 5 glide for a speed 7.....NO! the rest of the numbers (glide, turn, fade) are ONLY to be compared to the disc in a single speed category......I wonder if this is true for other manufactures???? Has to be.....but getting back to the Luna,....a 3 "LOW" speed fade can be right as long as the disc in that speed category with the same flight numbers but a different fade # act accordingly...meaning a 5 low speed fade would fight back more on a turn over shot and a 1 would continue to turn over more.....not familiar with the other Discraft putters.....just putting some thoughts out there! enjoying the channel!
Flight number don't matter if you take them at face value and don't consider context and the many things that affect a flight. You don't know the flight till you try a disc for sure but the flight number in general do an okay job at giving you an idea of the flight before throwing the disc.
The glitch result is surprising. I’m relatively new to the sport and my PB drive is 340 feet. I threw a glitch 285 feet last week on a calm day. Maybe it likes lower arm speed. Maybe it’s the altitude (I live at 6500 feet). Maybe I’m just that good. Who knows.
Hah! Too funny. Radar gun at my last tournament. Both myself and friend are >55yo and in MA2: 53mph! the MA1 friend 42yo: 63mph. Very close to what your friend saw. My question is how far should a 53mph arm be able to throw a disc? and what speed should I be throwing to get max flight? Granted, I could throw maybe a 155g Trespass Lucid (12 5 -0.5 3) and throw farther than 168g Lonestar Lariat(9 5 -1 1). So many factors play into it. Especially wind. Like your disc comparison videos. Keep on doing! Luna 3303 is not what I saw. More like 33-10.5. Not over stable for me either mister 53mph. Who does these flight numbers. I doubt Paul McBeast was the tester. Maybe Hannah was:)
@@SixSidedDiscs there’s also the shaman, chief, and tomb but I find they just overlap with the four speeds I prefer. I bag PA3’s and a wizard but I find I don’t reach for them as much. I’m also maybe not a great example case as arthritis plays a big role in my disc choices. Thanks for the great video, and the apt response
the Westside Maiden and the Innova Invaders have pretty shallow rims (which is why i use them). they feel more like short mid-ranges than putters, to me.
I’d love to see how the Westside Maiden stacks up to the rest of the throwing putter field!
That’s my go to, I’m sad cause mines so beat in now. I wish that bt medium would last a little longer, I love this it so much
I came here to say this! The maiden on a clean release goes as far as my fairway drivers.
Westside Discs love!!! Love it.❤
I love the feel of the maiden. I like to throw it, but I already have favorite putter so I don't always have a place for it in my bag. Gotta love the maiden; never a hated disc
The shield is such a fun putter to throw. Shield and P2 are my favorite throwing putters.
Did you list the 25 putters used? I only see the top 10 each rounds. Would like to know what putters were used in the comparison.
The warden, and the sensei are my favorite putters. The Sensei in active, regular and soft plastic are fantastic! Very affordable discs and in my bag.
You should do a video about which putter flies the straightest! Love these series keep them coming!
Trash Panda Inner Core
Good idea! LOFT says their Hydrogen model is the "World's Straightest Putter." It would be interesting to see if that claim holds up.
@@Jim3Mix
I have thrown the baseline founders edition loft a lot. personally I felt like the baseline keystone from a couple trilogy challenges ago, was my go to off the tee. definitely would give the loft a run for its money on straight line.
I enjoyed both of them.
Now that was before the glitch, ID be very surprise to see anything straighter then the glitch.
I pretty much stopped throwing any disc over speed 8 and my game improved immensely. Great video!
Same here
Firstly, I'm a beginner/novice.
I would be interested in a video that tests which disc are most accurate (or straight) at a normal effort throw and distance, such as between 150 to maybe 250 or 300 feet max.
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video! Was the Judge in a premium plastic included? Those babies have a TON of glide!
Well put. These points should be posted on the DGPT site and on a board at every course
I started throwing more putters and mids to work on form and control accuracy and have loved how much my game has changed in such a short amount of time. I personally love the Innova Invaders for putting and throwing. The Innova Wedge is a fun really understable putter great for some hyzer flip to turnover lines in the woods
I love throwing the Inner Core on straight drives. I use my Zone for meat-hooks, and my beat-up Rhyno for straight approach shots
I love both!
I use my midrange for everything until I get close enough to basket for a putt. When I throw my putter for distance, the release is odd and doesn’t go the direction I want it to. It feels big and bulky in my hand. I’ll give it another go tho.
I have two throwing putters:
165g Inner Core for glidey straight shots
175g Star AviarX3 for approaches and hyzer throws
Inner Core is a bit flippy when I put some power on it, but when thrown on a bit of hyzer it flips up to straight and holds its line for quite a while. Played a whole round with it yesterday, and I love it for both throwing and putting.
I’m new to the game….just hit a eagle today at Riverside in Zanesville with my putter (Judge) about 150-160 ft.
Big Z lunas are typically very understable. My one at least is, and i, of course throw it nose up and even with smaller speeds it flips.
It’d be fun to see an update on throwing putters with the new discraft kratos, clash discs popcorn and candy.
The kratos is my favorite throwing putter now
Great video! I really enjoy these comparisons, and you do a supreme job with the voice-over.
I recently learned how to throw "correct" and another lesson for beginners is that midrange and putter are easier to throw because nose angle isn't as important to get the desired flight, very good for learning how to throw it before learning how to control the angle. I only throw distance drivers like 110-140 meters and midranges 80-100m which isn't a huge difference. that's about to change as I'm throwing way further very rapidly right now
also shoutout to the classic blend Warden, straightest stable no fade torque resistant putter ive thrown and its what turned me on to throwing putters
Classic Blend Judges are my putting and throwing putters! Love them!

@prattacaster Good to know I like MVP . Thanks for the information
I’m shocked the Reko didn’t do better. It’s a laser beam for me up to 300 ft so figured bigger arms would go further.
I love throwing putters. I don't have a big arm, but they go straight and controlled. Throw more putters!
Really enjoyed this breakdown, keep up the good work 👏
Love throwing putters, my 2 favorites is aviarx3 and Pure White Wizards for throwing, biggest bonus for me is that the wizard powers up and down, and great for putting as well.
AviarX3 is decently beefy/overstable so that’s probs why you’re struggling to get distance with it
Yeah, true. As the video said, "most amateurs don't throw as fast as they think they do." I learned that the hard way! Right now I use a couple OS discs for rollers, but that's all.
@@Jim3Mix it still has great use for you as an OS approach disc though! That’s a necessary slot 100%
Just maybe try something else out for distance throwing-putter-wise. Personally I really enjoy throwing my judges that I also putt with. Numbers are 2-4-0-1, straight/workable with integrity and a TON of glide (:
The Aviar3 and Invader are great throwing putters. Regular Aviar is too flippy and the X3 just flies with the breaks on.
For driving putter, it’s the Envy. Straight approaches are with an Innova Invader, but most approaches and some drives are with Zones
I'd have liked to see some aviar3 and x3!
Hummm...
Thanks for watching and glad you found it helpful! I hope your putters deliver!
That’s a great combo of control and distance, might have to try it!
New to the channel. Great work!!! I love the colored trails you add to the shots. It really makes a difference. Top notch videos!!!
This is awesome! I would suggest the dynamic discs warden as I have gotten some really nice turnover lines out to about 315
Interesting video 👍🏽 My throwing putter is the Latitude 64 Dagger. Can get it up to around 300ft and it flyes dead straight 🥏
My favourite is a Glo proxy. Dead straight flies like a Mako but slightly shorter.
It's a great disc but man do I hate trying to find it when it goes OB. That glow color is just terrible IMO.
Even with that said, my Proxy is my go to straight putter at around 180ft
@@dblevins343 yeah I wish MVP did their overmold with glow rim, and bright coloured plate plate. Hot pink highlighter solves that problem though.
don't reveal the secrets
I love throwing the Proxy ! for gaps, mandos n such, its my most reliable - even had an ace with one of those !!! distance ? ... mmm about 70-75m on a "controlled rip".
Great vid. Love the outtaks at the end 😂😂😂
Thanks for mentioning the glitch.
My throwing putters are:
Innova star stud, goes straight with my full power shot.
I did throw my RUNE putter 290 ft, in Armor plastic. And I have max 330-340 distance.
I throw my otb draco Axiom soft eclipse proxy about 280 feet, love it.
To reduce confusion it should be labelled "Throw Speed" or "ArmSpeed" (for mids and up anyways).
And I do wish manufacturers wouldn't lie about some discs' glide to make them look better (for example, instead of rating the River 8s 5g, marketing decided that the numbers would look more impressive, helping sales, if they called it a 7s 7g instead. and they were right. since then, mislabelling discs is catching on)
Dude driving putters farther than anything I can throw
A throwing putter that doesnt get talked about much that i really like is the innova invader. I think it was supposed to be innovas answer to the berg. It's no berg, but it is definitely not what youd call glidey. Im not a very good discgolfer, but when im taking an upshot, like, a real thrown upshot, and i just need to place sonething under the basket, its been fantastic. Its not glidey and i dont have good armspeed, but i can probably put it to 220 with good accuracy. Great disc imo. If im looking for glide on a shot, im going to reach for a mid rather than a putter, but maybe thats something i could improve and try throwing the putter more.
the Invader feels, to me, just like a Westside Maiden - very similar profile and flight (in my hand, anyway).
You should've tried the 2nd version Westside Swan. It's great for the understable shots and hyzerflips
Westside Maiden is a great throwing putter in VIP plastic. Unreal glide
approach discs would be a fun thing to watch too
Started throwing my proxy as my mid range approach disc and it quickly became obvious this was the correct move,.
Great video 👍 loved the bloopers as well 😂🤣
Thanks, I almost re-wrote that line I failed on like 10 times, started wondering if it was even worth it LOL
Thank you. Noobie maxing 200. Great revelation. Retired. Arm speed slow.
No PA3?
How is the Latitude 64 SINUS not in here?! The Sinus in the zero medium plastic is my jam!
Maybe look at some of the thinner putters such as Proxy or Envy? I also have small hands and it's exactly for this reason I love these 2 discs.
Great vid as usual.
Thanks Robert!
im not surprised the pure and the reko didnt make it. i recently bought those 2 to find a new putting-putter and got those 2 because they only have 13 or 14mm rim depth to see if a more shallow putter would finally give me a more comfortable putting grip. and since they are so shallow i assume they dont go as far since they still have that putter edge but lose glide
I dont throw many putters because i cant seem to find a comfortable grip. Same with mids. I do throw a harp and a berg though.
Got 3 throwing putters
Prodiscus Jokeri for overstable
Prodiscus Origo for straight
Westside Swan Reborn undestable
Mostly using for upshots it just started so maby should try them on the tee too?
What?! My P Model S (Duraflex) is so darn understable for its numbers, the P Model US got it by several tics in stability. A "normal" headwind and it will go from steep hyzer to throller often. :S I would not react unless the manufacturer itself got the numbers messed up in the same line. Nice video! =) Would be nice to see the JOKERi fly ^_^
Oh, and how much more stable is the ESP Tour series Fierce compared to a Cryztal Sparkle one?
Totally shocked about the Pure. I throw mine almost as far as my mids and a bit farther than my Proxy and Envys.
love this video
Flight number don't matter if you take them at face value and don't consider context and the many things that affect a flight. You don't know the flight till you try a disc for sure but the flight number in general do an okay job at giving you an idea of the flight before throwing the disc.
The glitch result is surprising. I’m relatively new to the sport and my PB drive is 340 feet. I threw a glitch 285 feet last week on a calm day.
Maybe it likes lower arm speed. Maybe it’s the altitude (I live at 6500 feet). Maybe I’m just that good. Who knows.
My throwing putters are: Dart, Pure, Proxy, Alter. At 73 I throw everyday. My longest birdie was at "The Fort" #15 at about 40'.
I love throwing putters, my straight putter is a Matty-O Tournament-X Maiden and it glides straight for days.. Was any Maiden in the test?
We didn't have any Maiden's on hand to test, that's a good shout tho! I used to throw a Maiden once upon a time.
@@SixSidedDiscs a Great mold! I throw it about 280-290 and my max distance with a driver is somewhere around 360
Hah!
Honestly my main reason I throw putters less often off the tee is the deep rim. I almost always prefer my 4 speeds: A4, A3, and sol
I understand that, I don't like deep rim discs either. The Envy/Proxy and the Logic aren't as deep as most putters, so I don't mind them as much.
I've found the proxy and envy feel a lot like my mid ranges.
@@dblevins343 agreed. Those are both very solid torque resistant, pretty fliers
the Westside Maiden and the Innova Invaders have pretty shallow rims (which is why i use them). they feel more like short mid-ranges than putters, to me.
