The information that has persisted since the time of the engagement interview of Meghan and Harry is that a set of great-grandparents or perhaps great-great grandparents on Doria’s side of the family were actually siblings. I first saw this in a chat from a woman who left this astonishing comment. She claimed her family had known Doria’s mother’s family for many years. This bit of family lore was an open secret but only talked about in hushed whispers. Have you by chance come across this information too?

Yes, I did see this. It had to do with her grandmother Jeanette's father, James and his half-sister, Nettie Mae. Because Jeanette was raised by Nettie Mae, I think that led people to believe that she was biologically James and Nettie Mae's. But based on her stillborn twin's birth certificate, it was clear that James and Christine were the parents, and not James and Nettie Mae.

I see, thanks for explaining all of this. The woman who left the comment wasn’t trying to be rude or sensational she was just telling things as she had always heard them to be. She felt this family “secret” explained the behaviour and temperament of MM and her mother.
So, if this persistent story about the family isn’t true why has no one in the family ever come forward to set the record straight?

To be honest, I had never heard this rumor until I researched her history for this project. I saw a comment on Jeanette's Find A Grave record that said she was not Nettie Mae's daughter. I never found Jeanette's birth certificate, but I did find the birth certificate of the stillborn boy born on October 4, 1929, to James Arnold and Christine Harrison. Though Jeanette's birth was reported to be September 4, 1929, I have seen even the year of birth change over time. I thought the fact that it was the same day of the month and only 1 month later that it was her twin. Otherwise, we are saying that James conceived a child with Christine at age 17, whom he would later marry, and a child with his half-sister Nettie Mae within the same month, which seems like an unfair characterization.

I was able to trace her back 8 generations to 1817 but there really aren't public records that would trace her to Nigeria. That she discovered through DNA.

@@howyoucametobe3787 that she made up through "dna" ?

I think the fact that I was able to trace her to the Pre-Civil War American south, that she may actually have Nigerian roots. Google said 14.6% of American slaves originated from what is present day Nigeria.

No she's Italian, no Caucasian, no Nigerian??????

I didn't trace down every line of her ancestry, so she could be Italian. She is definitely part Caucasian, and I think that being from the Pre-Civil War American South, she could very well be Nigerian, but records cannot confirm this, she likely did a DNA test. According to Google, 14.6% of American slaves came from present day Nigeria.
