In this etab tutorial video i have explained the Difference between shell thin and membrane type slab and comparison between shell type slab and membrane and also explained when to use shell and when to use membrane in slab design . Etabs tutorial for shell and membrane difference
What is difference between shell thin and membrane
What is difference between shell thick and membrane
    Stiffness of slab
    shear and moment is slab
How to see shear forces in slab
How to see moment in slab
How to check deflection in slab
    Membrane vs shell type slab
    When to use membrane
    When to use shell
Membrane type Slab properties list :
    No moment in slab
    No shear in slab
    Slab flexural stiffness is zero
Transfer all moment/Shear to supporting members
    No displacements/rotation results
    Cannot be auto-meshed
Un-Realistic(highly conservative design of supporting members i.e Usually used in beam design as it transfers all forces)
If manually meshed then it changes load transfer pattern making it more un-realistic
Cannot be used when designing slab
Property modifiers incorporating cracked moment of inertia cannot be applied
Shell type Slab properties list :
    Takes moment in slab
    Takes shear in slab
    Slab flexural stiffness is considered
First it absorbs considerable amount of moment/shear then transfers forces to supporting members
Displacements/rotation results at nodes (meshing mandatory Refer video part 1 and 2 -Link in description)
    Can be auto-meshed
    Realistic as slab has stiffness
Meshing refines results without changing load transfer pattern
Can be used when designing slab
Property modifiers incorporating cracked moment of inertia can be applied

En este video tutorial de etab he explicado la Diferencia entre losa de Shell delgada y de tipo membrana y la comparación entre la losa tipo shell y membrana, y también he explicado cuándo usar shell y cuándo usar la membrana en el diseño de la losa.

Kindly brief more about moments and shear notations, i.e. M22, M11, V22, V11 etc.

Could you show the results of vibration mode between membrane and thin slab?

What if I consider membrane and then I apply rigid diaphragm on slab. Will it behave as a shell as it become more stiffer than membrane?

Membrane by nature will not take any stresses ltself unlike actuall slab, independent of diaphragm

Why did you modify bending properties of the section? i mean, what is the approach for it?

Tell me the simple difference between Shell .plate and Membrane used in ETABS with examples plz

Shell element is most closed representation of the Structural slab, while membrane is just to reduce the model complication/run time and transfer loads directly to frames

What is the difference between she'll and plate?
    She'll thin
    She'll tjick
    Plate thin
    Plate thick.

Shell thick is used in raft and footing design . Thin is for slab design

@@EngineeringLearningPlatform can u explain me about plate?

    • @EngineeringLearningPlatform
      @EngineeringLearningPlatform  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Plate is unually a shell phenomenon in which no beam pr drop panel supports the shell element that is slab, and slab directly rests on column, nevertheless we still use shell for flat plate type slab as it is tried previously for accuracy and cross check with books solved examples and other deaign softwarez
