How can anyone say Hayden played Anakin poorly. To me, his acting was completly spot on as a man who is on the brink of losing everything. Even himself. I really think he nailed the confusion and hardship he had to go through with his character and from my personal experience dealing with death and social issues, he was absolutely spot on for what he had to act through his characters hardship and the craziness of having to deal with the potential loss of Padme. Im sure alot of us would go to the dark side to save the one we love.

I agree it’s hard to act a war veteran with a lot of ptsd who is stressed to the braking point who also just became a father. Who just learned that he was going to lose his wife all that collimates into desperation a man says he can save her where the jedi says to let her go. Ultimately the decision is between the sith who says he can save her or the jedi who can’t.
@@jabronisauce6833gest one is anakin killing kids. But i compare him to jeffrey dhamer in some aspects - they both did horrendous things. They both felt weird about their feelings and intentions, and wanted questions answered and wanted help. Both were shrugged off by peers. They both let their desires and emotions get the best of them as they are both unstable. You kinda feel bad for the dudes - led down terrible paths and beaten by their own hands. No excuses for their actions of course since those were choices they made, but in their minds it was the only choice available to help them relive their inner struggle.
For anakin in the end when he lets go of his hatred when luke saves him reminds me of people on their deathbeds reflecting back on their lives with all the negative crap they did, how they felt, keeping records of wrong, being an asshole to people to get ahead, not being their for family (the list goes on) and thunking to themselves “what the hell was it all for?” All that wasted time to realize it all meant nothing and was pointless. In the end, it’s the memories you share with family, friends, wife/husband, etc and to build bridges again because we only have so long to live for.
This gives my flashbacks to the good ol days, before the dark times... Before Disney

@@LozPlaya Sorry, but I completely disagree. In what was is Anakin 'controlling' or 'possessive' of Padme? In what was does he consider or treat her as 'less than human'? They had differences of opinion politically, but they mostly worked through those. You say he was not willing to give up anything of himself for her, but that is not the case at all. The man near enough worshiped her.
You'll probably say he was not even willing to leave the Jedi for her, but he actually was. He would have left the Order in a moment if she asked him to, but she did not because she knew how it was basically all he'd ever known and gave him so much purpose. He even says to his Padawan, Ashoka Tano in The Clone Wars series "I know how it feels to want to walk away from the Jedi".
Actually, Padme herself had something of a vested interest in their marriage remaining a secret, because its revelation would have damaged her political career. So was she being selfish? Yes, to some extent. Anakin had actually been willing to give her up and stop pursuing her until she declared her love for him towards the end of The Clone Wars series.
Not being willing to allow your loved one to suffer a horrible and preventable death does not equate to being 'possessive' or 'controlling' of them. Don't forget this was also a young man who had already lost almost everyone else he'd ever cared about. Qui Gonn Jinn to a Sith assassin in a largely unnecessary mission on Naboo, his mother to the Tusken raiders, his Padawan because of the Jedi council's arrogance and self-righteousness.
When he sought help, he was just given platitudes. In Anakin's circumstances just being told to 'let her go' was the worst thing anyone could say. It is rather like a person whose spouse has been diagnosed with curable cancer being told by a doctor that they should not seek treatment because its God's will for her to die, and they should be happy about it, to boot. It's fatalism, pure and simple.
It wasn't compassionate, it wasn't wise. I think he accepted that they would one day be separated by death, that was a fact of life. It was more the caste that he had been raised to believe he was 'special' and had supernatural powers, but those must have seemed pointless if he just kept losing everyone, and it ways that could have been prevented. Easily prevented.
Anakin would have given his own life to save Padme if he'd believed that was the only way. I'm certain of it. He faced death all the time in The Clone Wars and was willing to put his life on the line for the Jedi and the Republic all the time during The Clone Wars so the idea that he wasn't willing to die for her is just absurd.
As for Kylo Ren, the whole Force Healing thing is basically something that Disney invented for the sequels. It simply does not apply to the OT or the Prequels and was not a possibility that even existed for the characters.

I am sick of people talking shit about the prequels. At least it’s not like the sequels that are basically a remake that Disney decided at the last minute to join it up to everything else. These movies I feel gives the saga more meaning, more origin. And these movies are the root of the saga

The original director/producers made the prequels so it could connect with the original trilogy, unlike Disney, they put making money a priority rather than good story-telling.
The prequels are so epic! The story is action packed, happy, sad and so much more all at once!

It would be awesome if they copied Avengers Endgame. Say Rey is getting her ass whooped by the emperor and Kylo. Then as Rey forces herself to get up and continue fighting and stand alone against them you hear Anakins voice speak to her “Rey......on your left” and behind her you see a portal open and the force ghost of Anakin walks out of it. Rey and Kylo are looking in amazement and the emperor is laughing as hundreds of thousands of storm troopers with their vehicles and stuff are arriving on the scene along with hundreds of star destroyers coming out of the sky. Then dozens of other portals appear and open out comes the force ghost of every Jedi who ever lived! Then the emperors grin turns into a look of “ooooh shit!!!”. And then a epic battle ensues.

This is why the jedi are the true evil in star wars, they shun emotion, they pretend it doesnt exist, and when the emotion is too real to pretend its false, you fall. This is why Anakin is one of my most favorite characters in fiction. He didn’t turn to darkness for wealth or lust of power or anything materialistic or pleasurable. He went to the dark side because he believed it was the only way to save the woman he loved. What man wouldn’t do what he did? I’m not counting killing younglings though. I couldn’t ever do that. But everything else he did yes! Unfortunately Sidious knew Anakins fear and manipulated him.
Sidious did not just manipulate him. He literally groomed Anakin from childhood, which makes me hate him all the more :( Anakin would never have trusted or turned to him in the hour of greatest need, and would not have been so manipulated were it not for that. Were he not to have grown to trust, and in a sense, 'love' him. Palpatine knew Anakin desperately needed a father figure, and groomed him to see himself as that. One who would listen without judgement, and had his best interests at heart.
When in reality, he was just a power crazed maniac, who wanted him as his apprentice,- or rather his slave. He wanted someone he could control and own completely, body and soul. He wanted someone who depended on him entirely, for their very life even. Vader became all of those things, but in the end was redeemed by love.
The irony was that by turning to the dark side he brought about the very loss he feared.
Exactly people always say “well obiwan didn’t turn to the dark side” WELL Anakins perspective on it is different, first of all he was groomed by palatine Since he was 9, yoda gave terrible advice and they wouldn’t rank him master (becoming master, it’s like a step that you could learn new force powers, witch one could be force feeling it would have given him access to that power) like you said he went for one pacific thing, witch was the power to save his wife, he didn’t want to join the dark side and become a Sith, he just wanted to learn and get that one power, he didn’t go for revenge or in anger or hate, but the dark inside grew on him, it took over, took advantage of his hate, anger, and fear and he became a Sith, but that’s not what he went in for.

Anakin is actually really relatable for me, he had such a desire to protect the ones he loved, and that love got manipulated into turning him into a murderer and killing the ones he loved. Now, I'm not gonna turn into a murderer or anything, but for me, his story of being tortured for much of his life is the same as me, I have lots of things that torture my mind, and he did as well.
D&RG Railfan I identified really well with anakin growing up and always wanted to be like him. Aside from the fact he turned to the dark side it was sooo relatable for me that he wanted to do whatever necessary to save the ones he loved. He was bullied and manipulated, similar to me in my younger years and his story just helped me growing up. Thanks for this comment! I seriously appreciate it! How far are you willing to go to keep the ones you love safe? Would you do anything to save them? Anakin was. He did. He let himself become what he’d wrestled against in his heart his whole life. Anything to save her. And in doing so, he became the one who killed her. He was the enemy in his nightmares. So he was trapped in agony the rest of his life. All in vain.

And his son brought him back from the brink. Imagine Vader wrestling with the fact that his son survived after believing all these years that he was dead. In the end, Luke was the piece that he needed to come back to the light.

Yes and no. People don't always realize that Anakin's dreams weren't just 'dreams'. He's had prophetic dreams before. When he was a child, he had visions of one day being a Jedi. When he was a Padawan, he dreamed his mother was in danger. He'd come to realize his dreams tended to come true (and not the good ones). He thought something unnatural was going to happen to threaten Padme's life, and in the end it did.

He’s the most relatable character maybe of all times. Torn between choices and emotional...Qu-gon is the only one that could have trained him. He could have been the father he never had, Obi-Wan did the best he could but he was more of older brother and he didn’t fully understand him he loved him but didn’t understand and wasn’t prepared to train someone like Anikin. Qui Gon was his master and guidance he had an unspoken understanding of Anakin. Obi Wan did not.. He took him as padawan as his masters wishes. Obi Wan had more mind on council etc. Vs. Guiding Anakin.
It’s crazy because back when these movies first came out everyone bashed Hayden and his portrayal of Anakin. The bad portrayals in the new movies really shed light on how good he was. He had by far, the greatest portrayal of a Jedi and a Sith and I’m happy to see he’s finally getting the credit he long deserved.

I absolutely loved the part at 5:36 where you put the line "we can end this destructive conflict- and bring order to the galaxy!" But it cut from empire strikes back to revenge of the sith when he asked padmè the same thing. Its small but to me was very effective. Hearing to voice of the Vader over Anakin Skywalker.
Edit: Just watched it again 2 months later, and it still gives me chills every time. When he tells Padme that they can rule the galaxy, he's no longer Anakin Skywalker speaking. He is Darth Vader.

This royally pissed me off with Ep9. It wasn’t a good conclusion to the saga, it was a giant middle finger to everyone who remembers the entire saga and the struggles Anakin went through. Breaks my heart that the series was handled with such indifference.

MY HEART!!! augh, this edit is so touching about how truly loving Anakin and Padme's relationship was and how much Anakin was totally screwed over by both the Jedi and Sidious both of whom used him for his power, while Anakin just wanted to protect those he loved.

When Anakin/Vader say “You where right Luke, you where right about me” I actually cried.
This tribute clearly brings a tear to the eye. Anakin tried hard to be upstanding and forthright. He was clearly pulled from different sides. He even managed to express love through all that (with Padme) and foster two of the greatest heroes in history (Luke and Leia). And he gets pummeled and assaulted from all sides throughout all this. Who wouldn't have an ending like he had. Humbly submitting to the truth Luke had to offer. What a story arc. Good job, George, you have expressed some of the greatest pain and conflict in history. I weep for Anakin, who tried to love and got thrown under the bus. Star Wars was indeed the story of and redemption of Anakin. From beginning to end. Long live Anakin.
Yes, this totally this. There is one thing that I *WISH* had come over more in the Revenge of the Sith movie, but is in the novel. It shows that Palpatine was not actually the first person that Anakin turned to in his efforts to save Padme, but mentions how he spent weeks without sleeping, , devoting all his free time to searching through all the texts and writings in the library at the Jedi Temple in the hopes of finding something that could help him. Its also explained that was one of the reasons he wanted to attain the rank of Master, because only Masters could gain access to the restricted section.
Its just so sad. He was desperately trying, through the Jedi, to find the knowledge and get the help he needed. Turning to Palpatine was really the last resort. And he knew it, Anakin only turned to him out of desperation at a time when he was both physically and emotionally exhausted.

Growing up I thought Anakin was just a bad guy. Someone who just hated everything. But now as an adult, I see that Anakin only wanted to protect the people he loved. His mind was tortured with thoughts of people dying, and he did what he thought was right to save them. Anakin’s story is timeless and powerful
As Vader he hated everything, but he hated himself most of all. People don't realize that, they think Vader was some proud and arrogant person who loved himself and just wanted power for himself all along. He wasn't. His hate for the world was really an expression of his own self-loathing.

@@laklomp I disgree. I think a lot of what people take as arrogance in Anakin is false bravado. He's basically faking it and pretending to be a lot more confident and capable then he is, and he never called himself Chosen One. That's signifigant.

At first I always thought his downfall was because of his greed for power, but after rewatching the prequels and clone wars and now this video, I realized his downfall was his fear of losing the ones he loved. He was so stoic and fearless out on the battlefield, he didn't fear his own death, but he did fear the death of his loved ones. He only wanted to power so he could stop losing all the people he loves, he didn't care that much about being the best, he just didn't want to be lonely like he had been all his life until padme showed up. Obviously he always had Obi-wan but sometimes even obi-wan disappointed him and didn't care for him as much as he could have. Anakin is just a lonely slave boy who wants to save the love of his life.

I really love anakins character because you can see him growing as a person and his character development. Everything he does is for love. He loves his family, he loved Padmé, but palpatine manipulates him into beliving that he could save her bc he knew that he would turn bad for padme.

Life, joy, and peace radiated around her. I slowly reached to brush a strand of hair from her face and felt her warm skin on my hand. "Oh...Padame..... I've missed you....." Padame laughed, "Ani? What do you mean? No one has gone anywhere." But before I could answer, Padame grasped my hand and said, "Come, Luke and Leia will be waiting." I didn't try to stop her. She lead me through the place where we had stayed a long time ago, though this time there were children's paintings on the walls, and toys laying about. The sign of a happy and well cared for home. I walked into another balcony where 2 small children were playing on the floor. Once I came into the room, the boy ran to my side, and the girl went into her mother's arms. The boy excitedly said, "Father! Tell me another Jedi story!" I smiled and said, "Luke-- my son..." The girl cut in calling out, "No! Father, tell us about the wars and your padawan!" I smiled and said,"Leia-- my daughter..." Padame interjected saying, "Children, children, father can tell us everything. He won't be going anywhere!" She laughed joyfully and looked deep into my eyes. I caught her gaze, and instantly her joy turned to horror as the happy household melted away, with strangers carrying away our children far away. A new scene of a molten planet surrounded us. I watched as my love confronted an old version of myself. "Anakin, all I want is your love. Come away with me." She pleaded with tears streaking down her face. I watched on as Padame said, "I don't know you anymore... Anakin, you are breaking my heart..... You are going down a path I cannot follow... I love you." I watched devastated as the old Anakin ruthlessly began to choke the life out of Padame. When he finally let her go, she fell to the floor limp and broken. I then was suddenly with Padame as she breathed her last words. She shakily said, "I know... I know there is still good in him..." I fell to the floor hard and placed my hand on hers. Slowly it grew cold. "Oh Padame.... what have I done? What have I become?"
I gasped and bolted upright. Taking slow shaky breaths I recalled my dream which would haunt me forever. "All I want is your love." The words flew like arrows, pricing through my armor. I shook my head and got out of bed. I stared at my saber which had killed thousands. What had I become? Looking into a mirror, I saw the helmet of anger, hate, destruction, death, and evil strapped securely onto my head. Softly I said to myself, "There is nothing I can do. She's gone. I must move on." I moved from the mirror and lit my saber, and went onto another rampage of death. "I love you......" Her words still surge through my mind.

Anakin is truly a tragic hero, in the classical sense of the term. He serves as a sort of cautionary tale of how even the best person can fall, even the righ motives can go wrong, but also that nobody is beyond redemption. Love did indeed, in the end, conquer all.

marvelous. truly marvelous. I find it amazing how although through the lens of the Jedi, Anakins turn to the Dark Side was destroying balance, when really the removal of the Jedi order and such brought more balance to the force than when the Jedi were superior.
