    I wonder how hydrophobic the pavement is where Jimbo tests his products.. could be a funny video

    Meguiars mentioned in a video that the reason you want to wipe it in the first time is because if you have no protection on the paint the panel will be flooded and the product wouldn't be able to penetrate the water to bond to the paint. If you already have some form of protection on the paint then you can go ahead and spray and rinse even on the initial application

    About 14 sprays with maguire, so 9 more than the turtle wax ceramic wet wax. Not really fair I think. Especially as it was a comparison. But that's exactly what you supposed to do with the t w dry & shine , so interesting to see. Where does is say spray and rins of second time, cant find it on the label (t w c wet w).

    With the meguiars product generally I find it works better if you spray it onto the panel then 'activate' it by spraying it with the heavy mist/light shower setting on my pressure washer before rinsing it off with a strong stream of water. This allows the product to distribute itself across the panel better and give it a bit more of an opportunity to bond to the clearcoat.

    Used the Meguiars, but been impressed with the Hybrid Solutions Wash and Wax. Simple to apply and really works. It also does a great job restoring black trim. About $13 for 48 fl oz and use only 3 fl oz per wash.
    Not found anything though that lasts more than a few days in winter

    A couple of weeks ago I tried an off label use for the meguiars hybrid ceramic wet wax. I used it as a tire dressing and I have to say I was very surprised. Nice sheen and repells water. Nice video idea!!

    I've tried both, and the Turtle Wax works a tad better. The real key is to rub it in and wipe off the first time, as you found out. I'm going to keep using the TW, keep it off the windows for sure, and wipe on/off every 2-4 uses.

    • @reeb9016
      @reeb9016 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's how I understood it. I thought TW was better getting the water off until it was actually wiped on and then Meguiers looked better. Camera angle/lighting may have been deceptive though.

    Thanks for the video Jim. I’d say if you want to do a quick wax for maintenance without having to go over the whole car and dry it off, This is a good application. And I would 100% go with the turtle wax because I actually emailed Maguires about the hybrid ceramic wax and they at first said that it did provide UV protection but then I found online another rep said that it didn’t and that they don’t claim UV protection and then when I brought that to the attention of a representative he had to reach out to research and development and confirmed that the hybrid ceramic wax does not provide UV protection so I am completely turned off by that product

      And to support this posts recommendation here is the link to the turtle wax SDS sheet and all of their new spray waxes contain ~5 separate UV inhibitors.

    Unless the directions were updated, I don't think the TW wet wax was made to spray and rinse. It's a drying aid to compliment the ceramic spray coating or any other base layer coating. Unless that has changed.

    Very interesting video my friend. It seems like recommended method of application works in this case. Equally interesting and surprising to see Meguiar’s product reacting better. This could be due to TW was not given enough time to settle in.
    I have tried something similar on my side where I have prep the car by the book and applied Meguiar’s HCW like Ceramic coating with MF applicator pad. I have waited 12 hours between applications and applied 3 times. After that I gave 72 hours to settle it down in heated garage and results were outstanding. Specially subsequent washes were just like a breeze and I have sprayed very minimal amount to restore to its full glory. Now I am up my 10 normal two bucket wash and the beading is still strong.

    Definitely a fun only video. I have been using TW Wet Wax as a drying agent for the last 7 months every other week and it's fantastic. So, after watching you play around with them I decided to check prices at Amazon since their price is nationwide, Meguiars was $19.74 and Turtle Wax was $8.99. Then I looked at three national chains weekly adds and didn't see any $5 discount at Walmart, O'Reilly's or Pep boys for Meguiars. So, basically Meguiars is more than double the price. Also your first spray with Meguiars used 12 sprays not 5 like you only used with the Turtle Wax. But you did do the two sprays equally on each side. Your pop up guest, Brian or Bryan, was right, Turtle Wax had beading, Meguiars didn't. It was weird, I agree but I usually purchase products to get the advertised results, so I follow the directions.

  • @sethwalker8952
    @sethwalker8952 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s a solid drying aid but I’ll use it for maintenance washes that way. The way I typically use it is I’ll prep the surface dry it, and then use the spray wax and then dry it completely. I feel like it’s more durable and performed a bit better that way rather than using it solely as a drying aid to get maximum protection. You said it best about at what point are you washing product down the drain? I found my method above to be best.

    You want to try an off-label experiment with wet wax? Use it like a spray on sealant ... mist on, wipe in and buff off (there isn't much buffing off to do). I just did this to my black Camaro and it looks and feels incredible. Try THAT with the Meg's HCW ... Hint: It will be a nightmare... I did it this way with both and the Wet Wax was AWESOME, the HCW was horrible.

  • @adrianlawrence7224
    @adrianlawrence7224 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I use the MCW with the foundational method every time I use it. It's so easy why wouldn't you? I've no faith in the spraying it over the roadway method, other than it gives great water repellentcy in the drains.

    Thanks. Meg's HCW seemed to be game changing for consumers last year when it came out. A ceramic spray wax/sealant with good beading, durability and ease of use. However, it seems the spray and rinse method isnt the best way to use it and is more a gimmick to appeal to lazy people about how easy it is to "wax" your car. In reality, as a drying aid by wiping it in and maybe rinsing it afterwards isnt much harder. Its still a spray wax and all you have to do is wipe in it like you would when drying your car. Unless you're the person who only uses air to dry.

    It seems like you just like the Turtle Wax more than the Meguiar's. You sprayed that Meguiar's in the same spot like three times.
    When I wash, I rinse, spray wax, then rinse off, then dry. I rarely, I think only once, ever rinse, spray wax, then wipe dry.
    I've been using the Meguiars products for about 6 months now. Meguiar's Wet Wax, easy, spray on, rinse off, lasts for weeks of driving. I don't know how long it lasts, I wash my car at least once a week, sometimes more. It is never without protection. The Meguiar's Wet Wax just does it's job. I've got the Meguiar's Detailer but I don't like it; it streaks and is more a pain to apply than the Wet Wax.
    I've also got the Turtle Wax products. Same thing with the Turtle Wax Detailer, it streaks then I have to wipe it off. I have also just sprayed on the Turtle Wax Ceramic Wax and then rinsed it off. It works.
    With both products, they seem to work a little better if you spray them on and wipe them off. Also from what I've seen, Turtle Wax seems to hold up to abuse a little longer than Meguiar's.
    I plan on continuing to use up all of my Meguiar's products and then using Turtle Wax for a while. - '19 1LE

    Should have continued on to the torture test since you were already there. Nonetheless, good stuff.
