I'd be curious to know how many people have gotten away with murders in similar fashion, considering the majority of police departments are just as woefully incompetent as this one was.
Depends how long they can afford to spoil their wives, apparently
Yes, and we do remember that the Irish Garda were dealing with ongoing IRA troubles at the time. I suspect that 'domestic' murders didn't get the manpower. Of course, that's just speculation.

I will never understand people who think murder is a better option over divorce

Death insurance baby! Keep the house the kids etc
"Colin was much more efficient at executing his homicidal plan than living with the consequences." So well said!
It's horrible to think of what he did to their spouses, and his patients!!
I know! Jeez, going to the dentist is bad enough at the best of times! I wonder what he was doing to them?
@@loulabelle5082 this is not a humorous matter ...
The lady is equally culpable. Given his later guilt, the whole thing was likely her idea. Women can be psychopaths too. Psychopathic women are extremely manipulative.

@@nagolhayze9366 oh, ok. Are you also telling Dr Grande not to be sarcastic or to have a sly joke too?
You do know the difference between making a joke to lighten the mood or finding lightness in all this dark and someone saying "oh my god it's so funny that people died and were molested. Can't stop laughing at all the evil"? Please say you know the difference?
It is amazing to me that these killers have such a lack of empathy, even for their children losing one of their parents and what a long lasting trauma that is. Their lack of love for anyone but themselves and their lover is tragic for those around them.
they are like tRUMP .. only care about themselves, screw everyone else
@@rhuephus And that geriatric case you have now is better? All of those are the same, that country is a militaristic plutocracy, that is why almost all of those presidents have the same character.

@Ozymandias Nullifidian don't be too hard on the americans; give them a few hundred years; they will be just as civilised as the rest of us.
Its like 2 people in 1. 1 is the well thought of successful dentist family man, ever so religious.
Same person decides murder is his best bet to get rid of a wife, and girlfriend's husband.
And he molests his dental patients. He lives a lie every day, and seemingly gets away with murder, for awhile.
And gives away a yit load of money to scammers, which is just not smart.
Wonderful. I’m already terrified of the dentist. Thanks for this lovely story doc!! 😂
A dentist tried to convince me to get four fillings I felt were unnecessary and I ignored his pushy advice which made him quite angry. The next time I went to a different dentist years later I was given the all clear. At least he hadn't tried to kill me.
It's still scary to know that there are dentists who will drill perfectly healthy teeth for extra $$$.
@Aaron Davis to be fair, they may well have a yacht to pay for!
That's what happens when you bite off more than you can chew (sorry)
@@aarondavis8943 that makes me so angry! I make crowns and veneers and I've witnessed some extremely dishonest dentists. I've even told patients to go to another dentist.
Haha!!
Colin and Hazel must not have ever cared about their respective children at all, to selfishly deprive them of their other parent via death instead of divorcing like "normal" people. Why even bother having children in the first place if they occupy so little space in your heart? Despicable. Thanks for covering such an interesting story Dr Grande!
I'm from Northern Ireland, I remember when the case came out. It was crazy. Thanks for covering it on here Doc. Weird to see you covering a case that hits closer to home but I appreciate it!
should visit england
@@zcharged8294 Me or the Doc? I can't specifically remember but I'm sure Dr Grande has covered cases in England at some point, no? Didn't he do one about Harold Shipman and Fred and Rose west? And Dennis Nilsson? Be interesting to see him cover the case of the scumbags who murdered that little boy Rhys Jones and then tried to cover it up and how the shooters parents covered for them. Or even the case of Crazy Titch who was a pioneer of the grime scene before it became mainstream, but is now doing life for murder. Although, those cases might be a bit too straightforward. There isn't much deep analysis you can do on those cases, because it's pretty straightforward. They were just people who thought they were gangsters. Crazy T got caught and those other scumbags ended up murdering a little boy by mistake. A case I'd be fascinated to hear about is the case of Blanche Monnier, although that was in like the 1800s so I don't think there'd be enough literature on the subject for Dr Grande to be as thorough as he likes to be. Another interesting one would be the murder of Damilola Taylor.

@@Warriorcock6969
Northern Ireland is a 6-county statelet that was created in 1921 after the British withdrew from the rest of the island of Ireland.
Northern Ireland remained part of the United Kingdom. This led to civil war and more recently a war that lasted decades.
Today the violence hasn't returned to the heights of the 80s or 90s but the potential for it has been simmering for quite some time.
Especially with Brexit (UK exiting Europe). This has caused many problems and the threat of violence has reared its head again.
The hope of Irish nationalists is that the whole of the island will one day be united again, north and south. Whereas the unionist population are determined to keep Northern Ireland part of the UK.
It's messy!
@@Warriorcock6969 Ok, I get it ☘️
Yet I am glad the terrorist activity, bombing, sectarian murder, intimidation and such dark culture mainly by republicans in Northern Ireland has almost ceased.
@@conorm2524 No potential simmering here at all. After a 100 years imo independence rather than unification is more realistic
@@nagolhayze9366 You are completely wrong and should probably Google and find out all about the troubles in the North. The UK occupied Ireland for 800 years, but gave most of it back after our rebels literally died for it. However, they kept six counties which make the completely independent state of Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the UK - not part of the Republic of Ireland. They are not part of the EU and do not use the same currency or anything.
Interesting that you place the blame on the Republicans though, so clearly you were just being smart.
Wow.....the police work in this case appears to be beyond abysmal.

Makes perfect sense to me! Why spend your last minutes on earth sitting in the car and looking at photos of your loved ones when you could curl up nice and cozy in the dark trunk and stare sightlessly at said photos?
I was thinking the exact same thing. Even before Dr Grande gave the evidence I was like "How tf did the police buy this bullshit?"
The police work was abysmal indeed but at that time Northern Ireland was still a place of horrific violence because of the troubles that I imagine they had so much on their plate during that time that this case wasn’t investigated properly and also because these were all members of this strict church and these 2 killers put on a front that they were people who were decent and God fearing, attending church etc but plenty of people didn’t believe it was a suicide because those who knew Lesley said she would never have left her 4 children, she was such a devoted mother and hazels husband Trevor was a lovely decent man who it’s highly doubtful that he would have left his children either, Trevor’s biggest problem was that he didn’t earn enough to make hazel happy, she was apparently very materialistic
I remember hearing about this terrible case..good analysis of it Dr. Grande!..congrats on ur million+ subscribers!! We’ll done!!
When I was a kid, we used to call the dentist "the murder house". Prophetic words lol. Greetings from New Zealand 👍❤️
ahh yes the old Murder house, we had a dental clinic at our school, it had a really old chair that was never used, but was scary to look at. The worst part was the small waiting room and hearing the drills. But you did to take any teeth home for the toothfairy, and the wrapped them in gauze and made them into ghosts complete with faces.
Kia ora Karen, now that's a nostalgia trip. Thank goodness the school dentist is a kinder place today.😁
I called it the room of pain ?
🤣 I’m from the US and have never heard it called that. I’m going to borrow that!
Well, that wasn't prophetic, was it, unless by coincidence your dentist also murdered someone?
If he told her about the murders one year after marriage (and two years after meeting) then she didn’t have children with him at that point. It means she decided to have children with him knowing he had previously killed and wasn’t protecting her children by keeping it secret
They could have been trying to have kids earlier on but weren't able to conceive until later. Also, perhaps she developed a motherly bond with his kids from his first marriage then it would make sense that those were the kids she was trying to protect.
Exactly. Or perhaps she had one (or even two) by then -- I am not sure when they were born. But she wasn't protecting that child by being an accomplice to murder and it was completely bizarre to choose to have sex with him again at all let alone procreate more into existence. I hope she was punished too.
@@icturner23 true she may have had a child with him immediately after meeting him. Or even had the 5 children in those two years (although triplets and twins in two years seems unlikely)
Lunatics 😖😫
Never underestimate women's attraction to men with well paying jobs , at all costs no matter how repulsive the guy , ie Harvey Weinstein
That is WILD. What a group of despicable fiends those people are. How many times do you think people do stuff like this and actually get away with it? Beyond creepy. The negligence of the police investigation is worthy of its own conspiracy theory but sadly it was likely just negligence.
Dr. Grande, your deadpan humor is comedy gold. Great work, thank you!
selfish people do selfish ugly acts
If you watch a lot of true crime, you begin to understand just how much police incompetence there is. Dr Grande deserves credit for being one of the very few in the true crime community to mock those detectives who deserve mockery.
Investigators should be held to a higher standard, and trained and paid accordingly. They should be scientists. But they're actually just beat cops on a conveyer belt to the inevitable detective position.
Competent investigators, and there are many, should feel embarrassed by these examples. Instead they stand behind their shitty compatriots, as do the police unions, right or wrong, and nothing ever changes.
I got a kick out of his comment about people basking in Dr.Howell’s “glow”.
It's amazing Dr Grande you're covering this story because it was huge in our country and having you speak about it is going to be very interesting.
People have long worried about post office workers going 'postal'... It seems we should really be worried about this pattern of Dentists going.... well, dental.
🤣😭🤣
"The Dentalist"
I think being so dreaded gets to some of the dentists. I had one who left his wife and 9 kids for an assistant. Another committed suicide one Christmas Eve. A third is meaner than snot to his assistants.
Im not proud of it, but I was dental technician for some years, and met a whole lot of dentists.
All I can say is the dentists who were the ultimate pretty boys, with beautiful wives, and kids,etc................tended to be the biggest wack jobs. Looks really count for zip doodly squat. The things these jackals would get caught doing defy description. Usually very religious.
Oh, an anti-dentite!
Everyone involved in this case appear to be extremely selfish - Collin and Hazel were ready to kill their spouses to continue their affair, and the second wife who kept his secret until Collin could no longer provide for her and their children.🤔
Really tragic case, I feel bad for all the children involved in the case.
Great review Dr. Grande, much appreciated.❤️

Yep!!
💯
Maybe after you commit enough sins you stop caring at all.
The level of deceit and betrayal some people are willing to go to is mind boggling.
Imagine on one hand being a successful Doctor of Dentistry, getting away with murder and other nefarious activity. On the other, still being stupid enough to loose all of your money to an internet scheme
what goes around, comes around. He assumed since he "got away" with multiple murders, he would be lucky finding non-existent gold in the Philly Isles. But he was to stupid to realize it was a scam
Did you know 4 out of 5 dentists disagreed with these murders? It's true. (And 1 out of 5 were taking notes/making plans.) 😬
Thanks Dr.G. Excellent analysis. ❤
I think the police’s response to the deaths is one of the most astonishing things about the case. Though sadly, I must admit, as a resident of Northern Ireland their incompetence doesn’t entirely surprise me.
Whether or not your facial expressions reflect your actual feelings, they are absolutely priceless! 💕
You are unequivocally dope!

Hey Dr G, I hope you're having a happy and healthy year so far! You have been so kind to us all by giving us these great videos every day! As always, nothing but top notch content and your well respected "not diagnosing just speculating" opinions of the subject(s). This is my 5th year of subbing to your channel, obviously I have watched many many of your videos. Sometimes more than once, even twice! Do you know of the case of David and Sandra Duyst (nee Bozeman)? This one really got to me, because of an "accident" Sandy encountered but chose to keep the truth about what occurred a secret to everyone. Sandy will end up regretting not speaking out, except for a hidden letter snuck away in a cabinet. Forgive me if you've already speculated on this one, I couldn't find it in your channel and I don't remember hearing you speak of it. It is truly a fascinating story. How far a devoted wife will go to protect her husband and the picture perfect marriage, sometimes just baffles my mind! Lastly, I have to compliment the color of your shirt in this video! HIS CONSCIENCE COMPLETED THE JOB THE POLICE COULD NOT, well that is probably one of your best quotes ever Dr Grande, truly spectacular if i may say so.
It wasn't his conscience (he had none), it was his then wife
He had no remorse , it was seeing Hazel happy with someone else what got him. He had to destroy her . Both deserve to be where thy are now .
Excellent video, Dr. Grande! It is sad, they dogged the memory of the male murder victim. What's more: The female killer who was complicit waited until the Gravy Train which was Dr. Colin Howell to run it's course, then immediately gets him to tell on himself. Due to her ignorance of the law, she failed to realize it was her end as well. I still have a positive outlook on humanity, yet it is instances like this that sadden my heart. Salud!
It wasn’t the ‘female Killer’ who encouraged him to confess, she kept her silence right to the end, it was Howell’s second wife who pressured him to confess, when things began to go down hill financially.
His accomplice in the double murder Hazel Stewart was also in a second marriage to a retired police inspector, she had no remorse, or pangs of conscience, she was in a happy place and being well cared for. What a cold, cold, heart she had.
If Howell hadn’t of confessed no one would have been illuminated about her part in the double murders.
Howell and Stewart are dark, evil, narcissistic killers, motivated by ego, sex and money, they had their weeks in court, Howell confessing, while Hazel Stewart remained in complete denial, they were given a platform to communicate, their voices were heard in an open public court with lawyers by their sides.
The two innocent victims, the other husband and wife, the faithful ones, the true believers, had their lives and voices silenced, they were unheard, and did not have a voice in any of this protracted trail.
The consequences of Howell and Stewart’s complex evil will have a lasting effect and influence on the surviving family members and the children of the victims.
What dark deep displays of evil the human heart is capable of.
Your channel keeps growing, slow and steady. Great job Dr. Grande! 👍🏼👍🏼
I remember this case well. I live in Dublin so it was big news in the Republic as well as in the North when the case was reopened. I'll probably add some more thoughts when I've finished watching. Thanks for covering this story.
Listening to the video, I thought it was odd the police didn't pick up on Leslie's body being in the boot of the car. Normally somone who took their own life by that method would be in one of the car seats. Thank you for the video. Great analysis Dr Grande, and great articulation of the narrative
-I have to go to work this morning- 😒🚫
No, I want and have to watch Dr Grande the Great❣✅
How do you put seriousness with levity and still put a humour accent to the storyline. Like it and spot on, especially on analysis! 👍
Was just wondering if there is anyone actually normal in human standards of what normal is and I know that is a broad area if not grey?
Its interesting that a double murder didn't spark his second wife into action, but losing his money was a deal breaker. Apparently news of his affair or the murder of 2 people, or even the possibility that he might spike her hot chocolate one day was NOT a concern to her. But being poor was a fate worse than death. Well, like they say, no romance without finance.
Exactly!
Boy did you nail this one. "no romance with out finance" A dentist can be a millionaire, or they can go flat broke.
I love that Trevor was described as boring. The Irish (my ancestors are from Northern Ireland) are many things, but boring isn’t one of them.
So after finding out her husband was a murderer, assaulting patients, and a cheater, him declaring bankruptcy was what pushed his 2nd wife over the edge to tell someone.
It’s unflattering to her nature. Let’s be honest, most women would do the same
As long as he brought home the dough she was ok with everything, but when he went bankrupt she lost interest.
@@truthsocialmedia no most women wouldn’t do the same just as most husbands don’t kill their wives. There’s a reason this story is being told, it’s because it’s unusual

Wow. People never cease to amaze. I can't even wrap my head around this.
Dr Grande is smart, logical and rational, rare traits these days especially in the usa. I respect his work ethic, insight, authenticity and sense of humor.
Once again rather poetic, Dr. G
Extremely clever to execute his plans with the help of his accomplice Hazel. But a fool when all is said and done. He had it made but his conscience betrayed him in the end. I’m intrigued by the stories you present Dr Grande and your analyses of these cases! Very interesting indeed. Thanks for the accounts of these diabolical individuals and keep up the great work you’re doing in sharing these stories with your subscribers.
This guy calls to mind Joan Cusack in Addams Family Values, Colin was a busy maniac.
Not a 5-factor expert, but I peg him high on openness to experience and low on everything else.
Perhaps mid-high on extroversion, which garnered him enough social capital for the cops to be inclined to blow the investigation.
I deducted points from the extraversion factor because he tended to sedate so many acquaintances.
I adore your subtle humor, and hearing what you make of things. This one was not just horrific but, when you think of a woman building an entire life with a man, then finding out he’s not the man you thought you married, and far front it. It’s not always easy.
I like that new shirt.

Another great analysis, Dr. Grande. So much devastation. How can some humans be so cowardly and despicable, it boggles my mind. I'm particularly interested in spouses who commit crimimal acts and excuse themselves selfishly for a life of secrets and lies. Would it be possible for you to analyse the case of Neil Entwistle? As of late, I've been obsessed with spouses who feel trapped in their marriage, turn to a double life full of lies and deceit until their deck of cards comes crashing down (ex.: Mark Hacking, Christopher Coleman, Gerard Baden-Clay, etc).
I think you'll find Entwisle's case particularly untriguing since many have speculated that his bizarre reactions in court are due to Aspeger's syndrome, I'd love to have your take on it. Thanks again for consistently putting out quality content.

This story sounds familiar. I think I watched either a movie or a documentary about this case years ago.
As soon as you mentioned the details of how they went about the murders, it came to my mind as I remember how strange and cruel it was. So sad for the victims. At least and at last justice was served.
Thanks doc great presentation.
Having been married to a dentist here is something people dont know. He told me "once you have done one three sided filling you have done them all." He said it was like being a plumber you earn a living BUT it is boring.
I am a patient at this dental practice. I'm so glad he's not a dentist there now. I have met one of his American wife's children who was a friend of my son's. My son was in Howell's house a few times. My son was about 18 at the time. It gives me the creeps to think he was in a murderer's house.

Would you consider doing an analysis on Taylor Schabusiness? Recently she was arrested for decapitating her lover. She just seems a little off her rocker and I’d love to hear speculation on a situation like this. 🙏
It always strikes me as odd at the lengths certain people are willing to go for “love”, they would rather plan & execute a murder/murders than just file for divorce?! I understand that some people take the til “death do us part” as a reason for staying together but clearly Colin & Hazel took the meaning literally. It”s scary to think that if not for a scorned second wife ,Colin & Hazel very may have gotten away with the “perfect murders”. I am also surprised at the relatively light sentences they both were granted. Two murders & however many victims that the dentist assaulted! Thank you Dr. Grande for yet another brilliant analysis 💯😊
Good morning, Dr Grande!🙋🌵🪴🌵🪴 Hope you're having a lovely Monday! I'm familiar with this Case. Looking forward to your take! Thank You! Hi, everyone!☺️🌺💐🌞🌝🌚
This was such a great mini series on Acorn called The Secret with James Nesbitt.
Dr G. Another superb analysis. It serves him right for being such a creep. Rule no 1 don't dob yourself in. But he was such a piece work. There is no obligation or requirement at law for a spouse to testify against their partner in Australia. But as a famous American legal philosopher wrote he got his just deserts. As it goes with some police - minimalism and jumping to conclusions unite the force worldwide.
Those poor children. In my opinion, there's no truer sign of a narcissist than somebody who thinks their son was killed in an accident to punish themselves. It's like his son didn't exist for any other reason than to either make him happy or make him sad. No life or existence of his own. It's also a good sign that you're a narcissist if you think your spouse has to die for your infidelity. Like, what? How does that even make sense? And for Pete's sake, what a shoddy police investigation. Nothing to see here folks. Just two dead people who were victims of two cases of infidelity whose cheating partners end up together after they're out of the way.
Yet another reason to believe most dentists are weird and sadistic. Just thinking about the drill gives me a toothache. Interesting case, Dr. Grande! 👍🏻
Great video and commentary
Ah, yes. Acting under “duress”. I guess his money had been threatening her to keep quiet, then once those pesky, threatening hundred dollar bills were all gone, she was free to go straight to the police like she’d always wanted 🙄
it might have been even financially beneficial for her to go to the cops straight ahead. cant fall for "i found gold in the Philippines" scam when you are in jail.
@@notyourdamnbusiness8795 But the insurance and inheritance would be taken back if it's determined to be a murder.
actually the money is GBP (British Pound Sterling £ )
@@rhuephus 😂 good lookin out
Wow. What an interesting story.
