- 2nd Gen Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI Engine Swap 94-01 we remove the 5.9l v8 magnum 360 engine and replace it with a gen lll hemi 5.7L engine from the 4th gen RAM1500 pickup truck but this will be the same engine swap if you have a 5.2l v8 magnum 318 motor in your 1994 to 2001 ram 1500 pickup truck 2wd rear wheel drive trucks to get it swapped with the old engine removed and the new engine removal and install

100% can't wait to see everything fully worked out so I can attempt this on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 4x4 crew cab shortbox. Wish your were doing the 4x4 version with the gen 3 hemi and tranny with transfer case so we could follow along but this is a great start and you got me pumped up for this build. Good Job brother

Did they say a estimate? I seen a bolt on 4th gen 5.7 run 11.9 would be wicked in a older truck

That TorqueFlight will be amazing behind that Hemi if you keep it in there. It’s a perfect drag racing transmission and they’re strong. I had one in my 75 Dodge D150 with a shift kit and the shifts were so firm. And it held gear without any convwrns of slipping.
Same thing with the transmission that came factory in the 94-01/02s, you build them a little and they’re some of the best transmissions out there.
I think that it'd be awesome to provide those mounts, for purchase! I'm sure your subscribers would appreciate it, for future upgrades.

I have my daily driver, a '98 Ram 4wd that I am planning on pulling off the road soon for a Hemi swap. I would definitely take a set of mounts. Also interested on how that 8spd fits and what mount work is needed there.

I would definitely be interested in a more detailed description of the modification done to the frame as well as these mounts! I would love to be able to swap in a hemi a tad easier than trying to match power to some degree by stroking out the 360 mag

What I love about your channel is you have all the mopars that were collectors to me the srts the RTS the ssts every vehicle that you have is either a monument for Mopar or is a to me in my eyes is a collector's item because there's not very many of them dude you have an awesome collection I love it man I dream of having what you have literally them vehicles are the same ones that I really want I talk about them all the time to my wife and my son one day one day

19:51 looks like changing the back spark plugs on the driver side would be a pain because the brake booster is in the way

My first truck when I was in 9th grade was a Dodge ram SST a 98 white with the Pepsi blue stripes I had it lowered cow ram Air hood 360 5.9 big block with headers lifters cam long to betters to the 40 series flows with 3-in tips coming out the passenger side and shoot a 3-ft flame and then I had it on American eagle five star deep dish 16 x12 and 1/2 with Cooper Cobra white wall tires with three virtual tech Hammer tens in it chameleon CD player and God was is she a beast
I was having the same problem with my 1998 Gen 2 when I put my 2004 SRT10 Viper engine the driver side was the problem for the headers.
Best of luck but custom brackets are the way to go.

I have a 96 ram 1500 v6 that I would love to do a hemi swap too. It has sentimental value so I would love to get this upgrade going. Will this same swap and these same mounts work for me as well? It’s also a 2wd I would like to also convert it to a 4wd if that’s possible.
I've been wanting to do a hemi swap in my 2000 ram sport for some time now but have been busy with other life shit and my other projects. But if it works out I most likely would scoop up a set of mounts. And I got a friend who has a few hemis laying around in wrecked trucks and cars in his towing scrap yard may be able to scoop one pretty cheap too.

The 46rh trans is controlled by 3 wire plug the center is hot the other two go to grounds thru a toggle switch arm the center fused the when you want to while driving shift in to OD THEN lock up.. bets the 727. Then you can run deeper gears. My 96 Reg cab short bet ran a best 14.4 at 95. With 5.9 on 3:90 gears

John CUT AWAY!!! i told you before , i had an SST dumped a ton of money in it nearly 100% original and i couldnt get
$5K for it.. they arent as rare as people like to think they are.. its going to be SO MUCH BETTER with a hemi in it .

I pull a work trailer with my 98' 1500 sport 4x4. It's got the 5.2l Magnum in it, which one would think would be at least ok on gas mileage, but that is not the case at all. it's in perfect condition, and so clean it looks new, with a rebuilt transmission about 30k back. The truck's got about 280k on it, with no mechanical issues so far. The fuel mileage is really burning a hole in my pocket relative to how hard I have to push the truck with a load, the torque is fine, but it's lacking HP, and it's immediately apparent when you go from just the truck, to a loaded trailer. I'd love to know what kind of mileage people are getting from the swaps to a Hemi, since I'm not a huge diesel fan, and yes I know the Cummins 6 would be great for this, but that's not for me. So, basically I wat the HEMI performance, I love a fast truck =) but I also want better mileage when towing, and it makes sense that a more powerful engine wouldn't work nearly as hard as my old 5.2 Mag, if anyone has number son how much the mileage suffers towing a trailer with a 1 ton minimum load, I'd be appreciative. My Gen 2 is with me for life, it was my Dad's until he passed in 2016, then I paid off what he owed to his girlfriend for it, and don't see any reason it won't last the rest of my life. Fuel costs, unfortunately are killing me tho, I'd rather put the money into performance parts than fuel, and I need a solution beyond dropping in a Cummins. Thanks.

One suggestion would be use all 6.4 stuff.
Intake manifold, cam, possibly heads, 6.4 exhaust manifolds.
Imo John, you are definitely NOT devaluing the sst by "restomoding" it.(NEVER thought I'd use that term for a 2nd gen lol) I'm the guy who understands and loves the ol sbm/bbm engines and know that they still have a place in the world but, you could spend every dime of the swap cash on a built 318/360 and barely get close to the stock eagle headed gen 3 hemi power numbers. Add a hci, and you will have over 400 RELIABLE rwhp. That's what purist don't get. Would I like to see you build a magnum sbd? You bet. But the modern hemi is just so much better. I think the trucks value will go UP. There is a ass for every seat at the end of the day
I have a 98 1500 single cab 2 wheel drive Ram been in a fire and throttle body etc was melted off top of motor. was only a 5.2 magnum and I have purchased a 2005 5.7 Hemi and trans out of a C300 car. I would be keen on a set of your mounts and then I can sort out the trans mount. any other info you can offer on this repower would be appreciated. I have been looking on net for while but most info is for repowering Dakotas this is the first most helpful site I have found great work.
Yes build a kit for the 2nd gen.
I'd cut the mounts off of the frame, center the motor and fab up new mounts and call it a day.

I want to hemi swap a B3500 van. Hopefully, the mounts get made. I assume it would be roughly the same chassis side mounts even though the van is a 1 ton chassis with a 5.9 magnum.

Well wiring will be definitely different between the hellcat vs the 6.4/5.7. With the 6.4 and hellcat you might need a trans controller if you keep the 8 speed. Definitely gonna be simpler to do a 5.7

Not bad, however I would have put the bevel back at the top of the mount horns to act as a sort of catch safety just in case the bolt slips up the slot.
This has inspired me my dad passed in march i gpt his old 98 ram single cab 6ft bed he bought brand new when i was 11 i plan on doing the 5.7 swap will your motor mounts work on it cause its a v6 not a v8 i appreciate any input
I know you've had issues with the 8spd transmission in the 4th Gen Rams but I'd like to see what steps you would take to overcome them and what aftermarket vendor's you would recommend for the third party computer to run the trans in a second gen.
Are you going to weld and make a road edge on the motor mount you trimmed ? Because when you cut the road edge off you took some strength out of the mount

If building it to drag race, 727 will be better than the 8. Lighter weight fewer shifts. Its mopars version of the turbo 400 and everyone uses the turbo 400
I’m buying my Granddads 98 1500 that he’s had since brand new. I remember it coming home when I was 10 now 25 yrs later it’s mine and this is exactly what I want to do. It currently has the v8 magnum motor but mannn would I would doing a Hemi swap. Anywhere to get a full breakdown on what’s needed? Is it easier to buy a parts truck and take things off of that?
