    I purchased the transmission from an authorized Jasper dealer summer of 2017 in Yorktown, VA. The original transmission was slipping in reverse after 87k miles. I paid 5800 for Jasper replacement. This transmission was an upgrade to the standard. The authorized dealer completely flushed the cooler and replaced all the transmission lines because the original lines did not connect to new transmission. The transmission seem to do fine. The transmission failed at 89k while towing a 5000 lb trailer with the Dodge 2500 diesel. The transmission blew a seal and all the fluid was pumped out unknown while traveling at highway speed. The noise was the clue that something was very wrong. Pulled into a Food Lion parking lot and then noticed my trailer was covered in transmission fluid. I contacted Jasper. I was told they would reimburse 70 / hr labor rate, which would not cover the Dodge dealer ship labor rate. I was 6 hours from home with a two-year-old Airstream covered in transmission fluid. Jasper hinted the failure was probably due to a bad cooler or plugged ATX lines. The reasoning was unacceptable considering the work was performed by authorized Jasper installer who told me they flushed the cooler and replaced all ATX lines. The original receipt had the new lines and the cooler flush annotated. Jasper could not give me a time to repair and told me the old ATX one had to be shipped back before they could honor the repairs. With my wife in tears, I elected to trade in a nice truck to purchase a new. The way Jasper handles the warranty left me sick to my stomach and out $5800 for a 6-7 month old Jasper re-manufactured transmission with less than 2000 miles. The transmission should have never leaked fluid the way it did assuming all seals were replaced with new. I suspect the replacement parts used were not of original quality, which lead to the premature failure. At a minimum Jasper should honor some type of refund. The warranty could of been handled differently. They essentially leave you hanging and provide you with no information on how long it will take or what action you need to do to restore vehicle operation. We were left stranded. After spending 5800 dollars on this very bad deal I could not in good conscious spend more money on hotel, restaurants, and higher cost for dodge to perform the work. Jasper provided no information on how long it would take to ship and receive a replacement transmission.

Don't get me wrong tho on the ram the job is super easy with plenty of space, on a jeep however, well you know you own a jeep when no matter what work you do to it you end up with bloody knuckles (and not from punching the damn thing either)

    Saw your video and read all the comments. Some of them were 5 years old and I'm sure a refurbished Jasped engine would be more expensive now. We swapped engines back in the 70ties under a shade tree with a come-along. Didn't seem so complicated way back when. I'm older and have just been paying garages to put in new engines. Got a 5.3 from Jasper installed for 6k a few years back. It came with a 30k mile warranty. My 2019 Ram has 30k. I know warranties are usually a waste but I keep them with all the technology. Really cool how you kept all your bolts in a systematic order. I've actually videotaped smaller projects to help me remember. Hate to get through an have extra bolts with no idea where they came from. Excellent video.

      8500 for a rebuild 🤣. Thats crazy money because everything in that engine is used. All engine rebuilders reuse everything they can. Block, heads, cams, lifters, rods, pistons, valves. I was told by a rep of a company they even reuse timing system components such as the tensioner and sprockets. Everything is reused. Thats why you have to give them a good core in return.
      You can rebuild the engine yourself for a few hundred dollars doing it their way. People think they're getting all new stuff and thats not the case

      Hey Mark do you have any pro tips? I'm building a 392 stroker to go in my truck. 2009 with a Procharger, it has 200k Km on it now and I think the lifters are starting to go. Going to do the swap this summer!

    • @chadrose

    • @leonw7819
      @leonw7819 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chadrose I've shopped around and been in contact with Manley and Scat. Manley looks nice but is too many Canadian pesos. The Scat kit is my pick, since I'm going to run around 12 PSI so they recommend -22 Wiseco pistons (roughly 9.3:1). My power goal of 750 hp @ the crank is near the I-beam rods 800 hp limit so I am getting the ARP 2000 7/16" upgrade (it's only $100 extra). It would be cool to make more ponies but my 545rfe won't take it, I have the best one on the market- the ATS with a Co-Pilot and Edge 2800 converter but still the trans is the limiting factor. I got all my other parts from Rock Auto, best prices for sure. I'd recommend New Hemi Engines 2003-Present: How to Rebuild by Larry Shepard. I bought an engine with a Comp 266 (a bit small still but oh well), Hellcat lifters, Arrington pushrods and TTI shorty headers already done to it and am rebuilding that one, will swap over when I am done.

While jasper did send another trans, they had to pay another $150-$200 to have it put in at the same mechanic shop. I have the jimmy now and has about 3k on the replacement trans. Probably cheaper to just replace cam/lifters. Basically the roller lifter needle bearings are going out at fairly low miles (first cases as far as I know were in 2016) and the lifter roller was eating the cam lobe. Ticking sound (not like the exhaust manifold leak they're famous for), then misfire code due to teh cam getting eaten, then she's fucked.

My engine on my 06' Dodge 1500 blew two days ago and was heartbroken, I love my truck and so does the two of my boys, and wasn't ready to get a new one. My local shop gave me some options and told me about the Jasper engine, about a $1000 less than dealer engine, might I add the availability on a factory engine would be on back order with no idea when they would be available. The cost to install and motor I believe to be reasonable along with the warranty. So anyway the video kind of put my mind at ease, I know my local shop is more than capable of the job. January 2021 my 2013 with 74000 miles, yes 74 thousand miles and the crank spun the last three sets of bearings. I watched a lot of your videos and checked multiple engine manufactures including Jasper. I elected to go with Fraser for my new engine as they have a 7 year unlimited mileage guarantee. Also if the engine blows up or anything happens to it, they will swap one time no questions asked new motor at no cost to me except labor. They will cover 50 dollars an hour labor at a professional installer. I asked if the warranty was the same if I did the swap the first time on my own and they said yes as long the problem wasn't something I did or didn't do. Just like you, I liked my truck and haven't had truck payments for 15 years. Always paid out right for whatever I got. First I got their top of the line engine which had all new parts inside and out. Got the same kit with everything I needed and what they didn't send , I got a 300 dollar credit for the parts they didn't include in the shipment. I took my time,( 2 months} to put this together so I could make sure it was right. I put everything on mine including headers before I put it in. Made installing some of the parts easier while it was on the stand. All new sensors and everything except the timing cover is new. Oil pan and all. The engine came with plugs installed, and they told me that they were cheap plugs and included a set of plugs in the credit at auto zone. my 2 sons helped with the install and anything we questioned, we got off of u tube and your site. Got it all together and went to crank for the oil pressure and got nothing. Got checking and did not install the ground strap to the motor from the battery. Did that and it cranked nice till I got about 30 lbs of oil pressure. After it started right up and ran like a kitten. The headers sound nice with the stock exhaust. I did replace all the o2 sensors also. It's been 9 months and I'll tell you this truck has more power and a whole lot better gas mileage than the old motor. Do not regret doing it at all. I'm getting 21 around town. Haven't gone on any trips to check the mileage. I have a 27 ft camper and I called Fraser to see how long I had to wait to tow it. They told me if I did the oil change and break in, 3months or 5 thousand miles it will be ok. Had done 7 thousand miles and got the camper in June. It pulls the camper like it isn't even there. I don't push the truck towing, but a couple times I had to move it and it was no problem. Anyway, thanks for the video, we used it a couple times and keep up the good work. Sorry this is so long, but just wanted to share that I did check into Jasper engines, but Fraser had many positive reviews I had to go with them. Just for your info. the engines was 5500 dollars and I got back a thousand dollars when I sent the core back. Jasper engines had all great reviews also. The warranty is what got me. Happy trucking and thanks for the great videos.

But its crazy -- the 6.4L Hemi (470 hp and lb-ft torque) in the Grand Cherokee makes over 100 hp more than the Ford V-10 . I think I should tow the motor home behind the Jeep instead? LOL! Spark plug came out of head and at first thought it just blew out but the top of the piston has some marks so I'm not sure without the head coming off if the piston hit the spark plug and pushed it out. The spark plug was damaged. I've been looking at jasper engines for a replacement since then if I can't repair this engine. 240,000 miles on the original so may be better to just get a new one. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and always having a great attitude. From south Texas.

      @AutoEdits  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howdy and thanks for watching! I had a F150 with a 2v 5.4 and the spark plugs coming out is a fairly common occurrence. It's not likely the piston touched the plug... the heads just "let go" of the plugs and require a heli-coil. I pulled my plugs and just made sure they all had anti seize on them and were not too tight.
      If you do decide to get an engine... do some research on the Jasper unit. They are such a great company that I'm proud to support them and the more you know you would too! Have a great one!

    i bought a 2006 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3, a lifter had went down and ruined the cam. called jasper ordered an engine (installed myself). 2700 miles the oil pump goes out. i call the and they gave me 2 options to pull the motor an send me a new one or change the oil pump. so i took the oil pump route. i ordered a oil pump and new gaskets for oil pan and timing cover. after all the repairs was done i sent them receipts and a sheet with my time on it. the fully reimbursed me for the parts and time i spent. all this was done with out voiding there 3yr 100,000 mile warranty. i will not buy reman motor from any other company. i appreciate their work

      Bummer you had to do the oil pump but I'm glad your happy with the end result. I really couldn't be happier with the decision to go with this Jasper replacement engine.

    Thanks for making this video. You have encouraged me to do it to. I just pulled my motor out of my 2011 Power Wagon today and will be moving over parts to my new Jasper 5.7 hemi tomorrow. I hope mine slides back in with as little fuss as yours did. It has been a ton of work so far just getting it out. Hope I get it all back together and working in the next few days. Thanks.

    These are great motors mine had 300000 miles on it with zero problems until one of the lifters failed and flattened the cam. When I took the motor apart there was almost no wear block was perfect pistons were hardly worn. One valve had a manufacturer error on the seat. After doing some research the oil pressure in this motor is very low at idle. This causes improper lubrication on the lifters. I believe me starting my truck and letting it idle for long periods of time in the winter caused the lifter failure.

      Interesting to hear this analysis. I'm still a fan of this engine design.

      Thanks! The IFS has been really good... I broke a half shaft once in Anza Borrego a few years back climbing some rocks (and that break was mostly driver error) but it makes the truck so nice to drive. I'm very happy.

    Hey Jason, that yellow bench you have there. That wouldn't be your wife's old ironing board, would it?
