SHOULD MINIMALISTS OWN TECH?

    There are many forms of minimalism. I hope to explore in this video... the many ways technology and electrical tech could be used to create more minimal spaces and homes. Albeit, whilst discussing how a world without tech and wires could be a more simple one.
    For some minimalists going back to bare basics is a part of their minimalist journey. A complete off grid world with no electric, especially electrics (electronics) attached to a societal grid system. Then also tech that some people deem to be unnecessary. What I explore here is that for a minimalist value system, learning what we value is key. If it brings value, tech or not, We would be moving away from a minimalist mindset to remove something we value.
    On a personal note, as I value film making and film watching. I'd like to think I keep my minimalist mindset by allowing my own value system to remain. So in answering the question 'Do real minimalists have tech?' I would have to say this 'REEL' minimalist does...

    I'm moving toward minimalism, and using tech to substitute for certain physical possessions (books, document storage, movies, music, calendars, notebooks, address book, etc.). However, I took the opportunity during a 6-week work sabbatical to nearly completely disconnect. I sat on a rural mountaintop all but one day per week with no internet, no TV, only 2 radio stations and spotty cell service. I focused more on my thoughts and slow living to "reset" a busy mind. I can see the positives and negatives of tech in regard to minimalism, but I suppose it's all in your intentions.

    How absurd, meaningless and arrogant to believe that anyone has the right to define what "minimalism" should look like for someone else. Minimalism is a very powerful and a very individual journey and it's none of anyone else's business. I love your channel, and your openness and authenticity!
    Please don't ever go the way of Youheum! 🤗💕

      Thank You ☺️ I won’t I enjoy making videos too much to let small minded people spoil that for me. I think this is why now I’m going through a phase of outlining my boundaries and defining what I do and don’t want to do 😊 so I can be steadfast, for the long haul 💕

    Those minimalist police 😜 There are various extremes of minimalism, everyone's journey is different. I watched a guy on TH-cam where everything he owned fitted into a 10 litre backpack, that's a nice idea but not realistic for me. I've seen other minimalists who own more than I do. If you can go without tech then fair play to you, but I don't think it's easy to do in this day and age where we rely on tech. I look forward to seeing your experiment 😁

    Aggressive marketing and status anxiety have conned us into believing that hobbies are things you buy lots of equipment for or collect in large collections.
    Someone told me I take great photos, and I said it’s been a little hobby of mine, she expected me to have a DSLR and was gobsmacked when I said I just used my phone it has a great camera.

    • @SagelifeMinimalism

      I agree. Some can have all the gear & no idea. Some have true talent and can do a lot with very little. We don’t need most of the equipment marketed to us. I know I’m stopping at what I have. I hear so many video creators talking about all the different lens’ and tripods they have. I wonder whether some stop to think if it’s appropriate or necessary for their particular content. I know I don’t want to lug around huge lens’.Or hold them up to vlog 😂 😊

    There is whole lifestyle called digital nomads, so yes, minimalists use technology and electronics all over the world.

      😂 I know - I also work online and I am aiming to travel. But you wouldn’t believe the amount of comments I get where people think being a minimalist also means going back to the basics of having no tech? 🤦‍♀️ 😊

    I'm minimalist and I have tech sooo 😅 I have an iPad I use as cloud for documents, Kindle app, Goodnotes for everything that I want to handwrite and also TH-cam, Netflix etc. I think we downsize the quantity but try to have one multifunctional product instead 😊 I don't even use my Mac anymore 😅 you can try to not use what you think to declutter and let see if you miss it ☺️ it's your choice to keep stuff or not because of work or hobbies ❤
    I remember I think in the very first ASMR video you had natural hair it fits you good! 🥰
    It's a good idea to try to do video with only 3 products!
    I didn't know at the beginning that you filmed only with your phone because I was impressed of the quality and editing 👏🏻 Have a good day, hello to Rupert & Pedro! 🐦‍⬛🐦😁

      Thank You Nadège 😊 Yes I will trial 😊 I think the audio is the biggest issue with recording on iPhone 📱 which I learnt quite quickly. I think for anyone that wanted to make videos that they only wanted to edit abit an iPhone and iPad would be the ultimate minimalist combo. iPhone to film 🎥 then iPad so it’s a little larger to edit for your eyes. 👀 but then you could also use it as kindle and with keyboard. Yet it’s smaller than a laptop to pack. It’s definitely what I would have if I didn’t need a laptop for work. 😊Oh yes More of Pedro and Rupert 🙌 ♥️

    I keep wanting to declutter my hair, portable charger, toaster, earphones and laptop.
    I keep the hair dryer but it's the English cold/being unprepared in the mornings, that lead me to keep on keeping it.
    The same with my portable charger but so many times have I been caught out with that too.
    My earphones are mostly for keeping anxiety at bay/watching or listening to something at the gym/editing my videos on public transport.
    And my laptop... but I like the typing and sometimes it's just 'easier' to do things on my laptop vs my phone.
    Toaster... because I keep failing to wait long enough to make toast on the stove.

    • @SagelifeMinimalism
      @SagelifeMinimalism  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Declutter your hair 😂 some people pull off having a bald head don’t they. When you get use to grilling your toast it really doesn’t take that much longer. I usually wash my hair early evening so it dries before bed but is then clean the next morning. Then maybe no need for hairdryer? I’m with you on the earphones 😊 🎧 mine is an absolute intolerance to noise. I however need my laptop for work. It’s funny the things that annoy us that we wish we could get rid of isn’t it. 😊

    What a stupid remark for someone to make. Today, everyone needs some tech to get anything done. I cant get out anymore so i have to order everything to be delivered. How will i get that done without my tablet or cell phone? People like to criticize without engaging their brains.

    • @SagelifeMinimalism
      @SagelifeMinimalism  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      😂 😂 I agree… I’ve come to realise there will always be super extremists who like to compare and compete. I think the remark was like a one upmanship trying to say they were more minimal. Because they did everything from scratch or by hand and barely used tech… somebody commented back to them ‘you still have a device to watch TH-cam though’ 😂

    Just about to start the video! BUT in todays life, it will almost be impossible to live without any techs. For example bank, bills, personal health data and often work and so on are all going through tech. My own bank has started refusing in person bank transfer (for all under 70). Less and less stores take cash.
    Other than that i want to say seeing your clothing short was so motivational, im picking out only ten items for this summer to see if it works for me 🥰 your videos, like minimalist mom, helps me alot in finding my way on this interesting journey!
    I also really look alot forward to see how you implement your minimal lifestyle in your life. Like hobbies, travel, more about other things than «just the things» focused videos 😇
    Edit: for fun: i have a canon for photography, an oven (want to switch to an airfryer, maybe. Can i make soups in an airfryer?), i washing machine for clothes, a shower, my current iphone, a room heater oven (idk what its called), smoothiemachine, an gaming pc, my mac for my writing and my ipad. My ipad will be replaced bc i draw on it and mine are too small and over 10 years now, almoast dead). My mac is also about 10 years, i see it working forever considering how careful its used. And chargers.. thats it. This was fun!

      Thank You ☺️ exactly… modern society as made it very difficult for us to not have technology and electronics hasn’t it. I don’t like that they force us to. I don’t like all the wires 😂 but I do appreciate the convenience and time it has freed up for us 😊

    i recently just purchased a hair straightener because i got sick of spending money on hair cuts so now im going to try and just smooth it out and see how i go with it like that instead of the constant trims etc bs trying to keep up with hair styles. i havent straightened my hair in over 12 years. feel like im going backwards to go forwards. and my budget wasnt happy with me either because i never buy ''stuff'' and things just mainly food fuel and rent. damnit!!!!!!!!! i swear i can literally feel the weight of the damned thing weighing on my conscious. hope it pays off.

      😂 😂 sometimes we pay to learn. There’s no way round it. Maybe it will work for you. I know I’ll never be able to go without my straighteners as my hair is itchy when it’s not been smoothed. However I thought I’d enjoy setting myself the challenge of not straightening it first and brief period 😂

    I watch several podcasts/vlogs regularly that are made on iphones or ipads. To be honest, I can‘t tell the difference as a viewer. Maybe because I don‘t own a TV so watch on a device, too - iphone or mini-ipad, which I also use to read using the Kindle app, for audiobooks, etc.etc.
    I also don‘t own a hairdryer, or any other electric personal care items, nor a load of kitchen gadgets (kettle, blender stick occasionally are the only ones I use).
    No idea of your age, I am nearly 60 so know what life was like before we had all these things!

    • @SagelifeMinimalism
      @SagelifeMinimalism  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The main difference is the light and audio quality with iPhone, compared to camera. With a phone camera these are fixed settings that can only be changed in post production. No I don’t know what life was like without them, which is why it intrigues me to try 😊

    I think it's good to remember that anyone who refuses to use tech *at all* would be unable to comment on or watch a TH-cam video, ever. They might not *own* the tech...but they must use it. So if anyone is ragging on you online about using tech, they're being hypocritical! 🤣😂😁
