The fact that any actor could do a good job working with a fellow actor who has personal hygiene issues is amazing to me. It would probably be impossible for me to not make that face that we all make when we can’t stand the smell of something or someone if I had to work closely with someone who reeked. These actors seemed like they had a lack of consideration for others.
They were rich, spoiled, & very catered to. To a lot of them, their entire world was all about me, Me, MEEEEEE! I doubt they gave a toss if their gross habit’s inconvenienced others. 🤷🏼♀️

Nowadays, missing a daily shower is a very rare occurrence for most of us.
In my mum's and dad house in the 1950's the water was heated on the old fashioned coal fired range, because we couldn't afford the shilling for the gas meter to use gas the boiler. Our bath was also taken in front of that range to keep warm in a large galvanised bath.
Yeah, it was very common back then for people to not take care of their hygiene as often as we do now. It started to change in the 60s and 70s as people started using water more often to take care of their hygiene and the technology in hygiene products became better too.
Sometimes bad breath can come from stomach issues. It isn’t always dental issues. I’m sure people only bathed maybe a few times a week in the 20s/30s/40s. I think that was the norm back then.
Most people only bathed once a week. Only washed hair once a week. It was the norm. Some children were bathed together. Babies. Young children were the exception. It took a lot of work and ti.e to heat water etc. Systems were not as efficient. Skin and hair were not stripped of natural oils so were much healthier.. there were exceptions of course. People didn't smell or perhaps we didn't notice e since everyone lived the same. Brushing teeth was important once or twice a day. Tooth powder , baking soda with or without salt. O fluoride. Toothpaste.
He was also a life long smoker. Marilyn Monroe's complete lack of professionalism also aggravated his condition while they were making "The Misfits" the aptly named last film for both Monroe and Gable. He killed time by doing stunts in the broiling Nevada desert until Monroe deigned to appear (she was habitually 2 or three hours late, and copped an attitude when other expressed exasperation at her tardiness). Gable was also grossed out by her constant noxious farting (a rumor persists that there is an outtake of her ruining a shot by farting). Gable died two weeks after the film was completed.
There are actors today known for bad hygiene like Jennifer Lawrence, Ben Affleck, Shia LaBeouf etc. Also Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis admit a bit of bad hygiene

It occurs to me that this could be a generational issue as these people are same era when daily bathing wasn't a thing. I lived in Europe in the 70s and bathing daily was unheard of. Once a week was the norm.
There is a medical condition where some protiens and enzymes are not processed in the body. They are present in urine and sweat. And can have a very funky odour. In some cases smelling of fish. Its not a hygeine problem. And the sufferer cant do much until diagnosed. Then testing can isolate the problem foods, and diet can make a big difference. Id also like to mention that movie soundstages are hit, very hit. And a shooting day can be many hours long in cistume. Actors cant have a quick shower to deal. Not when hair, makeup and continuity are important.
Some of these actors who complained about the hygiene of other actors, had hygiene problems of their own.

It can be a bacteria called H. Pylori, which can contribute to stomach ulcers as well as cause bad breath. Also, acid reflux can be the culprit.

There is a medical condition where some protiens and enzymes are not processed in the body. They are present in urine and sweat. And can have a very funky odour. In some cases smelling of fish. Its not a hygeine problem. And the sufferer cant do much until diagnosed. Then testing can isolate the problem foods, and diet can make a big difference. Id also like to mention that movie soundstages are hit, very hit. And a shooting day can be many hours long in cistume. Actors cant have a quick shower to deal. Not when hair, makeup and continuity are important.
Acidophilus is good for reducing feminine hygiene issues. Take tablets daily. Can purchase at any drug store or trader joes.
