I like WhatNot and will check this out as well. Thanks for the update Pete. I wish eBay would spend this much time on fixing things rather than rolling out new things. We have been waiting for years on immediate payments on auctions and best offers which is supposedly rolling out. Stop making us update items specifics several times a years which always creates a mess. Fix their damn servers so our listings and stores don't suddenly go dead because they stop showing our listings.
Sounds like a great idea, but I would like to find out what premium eBay charges for going with a live auction.... I've never been too thrilled about what eBay charges for seller fees when I used to sell a lot on there.
What I dislike the most is Ebay wanting to micro manage every tiny aspect of your account. It never ends either, every few months more new demands to conform to some new restrictive "feature".
@@DanielMartinez-nv5gb It would be fine if they took 12% of what you actually charged the buyer but they take 12% of everything the buyer pays including shipping, sales tax and other fees. So it ends up being a lot more than 12%. After everything is paid out it comes out to being closer to a 20% cut of the original price
@@GearReview23 only reason shipping had fees to prevent people from abusing ebay back in the day item would be a penny and shipping was say 100 bucks and shipping didn't have any fees.
Sorry to be a party pooper, but I've been selling for over a decade, and I just want to list my items and when people want to buy them they can find them and buy them. I have no desire to go online and be a TH-cam star or a Whatnot star or whatever. Nor do I want to have to be concerned about building a "following" on social media in order to sell. I think it's great for those of you who already have TH-cam channels or other social media attached to your eBay stores or whatever stores. But for me it's just extra work, it's a gimmick, and it's counterintuitive. As a buyer - I want to be able to go online at any time and find what I want to buy. I don't want to have to wait for someone's HSN-type time slot to find it.
I won't sell that way, but I would go sourcing that way. Things like clothes don't get a good price on these live auctions. Some collectable clothing does ok, but I can't imagine it would be any different from what is happening on WHAT NOT.
Has Pete ever done a video about how he got into the resale profession, how he got his start? I've binged so many of his vids but don't see one. Love a whole video about Pete's story!
I've been watching some of your old videos and the new ones - its apparent Pete gained weight but also you look much healthier now, pretty sure in 2016/2017 you still were a cig smoker, and when you tossed that habit it made you appear more youthful. Kudos to you sir
My son basically ditched eBay after 10 years of selling on that platform and now sells on whatnot he loves it and it’s easy shipping he has not had one problem with them.
Biggest hurdle to Ebay live is going to be Ebay themselves. They have always struggled with the technical aspects of the site. They have trouble implementing features fully (its been over 2 years since they announced payment on offers)
@@scrapsteenlifeintheforks1943 whatnot will figure out how to not that those hits soon enough. They already changed their shipping which had to of save them millions
The fact that they are notifying buyers based on what they buy is a HUGE game changer. They may be behind on the Live Auction, but have jumped 5-10 years ahead with that data. I'm looking forward to getting to use it.

Doing standard Ebay buying is good enough for me and gives me days not minutes to think about my bidding and wanting the item. You have to be good at doing live bidding which I am not - and there could people or scammers that jack up the pricing on the live bids. I will pass on this kind of concept and this maybe good for some, but not me. Anyway, I haven't done Ebay buying for several years now, just no interest or the spare money to do so.
Yeah, when ever I've been rushed into buying something - that "FOMO" Fear Of Missing Out" I've often regretted it. I hope buyers won't be able to backslide out again
In regular car auctions, the seller is permitted to make a bid (usually near a final bid ) ; so it might be legal for ebay also. Read the fine print, !
I used to attend live ebay auctions on Saturday nights like 15 years ago. It didn’t succeed. Whatnot on the other hand continues to improve each month. Im happy selling on Whatnot. eBay need to focus on what is wrong with eBay. Show my items without me having to promote them. eBay is greedy and $$$$$$$
Hey Pete, yeah that eBay live sounds good. The only info they have on me is for vinyl. So if I get an alert for that I’ll definitely check it out. I was wondering where honey was, good thing you put her and ruby at the end or you’d be hearing about that 😅
definitely keeping an eye on Ebay Live. Could be the next big thing. Ive done some Whatnot, and I like it, but like you said, Ebay could easily have an advantage.
From 8 years old to 18 I was a hardcore Michael Jordan card and NBA Card Collector. The other day I looked at a shoe box full of cards that I have Within 30 minutes I had over $3k in iimportant cards especially a rare Kobe Bryant. I think I might try and sell a few of these.
I would rather do Ebay lives then Whatnot or Poshmark, the endless topics you can run aa a selling theme for your show compared to how specific the other sites are. Plus the fees would be better I would hope.
Best thing about Whatnot is you dont have to spend hours making up listings, I can pile up hundreds of piece of jewelry, dvds or sports cards and fly through them with generic info listings. Only sell what people want and not spend hours making listings for items people dont buy. Hope they consider that.
Sounds good will see later how it turns out. Like you said they "eBay" can reach out to a lot of people on auctions with certain items people are interested. On Facebook I'm sure smaller auctions are going on but with smaller viewers.
such a good channel. no pretense, just practical and entertaining content that happens to translate seamlessly into a reality we get to vicariously live through you and your employees lives. best channel ever.
I guess I have to see it in action to be able to make up my mind about eBay Live because I live in Germany and all my customers are in the same time zone. Depending on when my stuff is aired, it might not reach my target audience, in which case I'd be paying for a service that's doing nothing for me.
Thanks Pete for the info. I have 2 eBay sites but they are not listed as eBay stores. Would I still be able to participate? Sounds like a great idea…🎉🎉🎉
The very, very last thing I would want is to keep getting messages from Ebay or whoever because they think I might be interested in something because they have been collecting data on me.
Ebay has been messed up for years. It started as a great place to bid and win items from people selling things they no longer wanted which made it exciting. Now it's only a place to buy things while having protection with PayPal and seeing the sellers feedback.
I would totally sell on the eBay live auctions and purchase on them as well. I’ve been selling on WhatNot since early June and absolutely love it. It’s fun, it moves things quickly and so forth. To be able to go take a stale listing and run it as an auction to clear it out would definitely be something i would do. My only concern is how will live auctions impact regular eBay listings? Will buyers just stay away from regular listings in hopes of an item hitting the live auctions? How about regular auctions? One of the biggest issues on WhatNot is how the platform is very saturated with buyers who want to pay Penny’s to the dollar for items. Makes me wonder if that will also be an issue on eBay, but for all we know it might not be because eBay has a significantly larger customer base. Either way, I’m excited for eBay live to come out. Poshmark has a live option as well, although i have yet to check it out.
I dont know how long these things will last. If I'm looking for a toaster on ebay I'm not waiting in a livestream for someone to auction off a toaster.
If eBay is sending out notifications to thousands of people for me to get people to my stream, then I absolutely would do live auctions. That’s the only reason why I don’t do Whatnot. A lot of us are highly successful resellers but aren’t interested in putting in the time to become TH-cam influencers. Another factor would be if eBay has it set up that if you win you automatically pay. No deadbeat bidders.
The advantage of eBay Live vers Whatnot is ebay has the traffic and you do not have to have a Social Media Following to get the traffic. eBay brings the customers Whatnot banks on you to bring the buyers. That opens the field up for everyone if they want to participate, and you don't have to keep listing to keep your followers coming back. I am with Mike C, eBay needs to fix bugs. They keep relying on saying it's old programming, which is why it takes so long to fix these issues. Amazon is older than eBay and they keep bringing in top-notch programmers and upgrading and repairing their system. Instead of worrying about making a profit, make this platform the best in the market and the money will follow.

Its crazy I don't know how they really make any money when they sell item(s) for a dollar or a few dollars as of course "what not" takes fees and the sellers have to provide shipping envelopes boxes bags shipping material baggies etc, so how is one going to make a profit from a dollar or a few dollars??? For many sellers in the jewelry category I swear they practically give their costume jewelry away. Anyways there is lull not enough buyers at what not for many sellers not in just the jewelry category but in many of their other categories as well, so things are slow for many sellers at this time. It would just be nice if Ebay was more responsive to its customers. There is no way to get your concerns dealt with anymore on Ebay.

Do you still have to go through PayPal to buy items in eBay?
No. You can if you wish, but even if a seller says they only use paypal ignore it. Ebay will take credit and sort the seller.

Ebay has some strange documents for refurbish, resellers.
If they sold items according to genre, say Disney, I could see the interest would be huge among collectors.
