    I was lucky enough to pick one up yesterday a little under MSRP. This is my first foray into the 1911 world and it hasn’t disappointed so far. Left the store and stopped at the range where I fired 150 rounds through it. It is incredibly balanced and smooth shooting. I can shoot this gun as fast as I want without giving up much in accuracy. I’m very impressed with how soft and flat it shoots.

    Another great review. There are seriously few things more fun than shooting a 9mm steel Limited gun. The only issue as a competition gun is that in USPSA it currently only can compete with the dot in Open or without the dot in Limited. Both of these have major/minor scoring and this gun in minor will be fun, but a challenge if you care how you finish. I do think it will fit well in IDPA though.

  • @lucashuff1153
    @lucashuff1153 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Huge fan of the channel. I bought my Springfield Prodigy 4.25” just a few weeks ago and have right around 400 rounds through it. Where do I start, the optic it came with wouldn’t hold zero sent it back to Springfield and have never heard back from them. I bought this gun with my own money $1500 and I love the design, but I’ve had way way to many problems. Be glad you got one directly from Springfield Armory cause I’m a 100% sure they’ve tuned it up for you. In the video you said no failure to feed and no problems, that’s great. Mine has jammed so so many times I’ve lost count. Failure to feed, the slide going back into battery super slow, so I cleaned it up and oiled it good it had this jet black oil in it like motor oil that came out of it. So cleaned it up lube it up with the Lucas Extreme Gun Oil which is what I used on all my firearms, bought the RMR plate from Springfield and put a Holosun 507C X2 now I’m into the gun right at $2000 took it back out on the range jam after jam, failed to extract, the slide was super slow between shooting rounds. I’m disappointed cause I’m a Springfield Armory 1911 fan, and I love the design of my Prodigy, but I wouldn’t trust it with my life. I have a Sig Sauer X Five Legion got right at 500 rounds through it it ate everything I put through it without the first failure. I bought the Prodigy to replace the X Five Legion cause it’s a huge gun, big bulky grip. I have to say I’m disappointed in
    my Prodigy’s performance so far. So I cleaned it again and have yet to shoot it anymore, because they say the break in period of a 1911 is 500 rounds so I’m 100 rounds away from being broke in. But for the money this Prodigy should’ve preformed like the $900 Sig X Five Legion flawlessly, but it didn’t.

    I just bought one today. I have the Staccato P Duo as well. The fit on the Prodigy is impressive. Everything is super tight. No wobble in the frame AT ALL. Barrel lock up is also fantastic. Handling the two side by side it is really hard to tell the difference. Going to the range tomorrow,..will see how well it shoots compared to the Staccato.

    • @stevenjeffrey4637

      @@HaleFire7 Alright. Went to the range today, I had to zero the Hex Dragonfly and I use a "rest" to shoot off of around 13 yards. Once zeroed I shot a couple groups off of the rest at that distance and had groups of five holes all touching. Shot without the rest and had very nice, small groups, at least as good as the 2011 (Staccato). As far as shootability, I could hardly tell the difference between the Prodigy and the 2011. Shot close to 100 rounds and not one malfunction of any kind, I have never had any with the 2011 either. I cleaned it and oiled it last night,...I oiled it kinda heavy and the only complaint I had was that the oil was shooting up out of the "round in chamber indicator" onto the red dot lens, so I won't be oiling it "wet" again, lol. It feels great in the hand, and it does not "need" a magwell, but I do like the feel of the magwell on the 2011. I think if a magwell becomes available I will put one on it. I don't care for the two piece guide rod, and I am considering buying a "toolless guide rod" on the Staccato website to add to the Prodigy, it's about $100, but I can live with that. The 2011 came with a VERY nice range type soft case, the "case" the Prodigy came with is too small to use with the red dot on it, especially with the extended mag (not really a big deal). So, to summarize, I honestly think that the 2011 was not worth the money I spent on it, ESPECIALLY after shooting the Prodigy. I wouldn't sell the 2011 though, I enjoy having it, but had I known then what I know now, I would have gotten the Prodigy in the 5 inch AND the 4.25 instead of buying the Staccato. Maybe the Staccato will wear better and last longer, I like that it has the DLC finish, I think that finish is more durable than the Prodigy, but time will tell. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. And as an aside,..my favorite 2011 style that I have currently is the Bul Armory SAS II Ultralight.

    Thanks for the review! I always enjoy yours.
    I am fortunate to have Several Nighthawks, two staccatos, a Wilson and an Atlas Athena.
    This is a Staccato P clone. Same is the way that the hellcat was the derivative of the p365. As an entry-level gun in this category it’s hard to beat the price. Having looked at multiple reviews of this, there are reliability issues that probably will be worked out over time. A 1911 trigger is better than almost anything else there is but as 1911 triggers go, its okay. The edges of some of the parts don’t look so smooth and the grip module looks kind of cheap. It would be great to have a magwell. The takedown is mildly annoying but probably less so than finding a paper clip like i do on my Nighthawks and my Athena.
    I personally would re stipple the grip to a more aggressive texture, smooth the edges and immediately get a trigger job to get it down in pull and reset. Mine are tuned into the around 2 lb range with the Atlas at 1 1/4 pounds from the factory. This is not for newer 1911 shooters. Then it would compete with the higher end guns on performance at a much lower price point. I am very experienced with 1911/2011 triggers so I like them this light but for new 1911 people 3 to 3 1/2 would be great.
    I will admit that i am comparing to high and very high end custom 1911/2011s. Probably not fair. On its own, It looks like a great entry level 2011. Wise consumers will upgrade a few thing and stop there. It only gets significantly more expensive. You have been warned. 😀

    I bought one a month ago. It failed miserably out of the box, but this was due to break in. It takes almost 400-500 rounds before it ran 100%. A few things that happened with mine. Rear sight screw came loose, followed by the screws holding the optic plate cover, which the rear sight is mounted on. The fiver optic rod flew out in the first two hundred rounds. So, lock rite and order some spare optic rods .060 and you’ll be fine after break in. I also noticed the two piece guide rod loosens up as you shoot, so check it periodically. None of this happened on any other platform I own. It’s a legacy platform so I get it.
