As i can see the 1911 pistol will be manufactured forever, this gun never gets obsolete, and i can see that many military and police forces still use it, this gun will always be in the heart of gun lovers.
Always had heard 3" 1911s jam and are unreliable. Wife bought me a Kimber ultra raptor in .45 last year on my bday and i have thousands of rounds through it (i work at a public gun range) . gotta say, its been 100% reliable for me. Im sold on the 3"
Yes, before barrel feed ramps became more prevalent rather than just frame ramps, short slides had some trouble with hollow points. Much of that, though, was mitigated with proper timing on the recoil spring.
My duty pistol for years, TLE II. Very accurate and reliable and comfortable with camel bone grips. I alway used Wilson Combat 8 and 10 round magazines.
I just picked up a pro tle 2 Wednesday. Man, i really like it. I had my eye on it for quite some time at my lgs. It got sold, or so i thought. Went in the other day it was back on the shelf. Found out someone put it on layaway but couldn't pay for it. Soooooo, when i saw it back on the shelf, i decided not to procrastinate anymore. Hopefully, it's a good one. Haven't cleaned it. I oiled it and shot it. So far, 200 rounds and zero problems.
I used to have an Kimber Ultra Carry about 20 years ago. Unfortunately, it was stolen from the trunk of a vehicle. Learned my lesson there. Keep your weapon on you and screw the rules.
I have the BUL UNDERCOVER IN 45 ACP. I agree with Don , Kimber has worked hard to get back on top of the QC and putting out some really nice firearms and I've been watching reviews for awhile and they have been very positive but can require some break in time as Kimber builds a tight pistol. I personally have had 0 issues.
Really love all your reviews. Definitely my favorite "gun youtuber". Love that you go over all the details and show everything up close. There's been times where I had a question that I couldn't find an answer to, and found it by watching your video.
Heck yeah! Thanks for helping to get my week started, man! I always look forward to your reviews, and once again, you did not disappoint! Thank you, again, for all your time and work!!!
Another great review. I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II but not the TLE so it’s heavier than this model but I love how it shoots and because it’s heavier the recoil is very manageable especially after practicing with it. I own other 1911s including an Sig 1911 XO 5” and a Dan Wesson Specialist 5” and the Kimber hangs right in with the others so I have absolutely no complaints about my Kimber. It’s in my carry rotation and it’s actually the only 1911 that I routinely carry and I shoot it well and I actually have large hands.
I have got an Ultra Carry II from Kimber and super happy with this gun. It is a 45 ACP and with a 3" barrel shoots super precise, much better than my son's 6" 1911 from less known manufacturer. Happy with my choice!
It was hard to see Kimber go through their issues yet still charge a premium for their guns. My local gun shop recently cut way back on stocking Kimbers because their customer service is a major issue.
They charge a diamond price for zirconium a pistol. Like buying a pair of nike's over something else, puffed up branding with less to offer for only twice the price.
The only jambs my 1998 kimber had was when my dad shot it. He was old and weak, and only ever shot revolvers. He shot it with bent elbows so basically limp wristing , He was the only person to have issues, I cleared his jambs , and emptied magazines with no problems with the correct hold.
Oh thats a beauty! 45 is my fave...They can't stay on the shelves here in NJ, there's a 1 year wait..people are saying there's a surplus in other states? Wow. These type of guns, the colt defender , the s and w , just sell out years in advance...love it..
Pretty much any state that has a magazine capacity limitation of 10 or fewer will have a higher percentage of 1911s being sold. During the Clinton AWB in the 90s-00s, the 1911 had a massive resurgence, and a number of companies got into the demand.
I was lucky enough to find a barely used ultra raptor II in my LGS for 650.00 a few months ago.My best and favorite gun i own, besides my K6s i also found barely used recently! Blessed to own 2 awesome and flawless Kimbers!
I don't agree with you because I walk in gun shops and still see 1911's because most people especially women don't want a gun that large and heavy besides spending over 500.00
I use Wilson Combat mags in mine. I believe they are better made than the Kimber mags. IMO. A fine 1911, I carried one not so long ago when working at the Sheriff's Office a few years ago before I retired in 2020. Love this 1911, no jams, smooth operation, snappy, but nice.
I loved this video. I wonder how durable it will be after time. It seems like the only way to mitigate accuracy issues dealing with the 45 ACP with a piece so small is to get enough training behind it.
Mine was rough around the chamber and the feed ramp was catching the lip of the brass. Very light dremmel work in those areas and it was flawless. You need to go inspect the mechanical edges with the pad of your finger and find any sharp or bured areas. That'll usually do the job. I know people expect perfection from the box. But it works flawless if you just inspect it.
First 1911 I bought was the Officer's model. I learned how to shoot it from an old Army veteran/retired police officer. He had seen war and the mean street of Birmingham. Y'all stay safe!!
12.24-12.35: my Ultra TLE II shoots slightly left too. Anyway one of the best carry options ever. I often carry with after market 6 rds magazines and it works well having enough firepower too.
I have an Ultra Raptor II that has been flawless.BUT, i bought 2 of the best Wilson 7 rd mags and they are the only ones that dont feed right. Are the cheaper wilson mags better for this. All my Kimber and McCormack cheaper "looking" mags work perfectly.dO YOUR WILSON MAGS HAVE A PLASIC OR METAL FOLLOWER?
The take down on it is the same as my 3.5 inch Rock Island 1911 but they did not include the tool for the guide rod so I had yo make one with a paper clip
Thank you greatly @Sootch00 for the review. I've been looking for a really nice affordable quality compact 1911 in .45 Definitely have to add this to my cc rotation
@sootch00 absolutely! Hand cannon indeed. I carry my commander 1911 in .45 and it's substantially heavier, but it feels really good for me, and I'm beyond confident and comfortable with it. It'll be a thrill to get this and see how it shoots with the weight difference
I can only relate my experience. I have the ProCarry II, I've run several thousand rounds through it, over five thousand, maybe under ten thousand. It is far and away the most accurate pistol I own. Reliability is stellar. With the Ultra you can not limp wrist it. That pretty much goes with any 3" barreled .45 ACP. You'll get ejection jambs (stovepipe). My 4" is not prone to that issue but you're not shooting a 9mm, recoil is more, very manageable. I've several 9's, the Kimber is the best shooter of all. I started having some FTF problems, my recoil spring was long overdue for a replacement, bought Kimber's replacement kit, problem solved. Kit was around $15.00 for the 3 spring kit. Kimber recommends the replacement at just under a thousand rounds, I went several thousand beyond that. Their CS was great.
Good gawd, what a little beautie!! Ive gotta get one of these one day soon!! Theyre absolutely gorgeous!! Anybody have any horror stories on this specific maker, platform and size of 1911?
I know Kimber had a reputation you hit or miss. That I really like and green G10 nice touch .This is everything I need nothing I don't want . I believe if a company really addressed issues I'm willing to give them a chance . They just checked my boxes . 45ACP is King 1911 all business that's my calling
I’m still using my Kimber Pro Raptor ll in 45 reliably and go buy 3 or 4 Wilson Combat 47 D magazines! Top shelf for sure in the mid range prices for me. Then fell in Love this last year with Kimber’s K6s revolver in 357 magnum being a 1911 fan had to give it a try! Shoots great using 38 spl. , 38 spl+P, & 357 magnum with night sights and a beautiful sexy build! I don’t care who you are you gotta give props to this snub ❤ of mine! ANY Kimber is $1000 bill+! You get what you pay for and I thought these were two Great guns made in America for a working man’s price! #Kimber❤#ProRaptorll#45acp#K6s(revolver)#357magnum
My buddy has one of (looks like it) these. See how sharp the trigger is? It cuts his fingers when shooting. Of course, I told him to have it machined off.
They use questionable MIM internal parts like the swinging links that may/may not be hardened. I saw 2 lock up open within 30 minutes of each other due to swinging links stretching with factory ammo. Sold my Kimber the next week and won't own one again.
Already have what I believe is the smallest decent 45 acp available. Miss the single action trigger, but it costs half as much, weighs a heck of a lot less, and has a red dot on it. Also, having to have some kind of tool on hand for field stripping is a huge detriment to any pistol. Edit- Ok, a third as much cost. $1100? Go pound sand.
Sootch you will find the smaller package to be your main practice gun it a bit more hard to handle, but the practice crosses over to all lengths of 1911.
looking to get my first REAL 1911, and Kimber is one of the best out there... However, I want ambi-safety... Is it possible to make/add ambi for this particular pistol? Anyone?
Great pistol. I'm with, HRFUNK on these manufacturers only giving their customers ( one ) magazines. Especially for a pistol that coat over a grand. ( three magazines ). Let's go! Gun manufacturers. Get your head out your rear ends give us ( three manufacturers) with our firearms
As i can see the 1911 pistol will be manufactured forever, this gun never gets obsolete, and i can see that many military and police forces still use it, this gun will always be in the heart of gun lovers.
