Both the original LCP and Bodyguard left much to be desired. The Max and 2.0 are great improvements, and both good choices for a front pocket carry. Glad we have some good options.
I had the original, and never had any problems with it, shoots great. It’s dependable reliable, and fun to shoot. You have to get used to the trigger, but it’s accurate. I like the double stack magazines, more rounds.
I work at a sports and outdoor shop and I will go ahead and tell you smith really did something with the new body guard. Im going to be getting my own very soon. And I believe anyone that puts their hands on one will be considering replacing their current micros
@@berniemadoff7837 I would say it depends on how big you are and what kind of pants you're wearing. I wear cargo shorts a lot in the summer and I'd say I'm average to athletic build pretty average height, and it'd work just fine in a pocket holster in my cargo pocket. That being said I choose to carry it IWB at 3 o'clock. Very comfortable with the Desantis gunhide pro stealth holster with an extra mag pouch.
He down played the price. You can find the LCP Max for $259. The Bodyguard 2.0 is $399. That's a big difference. Especially if you have to buy a night sight on the Bodyguard 2.0.
Same thing CO did with Magpul. Back in 2012 with the 15 rd mag restrictions. Days before the law went into effect, Magpul dropped thousands and thousands of free PMags in crates from helicopters at parks in CO as an eff you. Then they moved shop to the more free state of Wyoming. CO loses $80 million per year in tax revenue for being woke.
You've officially sold me on the Smith. I already have the Ruger LCP MAX 75th anniversary editionand I carry it more than anything else. But after seeing that extended grip and lower bore axis.... I must have one. 10/10 video once again. Thank you!
I actually got a chance to see one in person,I was amazed how small the new Smith & Wesson Bodyguard is.I asked my local gun store if they had the new Smith & Wesson Comp,or Shield Plus Comp, and they didn’t,but got the new Bodyguard in.I think it is pretty awesome with how small it is.I like you can just throw it in your pocket, and it is awesome EDC gun.The one I seen at the store was sold, and it was immediately sold when they got it in.I feel Smith & Wesson has knocked it out the park with all there new guns that just came out.
I see the Ruger on sale quite often in my area and online for 250 to 299 I really like the Smith but gonna wait until the new wears off and catch a sale lol
@@heathmichael142 There have been a lot of posting on Gundeals group on Reddit for the 75th Anniversary Edition of the LCP Max. I bought my LCP Max way back in December 2021. I may buy the Bodyguard next year for summer carry if it has less muzzle snap.
The bodyguard is better but the max is gonna be a lot cheaper. I don't think it's that much worse for the price difference you can find it at online. If you paid full retail price though yeah you got screwed.
Oh wow - this is great. Thanks for posting! My wife carries the original Bodyguard and I carry the original LCP. Awfully tempting to upgrade!! Glad to see that the new version of the LCP locks open when it's empty.
I've always said that they would make a ruger lcp max with a 3.5 barrel instead of the 2.8 barrel and call it ruger lcp max+, it would still be highly concealable and a lot less snappy

Might be a grip issue. Hands should be fatigued even after just 200 rounds. I don't find the little guns to be Snappy. Almost 200lb grip strength though.
It's not that I have a grip issue as my hands aren't that big and fits the lcp max nicely, but a longer barrel just equals better accuracy and higher velocity. My daily carry is a sig p365 9mm though I didn't mind the snappiness of the 3.1 barrel I ended up changing the slide for a p365 XL one with a 3.7 barrel and has made me overall more accurate with it and very pleasant at the range!
@@roverjohnyes it does. I have this gun and his sight looks identical to mine. He just hasn’t looked at it in the dark or really low light. I didn’t even know mine had it until I went to put the gun away in a pretty dark bedroom while trying not to wake my wife.
Just tried to watch this and YT took me to a page on explicit content. I lit them up in the "Was this helpful" comment section. We got your back, Sootch!
Just got an email advertisement for the Bodyguard 2.0 and immediately searched for your review. Impressed that you had a side by side which was gonna be my next search. Very well done and as a LCP Max owner you sold me on the Smith. I only went with the Ruger originally due to how bad the Smith Bodyguard 1.0 was but they fixed everything and more!!
First off, thanks for this side by side comparison! We all wanted to see it! The MAX has been my daily carry for 3 years now. I have over 1500 rounds through it and trust it implicitly. 2 to 3 times a month, since the beginning of this year, I do pocket draw, double & triple tap drills at 10-15 feet with great success. Some time ago, I got rid of the Ruger holster and replaced it with a Galco pocket holster model PRO836B major improvement! I am intrigued by this new Smith, and I must say, I am NOT a Smith fanboy, but I am way curious about this pistol. I cant wait to get one in my hands here locally and see for myself! Is it a bad thing to want to own both???? Living my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona
@@thomasprim8274 yes, it is a bit snappy but manageable. If your OK with 380, I would look at the Ruger Security 380. While it's not pocket sized, it's recoil is akin to a 22 Mag pistol. 15 round capacity, and reasonable weight. I have both and recommend both!
@@thomasprim8274 If you have never shot a Glock 42, I HIGHLY recommend it. Words do not exist to explain how soft it shoots! It is EXTREMELY soft shooting. So much so that it's the gun I used to teach my five foot tall wife to shoot with. Micro guns are known for having snappy recoil; the G42 doesn't just have the lightest recoil of any micro I've shot, it beats out most full size .380's as well. It's really an amazing gun. I just wish it had larger capacity.
Thanks, Sootch. I saw your vid on the Bodyguard 2.0 on Tuesday. So impressed with the presentation, I went to my local gun shop that afternoon, and to my surprise, they had one in the case and had gotten 5-6 of them that day. As soon as I saw it and gripped it, I told my favorite salesperson: "Sold". Looking to finally replace my Glock 42, I traded it and paid less than the $399 price. It pairs perfectly with my Shield Plus; two great guns. Every other review I've seen, this gun is impressing everyone.
Is it as soft shooting as the G42? I've had my G42 since shortly after it was launched, and have always been so amazed at how soft it shoots. Even my tiny wife can handle the G42 without issue. In fact, it's the gun she learned to shoot with.
@@floorpizza8074 That is my question too. I love my G42. It is the easiest to shoot 380 out there. Very little recoil and very accurate (for me). It just needed more capacity. I need to go to a range to shoot the bodyguard 2.0 and compare. But I like it as an alternative to the LCP Max
@@tourproto I was hoping to be able to answer this question by now, but I'm unable to find it in stock anywhere. I'm on the "notify me" lists for all four local GS's. I finally got an "in stock" email from one of them yesterday, and in the two hours it took from the time the email was sent til the time I read it, they sold out.
@@tourproto I finally got my hands on a BG 2.0 last Friday. Took it and my G42 to the range on Saturday. My wife and I agree that the G42 is still the low recoil champ, but not by much. The BG 2.0 is very soft shooting for a micro pistol, and the G42 just *barely* edges it out. We both love it. Now she wants one. Mine has the typical BG 2.0 issue of shooting left. I haven't measured or drifted the sight yet, but it'll definitely get done before our next outing.
Great job on the comparison! I'm a long time shooter and have seen a vast number of your reviews, over the years. This one is one of your best, in that you have done a truly excellent job of covering the advantages and disadvantages of each pistol. You always do, but this video seems even better than normal. They both appear to be great choices. Thanks!
I think many have bought it since the 75th Anniversary Edition came out at such competitive sale prices. I bought my LCP Max back in December of 2021 so will have gotten 3 summers of pocket carry with it before I may buy the Bodyguard next year for summer carry.
I was the opposite... I held off on springing for a used P238 I saw recently, and then this got announced and I've been looking at it all week lol. Definitely on my radar.
I have an LCP Max. It’s a great little pistol, but it is a 2 1/2 finger grip. I have the occasional limp wrist failure to cycle shooting one hand weak hand, simply because it’s so hard to get a solid grip. I can tell just by looking the Smith is going to offer a better grip. I won’t carry a pistol without an extra mag, so I just bought a 12-rounder when I got the Ruger. It gives you a full 3 finger grip. I use an Alabama kydex pocket holster for deep concealment. It’s a great holster. Thanks for another great review! 😃😃😃
How much room is it with the 12 rounder? I went to look at it today and my pinky is not touching. I love how small it is but with my big hands I don't know if I should get this or keep looking for a better option. I need about 2.75 inches for my 3 fingers. I tried to look for grip extensions and I cannot seem to find anything. Any assistance would be appreciated.
I’ve carried a max for over 2 years and it’s perfect in cargo pants or shorts but a little hard to get out of wrangler cowboy cut jeans pocket. I would love to get the bodyguard 2.0 but I can’t go any bigger and I know my limitations with these pocket rockets.
I’m 5’5 & these 2 guns are the ones I was looking at specifically because of my size. It’s hard to conceal. Thank you for the video! This helped so much!
I have the LCP MAX and love it. Will also get the 2.0 when all the hoopla dies down 🤣 I'm a 380 fan and this would be a great addition to my little arsenal 😉👍
OK.. I found one yesterday and traded in my Spectrum which I didn't really like much. Got the no safety model which is similar to my LCP MAX, so no problem. Gonna shoot it soon. Great review 🎉🙌
I just bought the ruger.380 max a couple of weeks ago, didn't know S&W was coming out with this, oh well. But I'm still pleased with it, an bought 2- 12 rd mags to go with it. But I typically pocket carry here in Fl, so no biggy. I feel confident in it, with the right ammo after doing a months worth of homework before I bought it. Now looking for a dedicated mag holster, preferably a belt side mounted holster for the 12 rd mags, that will contain it. Thx for the vid Sootch
Bought the lcp max a couple of months ago, and it is slightly larger than the original LCP, and this is slightly larger than the max in slide length - all of those “slightly larger”s add up. The max prints in most pockets of mine, it does not just slip into a pocket holster and disappear. I think the extra length of the bodyguard will probably be enough to expose the back of the slide in most pockets. At that point I’d rather just carry appendix with 9/357/45, something larger.
Not so. I pocket carry mine and it's deep enough that it doesn't show at all. Also, the more rounded contours of my S&W 2.0 make it harder to see in my jeans front pocket than the blocky Ruger. I have both, and my Ruger is going to be traded in soon.
I carry a Sig P365 9mm in my front pocket and I don't care if it prints. If anyone asks what's in my pocket (or if they think they 'know'), it's none of their business. I have no reason to tell anyone anything. I do want to get this BG though for options.
I've carried the Ruger II for a few years now, and really like it, but was considering buying the Ruger Max. Now I'll have to take a look at the S&W Bodyguard that is basically the same (except for the caliber) as my S&W 9 Shield plus which I carry all the time. Very nice review. Thank you
I bought the LCP Max just before I discovered the BG 2.0. I don't like how the Max shoots, bought the 2.0 and I'll have it Tuesday. The Max is gonna get sold, as is my BG 1.0.
The pocket carry 9/380 battle is so hot right now. So much advancement and progress. We still have plenty discussion over rifle vs. shotgun and revolver vs. semi-auto, etc., but THIS is the market where we're really seeing innovation and interest.
Bought the Ruger Security 380..hammer fired with a thumb safety, U notch and a fiber optic front.., and if you live in the right state..(which we don't) ...15 round magazine...
Its a very good choice but not really in the same catagory as thats almost an inch thick with a longer barrel. This is for deep concealment, that is for edc
I like both. But I think I prefer the S&W without holding either one yet. Mainly because of the option of having a thumb safety and the build quality is superior IMO. The thumb safety gives you the ability to have it and not need it versus the need it and not have it option.
@@skoolynugenator1802 You’re right. You probably have unprotected sex with prostitutes hoping that you don’t contract a disease or get a subpoena for child support. That extra safety feature should always be available.
I just traded my lemon LCP MAX for a shield plus. My LCP was a bad one . Keyholing and shooting extremely low. Inaccurate and poorly machined. I’m definitely looking into the bodyguard 2.0
@@Gl0ckb1te yes. But the best excellent service. They are in NC so it began with the barrel replacement and testing, but the trigger assembly was junk. Rack it and nothing afterwards. It was disappointing. The replacement is fine. Maybe QC an issue? Don't know.
I've had the Max for a couple of years, and carry it regularly on walks, while working outside, etc. Can't say I like it, and don't like shooting it, but it serves its purpose. Got the 2.0, and it is a world away from the Max. It's just a better firearm. But, it's a bit longer and a bit taller. So I don't think it makes the Max obsolete for how I use it. That said, if I am going to carry a back-up, it is going to be the 2.0. Feels better, shoots better and it is still very much concealable. You don't dislike your first child just because the second child is better looking and smarter. There is room in your life for both.
Great review as always. The Smith looks great and the mag fit looks precision. I bought the LCP Max anniversary edition for $279. with the stainless steel slide. The mag fit is kinda sloppy. If you hold pressure on the empty mag it will lock the slide back otherwise not. If you purchase a mag twin pack at the Magshack, the price comes down to about $23 dollars each when on sale. Not bad. It's nice to see S&W step up the gen 2 Bodyguard. Thank you for your honest and very thorough review.
Ruger will replace defective mags. I got some from Lanboy's Armory that have the feed lips spread too far about. They gave me a full refund and said Ruger did not want them back. So then I decided to try to pull the lips in tighter. It took about 30 tries to get them in far enough but they work now. Call Ruger to report the problem and ask for a new mag. I dropped a mag on asphalt. It fell about and I lost one part. I called Ruger and said I lost a part due to my own fault thinking they would sell me that part. They sent a new mag. I later figured out how to find the part on their website. I may order it someday if I order any other parts.
I own the trilogy of LCP pistols. The LCP, LCP II and LCP Max are all TOYS compared to the Bodyguard 2.0. The only problem is, it will make you go broke, because you will love shooting the expensive .380 ammo, since it doesn't feel like a rat trap snapping when you fire it.
@@travispowell2471 I have heard some concern about that, but the beaver tail is substantial and I never felt like I was being grazed by the slide or anything. Admittedly I have only shot 50rnds so far.
@@tylertripp4939 I tried the original LCP and hated it. It genuinely hurt my hands to shoot. I've "heard" that the original Bodyguard was very similar in that the snappiness would punch the web between the forefinger and the thumb. That alone stopped me from buying a Bodyguard. In your opinion, is the Bodyguard 2.0 much more comfortable to shoot? For reference, I daily carry a Sig P365. I can shoot it all day long and it does not hurt my hand. It's just something about narrow frames for me I guess.
There are even more reasons it's better : ... Serrations, .. Grip, .. beaver tail, .. texturing, .. sights, .. overall fit in the hand. And seems more solid and higher quality of design.
I have the Ruger LCP Max and the reason I bought it is due to it's rounded back. These guns are made to hide in the pocket when going out for something quick or for hot summers. The LCP Max has the ability to take it out of any pockets without any snags due to the rounded back. As soon as I saw the Bodyguard, I knew that I was going to have trouble taking it out of my pockets. Therefore, I suggest the LCP Max.
Great comparison Sootch! I own and carry the LCP Max but I would have to say the S&W gets the win in this case. One thing that you didn’t mention is the issue with the LCP not reliably locking the slide back on an empty magazine, perhaps this has been resolved with the newer guns but it is one thing that really bothers me about my LCP. Again, great video, really enjoyed it.
I rented the LCP Max, and it was the most painful pistol I've shot. It hurt my trigger finger and the web of my hand. I had a sore on my trigger finger that lasted about a week. I didn't want to finish the box of ammo I got with the rental. Hoping the Bodyguard 2.0 will be less painful to shoot.
@@adamsaylor7427 I carry a Canik MC9, but I'm interested in a pocket pistol for occasions where I don't want to conceal the MC9. A gun that chews your hand up is not something I want to carry.
S&W are just killing it. I've put at least a thousand rounds through 10 different pistols from 6 different brands and the Smiths are the only two that NEVER gave me ANY issues. Not a single FTE or FTF, no mag catches, no trigger hangups. Nothing. No matter what kind of ammo I used.
I have the LCP Max 75th anniversary and it is my main EDC. With that said. The S&W looks very intriguing and better built than the Ruger. I’m definitely a fan of the takedown operation of the S&W vs the Ruger. I paid $269 for my LCP Max from PSA.
I have owned every generation of the LCP the difference between the original LCP and the Max is night and day when it comes to shooting. I now own the Bodyguard 2.0 and it flat out outperforms the LCP Max hands down. The only thing that I like the LCP better in is the recoil spring on the Bodyguard is considerably more difficult to reinstall back onto the slide. Great video sir.
Ruger lcp gen 1 has poor trigger. LCP pro has improved trigger and taller more usable sights. LCP2 has wider grip and better sights than gen 1 but not as tall as pro. Ruger LCP Max has twice the capacity and only .25 in taller and replaceable sights with tridium factory front, also locks back on last round. By far the best pocket option. However, LCP has been less reliable with each version and will jam, not lock back, or stovepipe more than original version. I still prefer the max despite this. S&W bodyguard gen 1 performed flawlessly then after 600 rounds started to have same problems as the ruger. ALL other m&p pistols have been more reliable then glocks and my choice for carry. Having a S&W gen 2 with FIGHTING pistol features is a total win given the same relative size as the LCP max. S&W stainless slide and barrel is such a greater choice as my ruger (and Sootch00's) barrel and parts of the slide have already rusted from pocket carry. My M&P9C gen 1 carried for over a decade every day and minimal care or oil seen has had two minor rust spots on the edges and tiny. Simply superior choice and will be my next purchase for the the m&p bodyguard 380. Thanks Sootch00 for this comparison as this is exactly what I wondered after your last video. Glad you were there VA lobby day 3, 4 years ago now nice to have met you, keep up the greatness!
LCP MAX - You do not have to pull the slide back before removing the tab for disassembly .Keep it simple. Saw this in another video. Just pull the pin and move the slide forward.Goes back on in the opposite.
Damn. This one is tough. Ive had and used Rugers for over 10 years but this Bodyguard 2.0 looks more aesthetic and that recoil reduction is a big selling point. Good thing Im broke right now
Must say that the Ruger has very little recoil for me. It’s due to the fact that the cartridge is a 380 ACP. So much of a reduction that it really doesn’t matter. No need to go and buy the bodyguard 2.0 right away. I’m not planning on that. The LCP Max is just fine. Eventually, I will upgrade, in 6 months or so. Also, this runs counter to gun culture advice I would recommend accuracy and no recoil standpoint, the Ruger Security-380. Nightstand safe gun due to the fact that at 15 yards almost all the rounds go in the A- zone. Plus the comfort and feel of having the LCP Max upsized to a compact is phenomenal. The trigger is butter smooth 4.5 pound rolling break. This means that as long as you squeeze the trigger consistently to the rear without jerking, you will hit your shots. The reset is not too bad either. I would say the trigger is in the middle between Glock and Canik. And did I mention this wonderful value is only about $300 in my region? You get a $400 to $500 gun for $300, and the accuracy is phenomenal and enjoyable to shoot, it’s a type of gun that will leave a smile on your face after the range. Thanks for reading.
I have owned an LCP 2, and an LCP Max. I bought the Bodyguard 2.0 on monday. Holy Crap! Much better overall gun in my opinion. Even after upgrading the trigger on the LCP Max, it still sucked. The bodyguard trigger is not perfect, but SO MUCH better than the Rugers. I shot it yesterday, and it was accurate, low recoil, and fast. VERY HAPPY with this gun!
I also have the Max (factory trigger) but want to shoot the BG2. While I love the Max’s size and weight, it is tough to grip, snappy to shoot, and the trigger sometimes pinches my finger. As a result, it’s not at all fun to practice with and so I rarely carry it. I usually carry a 9, but when I want something smaller this new pistol may be just the ticket.
There are no comparisons SW knocked this one out the park Ruger makes a fine pistol but they will rust in the box, there finish leaves much to be desired. SW finishes are great
My current pocket backup is a S&W M&P Bodyguard and it has been a good choice because it has been accurate and reliable. I just picked up my new LCP Max and took it to the range yesterday and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The LCP Max is destined to become my new primary pocket backup. Thanks for the video and keep shooting 👍.
3rd comment…….a noteworthy day for me 😂 Have the Max and carry it some in a Vedder pocket locker, and it’s eminently more shootable than the LCP which I’ve never owned, but it’s still snappy, and has some “corners” on the back that I basically put ranger bands around that helps. I’m curious about recoil impulse in comparison, thanks Sootch00!
This was personal for me. The Ruger LCP Max has been a great option but nice to see S&W enter the 2.0. There are pros and cons so we'll see. Thanks Brother
I upgraded the trigger, hammer spring, and guide rod on my lcp max. The smith might be better out of the box now. But that lcp max is just perfect for a pocket holster.
"Wife and daughter wanted one and two of the prepper wives were going to get one..." But what about the ruger LCP? do they already have the ruger or do they not like it? why or why not?
i favor the Ruuger Security easy rack 380, great firearm, very low recoil, very accurate, great sights, well made, handles well, $300.00........i added the mag. finger ext. CANCEALS easily, i am 6ft. wt.190... Also bought the Ruger Security 9, same price.........YES, i advocate frame safeties....
I vastly prefer the smooth curves on the Ruger LCP. Far less things to snag on than on the S&W. I also prefer the Ruger's large trigger guard, but it does sacrifice front grip area (which is much better on the Smith). I do prefer striker fired guns, but the LCP "DA" trigger pull is nice and safe and well proven. So the favor definitely goes to the Ruger for me, but it's nice to see S&W come out with something like the 2.0
Excellent review and comparison. But I thought the BG2 comes with a tritium night sight. Also, featuring the ladies and getting their opinions would have added an important perspective from a critical marketing group.
Excellent review ! I Love my Max and its my summertime carry everyday ! i have big hands and have no issues staying on target with the 10 round mag , i have the 12 round mag but never use it .
Excellent side by side comparison. They both seem to be excellent SA pocket pistols. Personally, my own preference for small pocket pistols carried with a round in the chamber is that regardless of strike or hammer fire, I prefer them to be DA only for the first shot, and possibly with a thumb safety too. That's based on some knowledge of incidents in which someone has managed to fire their pocket pistol while fumbling a fast pull from their pocket or purse. We agree, gun owner error, and that every pistol should be drawn only from a holster in a perfect world. Of course the world we are in is not that perfect world and also many people who own small pocket pistols did not get hours and hours of class room instruction and range time before getting the pistol. There is a reason the ultra small pistols are called pocket pistols or purse pistols or even vest pistols. Something to do with they are often carried in pockets. Sometimes barrel up, sometimes barrel down,, depending on the size and looseness of the pocket or purse. Again, in that perfect world nothing else is in that pocket. But again, I have knowledge of times when that rule may have been ignored and pesky house door or car keys entered into the equation.. All of the incidents of that type I am personally aware of involved pocket/vest pistols with single action trigger pulls. I am not personally aware of similar incidents involving pistols with DA only first shot pulls. I am not sure why both S&W and Ruger ignore that reality and don't offer DA pocket pistols. Some firms do of course, the often copied Walther PPK, the Kahr CW, the Seecamp LWS .380, etc,
This man is expert about carefully commenting of each gun so to appease both manufacturers. 😁 And the Bodyguard 2.0 is thinner not the LCP Max, just saying.
@@Gl0ckb1te ouch. I’ve had my max since the week it came out and it’s a good gun but it’s unpleasant to shoot, the trigger is shit, and it kicks like a little mule.
My issue with the S&W is the way the back is shaped. These guns are made to hide in the pocket when going out for something quick or for hot summers. The LCP Max has the ability to take out of any pockets without any snags due to the rounded back. As soon as I saw the Bodyguard, I knew that I was going to have trouble taking it out of my pockets due to the way the back is shaped. If you have having trouble with muzzle flip, think about getting the barrel ported. I do this with all of my guns.
My lcp max has been nothing but trouble. It has been back to Ruger twice for light primer strikes. I love everything about it except the unreliability. I just got it back today and hopefully they fixed it. If not I am buying the new S&W. Great comparison video
Within 1 hour of your bodyguard 2.0 I literally went to decide (I don’t own any 380 ammo) and $270 for the LCP max I had to. Also I couldn’t find the bodyguard 2.0
Good review. Thanks. I've got an LCP Max, and I can recommend it. It's a very easy gun to conceal, especially with the 10-round mag. The only thing I never liked about it is that for some reason the trigger bites my finger no matter how I grip the gun. (I've read that some others are affected by this.) It's obviously not really a big issue for carrying, but when I'm at the range, I put s small band-aid on my finger or wear a tight-fitting glove. By the way, I also have an original LCP that I carry when I'm dressed very lightly and/and need total "invisibility" - if you know what I mean. AND I also have a Sig P365. As you say, another good choice, but slightly larger and heavier. But, of course, 9mm.
Can I ask a question here, you said that Smith & Wesson sent The Bodyguard and Ruger sent over the LCP Max you said you owned one and you carry it constantly so why would Ruger have to send you one also😮
Ruger sent the LCP Max when it was introduced for a review. I've had it ever since. They didn't send another one, not that I would be opposed to it! lol~
I carried the lcp2 for years I switched to the max and been very happy either way it. The smith looks well made but for me the max will stay the winner
I like the fact that these two are the same height, yet the S&W grip length is longer. The only thing I dislike about the S&W is that the rear plate(slide to frame) looks open for debris. They really cheaped out there.
You don’t have to pull the slide back to dissemble the Ruger or reassemble it for that matter. Watch the Ruger video on field stripping the LCP MAX and the proper way to check the function. Good video and comments.
Smith took away height from the slide and added it to the grip. Smart.
Hammer vs striker
The bodyguard’s grip is also slightly more angled too
That height of the bore axis on the Ruger is what I like least. It may be time to get rid of it for this!
It helps someone grip it....
@@timmeinschein Who might that "someone" be? It certainly ain't me. I HATE the LCP MAX grip. The bore axis is so high it needs an altimeter.
The front sight on the BG 2.0 is also a tritium night sight.
good to know, thanks
My LCP Max came with tritium front
@brucehaynes3044 That's why I said "also".
I don’t think the version he has had the night sight. There’s a couple variations on the S&W website. The one with tritium is the 2.0 NTS.
@@stevekoelliker6764 There are two variations, one with the thumb safety (TS) and one without (NTS). Both have the front night sight.

@@raykettel1837There are heavier springs available for the Max, it should make the recoil more comparable to the bodyguard
Oh wow - this is great. Thanks for posting! My wife carries the original Bodyguard and I carry the original LCP. Awfully tempting to upgrade!! Glad to see that the new version of the LCP locks open when it's empty.
Mine doesn't reliably lock open at all
I've always said that they would make a ruger lcp max with a 3.5 barrel instead of the 2.8 barrel and call it ruger lcp max+, it would still be highly concealable and a lot less snappy

Wow, thanks so much. Your 1st video was great. But to get a comparison to its closest competitor is awesome, thanks!

@@floorpizza8074 do they make it in stainless?
The only negative I have on my Bodyguard 2.0 is that NOBODY has spare magazines in stock yet.

I have both (got the Bodyguard 2.0 yesterday). It's not a contest, the Bodyguard 2.0 is better in every way.

I'm still carrying the original original lcp. Small, lightweight, no snag sightes, no safety needed, etc.
Bodyguard is lighter at 9.7 ounces vs 10.8, bodyguard is also thinner at 0.88" vs 0.97". Impressed more with the Smith based on that alone.
He said the bodyguard doesn't come with tritium sights but they are tritium.
There are even more reasons it's better : ... Serrations, .. Grip, .. beaver tail, .. texturing, .. sights, .. overall fit in the hand. And seems more solid and higher quality of design.
He weighed them and the s&w was heavier. He also said the ruger seemed slightly thinner.
You don't care that's incorrect? Did you even watch the video?
Sounds like you need a .22 Short
Nice deal

The 2.0 is not available yet in the 10 round only version for limited mag capacity states. I'm assuming that will change.
Yes I saw a video with a S&W rep and he said the 10rd complaint version will be releasing soon!
I’m in Washington state so I need that as well….
I wish I realized the bodyguard 2.0 was commin out. Just got the LCP max last week 😅
I'll still get the bodyguard anyway😊
I just got the LCP Max last week too 😮💨
I wouldve gotten the lcp max over the BG2 but theres no manual safety. I know, make fun of me but some of us just need the manual thumb safety.
You did the Galloway and it still had bite? I was considering, but maybe that money goes to a BG2
There are no comparisons SW knocked this one out the park
Ruger makes a fine pistol but they will rust in the box, there finish leaves much to be desired. SW finishes are great
I have a Ruger Max 9. Love it, but some rust starting on the side that is up against my body when carrying.
The smith has a tritium night front sight so the sight argument is invalid and is equal
3rd comment…….a noteworthy day for me 😂
Have the Max and carry it some in a Vedder pocket locker, and it’s eminently more shootable than the LCP which I’ve never owned, but it’s still snappy, and has some “corners” on the back that I basically put ranger bands around that helps.
I also did that to my max. The body guard looks nice.
Which trigger upgrade? I’m considering Galloway for my Max.
The comparison we've been waiting for!
Thanks for a great side by side review! I’m looking forward to doing my own and comparing results.
When he said two of the wives said they were getting them I thought he was saying he has two wives lol
Him being in prepper meeting makes this sound believable 😂
@@Gl0ckb1te that’s also one reason why I thought it lol
@@Gl0ckb1te A Polygamy Prepper.
I had seen a review claiming the Bodyguard 2.0 had a tritium front sight. It's disappointing they didn't add that feature.
Bright Dot front sight with Tritium insert. Rapid acquisition, black u-notch rear sight.
But, they did.
It does. Sootch just didn't bother looking at it past seeing orange.
That explains it.
Excellent review ! I Love my Max and its my summertime carry everyday ! i have big hands and have no issues staying on target with the 10 round mag , i have the 12 round mag but never use it .
Just picked up the bg 2.0. Doesn’t cycle underwood xtreme defenders.. huge bummer
That’s disappointing.
Failure to feed/eject ??
My ruger LCP max doesn't cycle underwood extreme defenders either
That's disappointing. Perhaps it will improve once broken in.
@rascaille3792
Mine too 🤷🏼♂️
I use critical defense on my lcp max and have never had a cycling issue.
Some firms do of course, the often copied Walther PPK, the Kahr CW, the Seecamp LWS .380, etc,
Great comparison of options for pocket carry. Thanks !
Another excellent review. Thanks Sootch00!
finally a comparison video
This is a very thorough review and comparison, really well done. Thank you, Gus
This man is expert about carefully commenting of each gun so to appease both manufacturers. 😁 And the Bodyguard 2.0 is thinner not the LCP Max, just saying.
So true. The smith is so much better that it’s laughable….and I have a Max too.
Sure is.
@@jagpilotohio literally just got mine during 4th of july weekend... so pissed
Try the Search button to find the bodyguard 2.0. Remember it’s 2024.
They didn't send another one, not that I would be opposed to it! lol~
Great review ❗️Thanks for posting ❗️
I will stick with my Ruger LCP II for now, but LCP Max is on my list for the next year 😁
The lcp max 75th anniversary edition is nice and it’s $298-$306 most places I ordered mine through Dunhams Sports
One significant difference is that you can get the bodyguard 2.0 with a manual safety.
Galloway kit in the Ruger makes it an absolute total win , no comparison
I’m intrigued by the Bodyguard 2.0…But is it a true pocket pistol? It looks big for a pocket gun. If they get much bigger I might as well carry 9mm.
It's basically the same size as the lcp max
It’s very small just looks bigger on camera
Best pocket pistol Glock 42 hands down imo🤷🏼♂️
Its design makes it look larger because it looks like it is a scaled down Shield, but yes it is TINY. I got one yesterday.
@@tylertripp4939 so true Tyler Tripp
I carried the lcp2 for years I switched to the max and been very happy either way it. The smith looks well made but for me the max will stay the winner
I like the fact that these two are the same height, yet the S&W grip length is longer. The only thing I dislike about the S&W is that the rear plate(slide to frame) looks open for debris. They really cheaped out there.
You don’t have to pull the slide back to dissemble the Ruger or reassemble it for that matter. Watch the Ruger video on field stripping the LCP MAX and the proper way to check the function. Good video and comments.
Sootch never picks one.
Let the S&W recalls begin.
