Carl is truly one of the most complete guitarists out there but I truly admire Tim’s eagerness to learn without any sense of awkwardness. I am a fan of such gifted incredible musicians that can have zero ego and become students without embarrassment. Thank you both for such a great example of teaching and learning.
Carl played at a venue here on the east coast a few years ago. It was a wednesday eve and there was hardly anyone there. I felt bad for him because he is so underappreciated. He is in my opinion one of the best and a very kool guy
Amazing. Probably the biggest takeaway from this lesson is that even highly accomplished guys like Tim Pierce can always learn new things. We often assume that such players have 'got it all' when in reality its actually a *mark* of their being highly accomplished that they know that there is more they can learn. Simply put, Tim's enthusiasm to sit down with guys like Carl and learn is what makes Tim a master player. For anyone who is frustrated that they don't feel they know as much as they should or that they have not accomplished as much as they wish they have, the issue is not your place in the journey, but rather your frustration. For every single musician, learning is a journey to be enjoyed and there is simply no such thing as an end to the road or a utopia.
That was insane. So refreshing to see someone so skilled as yourself show humility and that they are also always learning. You are an inspiration, Tim. Thank you both.
Boy, you know it. Said it here before and I don't wanna sound like Carl's pimp - but can you think of a better, more informed player than Carl? I can't and I've studied with him and guys like Mike Stern ( a totally cool guy and incredible player) but Carl's fluid, ridiculous versatility sets him very much apart. I'm not a hero worship guy, not at all, but Carl Verheyen is the absolute shit.
That was so much fun to watch. It’s not every day you see a top pro like Tim looking befuddled by someone else playing. That thumb chord coming under was just face meltingly cool
I wrote Carl a comment on a video demo of a vintage Gibson amp I was selling. I had no idea who he was or how good, just that he had played the same amp a Gibson Tweed RVT-79 stereo in mint condition and he replied with a few hours, we went back an forth an he said so I 'll see you at my next gig in your area, the Sierra Nevada Brewery in Chico, Ca at the time. Then I found out how good he was, yet he was just a cool regular guy really interested in talking about the amp. That was a great reality check for-sure. Then to see this, I knew he toured with Super Tramp a few years later, but not since 1985...WoW!! Slightly intimidated, until he starts to talk like an old friend ready to help you get it what ever 'it" is. Maximum Respect - Loo
That's awesome and humble coming from you, R. J. I'm glad to see your comment. I've spent hours and hours on youtube watching you play. I'd love to see you visit Tim's house (or do your own similar thing) You, too, are one of my favorite guitar players on the planet.
The man's a contortionist...He is a great player and as far as I've seen a great guy too he's got an excellent video lesson on Truefires site...It also goes to show you that even when you may think you've pretty much nailed it all, there's more to learn...This is why I play...not accolades, not any delusions of grandeur just the unadulterated love of the instrument...Great video...
I watched this twice in a row before I noticed that I had a huge shit eating grin on my face the entire time. This is extraordinarily brilliant. Thank you Tim for posting this video and hosting Carl!
Tim I'm glad I discovered your channel last week ..don't know where I've been that I've missed it... so far I'm loving it ..you have great videos ..great teaching.. a lot of channels don't really give you a lot of information just enough to tease you to go buy something.. so far I've learned a lot from your channel so thank you..
I never realized what a musical Genius Carl Verheyen is. I saw him play at Sweetwater Gearfest, two years ago, I was absolutely amazed, and got to meet him, what an awesome experience.
I've watched this several times and it just get's better. Both accomplished guys and even Carl does something he's never done before (in 60 some odd years) ! Fun to see them enjoying a little play time ! Mr. V can not only play anything at any time, he can perfectly describe everything about it. Dr. V and some !
i met Carl at NAMM in the late 90s, when we was at the small Thomastik-Infeld string booth (he was an endorser) i had been trying to digest his amazing Intervallic Rock Guitar instructional video, and he was very cool and kind and talked to me for over an hour. brilliant player and his physical dexterity is very impressive. he makes playing very long-complex-sophisticated lines look easy. he and TimP are legends.
I really enjoyed this. I've rewound the section where Carl is showing Tim those great chords. It's something I'd never see anywhere else but here. Thanks
Holy spit this is so good. Play an Ab min-7 with the root at the 11th fret on the "A" string... add the available open E's and you'll get the coolest sounding E chord you've ever heard. Carl taught me a few things now to try. Thank you.
Due fantastici e straordinari chitarristi... cosa si può volere di più? c'è solo da ascoltare e cercare di imparare! Two fantastic and awesome guitarists ... what more ? there's only to listen and try to learn!
Ok. Guitar just got awesome again. Thank you Tim for making moments like this a reality. And doubly so for sharing freely with the guitar loving world. You are a beautiful soul. Both of you.
Well I suck tim pierce channel is the best.. the wealth of Knowledge between these two men or tim and anyone guest he has on his channel is priceless I just wish I understood 1/4th of it
Had a right good day playing guitar today - watching this at the end of it would have made me feel like shit when I was young...now I'm old...it inspires!
Did you all catch that bit when Carl was playing country and he did a big bend then while holding the bend played a lick on top of that with his pinky and ring finger. That was bad ass! (At 3:51 )
Yeah, that is an awesome lick, it is very common in country music, especially when imitating the steel guitar. Check out Jerry Donahue, he's a master at this style. th-cam.com/video/fcWoYWONszw/w-d-xo.html
Carl is really amazing. The only time I've ever seen him was on a video he did about adjusting the tremolo bar on his Strat. He is definitely a master!
Carl was my 1980 guitar teacher. Later he joined the touring version of Supertramp- Of course he never aged. He also turned me onto jazz guy, Ron Eshte.
Booaah.... I mean, Tim is already incredible but Carl.... man he is insane. Holy sh.... and he always know what he is playing from the scales and still inventing new melodies, new licks. I suppose there isn't a single style he can't play. Thanks a lot Tim for spoiling us with this musical Alien! I simply LOVE IT!
Wow - Carl teaching Tim something - sheesh these guys! Incredible. Carl's videos on how to float a tremolo are fantastic also - that's how I found him. Guys like him and Jack Pearson are the greatest.
I was hooked from the moment Eric started playing. But when he mentioned Lenny Breau and the Gm7add?#%&*^ I cannot believe how great a player he is...Again tx to Tim for sharing his talent & knowledge. So amazing to have Tim, Rick Beato, Rhett Schull, Brett Papa, Marty Shwartz, Carl Brown, and Justin Sandercoe, who has been doing free videos for 15+ years, and so many others...
Who the hell are the the 5 people who don't like this? Or at least feel the need to express their dislike by hitting the thumbs down? Just a couple of great players and great guys sharing. Damn...there are some seriously sick people in the world.
Talk about Christmas in July! Thank you! thank you! thank you! I did feel like I was cheating when I tried that F# altered and got the high A with a cross fret bar. I think I will be happy with that! It reminded me of Joe Pass joking with all the guitar players sitting in front of him...….. This one is simply superb! Seems like a fun hang for you both!
I still remember seeing him at MI in Hollywood all the time and then at the Baked Potato in N Hollywood back in the day! They didn't really touch on his intervalic playing, which is what really set him apart at the time. Awesome player!
Carl is truly one of the most complete guitarists out there but I truly admire Tim’s eagerness to learn without any sense of awkwardness. Just ,Humbling and Spiritual ! Wow! What a couple of beautiful Human Beings! Please cum to NZ.
My first guitar lesson in LA in 1982 was with Carl. Took many more after that. He would always blow my mind.
Where was he teaching at?
@@frankfuentes5659 His house.
Masters at work...Tim is so inspiring and humble...love him....and Carl is an Alien!!
Carl played at a venue here on the east coast a few years ago. It was a wednesday eve and there was hardly anyone there. I felt bad for him because he is so underappreciated. He is in my opinion one of the best and a very kool guy
Tim is so gracious to share this with us. How many of us would post a video showing us trying to catch up with another guitarist? Love your class Tim.
Amazing. Probably the biggest takeaway from this lesson is that even highly accomplished guys like Tim Pierce can always learn new things. A beginning with no end. I'm just lazy. :)
Carly Verheyen never ceases to amaze me. Too good.
This is the best thing in the internet right now, my favorite session guitarists in one spot
Absolutely amazing! Wow! I learned so much Tim! Carl is incredible!
That was insane. So refreshing to see someone so skilled as yourself show humility and that they are also always learning. You are an inspiration, Tim. Thank you both.
Tim this was outstanding!! I miss having Carl as a teacher at GIT. Such an effortless and smart player.
Still have my notebook of my licks I wrote down after lessons with Carl.
Two geniuses-great video Tim!
Utterly inspiring! Thank you Tim once again for your mad skills, humble nature and sharing all you know and who you know to keep it all fresh!

He is really a cool nice person besides being a great guitarist. He's a good story teller too.

It won't go away either!!!

My absolute favorite new channel, I have been a Tim Pierce fan forever, but didn't know about his TH-cam channel until a few days ago

i met Carl at NAMM in the late 90s, when we was at the small Thomastik-Infeld string booth (he was an endorser)

Stunning playing from Carl - and Tim, as gracious as ever, happy to take a back seat, here... Two of my favourite guitar players in the same video :0)
Carl and Tim are so crazy good!
Mr. Verheyen is always raising the bar, he's beyond amazing!
actually he is loweiring it, with just the right amount of pressure haha
This video makes me want to tab all of Carl’s playing, learn it note for note, and analyze the hell out of it. This is absolute gold.
This was just fantastic. What a great conversation between two seriously great players, so, so good!
Thank you,
This was a treat to hear!
Many uears ago, Carl Verheyen turned into one of my favorite players after the first few bars.
Just awesome. Can't wait for the MasterClass lesson.

Amazing seeing Tim struggling to figure out what Carl is doing like what the rest of us do!!!!!! there is hope for us!
Carl sets the bar in the stratosphere. Truly amazing guitar player.

Carl Verheyen is amazing and such a smooth tone from a Strat, love it :)
Who would give a thumbs down? A deaf person>??
Wow, masterclass is gonna be incredible 👍👍
Carl is one lf my fav players ever. If u wanna see crazy chords with the thumb take a look to Andre Nieri man ... such a brilliant player

It was interesting to watch Tim’s facial expressions on some of the things Carl was doing.
Carl is so good that he actually demotivates me. Wow. True Master!
this is so mind boggingly good.. incredible stuff.
OH, my fingers are all tangled up now! Thanks Carl (Tim) ♥
AND Carl Verheyen knows the absolute best way to set up a floating strat trem! The guy’s a genius...
Best TP ever, I think; had me ROFL. CV's chords, harmonics, arpeggios, & dissonance all jaw-dropping; tho Tim remains my hero.
Wow - Carl teaching Tim something - sheesh these guys! Incredible. Carl's videos on how to float a tremolo are fantastic also - that's how I found him. Guys like him and Jack Pearson are the greatest.
My 2 favorite guitarists doin what they do best. Killin it guys. Guitar Land and Atlas Overload are 2 of the greatest albums ever.😎🎸

These guys are amazing. Also like how they mention Luke a few times. Respect
I have learned so much from Carl over the years
What did I just see? That was awesome Tim!..................Cheers!
One word, AMAZING!
I amazed at Carl's knowledge of the neck. Knowing the notes at any point and intervals against his root note. I am saddened that I did not study more.
2 of the best guitar magicians at their craft. Wow!!
Two of the best session players ever...
Oh man...mind blowing awesome good! : )
That Strat though! So woody and full. Bravo!
That was like watching Zeus and Poseidon having a jam.
Having jam?
Who the hell are the the 5 people who don't like this? Or at least feel the need to express their dislike by hitting the thumbs down? Just a couple of great players and great guys sharing. Damn...there are some seriously sick people in the world.

Thanks I really got my groove on hear:)
Those wide open intervals remind me of a lot of Pat Metheny's playing, but i loved the advice to write ideas down!
I still remember seeing him at MI in Hollywood all the time and then at the Baked Potato in N Hollywood back in the day! They didn't really touch on his intervalic playing, which is what really set him apart at the time. Awesome player!
Cool lesson. And, the One Rainy Wish voicing from Jimi!
Carl is a guitar monster. His playing is on another level.
Two masters talk, I listen.
that stuff amazes me, my friend is in to all that and he is teaching me it. sounds so cool
Mind-blowing!!
no.. I've never seen that before!..amazing!
Carl sure knows how to produce a big fat clean boss tone from his strat - I love that. Very nice player too.
That Strat is a mint stock '65. He's also got a '61 and a '58. All killers.
