My c40 twins a beast ! People Love the shape. I love that it’s quicker than manufacturer states also sub 4.5 seconds realistically range is an honest issue though 150 Miles in the winter 200 In the summer
I just test drove the iX1, my dealer got it in only yesterday. I loved its refinement, and was impressed by its performance compared to my current 128ti. It was very impressive inside, and felt way more premium than the XC40 Recharge I drove a couple of weeks ago. I also tested an i4 40 this morning, and I was surprised to find that the i4 was much sloppier around bends, roundabouts etc than the iX1. It felt like a much heavier car, despite likely weighing much the same. I think BMW have managed to hide all the battery weight more effectively in the iX1. The XC40 also suffered from the same issue I found on the XC60 and Polestar 2, namely that the rails under the front seats are set too close together, which makes for very limited space under the seat for rear passengers to place their feet. This was what dealt a fatal blow to the XC60 when we were looking for a family SUV, and we went with the X3 instead. When you have a 6’2” teenage son with size 11 feet, it actually makes all the difference. Once again, the iX1 doesn’t suffer from this odd Volvo group quirk, making the rear much more comfortable for tall and large footed passengers.
Love my 2023 C40 Recharge Twin. I found the one pedal driving to be natural and intuitive after a couple hours of driving. The combo of hard controls and infotainment work well together. The options under Settings in the infotainment are set and forget, unless you enjoy fiddling with the sound system. The single engine is the rational choice, but I haven't had so much fun with the Twin since my 1968 Mustang. I'm disappointed that my trim level does not have adaptive cruise control, wireless Apple CarPlay, digital review mirror, and car cam.
Another brilliantly presented video Vicky. A great objective comparison of these two great cars. Personally I thing there have been some penny pinching from both brands given the price but hopefully in the next years as supply chains come back up to speed,, with EV demand slowing in the UK and with an increased choice of cars the prices should normalise somewhat unless the brands agree to get greedy but I think that is unlikely. Many thanks for sharing. My pick would be the Volvo right now but I'm not in a position that I need to change right now.
Penny pinching? Too right! I am really shocked by the poor quality of the iX1/X1's interior - it's so much worse than I was expecting after 30 years in 3, 5 & X5 series cars. Some examples: no lining in the door pockets, terrible hard, shiny & scratchy plastics everywhere, no oddments drawer under the steering wheel, rear seats are dropped using a flimsy fabric pulls (not BMW's usual seat-top catches), middle rear seatbelt retracts into the car roof (because the seats are so flimsy), cardboard parcel shelf lifted by strings......
Using a 2 year old version of the xc40 when a new model with a bigger battery, better efficiency, and a lower price is avaliable is just lazy of you. My grandparents' c40 2024 achieves about 520km of range in optimal weather. It also cost just 650 000 kr, which is equivalent to 48k gbp...
I did wonder. I ordered a P8 2023 XC40 single motor. This review didn’t make any sense to me. The only options were climate pack and lifestyle pack. I think even the tow bar is standard now
We don't get the iX1 here in Canada. So it's about the same price as the XC40 when built with similar options? Except it has a smaller battery and less power? Here's in Canada the XC40 AWD with the first big 10k dollar option package is the same price as a Model Y AWD.
When humdrum cars like these cost over £50,000 it’s time to give up. Gone are the days when everyday cars were affordable. I wouldn’t buy out of principal.
My wife and I just did our sums. She has a twenty year old Eurovan and I a year old XC40 Recharge. She spends about £2500 a year on our beloved camper, and it costs about £75 a tank for premium. Mine needs a service every 2 years costing about £100 and uses about £20 a month in electricity, and drives 750+ miles. Now our electricity is a lot cheaper and petrol a bit less on the west coast of Canada, but you catch my drift. The capital cost of a new car is obscene in the UK. I paid the equivalent of £52000 with tax for my Ultimate spec XC40, but in one year I’ve spent just £240 to drive over 8000 miles. Plus, when it needs charging I just plug it in. The electricity provider switches the charger on when demand is lowest. And trust me, if my car is humdrum with 408hp, you must drive something very special indeed!
would (have been) worth trying BMW's voice command (i'm using it for 7 years, and since 5 years it's at least as good as the google box's we have at home)
Volvo interior is too dated and I prefer BMW exterior styling. BMW wins for me. This is the first comparison that has said XC40 drives better than iX1. So I'm not sure that assessment is accurate.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Volvo interior is more minimalist, certainly, but I prefer simple, and could care less about fussy screen layouts. Perhaps you will like the look of the new EX30, but it sounds like you really like the BMW which is fine. I don’t think anyone would regret having either car, which is what I felt Vicki was saying.
Agree with both your assessment. I have no vested interest in either brand but to say the Volvo drives "better" than the BMW is a personal thing. Interior is no contest, the Volvo's interior is from a decade ago.
EV car buyers and owners should insist that a spare tyre be part of standard equipment. Forget about space in the front trunk give me a spare tire there. You may never use it often but when you need it you need it
Not many EVs with spares I’m aware of - it’s a pricy option on the Rivian. But you do have an SOS button on the roof liner to call the tow truck service as part of the package, and there’s an inflator kit, FWIW.
@@davidcottrell570 Those are good options. I agree that EV Tyres are pricey, but they can manufacture purpose built rubber to keep costs low. Remember to check the fine print.
A Volvo drives better than a BMW, who would have thought it. Love the XC40, it would be nice if they gave the interior a facelift as it hasn't changed much at all in the models life, other than that, its a great car. I would def take the single motor version though.
Another great video... Now for £58 000 you could get a very well equipped, lightly used 2 year old BMW X5 diesel with cash left over for several years of fuel.. .. Superb amount of space, equipment and comfort... If these cars were £38 000 then the picture might be different but at £58k you really must be in love with the idea of an EV and have access to another ICE vehicle as back up for away from home trips - no those public chargers are just not up to the grade.. Expensive, rare, overused and often or working - even if you one of my subscriptions needed to use different companies..
A hundred years ago, people said the same thing. Then Henry Ford came out with the model T in black and things began to change. 12 years ago a guy called Musk came out with an EV that came in 5 colours, and slowly, the car industry realized they needed to change. He’s sold 2 million cars since then. In a year’s time, Volvo will have as many options as Tesla (in a lot more colours). BMW already has what, 8 or more models? Maybe you aren’t ready yet, but please don’t pick a diesel. Your lungs will thank you.

OK, so when I bought my Volvo a year ago, it cost the equivalent of £52K, compared to over £60K at the time for the AWD Y in my market. I looked, and it was too expensive. They are now dumping them for about £40K in our market. Tesla has done some fine engineering, and in some ways are still years ahead, but in others like build quality, not so much. Why the heck would you not beep your “hey google” in the video? Triggering people’s assistants is just not fun.
Save yourself 5mins and just go for Tesla model Y long range
OK, so when I bought my Volvo a year ago, it cost the equivalent of £52K, compared to over £60K at the time for the AWD Y in my market. I looked, and it was too expensive. They are now dumping them for about £40K in our market. Tesla has done some fine engineering, and in some ways are still years ahead, but in others like build quality, not so much. I’m guessing you either aspire to own a Tesla, or have so much money that spending £60K and seeing the value of your car plummet doesn’t phase you. Geely alone has 2 new Volvos, 2 Polestars and 3 Zeekr branded cars coming out in the next year and a bit. Tesla? The “Cybertruck”, and the hint of a small car. Maybe. Still think a model Y is a great idea?

Volvo has many mechanical and electrical problems….probably has unique safety features nevertheless this brand is underwhelming
I love my new iX1, much better brand, perhaps best in class modern interior (vs Benz the 2nd but too many screens today isn't it?) more roomy vs Volvo.
Bmw best interior. 😂 don't think so
Eline sağlık abi 🔥
