    It would be interesting to see the difference to the nordic versions of the winter tyres. Such as Nokian Hakkapeliitta or Michelin X-Ice Snow.

      I had the Hankook on an SUV , for about a month. They were useless in Nordic conditions, and I switched to Hakka R5 after that. Huge difference on snow and ice. But the Hakkapeliitta R5 is very bad at aquaplaning. One of the worst tires I've had in heavy rain.

      Just rewatched that video again for reference. Is there a resource available where we could possibly reference CE winter, soft compound, and studded tire geographical suggested areas. North Americans and Europeans may not be familiar with each place's geographical climates, and a reference guide might be handy for ex-pats and immigrants. Not that I'm suggesting that you should have to do it. You put a ton of work into these reviews, and you are my 1st stop for comparisons when tire shopping. Keep up the good work!@@tyrereviews

      @@tyrereviewsyes do explain, I am no expert , I live in Québec and our winters are also a mix. Powdered and wet snow, slush, 0 c to -40c, rain once or twice, lots of black Ice on overpass. My Hakka5 have phenomenal, but thinking of buying Michelin X-ice & snow this year for my new car. For example continental are considered good but not the best here in our area

    I really miss the Ice driving test in this one. Winter annoyingly has it all, but the most worrysone moments are ice. Even in dry circumstances, you'll have ice collection near traffic lights as cars dump their water via the exhaust there. About 50 meters of it to the traffic lights. And of course when snow gets compacted to black ice which usually takes just one day. Happy to see Maxxis in the test. Off road possibly the best Mud and maybe AT tires, so good to see they are branching out and did a decent job. I assume they'll improve in the coming years and become one of the main brands where price and quality are best. I just bought the maxxis and Nokians, but mainly as there was nothing else available for my LC200, Prado 150 and Suzuki Grand Vitara. I do have older Miss Alpines, and despite having done 60k on them, i do have some trust left in them. Great tires. Thanks for the review, top quality as always.

    You are a legend. Thanks again for making these videos. It's invaluable material for us drivers trying to make the right safe choice. I had 4 Goodyear vector 4seasons gen 3 put on the family car this weekend. Compared to the Pilot sports Ive been using for years the car felt more softer, a bit squidgy but I will get used to that. but most importantly I know i can be confident that my family will be safe in wet or winter conditions, and that's what really matters. Even the tyre fitter said that these are the only tyres he uses for his family cars. thank you from a UK subscriber

      According to the subjective opinion of most people in my country, if we take premium tires, Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Plus SUV is considered a better option than Conti or Michelin. We often have “porridge” on our roads - a mixture of water, snow, sand and mud. + bad roads. It is believed that the TS 870 P and Pilot Alpin 5 SUV are better for the Eurowinter, where there is less snow and better roads.
      The main complaint about Conti is that they wear out quickly. Most likely, this is due to the quality of the road surface.

  • @Z-u-m-a

    Great review.
    It would be good though if you state the temperature for the wet/dry testing. In this and the other winter/AS videos. If not below say 7 degrees doesn't it compromise the results given the optimal design parameters, and especially if doing any comparisons with summer tyres?
    Slopes too - I've managed along flat sections in the snow ok with summer tyres before, after a suddenly flurry, but it's the traction uphill and breaking downhill that makes a difference and really matters. Great if you could get more of that in. It's hard to do everything, but I'd guess it's probably more useful to most than lap times on snow... if less fun :)

    So my take away is:
    In order to improve rolling resistance it is very difficult not do a huge trade off (against wet / aqua / snow).
    Alpin 5 was best in snow and other, because it kept to this rule.
    However
    Conti managed to improve RR without much tradeoff, which is nice.

    • @tyrereviews
      @tyrereviews  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @supremeboy
      @supremeboy 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I will be getting these Continentals for this winter for my brand new hybrid 4wd CRV. The Rolling resistance was major factor as hybrid can go far on electric mode (not plug in version) the less resistance it has. Sure Alpin 5 has better noise reduction but at the cost of RR that is too high.

    • @SayAhh
      @SayAhh 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know ppl who run on bald tires because they cannot afford new tires. Heck, I've even seen all 4 tires with the wires showing! They cannot afford to not have tires with some tread left but if all they can afford for their $200 beater are cheap tires, then I'm not going to judge them. Sometimes they even have to buy used tires, but yeah, I agree: always buy the best tires you can afford because medical bills can easily run into the thousands (in the US).
      [I envy ppl in other countries who will look at this and laugh at how insane that our healthcare system still has not improved or catch up to Europe and others.]

I think they get overlooked given the amount of vans on the road, I've had a company van for 13 years and drive 40k per year in all conditions, and they only fit mid range summer tyres, recently due to a mix up I was give premium all season tyres an the difference in the wet during summer was way better than the mid range Summer tyres I'm actually looking forward to the winter knowing I've got now decent tyres so a good comparison on van tyres would be great.

    Just subbed. Love your channel. We live in Canada and I just bought a 2024 Rav4 hybrid awd and we get a good variety of snow / ice and slush. What do you recommend for snow / slush performance in the Micheline line? Im looking at Micheline X Ice -Snow, Alpin and Cross Climate 2?

    • @jonmoceri
      @jonmoceri 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have the Cross Climate 2 on my 2019 Subaru Forester Sport. Perfect year round tire for Seattle and the snowy mountains. I'm amazed how well it performs in slush and deep water.
      I used to switch between a winter tire like the X-ice and a regular all season. But with the Cross Climate, I don't do that anymore.
      A friend has the Cross Climate 2 on her RAV4, in Florida, because it performs so well during the heavy thunderstorm downpours.

      thanks for the reply. We get some pretty serious snow / ice here and as the rav comes with brand new micheline all seasons ill probly get the X snow ice for the winter

      Slush is difficult to test, but I imagine the CC2 would do fine in it. If you do get serious snow / ice then X-Ice is the only real option.

    Thank you for the fantastic video! I've watched it multiple times and even shared it with a couple of friends. Based on your recommendation and taking advantage of a great promotion offered by dealer, I've chosen the Continental WinterContact TS870 (235/55/R19) for my Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q4 with 280hp. I can't wait to see how this combination performs on the winter roads!

Thanks - need some for France this winter but want good wet grip too, living in UK, so favouring the Goodyear for my RAV4 AWDi

    It is frustrating that some of these tires are not available in places.
    You should include tires from previous seasons in your future reviews. That way, if we cant get access to some of them, its possible to compare them to previous generations.

    I’d be curious to know the temperature of the track during the dry tests. I feel that the hard compound of the cheap tires explains its dry performance and the poor performance of the better cold weather performers.

      I'm actually just in the process of fitting my Cayenne with the Nokian Outpost nAT as I wanted a winter rated AT tire. My wifes SUV uses the CC2 as a winter tire in the salt lake region.

      @@tyrereviews Thanks. Yes I was thinking about the CC2(from your last review). In the winter we only get maybe 1 or 2 weeks(if that) of the white stuff on the roads, mostly rain rain rain, and rarely below 0 C, so would the CC2 still be a good choice. I thought at one time you were running Continentals on your Cayenne. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the test . Just bought the new Mazda CX90 and need winter tires. Sometimes it depends on availability. Because tires are 21 inch was going to go for the optional 19 in tire. Is a wider tire better in snow or a narrow tire. Your thoughts on which tire and narrow or wider?

    Could you please do an Electric Vehicle tire review? I especially want to see the new Hankook iON EVO AS compared to previous “ECO” non EV tires for efficiency. I cannot find the winner on ContinentalTire's website, which shows the 'ContiWinterContact TS830 P', but not the 'WinterContact TS 870 P' as tested. Is this the winner here discontinued? The names are awfully similar, but they are indeed different, and confusing!
