@@ProjectExMachina Agree on this, since braking performance of most UHP tyres seems to improve with increasing temperature, while in real life you'll likely do just one emergency stop, not ten of them, which means your tyres are actually cold in wet with no chance to warm up as in repeated braking testing.

After watching this video, I've bought the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 RFT* at 225/45/18 and 255/40/18 dimensions for my F30 3.20i and I'm absolutely thrilled with it. I've used Bridgestone Potenza RFT* and Pirelli Cinturato P7 RFT* before these and I must say that the Evo3 blew me away. It might be a psychological "new-tyre effect" but I'm really pleased with them. I've never considered Hankook to be a premium brand but after seeing that tread pattern in person and trying them on, I was sold. Also, thanks for the great video. I really hate asking tyre dealerships about different aspects of tyres because they're always trying to push either the most expensive or the most-stocked option they have. Since I only buy new tyres every 3-4 years, I can't be and shouldn't be expected to become an expert on them. So these videos have been great for a tyre noob like myself.

First off, I love this channel. No bias, no crap just testing and results. Tires are probably the hardest thing to test because of all the variables (size, environment, car etc.) and cost but Tyre Review basically eliminates them all.
Second the PS4S are hands down my favourite tire for where I live since we get a lot of rain and some sun. It’s very grippy in the rain and has low noise and good ride comfort. It also has a really nice sidewall design too

Has a little less feel while loaded in the corner i would say. Noise and comfort i didnt notice too much of a difference, slightly yes, you can feel a bit more imperfections on the road but it still absorbs them not crashes over them. Straight line acceleration(fwd) feels a bit better too 🤔. Oh and morning temperatures we have atm are around 10°C atm and it still has good levels of grip before warming up, its understeer biased like ps4s while not warmed aswell. Oh braking feels amazing aswell 1.2-1.3G on stock brakes.

I do 30,000 miles per year - and lots of it on tight, twisty, and often wet Cumbrian roads, and they just make me smile! They give me tonnes of confidence, grip and feel, and they last better than previous UHP tyres I've tried from Falken and Vredstein, all whilst being relatively affordable. Data and maths are one thing, but feedback, safety feeling and subjective feeling are still very important. Going fast is one thing, going fast being nervous with a twitchy car is another thing. And this review, with one car and so much choice really shows that you might have a chassis no matter what, Golf or Gt3 RS, 4 rubber circles is what could do a very, very, very big difference in handling, but also safety when enjoying our toys. So once again thank you and shout out for your skills 👏👏

It was really interesting to see the Eagle F1 SS "falling off" so much in the Wet compared to the tests you've done with it before in a different size.
There's something i'd be curious about when it comes to the new Potenza. When you say that the tyre does need a bit of heat does that mean that just rolling around with the tyre for let's just say 10 minutes or something (without any considerable cornering or braking, just the utmost casual driving) is enough to have it switched on? Or would you say that you need to work a bit to have it switched on like taking a bunch of corners/braking progressively before you can really trust the tyre?
This Test was pretty much everything i've hoped for and even more. Amazing content, once again!

I was surprised the F1 Supersport, did not do better in the wet. I love this tyre because it is so good on cold, wet track days in the UK. In 235/40/18, it is amazing in the wet.

I fit F1 Supersports to my BMW 120d last season. Staggered. Below 10 degrees C ambient they are far off their warm performance. Not a real problem for sensible daily motoring.
They let go "early", but are still progressive and controllable.
In wet weather, around 5 degrees C...the transition is more abrupt.
Been hammering about in 15-20 degrees in wet weather lately, and the wet grip is high. Surprisingly high, in contrast to 5 degree wet weather.
They can handle summer trackdays, at least with my safe-but-fun driving style. If the cold weather performance was better, I expect they'd die on trackdays.
Living in Denmark, I run winter tyres October to May, when the temperatures are under 5, and often freezing!

Stunning video. The editing was spot on, all the right detail included and a great round up. You've done well to condense it down to a 14 minute edit and still retain the scale and detail by using the graphics.
Have you considered doing a video using a couple of tyres, but three different sizes for each to demonstrate how size can affect tyre dynamics? Some cars will have options of 18", 19" or 20" rims, but presumably the same rolling diameter and therefore sidewall variation which could show interesting results.
I'd love to see a video on pressures too and how that can be used to affect balance and manage the tyres better on track, though I appreciate that may be a bit too niche.
I've gone from the PS4 to the F1SS based on your comparison of the PS4S and F1SS and I found the Goodyear to be tricky in the wet and far more resilient to track work than the Michelin.

I recently fitted a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres (215/45x18) to my 2017 Mazda3 SP25GT (Australian spec) based on an earlier review by yourself. Unusually for Australia, in this particular size, the tyres are made in Spain, not Thailand, as seems to be the norm here. They’re fitted to a slightly wider (7.5”) rim which seems to have given the car just slightly more responsiveness. I couldn’t be happier with the choice. @@JP.708 it’s an NC3 2l w/ an Öhlins R&T.
Warning: the following observations are very subjective and not in any way scientifically measured! 😉
The PS4 were _very_ nice, especially coming from the old Bridgestones. Very safe, unagitated, predictable, high levels of grip, but also a bit… plain and boring. Very little tread wear, too! Maybe a bit _too good_ all around for a fun car, because they never really gave you that adrenaline kick.
The F1Asy are more direct on turn in, and definitely a bit less smooth, with even some more dry grip, especially once they are warm, but a good bit less wet grip. Their breakaway behavior is a bit more sudden and jerky than with the Michelins, but not uncomfortably so. They feel a bit more crashy on bad roads, but you also get more feedback through the steering wheel. Don’t have them long enough to comment about wear, I only put them on last summer, and apart from one trip through the Vosges, Alps and Black Forest, I didn’t drive my car a lot since then because of the microbiology situation.

      @@JP.708 Ummm… not really I guess 😅
forum.miata.net/vb/ has always been a great resource for me.
I chose an PRHT model because I daily it (when there‘s no pandemic, at least), and it‘s a viable car even when it‘s snowy (w/ good winter tyres).
You‘ll probably want to fix the suspension if you‘re interested in a sporty car-mine came with the upgraded stock suspension (the Bilsteins), and even those were too soft for me, both in turns as well as how it dives under braking and acceleration.
The seats are super comfy, but from ~6ft+ you might not be able to heel&toe with the stock seats & steering wheel, at least for me it‘s impossible, my right knee is trapped by the steering wheel and doesn‘t allow me to turn my leg enough.
Front visibility is somewhat poor, the NC has thick pillars, and such a low frame that it‘s almost impossible to see high traffic lights and stuff when the roof is up, you might want to check if that works for you. Wrangle the rear view mirror as far up as it will go or even turn it upside down!
The boot is actually a decent size and with the top up, the top storage area can be used as an additional, sizeable storage area in a pinch.
If you go PRHT, the Smart Top module is godsent, even at its high price.
Hmm, that‘s all I can think of right now, unless you have any specific questions.

@@JP.708 Oh, and keep in mind not all models come with the locking rear diff. I‘d make sure the one you‘re buying does, unless you only want it as a cruiser. It is fun!), I‘m pretty sure w/o it the inner rear wheel would light up all the time for me.

I'm rocking 20'' wheels and the pz4 is 190 euros each and ps4s is 240. I drive about 10.000 km every year and I don't really want to buy a new set of tyres every year.

@@ZekeMagnum why discount the F1SS? That would be my choice for track work. If you're going to track it, the wear of the Bridgestones on track aren't the best

@@tyrereviews No tack work. Just as a daily in both sun and rain, so that's why I didn't include the f1ss

      Lol...
      Been checking since mid-late April!!
Also very similar thought process. Wanting a "great all rounder" for daily "road" use only, in dry and wet weather uk, for my next car due by July.
Had pz4's (hn) on my current i30N performance pack from new in 2017 and ditched them at 3-4mm, due to crap wet grip, for ps4s's which are much better. I'd heard pirelli had improved the pz4 but this sounds night and day! Aquaplaning results rules it out though.
The Goodyear f1 supersport and Bridgestone potenza sport, in this specific test/size, have slightly disappointed me. Want predictable grip without spikey oversteer or understeer and consistency without needing to heat up the tyres. Rim protection is always a bonus too😉
Think I've narrowed it down to ps4s's again or asymmetric 5🤔. The latter's favourable rim protection and novelty value might have won?
Will be going on a GR Yaris Convenience Pack.

Great review as always! Bridgestone Potenza Sport or Michelin Pilot Sport 4 (not S), for a daily use Audi TT Quattro 8N..? I can't decide..! (I live in Greece, so the weather is mostly dry)

Great review, thank you so much for this, thank you for performing this on a GTI and with this popular tyre size! I find it quite interesting to see a tyre to improve in wet braking with increasing temperature. I always thought it would be this way. This test convinces me to go with the PS4S instead of the PS4, as the penalty in daily driving abilities and esp. wet performance is quite marginal. I'll go with 235/40 R18 instead of 225/40 R18 though, despite the 235 is only available in XL 95Y DT1 interation. Anyway, thanks to Michelin for finally releasing 18" versions of the PS4S!

Great great job Jonathan and the team! Thanks, you reinforced my willing to get the tires I was thinking about for my Giulia 280CV :)
A suggestion for the next test: measure the thread depth before and after the tests, to give us an idea of the tyre wear.

Track wear != road wear, so it's information we can't give sadly as it would be too confusing
