  • my mk5 vw golf fsi has been overheating, losing power and then cutting out, after 30 mins of driving (generally in traffic) then the car overheats and cuts out. need 20-40 mins to cool down and then will get going and repeat.
after some research it turns out a potential fault could be the cam follower. turns out my cam follower tappet was not at fault. but i filmed and documented how you could diagnose to check to see if you have a faulty / broken fam follower.

Is the Fuel pressure sensor the sensor in the lower left of the video at 6 seconds in?
It is not the one attached to the fuel pump but the one to the left of that ?

Does installing a hpfp with different part number but appears same physically affects performance?

not sure to be honest. but if you look at it this way, if you 'upgrade' the HPFP, you will increase the flow which makes it better in some ways, but if you accidentally 'downgrade' it, it still fits but doesnt have the same flow you require, that can give some side effects but i dont think it will give this issue im having . it will change the characteristics of the running of the engine... not make it cut out when overheating...

Have you check the pvc valve the rubber diaphragm do wear out and will cause that issue as well

No fuel comes out pulling the pump out? Also no release valve on the pump in case hoses have to be removed?

nothing came out, everything in the video is all it it, literally just unbolts and pulls out

@@19hmxd ok so I can replace it without worrying about residual fuel pressure inside the pump ?

    • @19hmxd

@@coachgius the HPFP that i removed in the video did not release any fluids or anything . there was no pressure at all for removing what i removed, literally just un bolted as per the video. no hidden surprises on my car

@@19hmxd though I'm your case you did not need to remove the hoses but only the pump to get to the cam follower only. So may be undoing the hoses may create fuel leaking. I saw other pimp models with a release valve but can't see anything on that model that is like mine (same engine).
