I have an 8 core with 128 GB and dual D500 that I just upgraded to OS 12 using Open Core Legacy Patcher. Everything works great now and I plan to keep it for at least another year to 18 months. Can’t justify the extra expense for the Apple Silicon upgrade.
Thank you, for sharing yourself picking-up a base model 2013, space gray "trash can" size Mac Pro. Started using Apple computers in 1996 and if, they keep working never get rid of them. So, I have become a little bit of a vintage collector. Missed out on owning the G4 Cube desktops but knew that one day, I would be adding a version of the "trash can" size Mac Pro to my collection. Noticed after the introduction of the "Mac Studio" that the prices of these units started dropping "like a rock". So, I picked-up a used 8-core/ D700/ 64GB model and paired it with my already owned Apple 27-inch Cinema LED (none thunderbolt) display and then added an Apple external DVD super-drive. For the present time this system meets all of my needs and is an excellent upgrade from my 2010, "mac mini" (the last model with a built-in DVD super-drive) and everything is working great.
Did you the same, replacing my 2009 Mac mini
Thanks for sharing! I love my 2013 Mac Pro! I got it about a year ago for $320 and I’ve upgraded the cpu several times and have found that for medium DAW load that the 6core 15MB cache @ base clock of 3.7ghz turbo to 4.0 provides an excellent experience and value for a $365 computer. The higher freq makes it snappy doing browsing and desktop/general computing tasks and the 6 cores works well for mixdowns and transcoding. To my knowledge I have nothing pushing the gpu which are the 300’s so can’t comment there. The geekbench 5.2 scores are 893 and 5110.
And I forgot to mention that it’s literally the best looking and working computer I’ve ever owned.
I got my 6 core, 32 gb ram, d700 gpus for $230 shipped last month. Crazy amount of computer for the money! I paid $50 for an led cinema display 24”.
you overpaid, I got the 6 core model for $125
Hey Scott! It’s been a while, this is goodolepete (now just sal)!
dude! The 2013 mac pro was also something I dreamed of having. I also recently got one. 12 core, 8gb ram upgraded to 64gb ram, 512gb ssd. It does have the d300 graphics which is trash but 🤷♂️. Such a beautiful device!
I hope you and Karleigh are doing well! And congrats on 10K!!!
I bought mine in February 2024 12 Cores Radeon 600x2 1TB M2 and 128GB RAM for $300 Mint Condition and running like a champ with SONOMA - Still capable in 2024+ and it is a piece of art as always from Apple.
Lies
I’m going to pick up one this weekend & very excited, I’m getting it for $250 as well. Quadcore, 48gb of ram. I’ve always wanted one of these & I’m very excited.
Great video! I like the look of the new Mac pros too
in my opinion these are going to be a collection item and their value going to go up😮
"This is modern art but modern art isn't really art." once a wise man said.
You got a deal. I got mine 400 without display. The Thunderbolt 27’ is worth 150+d700 are faulty watch out. 4:34 this should been market to gamers and TH-cam creators
Just picked one up with monitors for $300 yesterday. Super excited to set it up
How beautiful is it after you plug everything into those ports?
Bruhhhh
Real burn
Incredibly biased … but so would I be! Reminds me of me when I get that good good good deal online. Enjoy, I hope it serves you well!
hahaha, you had me in the first half. Thank you for watching
Hey Scott! I'm really into going to do the same purchase, but I don't know if you tried or are you going to, do you think would be a decent machine to run ComfyUI?
The only problem is it doesnt support latest Mac OS 😂
Damn, why?? I can still install Windows 11 on intel Nehalem platform
How about thunderbolt 2 to 3 cable and a Titan Node GPU case and running whatever GPU you want ( before GPU prices go up as bitcoin takes off again )? You would be surprised what that does for 2014 Mac mini
I already have all the parts, and it is already setup. Definitely a huge difference, but takes away from the elegance of the machine
Form over functionality 😀👍
Runs Adobe CS 6 on High Sierra. Love it!
Just bought my 6 core (gonna bin that cpu and pick up the 2667 8 core) for $220. Im looking at $20 for the processor and got 64gb of ram for $70. Slap in an 1TB ssd with an adapter for $60 instead of the stock 512 it has inside and i got a steal of a trashcan i think!
Got the 8core D700 for $200
MacPro 2013 looks great but it useless. M1 mini will tear it apart in all tasks
Will this computer be good for someone that just needs to surf the net ? Or will it be too slow ?
Depends on how much you buy it for, I’d lean toward an m1 Mac mini for the cost of these things
I'm curious if you can do anything productive with it.
I use mine for gaming, graphic design and video editing
