    As an oldster who first became a fan of the character in 1966 Kato was never The Hornet's sidekick. He was always seen by us kids as an equal partner. Bruce Lee's performance elevated him in our eyes.

      absolutely correct! Kato wasn't anyone's sidekick, and he certainly wasn't another version of Robin. He was the Green Hornets Aid and equal Partner period.

      Don't forget that it was Kato who invented the gas gun and helped design the Black Beauty (at least that's what came across in the 1940's movie serials).

    One thing that wasn't mentioned about the Green Hornet that made it so popular was that the he was wanted by both the police and the mob. In order to be effective with his crusade, He portayed himself to be a mob boss in order to get close to gangs, racketeers, crime lords, and other criminals. Because of that reputation, he was also wanted by the police.

      The biggest problem I see with GH is because of the comic book-era movies have made villains “god-like” or over the top. GH really never had a world-threat or even city threat. Even in the books. There were 1 or 2 masked villains such as Johnny Dollar, but it seem there own family members were his biggest threat such as the Black Hornet or Crimson Wasp.

      I read something not terribly long ago that said someone had bought the rights to the Green Hornet and planned to do a movie that actually did justice to the characters more in the traditional sense, perhaps like the tv series.

    When I was still in high school, I remember reading a collection of Green Hornet issues from Dark Horse Comic's run of the character and instantly falling in love with the character. It really opened my eyes to the idea of interesting superheroes that exist beyond the mainstream companies like Marvel and DC.
    EDIT: Now that I think about it, it might have been Dynamite's 2010 run. Whoops!

    Honestly I can see an adaption of the year One story as it easily explains how and why they got to that point,and then you can just do the other storys.
    Honestly I hope we get to see the Green Hornet come back on the big screen ot maby even television especially since right now were in a superhero fatigue and need something new and different,and it could be more interesting as a time peace but it can probably work in modern day too.

    The pulp figure I am most looking forward to is Doc Savage. Many of his qualities were incorporated into Superman. But I read many of the pulp Doc Savage books when I was a kid. But as for Green Hornet, my understanding is that Britt became the Green Hornet while his father was still alive, at least in the radio show. I heard a program where his father discovered Britt was the Green Hornet. One of the more interesting pieces of trivia from the crossover between Batman and Green Hornet in 1966 is that Burt Ward fought Bruce Lee to a draw. I am not sure if that could be said of any other actor. Even Chuck Norris lost! That was to Bruce Lee of course. I have no idea if Brad Pitt beating up Bruce Lee in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is based on a true event or not. But I can't recall a movie or TV fight where Bruce Lee didn't win. But maybe there is a Kung Fu or JKD scholar out there that knows more than I do.

    • @manehriimao2079
      @manehriimao2079 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That Brad Pitt fight was made up and absolutely not true. As for Robin Burt Ward, he was originally supposed to win over Bruce Lee's Kato, but, Bruce refused cause not only was he a real legit fighter, but, his character was also the much better fighter than Robin. So, they changed it to a draw and Bruce actually scared Burt by pretending that he was really about to beat him.

(1940) with Warren Hull as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet and Keye Luke again as Kato. Both serials also starred Anne Nagel as Lenore Case and Wade Boteler as Mike Axford.

    and don't forget the iconic "Hornet Sting" weapon , which to me at least is a type of sound wave sonic disruptor which projects a high pitch sound in a single direction and results in shattering or moving etc anything in its path. In the 66 tv crossover episode Batman referred to it as a " gruesome gizmo" I think its a technological marvel.

    • @tonyscheinman3538
      @tonyscheinman3538 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Hornet Sting was only used in the TV series and IMO was only created because the 60's TV action shows and films loved gadgets like that; the gas gun (which has undergone a number of changes over the years) has been around since the beginning.

    Wow, you crammed a lot of information into a short video. It was fabulous, thank you! And I learned a lot.
    I was a fan of the 1966 “Green Hornet” TV series. Although it was produced by William Dozier, it fortunately didn’t copy the tone of his “Batman” series. (I know Dozier’s opening narration by heart.) Perhaps the serious style disappointed “Batman” fans; pity it lasted only one year. But then, “Batman” lasted only two. Van Williams and Bruce Lee were magnificent!
    On a side note: track down a rendition of the TV theme performed by Tero Lindberg, a trumpeter from Finland. Simply wonderful!
    I’m glad you treated Seth Rogen’s film with the contempt it deserves. To this day, it makes me furious - alongside Disney’s “Lone Ranger” fiasco. I never found Rogen appealing as a comedian; as a superhero, forget it!

      Originally Kato was Japanese, but when WWII came around the nationality was changed in the radio series to Filipino (in one of the 1990's comic book series, he reveals that Britt officially listed him as Filipino in order to protect him from internment). In the 1940's movie serials, he said he was Korean. I don't recall seeing/hearing anywhere that he was supposed to be Vietnamese.

      I like the radio series best. You can find episodes of it online, or on the Sirius XM Radio Classics channel.

    Fun Fact: Adam West had extra padding in this cowl and crotch, and had extra insurance placed on him before Bruce hit the set for the cross-over. When asked if Burt Ward did the same, West’s reply was “F-him.”

      Wow, that's very hilarious and yeah, having a fight scene with Bruce Lee would be terrifying. The story of Bruce scaring Burt during their fight scene is equally hilarious. Also really love your 1940s Green Hornet profile picture cause I love those series as well.

    I hope you will also make a video called 'History of the Spirit' by Will Eisner.
