  • Why does my car's oil pressure light flash while I'm driving? Welcome to Mercie J, where compassion and craftsmanship come together, I'm Rick Smith.
Now first of all I want to make sure that we're talking about the correct light. There's a light that looks like a little oil can or Genie lamp that you would rub. That's your oil pressure light.
If that light comes on, shut the car off because it either indicates that you've lost oil pressure or it thinks you've lost oil pressure. Oil pressure is like if you lose blood pressure, you aren’t going to live very long and neither is your engine. So if that light is on, it thinks that you do not have oil pressure or if it's flashing, the same thing. Now sometimes it's an electrical problem and the lights are not accurate. Sometimes it’s because you’ve run out of oil or something like that.
So it's a very serious light that you can't mess with because it can do $10,000 worth of damage in a heartbeat. So I hope this has been informational for you and until next time, safe travels and blessings to you.

I owned a 1994 Yamaha FZR 1000 motorcycle. Bought used w/ 3k miles. While on a road with a fairly steep incline, the oil 'level light' would come on. Put bike on level surface, oil was at the top line on the window. So I started adding about 2 oz more oil when I changed it. Light never came on again! Sold bike with almost 100k miles. All those years never used a drop of oil, and adding the extra oil caused no harm. The bike had a oil level light, not oil pressure.
