When I started playing Subnautica, THIS is the kind of awe-inspiringly terrifying scale I wanted at least one of the creatures. Don’t get me wrong the sea dragons are pretty incredible, and the reapers and ghosts are absolutely terrifying, but there’s nothing that quite touches this level. MASSIVE props to the mod team, can’t wait to see where this project goes

I love the little PDA additions, like “Warning: Passive bio scan is limited to 500 meters in any direction.” They just add terror. This thing can’t be scanned by the machine that scans entire biomes due to its size.

I will say, they did a phenomenal job with the animation. It used to curl up in circles and constantly clip through it's own body but now it actually looks more realistic. That's not even mentioning the separate blinking eyes!
THIS is the scale of the deep sea creatures I wanted out of the original game. The original game is still fantastic, don't get me wrong, but I think there were some missed opportunities in terms of the sheer variety of gargantuan bonkers alien fauna they could've conceptualised. Then again, I'm sure there are a lot of programming and budgetary reasons as to why they weren't able to go that far.
For sure. Me and fiancee had but one moment of icy fear and that was when we were in one of the completely dark areas of the ocean, right next to the base we made, and as I drove deeper into the abyss a gargantuan face showed up on the screen. Fiancee clawed my arm as she and I stared in horrified silence and my hands attempted to make my character move backwards and back into the base but hitting everything in the way. Then we realized it was just a vision of someone speaking to us in the mind lol But imagine something whose head was as big as the screen had actually appeared from the depths like that? Fuck no.
The fact that the Gargantuan Leviathans grow until they die is just terrifying. And the cutscene with the Sunbeam ship getting dragged down by the Elder Garg is just terrifying since that one is bigger than the Adult one in this video

Making something large really has no effect on framerate. If you would double the size of the gargantuan that wouldn't affect the framerate at all. Giving the 3d model a higher poly count and higher texture resolution will affect performance.

@@ddddavyy8383 the landscape was different back then tho (landscape= is also how the sea bottom looked) it was way bigger and more open, kinda like a giant void
All of those incredible mods make me think of how insane the game could be if it had the same creators but also the budget of an AAA title. We could have vast areas and creatures in the ecological dead zone and new quests there in order to be able to meet that Gargantuan Leviathan and others like it. Imagine an area of the map where you will have to build on flying rocks or even old and enormous creatures without seeing the bottom. The game is already incredible and I am currently playing the first. Absolutely love it. I don't have Thalassophobia but still carrying all those rocks and plants while hearing a Leviathan close to your Cyclops or in the distance not knowing if you will make it back to base, is definitely stressful and fun.
7:15 I love how, as the Leviathan is swallowing you whole, the PDA is like: "Can you go scan this manually please? " That last shot of the Leviathan just sorta laying on the island yawning was kinda funny too.
@@TheLastBacon I have a theory that the planet itself has a leviathan inside it, after it’s reign it rested and as the planet became bigger the massive leviathan became a vital part in keeping the planet from breaking apart, the leviathan was awakened by the explosion of the Aurora giving “jormanguard” a bit of a tickle causing him to shift which makes the gargantuan leviathan awaken, though it’s not gargantuan compared to jormanguard it’s a mere spec fo sand.
I had no idea it was that massive until you compared it to the Aurora. These mod developers are insane. And I really do hope that Unknown Worlds gives them some recognition in some way.

Theory for the mod: all the ancients fled to the void when there food sources where dieing of due to the karrar bacteria. They lived of each other and possibly ghost levithions and tiny plankton. Once the bacteria faded the ancients came back to the main biomes we play in.
Imagine just swimming in the ocean and looking under you and seeing the gargantuan leviathan no matter how far you get or how fast you swim you'll never get away
Steps to take after meeting a Gargantuan Leviathan in game: 1. Shut down computer 2. Curl up in your bed 3. Cry like a ghost leviathan (BUT FR THO THAT LOOK SO GOOD I AM TERRIFIED)
the fact that the screen shakes when the Gargantuan Leviathan roars is terrifying. the thing could just swallow a PRAWN and munch on your Cyclops, and i cant imagine what it could do to the precursor base. the fact that its whole body doesn't render in the Void just proves how massive it is, consider the fact that these leviathans don't exist on Earth. I mean, i joined their discord server, and they are still working on it, last teaser from the devs being 2 months ago. They faced problems with recent subnautica update, but they didn't stop the mod and are still working on it. Hope they'll give us good news in the next day or weeks !

the fact that the screen shakes when the Gargantuan Leviathan roars is terrifying.
the thing could just swallow a PRAWN and munch on your Cyclops, and i cant imagine what it could do to the precursor base.
the fact that its whole body doesn't render in the Void just proves how massive it is, consider the fact that these leviathans don't exist on Earth. Or do they...

It's my head canon that every mod with a gargantuan Leviathan in it is because the Auara exploding and drawing its attention.
Well that's what the devs said happened and there's only 1 mod with the garg so
Ye it certainly seems to be what this mod is going for :)
I mean, i joined their discord server, and they are still working on it, last teaser from the devs being 2 months ago. They faced problems with recent subnautica update, but they didn't stop the mod and are still working on it. Hope they'll give us good news in the next day or weeks !
