Lol yes not matter where in the world or what gender for these type of competitions it never fails that the meanest person always ends up scoring others low and losing themselves
Hers was the most authentic. The others were just whitewashed versions of chow mein and that’s what they are used to. White washed ethnic food. Mr Anderson
I appreciate that Marie Lee never seems to cook to impress the others. She just cooks what she and her family likes which appeals to some and not others.
Also no Chinese family would just have chao mein for dinner. Chao mein is like rice or bread, you have it with other dishes. It doesn't have to be a whole meal.
@@zeth479 that's not true, in plenty of households they incorporate the dishes into the noodles itself by adding a lot of ingredients like what that one mom did with the carrots, string beans, prawns, etc. and making it a meal by itself
@@Roflmao6173 and for dinner there was just the chao mein and nothing else? I'm not saying that you can't add things to a chao mein, I'm just saying that I've never just had chao mein by itself for dinner growing up, ever.
Marie Lee ALWAYS cooks whatever she personally likes and whatever her family enjoys. She's genuinely a very sweet soul. Then there's Bobbi with her bubbly personality who's always fair in her judging, just like Marie. I wish I could say the same about the other two ladies.
Side eye to Carrie, legit only praised the first dish, even said she was gonna go search up the noodles and couldn't think of anything to improve other than add one more thing to jazz it up, and gave a 6/10 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨 THAT DON'T EVEN ADD UP
3:37 when all the moms feedback is similar, you know they’re being fair and honest. for eg, one said the noodle wasn’t bursting w flavour and another identified it as lacking soy sauce which i think is what typically gives noodles that burst. they also agreed individually on the texture of the pasta being over cooked/mushy. it’s not necessarily bad feedback, the fairness makes it quite constructive. these moms are my fav. so respectful and fair ps don’t forget the scores are based off personal preference
The issue with this series of chinese mums is that 3 of them are Hong Kong Chinese mums either born in UK or raised in UK and one is from mainland China. Mainland Chinese and HK Chinese have very different taste buds. Especially if from cities that can eat quite spicy because HK pallete is not a spicy pallete for most. With this series as well I've noticed that some mums are not actually making Chinese Food like the Japanese salmon fried rice for example. Would've expected Chinese mums to be comparing and making Chinese food and not other cuisines. That's all really
I like Bobbi and Marie Lee's personalities the most. Sauyee and Bobbi's chow mein looks the best to me, and Marie Lee's reminds me of my aunties noodles, it annoys me when people are whiny about spice lol (i used to hate spicy, but if you try a little bit, and a little bit more and more you can train yourself to get over it/adjust to spicier foods, try it friends)
@@Bih1stOfAll i live in a place where the social "norm" is to act like anything that isn't a food you grew up with is DISGUSTING, especially ethnic foods. The people around also have the tendency to rarely even attempt to try anything unfamiliar. This is a shame, cuz there are lovely foods from every culture, and multiple ways most foods can be prepared, and saying you hate something after only trying it one time, one preparation limits you. I often find people around me who seemingly hate spice, only think they do because they hated spice as CHILDREN, and haven't tried it again since their taste buds matured or changed. The lack of flexibility and open-mindedness is what bothers me, not people's actual preferences, cuz if you try it with an open mind, and hate it, that's valid. I love ALL sorts of crazy foods, but hate Deer meat. I still occasionally will sample new preparations though, to give it a chance.
I sometimes half-jokingly refer to MSG as "Cocainum Satanicum". I have little to no business eating it, but that hardly matters. Didja ever hit a bowl of farina with just a dash of MSG? Right before you put in the butter. It will roll your eyes up in your skull.
I feel like Marie Lee is the only actual Chinese mum! The others kind of sound like they were born and raised in other countries. And her noodles look so delicious, exactly the type of food that my mom would make me. I can tell from just the color and all the spices and sauces she listed that her noodles would have the most flavor. A chaomein dish isn't about the vegetables and meat, the most important thing is the noodles!
I love how typically in these videos they just rip the hell out of eachother's dishes, meanwhile here they actually give very very constructive criticism/what they'd do to improve the dishes
after she commented about Bobbi's dish being... not colorful or something, then I saw hers.... UHH YEAH RIGHT at least Bobbi has brown white and green, hers is like brown and yellow it's more mono color looking than green and brown ugh
Sauyee’s noodles definitely made me take notice. As for Carrie: overcooked ? Holy hell you can forgive a lot, but mushy chow mien is just a crime against the heart. I got mushy chow mien last week and it was so awful I fed it to the crows. And they let it sit overnight before they’d touch it. ( Aside- I had a little Cantonese speaking boy school me on the proper way to say “ chow mien “ so Marie Lee’s intro made me smile. )
Bobbi and Marie are so positive and enjoyable to watch. The other 2…Carrie just always looks uncomfortable and like she doesn’t want to be there. Sauyee comes off as downright rude sometimes. I also feel like this is unfairly biased against Marie. Marie seems like she is from northern China, whereas the other 3 seem to be more likely from southern China. These areas have very different palettes, so naturally they are going to find Marie’s food too spicy or vinegary (characteristic of a lot of Northern dishes). Just my opinion.
Bobbi and Marie Lee are so adorable and sweet. AND give very generous points too! The other two though... Yikes. Only 2s and 3s. I wanna see more of Bobbi and Marie Lee. Screw the other two.
What I like about this one is they’re just being honest of course they can be nicer but they’re not lying. I feel like with the other ones they were so obviously just hating…
All the people bashing Carrie saying the loser is always the hater, the most critical etc etc and the winner is always the most generous... Sauyee (the winner) gave a 2 and a 3 ☠️. She averaged a 4,33... The most generous in which world???
Okay. Now i think one is from the north, one from guangdong or guangxi, on from the east probably shanghai area, another is from sichuan, guizhou area.
Most British-born Chinese are from the south of China or Hong Kong. Their flavour profile is completely different from those in the north of China. Northern Chinese cuisine is packed full of flavour and spice which is probably why some of the moms weren’t used to Marie Lee’s noodles. The comment about how her dish didn’t seem “authentic” was weird. Chow mein, aka stir fried noodles, isn’t the name of a single dish - there’s a huge variety and they vary across the region, including outside of China.
I predict Carrie will win yet again....EDIT: 😅oh how i was wrong...lowest score I've seen..yikes....Sauyee's looks like chow mein we'd see at restaurants here in the states.
Man I wanted Marie to throw down since she’s so honest and nice with her others feedback. But instant noodles and no presentation? That’s meeting a low bar. Glad there was a lot of flavor to the noodles though
Tbh, based on the description of the noodles, those noodles would probably be my favorite personally. Even though they looked plain, I could tell by the caramelized brown color that it was extremely flavorful. And seems like she used black vinegar, which is my favorite condiment paired with soy-based food. I bet if the contestants had better spice tolerance, hers would at least be #2. Simple presentation with a lot of depth. She could boost it by adding scallions and fried shallots.
These four are usually the most constructive and positive bunch on this channel, and Carrie's dish got "school dinners" and effing "airlines". The way these ladies must have been disgusted TO THEIR SOULS.
Where I feel like Buzzfeed messed up here is that Chinese food differs DRASTICALLY from region to region. It seems like they put both Cantonese and Mandarin people here, and they cook very different stuff, it's hard to properly review each other.
