When amateurs do the animation

- So i originally had the video named Dreamcast like facial animation because i remember seeing a tech demo that i thought was for the Dreamcast, though it also could've been for another console at the time.

Looks like the kind of animation you'd see in the behind the scenes bonus content on the Shrek 1 DVD.
That is very specific and at the same time very accurate
“My face is tired”.
Nah, this asari's face is far from tired, actually.
Crazy how ME1 puts this to shame.
Well, ME 2 is it´s own pair of boots.
You have to understand that BIOWARE did a real CLEAN SWEEP after the worldwide financial disaster ME 1 had been for the company.
BIOWARE put a totally new crew to work bringing out the Second part with the order to reinvent MASS EFFECT.
Brian Mitsoda the original lead writer and designer had been fired because ME 1 had been NO SHOOTER but a game with Shooting Elements in it. Even the Story suffered under the changes. So was CERBERUS turned from a NEO NAZI GROUP into a more harmless Nationalistic TRUMP - like organisation with the slogan HUMANS FIRST. NO one wanted that, right
ME1 is arguably the best one in the franchise. What are you talking about?
@@dudedude315 to be fair I have seen worse animations than this in the original ME games
@@thefuturefalcon762 I guess so
ME2 is best it combines both good qualities of mass effect 1 and 3 together
Combat, Graphics, and more Romance options from ME3
And
Loyalty missions, open worlds, and encounters from ME1
Wow, the VI looks so advanced in Andromeda.
I played ME3 for the first time recently, and MANY of the animations look janky as hell, way more than I remember (although maybe things were less advanced when ME2 came out so that distorts my impression). Still, nothing quite this bad.
Oh definitely.
For some reason despite other technology being available, Bioware used the old computer animation of click, drag, and move, meaning they had to draw, move, twist and turn every little moment their characters in the game had to make when ever they spoke or moved and that always looks a bit clanky.
Dude just started mass effect 3 today and I was hit in the face with with how weird Shepard's face animations were
thats why you play me1 and pretend its the only game in the series. 2 3 and andromeda are trash unilatirally. but 1 can be excused as its decent gameplay wise, even if its 16 years old
lol go home troll no ones buying that statement.@@misterturkturkle
This is what happens when you FORCE your dev team to switch to a different engine all because it's the "in-house company engine" you're trying to make a thing, despite said engine not being as fleshed out or developed as the one they had been using...and if reports are to believed it wasn't even suitable for the type of game ME:A was.
Granted, the game had other issues, even outside animations, whoever the voice director was was almost certainly asleep or not doing their bloody job to get some of the takes we end up hearing in the game.
Are you confusing it with Anthem or did they make the same mistake twice?: putting RPG mechanics into an engine meant for FPS.
@@GrandSupremeDaddyo EA forced Frostbite on basically everybody - the Star Wars games use it too.
Hey don't be mean to the voice director, their face was just really tired ok
Andromeda was an absolute JOY in combat, but the rest was just below the maximum curvature of the uncanny valley where it was just off enough that you questioned what you were seeing. That or going full skibiddy toilet doing its best Ohio impression.
It's because this game was basically cobbled together in a year and a half using an engine that's made for first person shooters and sports games. The animations here are all procedural rather than hand-animated or mocapped.
A lot of people like to talk about the issues with the game but never really acknowledge how all of those are symptoms of the true villain here: major crunch time. Andromeda spent so much time in development Hell that they only had 18 months to make a game when actual development for AAA titles take 3-7 years.
Frostbite was also used for Dragon Age Inquisiton and the facial animations weren't that bad compared to Andromeda, just if you employ beginners you get a beginner result
Bioware really fumbled with andromeda
Sadly.
@@Terasbulba96 it honestly had potential then they just
@@christianfranck1818 They screwed it up.
@@Terasbulba96 very
Fumbled is being generous. They took a shit in the doghouse and lit the whole thing on fire.
The facial animation itself is bad. But what really pushes it into ungodly horrible uncanny valley territory is the rest of their body being stiff as a board on top of that.
I mean EA had almost always bad facial animations this is not an isolated case in the slightest. Even titles like Jedi survivor or the previous fallen order have incredibly weird facial animations that fall into uncanny valley territory. Another example is funnily enough Is Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the new one) which has some of the weirdest renditions of known aliens that i’ve seen because their face looks again super weird. It has to be some kind of EA thing since it is present in almost everything EA touches.
it's a great game for someone who's never played mass effect before, not knowing how epic the game was
Or you take it as a smaller budget Gaiden game. Like, AA/A instead of AAA. You can get it at those prices these days, too! That's how I did it and I had plenty of fun. I may go back to it once I finish the Legendary Edition .
As someone who played Andromeda first, I can confirm. Looking back at it after playing ME1-3, Andromeda is just not good.
@@GremlinsRage Same here. I went from "Okay that was a pretty cool story" to "Mother of God, the reapers are coming, why won't any of you listen to me."
Welp, that settles it, there’s nooooooo f*cking way I’m getting andromeda now
XD
Trust me, the facial animations are the least of the games problems.
@@friendlyreaper9012 they patched it a lot, give it another try!
I tried to give it a chance I just couldn't do it I beat the game and felt no joy from it all I could do was laugh at the terrible animations and the ridiculous plot.
I hated the lack of expression most.
If I had to sum up the hates:
1: Facial expressions or lack there of.
2: Tedious story campaign that's too short.
3: The endless fetch quest filler content.
4: The same 'plot', i.e. a strange race ensalving others and turning them into their own kind and army. It was fantastic for the Trilogy, but we needed something new for a new story arc.
5: The 'I was bored' backstory for every NPC you talk to.
There are some people who are saying that ME: Andromeda gets too much hate. I think it doesn't get enough. Nevermind the facial animations, the fact that everybody looks so ugly is enough for me to hate this game.
Why the asari all suddenly have one face shape that looks nothing like any asari previously seen mystifies me.
@@fadedjemtbh what they did to the turians is even worse imo. Their design was awesome, in MEA they look like shit
Wait a few years and people will start calling anything underrated.
@@anneshepardkrogan lipstick lips
@@fadedjem im not kidding they switched the models from being based on white women to those based on black women in an effort to "combat eurocenticism"
It makes it look much worse simply because the head doesn't move at all.
This looks like Gaither's Pond in space; without the soul!
Actually this is an improvement. now the aliens looks more alien and less human.
Every asari in the game besides peebee have the same face as well
dreamcast facial animation is only good for the dreamcast
That's that Sonic Adventure 1 right there
At least that had charm haha
Tbh I'd rather put up with Big the Katt than Andromeda
That's an insult to dreamcast. It gave us games like RE Code Veronica. They knew how to do facial animations back then.
really the good thing about Andromeda is the possibility to romance Vetra damn
This looks like behind the scenes footage talking about how faces & heads are animated independently.
Look, I'll always make fun of the "point at you, then me, then you" that got used too much and the "conversation over, rotate 90° and walk off screen" but that's nothing compared to this
This piece of shit makes Mass Effect 3 look like a masterpiece
Never wanted to play Andromeda...
And that's fine.
That's not amateur animation. That's just letting the computer generate lip sync automatically. There was NO EFFORT lol
What are you talking about? She’s got plenty of facial animation. Sure, it’s all concentrated in the lower half, but it all balances out, right?
And this upcoming triples AAA company is why you shouldn't outsource facial capture, because this is the result.
Even KOTOR 1 had better facial animations and that's a game where characters don't show a mix of emotions very often
I agree, although Kotor 1 is still one of the greatest games ever made despite that.
She reminds me of that pirate painting with a moving mouth from the Spongebob intro.
She looks like she having a allergic reaction and her face is swelling up😂
Looks like every Starfield character.
The janky animations and glitches in this game is part of why I love it so much. My favorite moment was during Liam's loyalty mission when the second the cutscene ended and the game started, Liam blasted off like Poochie returning to his homeplanet and I have never laughed at a game bug harder than I did that day because that was the last thing I ever expected to see.
I'm also genuinely sad they patched the janky running animation because it looked so bad that I actually felt pure joy when I saw it.
And here I thought Miranda was a bad character because she mostly doesn’t change her facial expression
wow ,Asari in ME:Andromeda looks really bad
This came out in 2017, surely it can't STILL look like that now?
It doesn’t, the animation has improved a little bit but it could still use a lot of work
What is that emotion
Strong and weaker points to each game, but from my experience, Mass Effect 3 has lifelier facial expressions than I have the feeling ME:A had. I did enjoy all games ibcluding ME:A a lot!
Don't hate Andromeda as much other do but will say this lot will agree Andromeda made mass effect 3 look better
Mass Effect 3 is WAAAAAY better, it just the ending that sucks balls.
@@Terasbulba96 that my point trying make back when Mass 3 came out it was hated on caused of the ending sucks remember their were lot angry gamers trashing me3 for it ending but when Andromeda happened seem like lot gamers forgave the bad ending trash on Andromeda instead
Bruh, I don't get the hate about ME3 at all. It's your opinion, but I thought it was great. Sure some things could have been better but I enjoyed every second of what we got. Same for Dragon Age 2.
@@GG-mz7obMy bother wasn't the ending itself, the three choices were a hard thing to make like the easy choice of who to leave on Vermire. But I wanted closure. There needed to be a few scenes with the crew and the love interest with Shep. As I always Destroy, I wanted a scene with Shep being visited in the Hospital or some shit further on with a cybernetic arm or at least some battle scars. Maybe see those little blue children.
@@agama5538 I don't hate me3 it just what I seen on TH-cam and my friends played me3 so don't get it either and I loved dragon age 2 my favorite da game but every time said to someone they think I weird call game trash worse dragon age game ever
I bought mine from a dollar store literally lol its fun but for nearly 10 years of supposedly work they ea fucking lazy work still better then saints row 2022
I won't stand for this slander. Sonic Adventure had better facial animation than this.
Maybe byuing andromeda wqs a mistake, even if it was on sale
even pirating it is a mistake
More like when amateurs make a game.
I absolutely DO NOT want my ME memory tarnished, so Andromeda doesnt exist for me .
Will never play it
Nothing wrong with that.
Good call, trust me, i been in this shit
Up to the end of the first planet (basically tutorial mission), it has more good than bad. If u could handle stopping there, then I would recommend trying the game. Basically its the Eden Prime mission.
@@No._6 Don't be an animal, the game sucks, don't waste this person's time luring them into the depths of disappointment.
@@Andriy_Sklyar It's only "the depths" if they play past the beginning. The beginning was alright with that stormy planet. It was all downhill with the discovery of the nexus/citadel and everything else after. A demo probably has it all
Lmaooooo
Oh god I see it now.
I never noticed it.
What the fuck is wrong with them?
Blame frostbite
This isn't Dreamcast animation
Look at Claire in Code Veronica, way better and more expressive 3D model
Let's see, although the story is not AS bad as they say, the animations even today and with community patches that fix many things, it is still shit, as it was 2010-2015 was the revolution of tracking face in games and they made Horrendous things, it's like the cold war, thanks to those sacrifices today we don't have to suffer this anymore...
or not? lmao
Ngl I loved Andromeda, they tried something different and it worked in some ways and didn’t in other ways. I still had fun plus the establishment of colonies mechanic was very cool
What colony mechanic?
I'd hardly call the cyro pods a colony and the bases aren't a mechanic.
I dont get it.
trash facial animation
You might be too young to have never played on a Dreamcast then sadly my friend
I still don't get the hate. That alien's facial movements were incredible.
As well as the Salarian's.
Well Mass effect : Andromeda kind of dose get too much hate see what people are complaining Has nothing to do with the problems of the game. What I mainly keep hearing of their complaints It's about it's open worldsetting When The fact is. that had nothing to do with the problem About mass effect Andromeda.. when reality.
It wasn't too long ago when they were complaining that mass effect 2 and 3 was too lenier.
As far as my concern, in my opinion, mass effect, : Andromeda is perfect. Yes, it's got its flaws, I'll completely agree. The facial animations bad, the dialogue is bad. The script Writing is bad and the acting is bad.
Because it sounds like somebody's reading it off the script paper. And not even trying
It doesn't give you enough time to see the character development or emotions. And so we become less attached to it. Because there's no sadness like when rider dad Passed away..
Saving his son.
But despiding those flaws mass effect, : Andromeda is perfect. A new fresh start And new intake and a new, fresh atmosphere for mass effect series. I think it did a good job there.
People wanna compare the legendary edition. That came out in 2021 to this game that came out 2017.
When mass effect, the : Andromeda had the very same issues. The Original mass effect, 1 and 2 , and 3.
They had a lot of graphic problems and animation problems.
Mass effect, : Andromeda
Is just a game that should have went through a little bit more development before they released it.
I'm mean Miranda, is a good And one of the example of this.
Facial animation problems.
To me, mass effect : Andromeda open world style Atmosphere And new intake and new story and and a new fresh start in mass effect. is perfect and its exactly what I was looking for.
See, there's a lot of other problems like there was a lot of potential like new species Or new planets or more exploration More parts of the galaxy.
That we didn't get to see much of.
That was the same Exact problems in The original mass effect. 1 and 2 and 3.
But as far as it comes, With my own experience with this game. this game is nearly perfect with flaws.
It's got high potential, it just wasn't been given the chance to show it.
Probably because it was too rushed..
If mass effect 5 came out, I hope it has a very similar Open world setting to mass effect,: Andromeda And very similar mechanics. To mass effect : Andromeda Cause I'll never forget those jet Boost. That was fun. Get to walk on, and stand on mountains and Jumping to mountain To mountain jumping from tall cliff down to a The bottom of it without dying that was fun.
Go places that normally shepherd in mass effect 1 2 3 could never go. Weather because of the obstacles That was in the way or edges. Or just Simply because The game Wouldn't let you . Or Simply the boundaries won't let you..
There's a lot of good that I can't fit in one comment about mass effect Andromeda
I aint reading allat
@pablochavez681 😐 If you're that interested Take your time once you read all of it. Then you'll understand my point of view of mass effect : Andromeda,😅
Remember It was released on 2017 , not 2021 When the remastered trilogy came out. They're completely different than the once in 2017. If I'm not correct with the sources I have found With Different animators and graphic designers? And scripped artist. Different engines being used in the game That failed : Andromeda. but Anyway that's up to you.
Read it or not
Nobody's gonna force you to read all that. It's up to your choice. 😏
almost as bad as the last of us
Last of Us has arguably the best character animations ever seen in a video game lmao
AI moment
Gonna crash AAH
