    Just got my Scrambler 400X in Carnival Red a little over a month ago, and I haven't stopped smiling since. Not the fastest, not the loudest, not the most powerful, but I think Triumph have nailed the riding experience more than any other brand in this segment!

    I finally got to see one of these bikes in person yesterday at a local dealer, having only first heard of the bike just two weeks ago (with all the videos that show up in my recommended videos, I'm not sure why it didn't show up, or how I would've missed it). Anyway, I pretty much knew from first sight that I would be getting one (in green), even though I haven't test ridden it yet. As soon as I sell one of the four motorcycles currently in my single car garage (it's one of two KLRs), I will be getting the 400X. I just turned 53, have been riding since 2012, I don't care about going fast, so this would be a wonderful bike (as would a few others, if I had the storage space). Can't wait to get one.

    Have a 2020 900SS, a 2022 1200XE and just added a 2024 400X… beautiful bike… super light and quick… new rider will learn to shift as you will shift a lot…

      I'm so close to buying one. Do you think it's something you'd do any touring on? Like, maybe a week-long tour, mostly roads but some light offroading... Maybe 1500 miles total? That's kinda what I'm looking to do. I have the T120 and it'd be perfect for me touring if sticking to tarmac but looking for something for the times I want to explore dirt roads and such in addition to country roads...

    • @da72ma
      @da72ma 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BugMotoChannel I would do some serious touring on my 900 and 1200 but not a weeklong trip on the 400… the 400 shines on day trips around and maybe a little more… where I would take the 1200 over the 900 is for the two-up touring… where I would take the 400 over the other ones is the grocery store run or everything around town… my ultimate opinion and take it for what it is worth: I really like the 1200XE and the 400X but I will never sell the 900SS… let me know if you wanna know more

    Great review! At 53, I am one of those «older» drivers who wants an easier-to-handle city bike which gives you a fun ride for commuting and leisure, while still providing the opportunity for short touring. I tried it at my dealership and walked out with a contract for the Speed 400.

      @@BugMotoChannel it’s great. So easy to handle on busy city streets, and no problems cruising at 100km on the highway. I’m very happy with the Speed 400. I struggle with muscle pain and fatigue, so my old Tracer 900 felt slightly too big at times. The 400 is just the perfect size.

    I feel these two 400’s will win new bike of the year. I just bought a new KLR650. Then my best friend said hey I just put my deposit down on the Triumph Speed 400. I said a WHAT?? Having owned two Bonnevilles I said what the heck is a Speed 400? Then I got researching. NOW I’m sorry I bought the KLR instead of the 400. lol. Great bike. Perfect real world fun machine. My friend is 64 and I’m 65. So yes 5 stars for more mature riders. Btw we both have over 50 years riding experience so a great bike for experienced riders who know what they need. Thanks Bug.

      @@BugMotoChannel I’ll let you know how it compares to the Speed 400 or scrambler. My friend is anxiously awaiting delivery of his Speed 400. Based on what I’ve seen in terms of reviews, I’d say for pure fun I’d go with the Triumph. On paper it amazes me that the KLR 650 has 39 HP as does the 400cc triumph. That’s impressive. Power to weight ratio would suggest that the triumph is a better performer. I’ll let you know.

      @@BugMotoChannel I have one you can try if you ever make it to Coos Bay. I have a 2005 (gen 1). Great bike, I've had it for about 9 years now. I'm thinking about selling it though, as I'm 75 now, and have four bikes in the garage, the KLR doesn't see much ride time. Other bikes include a 2021 MT-09, and a 2009 Moto Guzzi Stelvio. This is my sixth Guzzi in 60 years of riding. I appreciate your videos.

    I get my speed 400 on June the first and I can't wait. I'm getting on a bit, I'm 63 now, and want something that is light but capable of doing the twisties, some motorway riding and commuting. Getting a bike that weighs 170kg in and out of my back yard is a lot easier than 200kg plus and I don,t need 100hp or more. I wanted the red one but they only had black left which was my second choice. I'm thinking of calling it "Tin Lizzy" because I could have any colour as long as its black.

    Love this video and your candour throughout. I agree with your assessment totally, I was looking at the scrambler 400 X or the speed 400.
    It came down to 2 things for me. One my height, I’m 5’9 and was I wasn’t necessarily flatfoot with the speed 400, I was on the balls of my feet. When I got onto the scrambler, I was definitely tip towing. As a first-time rider on a motorcycle, worrying about dropping the bike or fine motor skill Manouvers worried me a bit.
    Secondly, what type of riding would I be doing and if I compare it to my standard family vehicle, the one time I had a four-wheel-drive, I took it off road three times in 10 years. That informed me of what kind of riding experience I would typically expect to be on.
    I agree with the gearing is very close together, but I understand the principle of getting 40 hp through the chain to the road as quickly as you need it. I can be in fourth or fifth gear and put the throttle in and get immediate power.
    Great first bike option for someone new (like me) or as you stated, a returning motorcyclist that doesn’t wanna have to deal with a lot of weight; at 175 kg it is pretty lite.
    So why did you choose the Scrambler 900? I think I know why. Why would you suggest if asked, for someone to select the 400 over the 900?

  • @BIBuildy

    Based on many reviews (and especially this one) I just bought a red Scrambler 400x. Like others have said, the OTD price was ridiculous once they added all the fees and taxes, but I paid it anyway. I should have it in about a week. As I'm aging, bikes that were manageable just a few years ago are now becoming too much for me. This 400x will be a welcome addition (so much lighter) as I sell off the bikes that don't work for me anymore.

    Fantastic video. Love your chat and your opinion on the bikes as you’re riding them.
    I bought a 2024 Tiger 900 Rally Pro back in June and love it. It’s an incredible machine.
    I’m going to buy a second bike as something totally different to the Tiger.
    I’m
    99% sure I’m going to buy the 400x.
    I love Triumph as a brand.
    If I can find a test drive I might try the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 but o tho o my heart wants two Triumph’s in the garage. Why not 👊🤙💥

    Yeah. I got the cruise installed on my 2020 T120. I just took it in to the dealer and had them do it. It was a little pricey. I think the switch cluster was $400+, and then a hour or two of labor, so about $600 all in. Very happy I did it. It's going to be hard to go back to a bike without it.
    BTW, I bet it's cheaper to get the cruise installed than it would be to get the center stand installed, which the 2021 and up models don't come with.

    • @fizzyridertoo
      @fizzyridertoo 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can install the centre stand yourself. I've done two; one on a Street Twin and one on my wife's T120. Very easy job that's not worth going to the dealer for.

    • @operator0
      @operator0 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fizzyridertoo Sure, and I've decated mine. But let me say, if I could have paid a shop to do it, I would have, but the three I checked with wouldn't do it. I have a bad back, and the process of decating the thing was not fun, and caused me a day of work. I was still feeling it for a week. I'm not going to go through that just to add a center stand. I'll gladly pay the money instead.
      I stopped working on cars about 15 years ago because the risk of throwing my back out just got too high. I make enough money to pay someone else to do it, and I'm a lot happier for it.

    Wanted to trade my TIger 900 RP for something lightweight. Intended to get a Trident, but planned test ride with 400X out of curiosity too. Did the same tour on both. First the 400 and was grinning all the way. Then the Trident and it felt boring, although it is a great bike. Not that it has to be boring, but for the type of riding I do it is. So ordered a 400x and took it home a week later. I almost never do highways, I do think the 400s are a bit lacking to do that in a comfortable way.

    Great video yet again!!! I currently own a 2020 1200 Speed and looking for an addition of a more city/commuter type bike. If you had to choose between your Vespa GTS300 or the Triumph 400 with luggage which way would you go??

    • @BugMotoChannel
      @BugMotoChannel  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Wow. This is a really tough question...
      I'd choose the Vespa since, like you, I have a 1200 (T120). The Vespa is absolutely perfect for city/commuting in a way I don't think any other bike is capable. That's not to say you couldn't or shouldn't commute on a 400. It'd be almost nearly as perfect. But for me, I love scooters, I love how agile it is and, much as I love shifting, it's nice not to have to shift when you're in city traffic.
      If I could have ONLY ONE bike in my garage.. I'd be tempted to go with the Scrambler 400.
