Die young, as late as possible. Sharing my passion for motorcycling, and inspiring folks to ride. I put a particular emphasis on the older rider, since I think we're underrepresented on TH-cam, but BugMoto is for everyone who enjoys calm, non-revenue-driven, inspiring and introspective motorcycle content. I'm not here to sell you anything except the pure joy of riding a motorcycle.
I ride a 2024 Triumph Scrambler 900 and a 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
I've owned a 2017 Triumph T120 Black, a Suzuki GS500e, and a Honda CX500. I've also owned a a 2023 Vespa GTS, a Piaggio Liberty 150, and a couple of mopeds.
My name is Dan but I go by Bug. I live in Portland, OR. I'm an expert in only one thing: my own happiness.
For more info, or just to say hi, email: dan@bugmo.to
Note to potential sponsors/partners: I DON'T DO dedicated product reviews but I'm happy to talk about and feature products that I truly believe in as part of my videos. Go to bugmo.to for more info.

Motorcycles Keep Our Minds Young
As older motorcycle riders, we're all too aware that time is precious. But what we do with that time is the thing that determines how we leave this world. "The idea is to die young as late as possible."
This is a quote from a British-American anthropologist named Ashley Montagu, and it summarizes nicely how I live my life lately, both on the bike and off.
Note: I don't say this enough, but, when I say 'older rider' I don't mean 'old.' I consider myself older, but not old, and I think that's an important distinction. I know people in their 80s that I don't consider old...

Older Motorcycle Rider Searches for an Abandoned Boat, Finds His Knife
มุมมอง 2.2Kวันที่ผ่านมา
As an older rider, I probably wouldn’t have left the house on Sunday, given my mood, the weather, and so on. In the process, I found something I lost - a ridiculous little thing that has a lot of value to me… This is a pointless little adventure that I h...

Another nice video and thoughts ... I feel the same every time I ride my commuting RE classic 350 every day from home to work and all the way back plus riding my T120 in twist road in the weekends ... It transports me back like 10 years .... what a feeling !! It´s the best legal drug when you can take !! ..... I rode many bike for many years but for a lot of reasons, at some point, I kept away from the saddle for 12 years ..... I suffered the last years fom depression and take all these shitty drugs ... decided that I was not a depressing person to keep taking those... I bought two bikes and left the pills .... wow .... the greatest decision in my life ... I´m strong and happy again ,,,,
Cool video, thank brother
“Age is a question of mentality. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” - Mark Twain
Did a solo trip from New Mexico to Alaska in '81 totally unplanned, just made it up day to day. Best decision I ever made. Don't wait to be ready just go. I agree that it's a lot easier to meet folks going solo. Have made several trips back and forth by myself and with company, but that first trip was the best. I recommend the ferry system at least one way if you are going round trip. The coast is so different from the road system and time to meet folks on the poor boy's cruise ship.
I have a different perspective about drivers in general. I tend to agree some drivers are bad. I myself have been a motorcyclist for 52 years injury and accident free not so much as a scratch on a bike and I average about 12,000 miles per year. Is my success an anomaly? I think not, it comes down to mindset and training. I simply treat my motorcycle like a pilot treats an airplane. I never take unnecessary risks and I ride well within my training. Which brings up another point training, get some and constantly look for ways to improve everything about your cycling career. A seasoned rider many decades ago go told me never to get emotionally involved with another road user and that turned out to be the best advice ever. distracted driving is nothing new. It started when we put the first horse in front of a cart. It’s too easy to blame everyone else for how things shake out on the road. I feel safer on my motorcycle than I do in my car sometimes because I’m so engaged in the process. Riding a motorcycle requires 100% of your attention and it’s exhilarating.
McNamee is one of the most popular roads in town! Sometimes the tarmac isn’t great, but the pros still outweigh the cons. It makes for a nice little loop with Skyline and Newberry. Great video!
Dang man. Very cool video. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Star, star, star, star and star day!

Exactly!
I'm with this guy pushing 72 next month and still riding. Yes it keeps you young !
Well said, was 80 last month, I’m blessed with good health and average 800-1000 miles a month riding the 2 lane blacktop of East Tennessee. Been riding 50 years, will continue till physically unable. OLD NOT DEAD
I couldn't agree more! I'm 20 on my bike. I am actually 75. This video makes me happy. Thank you so much!
Thank you! I'm 68 and sold my last bike 20 years ago, a Honda V65 crotch rocket. Now that I'm retired, I'm seriously considering a cruiser so I took the basic rider course at HD just to check myself, and man, I've missed it! Thanks for the info and tips. Remember, rubber side down!

I'm 67 now and been riding over 40 years and it never gets old. It's good for your soul. I always come back home in a better mood.
I am a fellow Portlander and you make many good points. Motorcycling definitely keeps one on the young side of the equation. Great video!
Hello from Brazil, 59 and just home from a one day 620km trip to introduce me and my new BMW F800 GS. Beautifull images you bring to us, thanks!!!!
If that's the coolest thing you've seen, you need to get out more. Ride that thing to hwy 12 in Utah, and you'll see some cool shit. Maybe wander over to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and you'll see some more cool shit. After that roll over to the million dollar hwy in Colorado and you'll see some more cool shit. Just saying... 😊
BugMoto speaks truth! Motorcycling is completely cathartic, a joy to the soul and a wonderful communion with the God of the universe. Even a brief ride down the highway can change my day. I don't want to be the oldest guy in the nursing home. The risk of riding is totally outweighed by the reward of riding. Riding on a planet that is traveling 515,000 mph thru the Milky Way, revolving around a Sun at 67,000 mph and spinning on it axis at 1000 mph while I cruise across the Earth's surface at 75 mph is a miracle of physics written by the hand of God into the code of the cosmos and as close to heaven as I am going to get! And, if I go to meet God along that glorious ride on any given day, then I will ride into the arms of Jesus' knowing that I got there via my Harley Road Glide, my BMW K1200GT or my Honda Africa Adventure bike and not via some damn wheel chair! Ride on, Brother BugMoto! Stir the desire for manly adventure back into the souls of American men!
Ya BugMoto all you said is true...now @ 83 yers old I'm still on the gas going faster than the crash. I ride the road and also rode to just ride, but riding the road is not as much fun as off road riding, but road riding has its perks from off road riding that I just rode, if your a motorcycle rider that's ridden roads and off roads you will know what a road/off road rider is riding when you see what's being ridden. Good message here. Thanks. @jrdepew
Love your presentation!
I'm with you about sometimes just going out for a ride to do some (otherwise) dumb stuff. Seems to remind me of when I was young and rode "just because." I had fewer concerns and found it easy to just enjoy the experience. Seems that brings me back to much the same today. Fun to find a lost knife!
I've wanted to ride for the past 3 years or so but I finally decided I wouldn't just keep thinking and wanting, I would do something about it, so at 53 I completed my MSF course last month with the plan that I would use the holiday season to buy gear and possibly a bike if the prices were right after New Years. Bought a new gloves, boots and jacket this past weekend and my wife bought me a new helmet as an early Christmas gift. Just need to get pants and i'm gear set. My only concern now is if I should pull the trigger on a bike now or wait until after the 2025 models hit the floors and 2024's are marked down with incentives. I admit the prospect of tariffs jacking up prices next year has me a little worried that waiting might cost me more money instead of saving anything, but I will at least wait until this bomb cyclone stops beating us up on the Oregon coast before I make my decision. I do not relish the idea of trying to ride back through the mountains from Portland right now as a first time rider.
Brilliant, simply brilliant! Thank you for all you share, it really makes a difference to all those who watch! 👍👍
Road from VA to California last may. I’m in my mid 60’s, the friend I rode with is 70. Enjoyed every minute. Well maybe wasn’t so thrilled to ride through a few inches of snow in Wolfs Creeks pass, in Colorado. But had a great biking story to tell!
Never, ever see a motorcycle in a therapist parking lot!
I raced motorcross from a young age and bought my first street bike (86 vfr 700) I loved it and I loved riding. Life happened with family and career and I stopped riding. Now I'm 55 and I feel the itch again and I can't wait
They say "you'll never see a motorcycle outside a therapist's office". Well, unless you're the therapist, is my response. That's right, my bike is this therapist's therapist. Sometimes just taking a short ride in the PNW during winter is as much, if not more, of an adventure as the ride I took to the Arctic Ocean and back on my bike. Love your videos and your outlook. Thanks for sharing. Might see you out there.
100 % mate. The best anti depressant ever invented….
Fuck sake, brother, where's the fire?!?! Slow down some and look around. You're missing shit along the way.
When I was a kid in the 70s, my first few years of driving were so much fun. Cars were fun. The thrill of going fast down empty roads at 2:00AM was replaced with maturity and common sense (I thought). Driving became meh. I got my first bike 2 years ago. Surprisingly, again, I am once again an immature rider with no common sense sometimes, if no one can catch me. But now I realize how fragile life is; we're not invincible. But God, Zen, whatever, you feel so alive. Thrills aren't just for kids. It's not thrilling because you are young, it's thrilling because it is thrilling. The novel experience keeps giving with a long learning curve, where experience from the last ride, hands you even more pleasure to the next ride from the skills leaned from the last. The thrill makes you feel like a KID again. You don't even have to break the law, because, you know, you would never do that, right? ;)
Great new 'bike but that would be too much tech for me, and maybe also too much to go wrong sometime? And maybe all that info on the screen would take your eyes off the road? A great riding machine I'm sure but I'd never want a quickshifter for example, heated grips yes! I'm happy with my "simple" '79 Guzzi SP1000 and my 2018 Triumph Street Scrambler. I understand how you would choose the 900 Tiger for your trip though, I'd probably pick it for that too.
We do a 10 day ride every other year. Grab Life Crew. 4 bikes 6 of us. We plan a direction and 1st nights lodging. Then take each day as it comes.. all I want to do is wander around the country
Looking forward to following you on your trip 👍Do what you have to do to make it work for you, I think you'll be successful, stay safe, great channel
How cool. Love your videos. If I had my way. 2025 I'd be wandering around this country all summer long. I'll start with trying to get to the Forgotten Angeles camp out in Florida in March.
I've been watching and enjoying a few of your videos recently, and have enjoyed watching them all, and listening to your thoughts and rambles. Subscribed and "liked", keep them coming and keep staying young! (I'm a young 70, and have been riding since I was 17) 🙂
Ha !!! All too true, I turned 76 last week & picked up my 2nd bike on Saturday, a Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 & love it, it is company for my RE Himalayan…. I think all older bikers get this concept. In my quite complicated older life, motorcycling has remained that one outlet specifically for re-energizing my body and mind. For many years my wife and I rode together and shared the same rewards. Due to health issues she can no longer participate. We struggle to find her an alternative while I ride on. I must admit that a large part of me struggles to keep riding alone. She insists that I do because she knows the benefits. She bought me my last bike so I guess she has more than a vested interest. I'll bugger down the road until I know it's time to stop. I kind of know in my heart that my wife wishes it to be sooner than later.
I am 85 and I still ride, it is the best part of the day when I am on the back of a motorcycle moving.
Now im older i go faster and further
Like your view of life . I identify. 👍🏻
Thank you for videos that never fail to make me feel better!
I'm so glad! Thank you.
