Harold Faltermeyer's music score is fantastic. The title track "Axel F" became a worldwide hit. The soundtrack is also a great mix of bops. Classic in every way.
Number one on billboard charts for 2 weeks i think. plus number one for the heat is on. not for getting Pattie labels 2 songs topped the R AN B AN SOUL CHARTS.
This era of soundtracks... man... it was such a great time for bad movies. Lots of mediocre movies made lots of money based on the strength of their soundtracks alone.
Eddie laughed at the guys in the leather outfits not because it was Michael Jackson thriller jackets but because Eddie wore those outfits in his stand up comedies, Delirious and Raw.
"Axel F" is the name of the theme and it is Foley's theme. The variation of it in the warehouse scene where Axel and Jenny got caught is called "The Discovery." The Thriller jackets were a popular thing that year. They had lots of zippers with no pockets. Even kids in elementary school wore them. This movie came at the perfect time in 1984. It is one of the definitive years of the decade and one with multiple major movies and new hit shows. "Miami Vice" had just premiered, which is somewhat of a companion to this movie with the pop music (just as MTV had become mainstream), glitzy style, machine guns and cocaine smuggling. Beverly Hills use to be synonymous with rich excess back when only the wealthy and the celebrities shopped at places like Gucci.
This movie reminds me of my childhood. The black gentleman who played Todd, Eddie Murphy's boss, was a real life cop in Detroit. He went into politics as a Detroit city councilman. He was also allegedly somehow involved in a scandal involving the infamous White Boy Rick case when he was a cop. He never faced charges on that though because no solid proof. Saw it in a documentary.
So glad you two watched this classic, my dad has told me stories about when they were filming scenes in downtown detroit during the 80’s he actually got to meet Eddie Murphy and a few other cast members.
I was 10 years old when this movie came out. And the Beverly Hills Cop soundrack was like THE soundtrack to have at parties. I love this movie And yes, it was the Thriller jacket, that's why he's laughing (because of the hotel thing)

When he visits his "sister" to tell her that their "brother" is dead, I get choked up because of Eddie's delivery. The aspect of this movie that I love is that instead of Axel having to fight the bad guy and the local police the whole movie, he actually becomes friends with Taggart, Rosewood, Bogomil, and they help him out.
The Beverly Cop series are absolute classics. I liked #2 better than the first. Again, very hard for a sequel to be better than the original. You guys will enjoy that. The "assistant" at the art store who can't pronounce Axel's name is actually Bronson Pinchot who plays Balki Bartokomous in the TV show Perfect Stangers, where he co-starred and it ran for 8 seasons. Very well known back in the day.

The song is "Axel F". It was an international number 1 charting song that was constantly played on the radio back in the 80s. Makes a good ringtone too
This is the movie that got me into action/ comedies as a kid. Eddie Murphy will always be the Goat. Hope you guys do the sequels, love the channel and content alot. Never miss a video. 🤘😃
As others have said, the soundtrack to this is amazing. I remember hearing the title track while in my last year of school as it was in the Top 40 chart here in the UK. I also loved Ronny Cox in his role too. He’s so likeable as the Captain here, which is great considering he was such a despicable villain in Robocop.
don't forget, Jonathan Banks who of course played Mike in Breaking Bad, also first appeared in Airplane! as the guy who opens the microwave oven with the raw Chicken in there.
I know why you edited it out for YT, but the nightclub scene kills me every time 😂 Also, the Detroit police chief was actually the head of Homicide in Detroit, and was hired as he was perfect for the role. Also, Axl holstering his firearm in the back of his jeans was inspired by how the officer wore his firearm.
This movie is sheer perfection. Cast, story, soundtrack! Just perfect. Victor Maitland is imho an underrated villain. He was as cold as Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars 💯
When Axel rolls up to the hotel lobby and the girl starts typing to look up his claimed reservation, the implication is that this hotel is FANCY, 'cause even the front desk has a computer. 'Cause this was 1984 and computers were mostly limited to certain middle class households but rarely in, I would say, most hotels or businesses except fairly large ones, and mostly only for things like accounting, and there was little to no networking as is ubiquitous today, probably not until the late '90s.
One of my favorite movies. This came out when I was 10 years old and it still makes me laugh even though I know every line to this day. You gotta see Beverly Hills Cop 2 next 👍🏾….
As funny as Axel is and could have carried the whole movie, I'm glad they made Taggert and Rosewood as funny and loveable as they did. This is one of my all time favorite action comedies from my childhood.
Welcome to the MTV era of movie making... where the music was as big of a star as the actors and a blockbuster hit movie was a straight shot to #1 on the charts
Grew up in Detroit area and saw this movie in the theater at age 15 with my hockey team and a team from Toronto we were hosting. Great nite!! 40 teenagers that sneeked in multiple bottles of liquor laughing our ass off to this movie. Good times!!
Yo, you guys have to see Witness with Harrison Ford. Suspense, drama, romance and a fish out of water story with a punch. The 80s had some great, original stories. Damn, what happened?
The leather suits were actually similar to the outfits Eddie wore in real life. He did the stand-up routine in Eddie Murphy: Delirious (1983) wearing a red leather suit. and in Eddie Murphy: Raw (1987) wears a blue leather suit.
The Lemon Twist is a small biscuit style sweet often served with an Espresso back in the day, the caramlised Biscoff or Amarreti cookie seems to have replaced it now in most parts of Europe though.
Can't wait for you guys to watch 2 and 3 but you guys should watch Michael Bay's Bad Boys with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence soon. The soundtrack is good too, and fun fact I believe Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wanted Eddie Murphy to be in Ghostbusters as Winston but he wanted to do this.
The second one is just as good. I recommend it. I agree with how good the soundtrack is. I still listen to Axel F to this day. It's so iconic. Love this movie. Great reaction guys.
Harold Faltermayer was one of the two composers of soundtracks that landed their tunes in the '80s Top Ten charts. Jan Hammer was the other one, with some tracks from the Miami Vice TV show. Other movies with music by Faltermeyer are Running Man (with Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Kuffs (with Christian Slater) Also of course the sequel to this one, it's worth a watch. Forget the third one.
Great reaction. This is my 6th favourite movie of all time. I first saw it when i was about 7 in 1987, i loved it back then too. You clearly find most of the same bits hilarious as i do. In my opinion this is Eddie Murphy at his best.
Serge the art gallery assistant was played by Bronson Pinchot. Bronson was great at doing non-descript European accents. When I was a kid, he played Balki Bartokomous with such an undeterminable accent in the TV show Perfect Strangers. I loved Balki. Fun Fact: Family Matters (with Steve Urkel) was a spin off of Perfect Strangers. I remember hoping that Balki would guest star on Family Matters and teach Urkel the Dance of Joy ("Now we are so happy. We do the dance of joy!"). But it never happened. ☺ Btw I hate to tell you guys, but espresso is often served with a lemon twist, wedge or thin slice in Italy. It's called espresso romano. But I adore your tirade about lemon in coffee drinks. 🤣
Another good comedy that I know you guys would enjoy is an 80's movie called Cannonball Run. Racing from coast to coast with all kinds of stars (from the time) and it's a comedy !! At the end are even bloopers that are well funny.
Did you recognize Rosewood as the stepdad in the Tim Allen "Santa Clause" films? The laid back Beverly Hills Police Force...you can see how they developed into the police force in "Demolition Man" The 'lemon twist espresso" art gallery assistant Serge is Bronson Pinchot. He made his name in the TV comedy series "Perfect Strangers" where he is a Grecian named Balki who comes to live with his male cousin in America. He went on to do great bit parts (some film, but mostly TV), like the interior designer in "First Wives Club" (a great film you two might like). Oh, and he's on Twitter, and he's just oddly weird? Modern art? Like Lydia's mom in "Beetle Juice"?
I know you've already seen it, but the "Coming to America" soundtrack was something too! Eddie Murphy and soundtracks. Man, you've got to check him out in "Dreamgirls". He was one of the best things about that movie imo, and I wanted to see more!
I watch the intro because I am absolutely terrified of "Built Different" as he blows out my ear drums every intro. Love that dude. I am certain if I keep listening I will be wearing a Belltone but these brothers are amazing.
I love this movie, always enjoy it every time I see it. Every actor/character is great and brings something different to the movie. Watching Taggart/Rosewood/Bogomil slowly realize that Foley might have a valid approach even though it differed so much from their own is just great.
As a kid it took years for the theme to get out of my head. And then one day I turned Family Guy on and Peter Griffin did his version of it and now THAT'S stuck in my head
sequels are usually better the second time around...Empire strikes back, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Dark Knight, Terminator 2, Wrath of Khan, Superman II, Spider Man 2...it's usually the third movie that goes off the rails
You guys should watch the golden child. Another Eddie Murphy movie. If y'all haven't watched it and reacted to it yet. Just something to think about. Love you guys.
Love how Rosewood goes from naive cop here to a shotgun wielding badass near the end of the 2nd movie. Goes to show the positive influence Foley has. Also, love how you went from "This guy is so lame." to being horrified of him getting shot in the second movie.
YESSS I love this movie, and what fascinates me is the fact that there is ZERO romance in it, especially between Axel and Jenny which is rare Now the next movies to watch are Fletch and the sequel Fletch Lives, I feel like a lot of people don’t know much about these movies but they’re gold mines
Fun fact: the truck they used at the beginning of the movie to plow through everything, they uninstalled the bumper and fitted a factory grade I beam to the front of the truck before refitting the bumper back overtop of it so they could achieve maximum damage.
Damn. I was 20 back when this came out and I was a movie usher so I’ve seen it a hundred times. I hope you guys will do “A Bronx Tale “which I feel is a low key story of a young Robert DiNero ! And even the song played at the start of the end credits was none other than Patti LaBelle . The main theme was also a pretty modest hit and was played on the radio.
I haven't seen this movie in a while, I almost forgot how fun it was,FYI the sequel isn't that bad,I liked the fact they kept the same characters. That's a plus for me.I hate when they make sequels and have different people playing the original characters. But this franchise did the right thing and kept the original characters, even the small ones. FYI great reaction another old eddie Murphy action movi to check out if you haven't yet is 48hours.

Raw came out in 1987, Beverly Hills Cop was 1984.
Delirious, when he wore a matching red leather outfit, came out the year before this movie.
Eddie and Michael were real good friends in real life, too. That scene was like a special shoutout to MJ.
That's not why Eddie laughed at those guys.
On a $13 million dollar budget it made $316 million dollars at the box office.

Other movies with music by Faltermeyer are Running Man (with Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Kuffs (with Christian Slater)
Also of course the sequel to this one, it's worth a watch. Forget the third one.
Great reaction. This is my 6th favourite movie of all time. I first saw it when i was about 7 in 1987, i loved it back then too. You clearly find most of the same bits hilarious as i do. In my opinion this is Eddie Murphy at his best.
Lol. Thriller Jackets were very popular during that moment in time....
Definitely the first movie I remember seeing Mike from Breaking Bad in , thanks guys going to the movies in the 80s was a so much fun !
You need to do the sequels on this one! They are worth it!
The laid back Beverly Hills Police Force...you can see how they developed into the police force in "Demolition Man"
The 'lemon twist espresso" art gallery assistant Serge is Bronson Pinchot.
I'll be real with you, it's been so long since I've seen those movies but your comment totally sparked that memory; that's insane lol.
I know you've already seen it, but the "Coming to America" soundtrack was something too! Eddie Murphy and soundtracks. Man, you've got to check him out in "Dreamgirls". He was one of the best things about that movie imo, and I wanted to see more!
The guy who killed his friend was played by the same actor who played Mike from Breaking Bad. Did you notice that?
Such a classic 80's movie AND soundtrack!! Love it ❤️
I watch the intro because I am absolutely terrified of "Built Different" as he blows out my ear drums every intro. Love that dude. I am certain if I keep listening I will be wearing a Belltone but these brothers are amazing.
Loved the reaction. I think you'll enjoy Beverly Hills Cop 2 just as much. Billy has gone through a major "transition" that you will love.
You two are hilarious 😂
I love this movie, always enjoy it every time I see it. Every actor/character is great and brings something different to the movie. Watching Taggart/Rosewood/Bogomil slowly realize that Foley might have a valid approach even though it differed so much from their own is just great.
As a kid it took years for the theme to get out of my head. And then one day I turned Family Guy on and Peter Griffin did his version of it and now THAT'S stuck in my head
I know most sequels aren't that good but the second movie is just as good if not better! You guys will definitely enjoy it. Don't sleep on it. 😉
ehhhhh im not sure, eddie didnt do too good on the sequels with this or 48hrs
No it's fucking not.
sequels are usually better the second time around...Empire strikes back, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Dark Knight, Terminator 2, Wrath of Khan, Superman II, Spider Man 2...it's usually the third movie that goes off the rails
I don't know how you guys choose which movies to react to but your selections are always top tier 👌🏾
You guys should watch the golden child. Another Eddie Murphy movie. If y'all haven't watched it and reacted to it yet. Just something to think about. Love you guys.
I remember that soundtrack on the radio all that year. Axel Foley Theme I think might've hit #1 on the music charts, crazy
That badass synth soundtrack is engraved into every kid's brain in the 80s.
You guys: "This guy is so lame!"
Lt. Bogomil: Kills the bad guy, gives Axel the credit.
Love how Rosewood goes from naive cop here to a shotgun wielding badass near the end of the 2nd movie. Goes to show the positive influence Foley has.
Also, love how you went from "This guy is so lame." to being horrified of him getting shot in the second movie.
The assistant in the gallery has had it’s own sitcom: Perfect Strangers. My friend and I still do “the dance of joy” It’ hilarious!!!!!!
Yes... Balki
YESSS
I love this movie, and what fascinates me is the fact that there is ZERO romance in it, especially between Axel and Jenny which is rare
Now the next movies to watch are Fletch and the sequel Fletch Lives, I feel like a lot of people don’t know much about these movies but they’re gold mines
Fletch had another great soundtrack by Harold Faltemeyer
Fun fact: the truck they used at the beginning of the movie to plow through everything, they uninstalled the bumper and fitted a factory grade I beam to the front of the truck before refitting the bumper back overtop of it so they could achieve maximum damage.
I love the in sync "oohhhs" for the opening soundtrack!
They did Bronx Tale already.
2 is great
3 sucks
One of the best facts about this movie is that Sylvester Stallone was originally supposed to be the lead. He turned it down and Eddie Murphy got it
Man, I love Sly but I can't even imagine him in this role lol.
Can’t imagine anyone other than Eddie. You guys are awesome keep up the great work
