The people weren’t stupid. It was just a case of mistaken identity: two sets of two similar looking young men in two identical looking unusual looking cars arriving back to back at a store.
This does point out how eye witness testimony is only something like 10% reliable. The mind is a amazing but one thing it accelerates at is filling in the gaps without you even knowing. If you see something and try to remember it but the memory has gaps, your mind will fill in those gaps with what you’re currently seeing and you will think that is always how you remembered it.
Vinnie did a great job at establishing doubt. Two witnesses saw two men in a metallic mint green car exit the store but not necessarily the same ones. One witness identified the defendants go into the store and two men leave in a metallic mint green car but was mistaken about how much time had passed. That might have gotten them off. The Vinnie proved it couldn’t be the same car and thus it couldn’t be the same men because of the peel out tire tracks. That almost definitely would have gotten them off. Finding the actual murderers was just icing on the cake and left absolutely no doubt.

Watching twitch streamers play Among Us for years at this point, I have less than 0% confidence in eyewitness testimony. Countless times I've seen someone kill a player, then gaslight the rest of the lobby to the point they accuse and throw out innocent people, and it's like man, people are easy to manipulate, unfortunately.
I've seen it in real life with people around me, I've watched a video feed of a local city council meeting, and discussing it the next day they point out "Did you see THAT?" and I won't remember it until video playback, then I mention a thing they don't remember.
