I always love how Bogomil is obviously warming to Axel (even if he's frustrating the hell out of him) when he tries to cover for Taggart and Rosewood with the supercops story. His little silent chuckle when Axel admonishes them for fucking up a perfectly good lie completely seals the deal.

Gilbert Roland Hill (November 5, 1931 - February 29, 2016) was an American politician, police officer, and actor, who was the President of the Detroit City Council. He gained recognition for his role as Inspector Todd in the Beverly Hills Cop film series. He was the runner-up in the 2001 Detroit mayoral election, losing to Kwame Kilpatrick.

Beverly Hills Cop put Eddie Murphy on the map as a Hollywood movie star, as he had been mainly known as a comedian and SNL cast member before being cast as Axel Foley. Funny thing is, Sylvester Stallone was originally the first pick to play Axel, and the movie would've been vastly different with him in the role. But he passed on it and Eddie Murphy was cast instead, so the movie was altered to match his more comedic sensibilities. Also, Murphy turned down the role of Winston in Ghostbusters for Beverly Hills Cop. Both movies came out in the same year and ended up being two of the biggest films in 1984, so things definitely worked out well for everyone.

He literally saved SNL in 1981 which made him a known commodity. He was also the star of 48 Hours & Trading Places which came out before this & his stand up special Delirious came out on HBO a year before this movie. He was already a star long before this movie came out.

Fun reaction, Addie. I'm so glad you enjoyed Beverly Hills Cop (1984). Seeing Axel Foley stuff bananas into the tailpipe of Billy & Taggart's car was so bananas. They also made a fun duo, even if they struggled to get through the wall. And Billy saved the day at the end. It's also neat that you were able to recognize Judge Reinhold in this movie, since you've seen him as Neil in the Santa Clause movies. I enjoyed watching this movie and I'm also looking forward to seeing you watch Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) because that movie is directed by Tony Scott, the director of Top Gun (1986).

    YES!
Eddie Murphy was on fire in the 80's and 90's.
Originally Sylvester Stallone was cast as the titular character and he wanted the film to be more darker violent and action packed, as he didn't like the original script or it's comedic tone. He did a rewritten draft and gave it to the producers. When they told him they didn't like it, he quit the production and turned his rejected script into the 1986 action adventure thriller COBRA.

The part when he sees the outlandish red leather outfit and laughs is a call back to his comedy special, "Raw".
The foreign character actor in the art gallery later went on to co-star in the ABC hit sitcom, "Perfect Strangers".

In the course of just watching movies in my dad's collection since I was a kid, I really fell in love with these buddy cop type movies. "Rush Hour," "Lethal Weapon," and "Beverly Hills Cop" are all really great franchises that I enjoy immensely, but "Beverly Hills Cop" is my favorite series of movies in this style. Hi Addie, with Beverly Hills Cop you are my FIRST reaction of the day!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Great 80s hump day choice!🙂Happy Gilmore also a great fun film!😄When Eddie Murphy looks back at the two people walking in black and red leather outfits on the sidewalk, that was a nod to his stand-up comedy special "Delirious" that came out a year prior to this film in which he wore a similar outfit.😉😄The main bad guy character here Victor Maitland was typecast in the 80s. The actor is the main bad guy in the James Bond film "Octopussy" and "Rambo: First Blood Part II". The bad guys with shot guns in the strip club were just a coincidence. It is meant to show off Foley's great observation powers as a cop. Great reactions to an usual 80s buddy cop film, Addie!!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Billy and Taggart are in "II". Not as good as this film, but still fun.

Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) is in the sequels. Reinhold was a solid comedic leading man for a good portion of the 80s who made a big splash in the 1982 teen comedy 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High', a film that put a whole lot of people on the map in Hollywood. He played Brad Hamilton. The cast included Sean Penn (Jeff Spicoli), Jennifer Jason Leigh (Stacy Hamilton), Phoebe Cates (Linda Barrett), Forest Whitaker (Charles Jefferson), as well as Eric Stoltz, Anthony Edwards (Goose from 'Top Gun'), and Nicholas Cage in small roles. You have seen Reinhold in 'The Santa Clause' films.
There will be a new movie to this franchise called, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, with Eddie, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton (Taggart), Ronny Cox (Bogomil), Bronson Pinchot (Serge from the art gallery), and Paul Reiser (Jeffrey the Detroit cop "This is not my locker!"), and joining in will be Kevin Bacon and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It will be for Netflix.
I absolutely loved Beverly Hills Cop 2, but the third was not my favorite. However, you might just get a kick out of it.
Other Eddie Murphy films to see: Trading Places, Coming To America (See Trading first then Coming...there is a special joke in Coming pertaining to Trading!!!), and Dreamgirls.

Hi Addie. I loved your reaction to this comedy classic, it's my favourite Eddie Murphy movie! The sequel Beverly Hills Cop 2 (1987) is great & is well worth reacting to. Other Eddie Murphy movies I highly recommended are 48 Hours (1982), Trading Places (1983), The Golden Child (1986) & Coming To America (1988) I like your channel and I'm subscribed :)

Just to be clear when the hotel manager says the room is going to be $230 a night, that’s the equivalent of about $670 today.

Oooh... Just wait till you see Billy in Beverly hills cop 2.
When you said rush hour it reminded me of the movie that launched Eddie Murphy into movie stardom, which was "48 hours from" 1982. You can see how Eddie transformed from the goofy SNL character and a stand-up comedian into an actor.

whats funny about when he's walking past the two guys wearing the red and black leather outfits and he turns and laughs is because that was the kind of outfit he wore when he did his "Eddie Murphey: Raw" stand up special.

_Beverly Hills Cop_ is a trilogy. Eddie Murphy also has a buddy cop franchise with Nick Nolte titled _48 Hours_ . Eddie Murphy's top popular films are _Coming To America_ and _Trading Places_ .

Fun Fact: this was originally written as Sylvester Stallone movie. He turned it down, and Murphy made into a more comic movie.

Definitely react to the sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II (1987). The action, comedy, and shenanigans are dialed up to 11 as BHC II was made by the SImpson/Bruckheimer clan (the ones who did Top Gun).

Those locker room scenes were filmed at Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power(old) District 7. The(old) district 7 headquarters was eventually demolished in another movie sequence in which the whole building was blown up. I think it was a Sylvester Stallone movie.

An engine has to breathe. It inhales through the air intake on the engine. It exhales through the exhaust pipe. To simulate, breathe in and don't breathe out.
More commonly a potato is used. It makes a tight seal.

Axel's boss was a real cop. The banana guy was a young Damon Wayans. BHC 2 had an appearance by a young Chris Rock. Now imagine Sylvester Stalline as Axel Foley. That was the plan. Luckily, sly opted against it and Eddie Murphy was a near-last minute choice. Cinematic gold hapened. With Eddie's comedic ability, the whole movie was transformed. BHC 2 is good. 3 is myeh, but ok. Billy is in all three. There's not a 4th......yet.
