I was surprised to see such a wonderful president yang and strong, usually filmmakers pick somebody older…. Beautiful idea to change the stereotypes in the movie!!! 👍 respect ✊🏼
I suspect that with the character of the young president, 2 things should be conveyed. First, the explanation that the President could lead the fighter pilots into battle as one of them. The young king leads his army into battle himself, the classic hero image that has its real model in Alexander the Great. The second aspect is probably the memory of Jack Kennedy, who, as the youngest president of all time, saved America from a nuclear conflict, was handsome and skillful. All of this sums up the state of mind Americans associate with secure leadership...
It won Best Visual Effects and made $817 million dollars ($1.4 billion dollars today) against a $75 million dollar budget. I saw this in theaters with my older brother and sister and we loved every minute of it!
Wish they'd have spent another few bucks on editing. A couple of the mistakes are just unforgivable. The speech, however, still gets to me.
I think I saw it twice in the cinema, then got the VHS the day it came out. I was a massive Star Trek fan at the time, but this dwarfed First Contact for me by miles.
When I saw it the second and third times in theaters, I made it a point to sit in the back and watch the wave of bodies jumping when Dr. Data slams against the glass
The actor who played 'Dr.Okun' was a famous role 'Data' from Star Trek.
I watched this movie every year on Independence Day. Still 1 of my all time favorite movies from the 90s
They managed to beat an advanced alien race with Windows 95. Let that sink in :D
Macintosh.
And it's because all of our computer tech was based on the recovered alien ship, and because the aliens were using an open data-stream to hack into our satellites. That was their ankles heel, using our tech against us.
This was the 90s. When movies really were suspensfull, had great stories and gave you hope. I miss that times.
The father was played by Judd Hirsch who may best be remembered for being the lead actor in the tv comedy series Taxi from1978-1983.
One of favorite sitcoms.
Dear John for me but taxi was good
I Remember him from Numb3rs (great series by the way)
He’s still alive
We absolutely went to the Moon.
Russell Case. A hero that everyone doubted
Russell Case - The character most similar to the actual Randy Quaid.
Area 51 is next to Groom Lake Nevada. They used to deny its existence, but now they just restrict access. You can see it on Google maps.
That chap hasn't "lost his voice" his voice us always like that!🙄🎩
Jeff Goldblum Jurassic Park: "Must...go faster! Now that's chaos"🦖
Jeff Goldblum Independence Day: "MUST GO FASTER! Without the oops" 👽
P.S. You're watching an extended version I've never seen myself, interesting.
Oh yes!!! Great 💡 idea!!! 😘
Rip
James Rebhorn 1948-2014
Robert Loggia 1930-2015
and David Brenner 1962-2022
Independence Day (1996) was my 9/11/2001 when I was 6 years old. That is a testament of how terrifying this work of seventh art is.
The first time I saw Jeff Goldblum was when he and Ben Vereen costarred in the buddy detective comedy TV series "Tenspeed and Brownshoe" which only lasted from January to June 1980.
Wow, memory! 😊
I always wonder about how an extra mass 1/4 that of the moon would throw off the ocean currents and tides. Especially so close to earth.
the president's speech before the battle in my opinion the best movie speech.
There was a period of time where between my friends and I we declared Will Smith the savior of the world. Independence Day (1996), Men in Black (1997), Wild Wild West (1999), Men in Black II (2002), I Robot (2004)
We'd be like, "Want to go see Will Smith save the world again?" these movies all released about or on 4th of July weekend.
A Marine IS a weapon.
Bill Pullman was Hollywood’s version of Bill Clinton. This movie was huge. I was at the first screening in Baltimore and it was the first movie I ever attended where the audience cheered and clapped at the end.
I always found it weird that the two airforce guys looked at Russel weird when he said he was kidnapped by aliens. They're literally at war with aliens, at Area 51 with 4 alien corpses and a spaceship while he's saying it and they still doubt that it happened... At this point I'd be willing to give him the benefit of doubt. 🤣
I had the chance to see it in theater at age 14!! Was more then amazing since it kinda started an all new level of specials effect like in Jurrassic Park, Titanic, Twister, Armaggeddon, The Matrix and so many more!
Jurassic Park and Terminator two started the cgi trend
@Obscur888
Wow, totally the same for me. I was 14 in '96. Went to Crown Center in my city. That's awesome
This film is a wonderful memory for me. It's one of the last I saw in the theater with my Father
One of the best sci-fi movies ever made.
Seeing this movie in the theater when it first came out was mesmerizing. The graphics were stunning back then.
The news report says “taken TO the streets”, they all went outside to see what’s going on.
Emma says, "They didn't want to talk to you." (As the helicopter is shot down) But, the look on Emma's face was priceless. 😂 🤪🤓👍
The U.S. military refused to cooperate with movie because of references to area 51
They originally filmed Russell Casse being rejected to fly in the final attack on the alien ship because of his alcoholism and showing up the save the day with a missile strapped to the side of his cropduster plane already knowing that he will have to ram his plane into the aliens' main weapon to stop it. However, in a test screening the audience laughed at how ridiculous it looked for his old propeller drive biplane to be keeping pace with supersonic jet fighters as they "plowed the road" for him, and the story was changed to what you see now. The biggest advantage of the change is that you get to see him as he makes the heroic but heartbreaking decision to sacrifice his life for his children.
A little bit of 'Coincidental Trivia': This movie was scheduled to play on one of the Broadcast New York USA Channels on the night of September 11th, 2001. That scheduling was cancelled, because none of the Channels wanted to show building on fire and collapsing that night.
The man that works with Jeff Goldblum isn't losing his voice, his voice is always gravelly like that. His name is Harvey Fierstein and he is also a very successful playwright who has won multiple Tony Awards for the plays he wrote and acted in.
Oh, he is so good!!! Agree with you!! ☺️
@@EmmaReactions The actor that plays Will Smith's pilot friend, who puts his head on Smith's shoulder, is Harry Connick Jr.. Before, during and after his acting career he has had a wonderful career as a musician. Connick is a composer, a pianist, a composer and a bandleader. He has put out some wonderful albums in a jazz vein. He performed the most of the soundtrack to the movie When Harry Met Sally, which is composed of largely covers of jazz standards.
And the long-haired actor who plays the scientist at Area 51 is Brent Spiner. He became famous playing Data, the android on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Did she just say it's a baby it's pregnant when they were opening up the Alien space suit , it's a bio suit... lmao😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 i know ))) I didn’t realise that it was a suit ))), a bit later I got it)))
It's an understandable interpretation.
The outer "suit" was actually designed to be the alien's body. And so was the inner one. They were alternative designs put forward by the design team. The director liked both and decided to use them as we see in the movie.
In 1996 President Bill Clinton was about 50, and actor Bill Pullman was about 43.
In my theater, everyone cheered when the dog made it!
😁😀
'Independence Day' - definitely in my top 5 movie 'guilty pleasures'', between 'Bloodsport' and 'Armageddon'
I was today years old when I realized Jeff Goldblum was referencing Jurassic Park when they were trying to escape the mother ship 😂
6:24 Fun fact: Guy with the glasses is Chris Pine's dad.
I saw this in the theater when it premiered seeing those ships coming into Earth's atmosphere on the big screen. One of my favorite movies. Another one of my favorites you should react to is another one of my favorites, The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.
OOHH NICE ONE! 👌
One of the greatest presidential speeches on a movie..
Fully agree with you!!!!!
I do love this movie. It has action, science fiction, comedy, and a dash of romance. The father is also one of my favorite characters too.
Oh yes!!! This actor is so funny 😆
Originally Russel Kay was going to show up in the finale with a missile strapped to his biplane, after they rejected him as a pilot. Test audiences reacted negatively to the idea that he decided to commit suicide ahead of time, so they put him in an F/A-18. You saw the rest.
A great summer epic.
i always laughed at the idea of "hmmm how about we fly into the ball of fire?" :D
Independence Day is a great classic movie and even one of the best in those years by the Fox studio, currently Disney. If I'm not mistaken, Will Smith played a great role in that movie and thanks to that he was famous worldwide and very Dear, I still have the UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and VHS editions of this movie 😊✨
There were some scenes that left me speechless, for example the aliens, Area 51, which is still controversial
What do you think of this?
Our original order to make for this was 10 million copies on VHS and blew through that real quick with another 15 million ordered, all with the 3D card on front originally. was a nightmare until Titanic came along with 150 million VHS tapes made.
Yup I got it on VHS and DVD I bought a used VHS/ DVD player just so I could show the kids how we used to watch movies at home 😂😂 they complained about the VHS picture quality
This movie came out while I was in high school. Just got my driver's license. I went and saw this movie 6 times in the theater. These were some of the best times in movie making.
Lol the alien surgery scene in this and the Signs TV alien scene messed me up as a kid haha great movies.
This is another reaction where they watch an extended cut of the film, instead of the theatrical cut, from 1996.
I went to the show in Cartersville GA and saw it on the screen
Emma. love your reactions well done and god bless you!
Will Smith didnt just find her in some random place... She took all the survivors to the El Toro Air Force base, where Will Smith was stationed and where she thought she could find help and her bf stationed there. And he went there to save her, cause he told her to come to his base where he thought she would be safe...
I've never seen a movie that got me amped up and teary eyed at the same time. Great film!
Armageddon does it the same for me.
Great movie, by a German director too 👍🏼 Naturlich
40:40
That was pretty easy to be on right place.
She and the survivors remained at the remnants of El Toro and Steve/Will went over there to see it for himself.
Love this movie! Great Job Emma❤ Best Speech by a President Ever...
LMAO. The alien wasn't pregnant. 🤣🤣
The little boy is Ross Bagley who also played cousin Nikki on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
I'm thinking that's where you recognize him from?
En France, nous avons l’arme, absolue😂 ”the camembert ”the real😂
Emma looks like 1960's era Sally Kellerman.
When you jumped, I almost fell out of my seat laughing. So cute! 😂🥰
😁
The area 51 doc is played by Brent Spiner, known for his Star Trek role as the android Data, as well as Lore, and B4, and various Dr. Soongs.
I think this is one of the better movies inspired by H.G. Wells's War of the Worlds.
The movie still holds up today. 😊
I saw this in the theater as well, and loved it.
@26:34. She basically foreshadowed the whole movie.
26:32 - dayum. you predicted the entire plot. 🤣
This is pretry good for being a remake of a timeless sci fi classic.
The scenes were the aliens first arrive was awesome to watch in the theatre.. The surround sound had the whole room shaking..
It always surprises me that Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek) plays the doctor.
I recommend Will Smith again in Men in Black 2&3.
"I was part of something special." That line gets me every time . . .
This movie is awesome
7:56 He said "have taken to the streets", which means the people just ran outside their homes to the streets 😀
There's a feature on YT with all the news broadcasts from around the world which they filmed just for the background
Do Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Both of them. The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) is legendary, must-see American Sci-fi. A remake of it, released in 1978, is also a classic, and appropriately equal in popularity to the first, and stars a young Jeff Goldblum. p.s. That's Harvey Fierstein's regular voice.
Those aircraft you like are B2 bombers...they came out in 1989. They are stealth and cannot be accurately detected by radar. Each one costs over $2,000,000,000 (2 Billion) to build.
Wow!!!! This is so curious 🧐 thank you !!!
A good movie. Couple of other good modern sci-fi movies to watch is Contact with Jodi Foster and Stargate with Kurt Russel and James Spader.
OOOHH YEAHH AWESOME ONES!!! 😍🤩🤩✊👌👌
ID4 is easily one of my favorite movies ever
This used to be my favourite movie for ages.
Great reaction Emma! :) Please do Armageddon (1998) next! It's the other huge end of the world movie!
ALL THOSE COMET MOVIES WERE ACTUALLY CRAPPY! AND JUST KINDA USLESS! 😑😒
Since a lot of TH-camrs react to this on the 4th of July (the United States' Independence Day), I'm going to suggest "1776" (1972) based on the hit Broadway stage musical which is a fictionalized musical/drama/comedy depicting the conflict between delegates of the original 13 colonies arguing whether or not to declare independence from England and start America's Revolutionary War.
This is my first time seeing you and I’m quite pleased! You laughed and became emotional in exactly the same way as I had many years ago. Also appreciating the technical aspects as well, creating a new appreciation and experience. A kindred spirit! Thank you so much! 😽💋🎬
Nice reaction and video! Maybe this movie has the best and spectacular alien invasion of all time.
I generally watch Independence Day every 4th of July.
love this
If you're looking for another movie Will Smith is in I'd like to suggest the movie, "I Robot". It's set in the future and he plays a cop and it's a fairly good movie. The guy with the rough scratchy voice , well,...that's his normal voice, that's how he normally talks.
Hi Emma,
Great reaction to a great movie!
A wonderful scifi fantasy movie directed by Ron Howard called, Cocoon is excellent. It's probably the most gentle movie I've ever seen and no one has reacted to it. James Horner does the music to it.
I'll check it out!
OHH YEAHH, ' COCOON ' AND RVRN ' SPLASH ' AND ' THE ABYSS ' WOULD BE AWESOME ONES TO SEE SOON ACTUALLY !😀👌
Fun one, Emma! 🙂
Classic Sci_Fi
Roland Emmerich's Masterpiece! ❤👽
Can anyone guess who is the jazz musician/ singer in this movie? And for bonus points and a chance to win a hypothetical all inclusive trip to Hollywood; what other movie did this actor appear in?
My big sister took me to see this at the cinema when it opened :D
For an audience pandering, cheesy, hokey, high-fiving nonsense movie, it's a TON of fun :D
Edit: That Presidential Speech is definitely the best one in cinematic history.
The President's speech is in my trio of favorite movie speeches with Braveheart and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
I forgot how good that prez speech was until this video. Great actor. Love him.
@@Billinois78brilliant examples. I completely agree.
Speaking of nonsense, so lucky that the aliens were also running on Windows 95! ;)
💯😁
stargate is also a great movie, made by the same people who made this one
Well done watching the extended cut. I watched it twice in big & good theathers when it came out, right after Stargate, and it was insane. I love to rewatch it from time to time to have good feels about humanity. Anyway, kisses & love from France.
Where'd you find this extended version? Couple scenes here I've never seen that weren't included in the theatrical version.
Great Movie, it's 2nd Part was also Great Movie
Another very cool 'alien invasion' movie is "Battle Los Angeles"... You'd love this one Emma. :)
Bio mechanical suit...the most ignored line in the movie.
Yes, I got it a bit later 🤣🤣
We all missed it.
I don’t want so sound rude, but you’re amazing! Thank you for making these reactions… and you have very beautiful eyes.
😘😉
10:45 California is on a fault line and earthquakes are the only thing that is common around there so small shake is nothing to Los Angeles or some other areas 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🤠 I’m in San Diego now and have a another place in Arizona and I’ve felt a few shakes 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🤠
Next time Independence Day: Resurgence
Will Smith became popular first due to his tv series _Fresh Prince Of Bel Air_ a comedy classic from the 90s. Jeff Goldblum most popular film is _The Fly_ .
