  • BULLETPROOF YOUR CUMMINS 68RFE TRANSMISSION!
    This is Part Two of the 4th gen 6.7L Cummins 68RFE transmission mods. I install the Next Gen Diesel Bulletproof 68RFE valve body kit. This valve body kit consists of a bonded separator plate, accumulator pistons, accumulator plate and more. I try to go over the majority of the 68rfe bonded separator plate install and give you guys some instructions since the kit doesn't come with anything to help guide you through installing it. This Next Gen Diesel 68rfe valve body kit will address most of the known issues that the 68rfe and its valve body are known for (Cross leaks being a major one), helping to keep your Cummins transmission operating at optimal performance. Another main benefit of this kit is allowing you get 68rfe transmission tuning to bump up your line pressure and get better clamping force on your clutch packs. Check out Next Gen Diesels TH-cam channel to get more info on this kit or hit up their website and see the full line of products they have ranging from these DIY bulletproof 68rfe kits, pre built valve bodies all the way up to fully built 68rfe transmissions. I may have to order a billet channel plate next so that I have a fully refreshed built billet valve body in the truck to get me by for a little while.

    !! For anyone doing this heres a quick tip for removing and installing the 68 valve body, take care to remember where the shift fork was when you removed the valve body because if it's not in the right position when you go to re-install the valve body you can break the shift linkage, and to replace the linkage you have to completely disassemble the trans which for most people is not gonna be fun if they don't know how to work on the trans 😀 just a friendly tip from a dodge cummins specific shop 😀

      Yes stay on top of it bro I bought a ram 2500 2014 with 80,000 MI and all those were highway miles and never told anything. I knew the guy I got it from. He always had all the service done on it. At 40,000 MI Dodge gave him a new transmission cuz the old one was no good I bought it at 80,000 mi and then 90,000 MI transmission went out I was about five grand out of pocket.I know a different stuff to look out for now but really have to keep an eye on these things

      What happened with the trans that dodge replaced it and then what was it doing when it went bad on you again at 80k miles?

      @@purepanorama8484 I don't know what happened in 40k cuz I didn't own it at the time. The previous owner just said Dodge replaced it. And it 90,000 something about the overdrive was f***** up and s*** was seized together they had a hard time taking it apart. Said he had to rebuild it and we put in some beefier parts. For all I know he could have screwed me I don't know anything about transmissions. I don't think so though cuz it's a very well-known shop.

      But I also seen a video talking about a common problem about the positive battery terminal corroding and it being bad for your transmission overtime.and sure enough when I bought it it had corrosion on the battery terminal and I never got around to it because I work offshore and I forgot about it for about a year. Could have simply been that bro. I don't like to think about it though because if it was that they cost me five grand plus for neglecting a simple issue

    From my experience with the 68 trans and the trucks ive rebuild the trans in, the 68 valve body is famous for flexing under high pressures so its a really good idea to get the billet top half for the valve body it stops VB flex which the 68 is known for 😀 ❤️. Firepunk competition kit is a good kit to go with for the 48re guys out there if anyone is wanting to rebuild their trans. Just make sure to get the ATSG manual for rebuilding and servicing the trans and you can easily rebuild them ❤️

I hope this video can help somebody out while doing this install on their truck. P.S. I know somebody is going to tell me the bonded separator plate fixes cross leaks too, so I figured I would beat you to it since I forgot to mention it in the video! Thanks for watching and I'll see ya in the next one!

    !! If your going to get the upgraded accumulators and the new plate then you really should drill the extra holes and tap them for those extra bolts because the new accumulators can add pressure to the stock plate hold down bolts and strip them out thats why they give you the new plate with more holes! Please if your doing this take the time to drill those holes. If you add pressure you need to add those bolts! I can promise you unless you drive like a grandpa, you will blow out that plate and then your going to be buying a whole new valve body half. Also while your in there you really should swap out the lock up piston lever which is what the 68 is known for wearing out the bore and causing the truck to go into limp mode and stick in 4th gear!!! If you do pressure upgrades you NEED to drill the extra holes in that plate!!!! The dodge trucks is what my shop started on and it's the main vehicles we work on because it's our specialty so take it from me when I warn you about the 68 trans and it's weaknesses. ❤️

    Your are awesome!! Best video about this I have ever watched. Im about to buy a '19 350 w/Cummings at an auctionts and it has the P0871 code that scares me. I've never owned a Diesel ever but learning quickly thanks to youtube. Im going to replace the pressure sensor on the outside of it and see what happens. If it doesnt fix it I'll probably put your kit. I dont think the solenoid could cause that OBD code. From what I've seen its a different code just for that part. IDK I have no clue about this but Im buying that truck no matter what. Again, you rock and the video was very concise without the extra time wasting babble.

    • @NextGenDrivetrainInc
      @NextGenDrivetrainInc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DSGB2199 Hey man, great question. The OEM 68RFE torque converter uses like pressure to hold lockup off, not on. This means that raising line pressure has no impact on operation of the converter clutch, and only impacts the amount of internal converter pressure during the fluid coupling process. Fortunately, that is not a weak point of this converter and the weld on the converter is roughly of equal strength no matter what converter you buy; or if you even buy one! Long story short, this is 100% safe to use with an OEM torque converter. If anything, it’s great insurance!

    The 68 is decent unless your going above 500 to 700hp then the 48 is way better and can actually handle high hp. The 68 has really weak clutches and drive gears are super easy to kill. 5th gear especially. But if your smart about how you run the truck and don't go real high in hp then the 68 is a decent trans. But firepunk actually did a couple videos about the 68 trans. Loving the truck though man :) kinda miss the ole 2nd gen though sometimes haha
