RLM in a nutshell
I feel so bad when I think of Mike in his childhood watching Cpt. Kirk, idolising him, playing pretend with his friends and taking dibs on being Kirk, perhaps dressing as him for Halloween. Now 35+ years later Shatner is calling him out and mocking him on Twitter, his idol know what he looks like, finally acknowledging his existence.... but it's to mock him. Poor Mike :(
He’s become Arthur Pfleck
“How about another joke, Shat-ner!”
I feel his pain as I had the same experience except my idols were Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela
@@nonyabidness8676 I think in other terms it will be fun to have him, but he is from other era. Shatner wants something "professional", and maybe even a pseudo script for an interview. RLM doesn't do that, they crack jokes and are really chill about what they do... Maybe if Shatner sit through 3 episodes of botw were Mike goes on a rant about Star Trek, he will get the feel and come with that in mind... But as it is, it won't ever happen...
Ironically, I think Sir Patrick would be a better fit. He loves to goof around and will even make an skit with them

But not in a good way...
Shatner's Medium essay on this affair is a straight up hit piece. He lies about the whole situation and plays the victim. Lies about this video. What a schmuck.
That Medium article forever destroyed whatever respect I had for that actor. What a vicious, ugly writeup. That he is still going on about living costs in Milwaukee and how RLM makes money off of youtube and patreon (gasp!) is just icing on the cake. It's so good to know Shatner worked for free...
@@ToumalRakesh You had respect for Shatner before that? Holy shrift.
That article wasn't written by Shatner but by the social media manager who is a weird dude who hates RLM.
I don’t care how loved Shatner is, I’ll never forgive him for breaking Mike’s heart.
nimoy went to his grave refusing to speak to shatner...what kind of shatnering shatner do you have to be to shatner things up that bad??
Well said.
Ditto
@@legionpigsmack1153 He did? I thought they were best bros?
@@Corbomite_Meatballs yes, they were...but not at the end. nobody knows why the final alienation between the two occurred, or it's nature...but, unfortunately, it did
The only way this could get worse for Mike is if “Sir Patrick” finds out about his jokes and confronts Mike on Twitter
But the tea would be epic
If that happens mike will actually turn into his character from Smiling Friends
@@kevinaumiller9781 oh shit, thank you. I didnt know about smiling friends...
I beg of it!
The difference between Shatner and Stewart, is that Shatner didn't really have much success outside of Star Trek. I think Patrick Stewart would just remember all of the other stuff he's been in, brush it off, and have a laugh. With Shatner, ANY denigration of his time on Star Trek is a denigration of his entire acting career (at least the only part anyone remembers), so he takes it way more personally.
Mike's heart is actually a little broken here. He's SUCH A FAN T.T
You can hear it just a little bit as it goes along.
Oh well too bad....
19:39 You can actually pinpoint the second when his heart rips in half
@@gendras1588 Oh bullshit. He was just worried Shatner calling them hypocrites about them being offended he called them a podcast.. would affect their cash flow. He doesnt care what Shatner thinks of him. End of story.
I've since learned that in response to this video, Shatner wrote a long meandering Medium post called 'The Toxic Empires of Egoligarchies', where he digs through tons of RLM fan tweets in detail, screenshotting and posting in what was presumably hours of work, but admits to not having even watched this video at all. Shatner is a world class troll, it's pretty impressive.
Well, if anyone would know egoligachies, .....
Sadly Shatner is not trolling.
He has gone after RLM and their earnings. That is way above trolling.
Honestly that was the perfect display of how out of touch with the world he seems to be, and best of all he willingly provided it
enjoyed the random cameo by Trey the explainer in there
Trolls know what they're doing. Shatner doesn't. He's just a bully, with some senility thrown in.
Mike genuinely looked like he was about to cry in the end.
I thought it was going to happen. I feel bad for the man.
Half way through the video I was thinking, "it's a good thing that Shatner isn't one of Mike's personal heroes. I don't want to see another Elon Musk/Niel Armstrong debacle". Guess I spoke too soon.
Mike’s just a good actor, something that Shatner fans aren’t used to seeing.
I clapped!
@@BluJean6692 I think Jay was laughing 1) because he doesn't care about Shatner or Star Trek, and 2) because he wasn't sure how to react to Mike's sadness. Don't think either one was acting.
Mike is playing cool but I feel like he's probably pretty bummed about how this went.
He obsoletely cried over this just like Wheaton, and it's completely justified. Shatner's Twitter probably destroyed the rest of Mike's year.
I dunno. If you’re celebrity hero tweets about you, .. it something.
What about Wheaton?
Nah Shatner's been known to be a huge prick for decades
Hence why people really need to fucking chill with the Twitter garbage. Just log off every now and then, it's healthy.
William Shatner isn’t exactly someone you talk to about corporate shilling
Whaaaat ?! So he's not really into electric bicycles ? My world it shatt(n)ered
Why? He's an expert.
Well he said product placement would be fine if they weren't simultaneously making fun of those that do it.
I like to believe that Mike is actually on the verge of tears when he says he can't take knowing that Captain Kirk doesn't like him. Like, that's not acting, it's a man who is hurt by his hero
We know he loves the attention.
Okay
When your hero turns out to be a little bit of an asshole.
Don’t meet your hero’s kids, they might just horrifically disappoint you with how real they are
