- Over the last decade, important progress has been made in setting up more systematic, predictable, and evidence-based two-way communication initiatives to better engage with, and be accountable to, people affected by natural disasters. However, the implications and opportunities around engaging with people in armed conflicts and other situations violence are not as well-known or documented.
To contribute towards filling this gap, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative (HHI) published a joint discussion paper: "Engaging with people affected by armed conflicts and other situations of violence: Recommendations for humanitarian organizations and donors in the digital era".
The report was published online on 28 March 2018: www.icrc.org/e...

Great collaboration with Kurzgesagt ! Thanks :)
Is this from kurzgasagt?
John Brown yes
No its not. its a animation from a zoo filled with seals.
I was just about to ask that. I am shocked. They are all good.
While watching this video, I ended up thinking of two things in my nation's history: the hidden radios and secret newspapers during WW2, and how we didn't dare contact anyone who might possibly be (or were definitely) on Utøya during the attack against the summer camp there, for fear of endangering them.
Wow, people knew to not call loved ones on the island? That would've been so hard to have that restraint
This is just unbeliveable we still have to go through such horrors despite of all that technology and wisdom we have...
More technology does not mean more wisdom. The problem is we have too much technology and too little wisdom.
Great piece :)
Tq icrc 😃😃😁😁
Is it just me, or does the audio sound a bit off?
the narrator is kurzgesagt
How many people around the world are stuck in warzones? I can't even find an accurate number for this.

I have to admit I don't get the point here. Communication is important?! So...?
Ca de
this is just a scenario.
It's for a conference with the red Cross in Geneva
Has there ever been a situation where you didn't dare contact someone for fear of endangering them?
Are you fucking dense? It's clearly a video for the Red Cross... You are to be hardcore inbred not to get the point
They might be thinking this is a full on kurzgasagt video, thinking that there is a well thought out point and information. Don't be so quick to jump on people.
the first minute literally describes life after Maria in Puerto Rico lol
wooooooo Kurzgesagt!
We are so attached to our phones, it's really sad. Back in the day, people talk face to face instead of using Instagram and Facebook. We are so disconnected from people, we need to understand that there are people around us to talk to. Ashamed of this world smh...
go back then
Yeah well now people from around the world can connect with each other and broaden their horizons
1:40 in China, North Korea, Sysria ....
So don’t sabotage communications because the “People” need them not like irk the military can just idk USE THEM?
kurzgasagt brought me here
Did you guys commission this video from Kurzgasagt or did you straight up steal this video?
see here kurzgesagt.org/work/2903/
Dear Grant. We did indeed commissioned Kurzgasagt to help us to make understand the complexity of communicating and engaging with people in conflict zones. It is also to support our new publication on this topic. Hope you like it.
Hi Grant - thank you for your comment. We indeed commissioned the video from Kurzgasagt. We are big fans of their work, and hope you like this video!
They did give him credit, look at the bottom of the description
Directly from Kurzgasagt's Facebook: "We did a project with the International Committee of the Red Cross about the importance of communication during crisis. The video will be presented on March 28th at the ICRC-HHI conference in Geneva. Big thanks for the great cooperation!"
