Dream Theater began their mammoth "A Dramatic Tour Of Events" world trek in July 2011 with the final leg in South America taking place in August 2012. It was here at the Luna Park arena in Buenos Aires, Argentina that they decided to film the two nights that go to make up this release. It was Dream Theater's first tour with new drummer Mike Mangini and all the tracks from their first album together "A Dramatic Turn Of Events" are included in either the main show or the bonus performances. Dream Theater are rock's supreme virtuosos with many awards to their name and here in concert they bring all the power and drama of their music to life with breathtaking performances of classic tracks from across their career.
Filmed in high definition.
Features many of their classic tracks including: "Metropolis Pt. 1", "The Silent Man", "Pull Me Under", "The Root Of All Evil", "The Test That Stumped Them All", "The Spirit Carries On" and the recent "On The Backs Of Angels".
James LaBrie (vocals); John Petrucci (guitar); Jordan Rudess (keyboards); John Myung (bass); Mike Mangini (drums) - เพลง
James has something really unique: we can always identify his voice easily, for good or bad. He is a legend.
He is the Lars Ulrich of vocals. Started his career with a lot of potential and natural talent, but didn't work on their craft and let themselves slip
@@dingdongs5208I think that assessment is slightly unfair as he sacrificed his vocal cords for the band
@@dingdongs5208I dont think you can really compare it, Lars hasnt done anything remarkable, Labrie was like the best voice at his peak in 1992, Lars is just average, and always has been
@@dingdongs5208ridiculous. You just can't sustain singing like this. It's impossible
@@jtaco4101 yeah sure but then the onus is on him to develop better vocal habits, speak to his band to play lower octaves
Mike Mangini, if you can read this, thank you for your epic drumming. You are deserving to be in this band. You are truly amazing!!!
Portnoy is the best...
@@tomyrock8236 bro, stop comparing drummers. they're all good and have their own style. like joey and jay from slipknot, fans are shitting on jay for no reason. they all are very good in their own way
@@tomyrock8236 Clearly not
@@tomyrock8236 Portnoy couldn't hold Mangini's stick bag. Portnoy was a student at Berklee. Mangini was a teacher.
@@MikeB-oo9bj does that mean all of einsteins teachers were better than him? What stupid logic are you using
4:24 LaBrie is like "Right, I'm off for a beer." 😂
They show John Myung less and less each dvd.... makes me so sad.
ThePoetech Yeah, he’s as good and important as any other member in the band TURN THE BASS UP!!
As he is not speaking at all, his existence is getting cleared from time and space.
That is coz most people are only interested in JP.
he might request for it himself
The silent man
This performance says everything I love about Dream Theater. That awesome jam going into the final verse, the way Mangini and Petrucci add to Rudess' improv is genius, and at the end where Mangini does this thing where he sticks one stick in his mouth and just does this crazy thing with only one hand and this look on LaBrie's face is just... wow! So good!
That improv at the end was really amazing.
Yep. I almost cried.
a fantastic drummer playing the part of a fantastic drummer .
great!!
Its refreshing to see a person who finally appreciates mangini. Any stupid nobody who keeps commenting that mangini is not as good as Portnoy needs to understand that the band members understand eons more about their own music then anyone else does. So if they chose mangingi it means he was the best of the best. If you want to complain go try and be a fucking drummer yourself and audition for dreamtheater and see what they say about you.
@@chan22harrypotter Yes! I mean, yeah, Portnoy was Dream Theater, but Mangini is Dream Theater now. People just cannot accept that.
Edit: I guess only DT fans would be unhappy to see Mangini in their band. He is a beast anyways. Okay, he is not as melodic/natural as Portnoy when it comes to improvisation, but in technicality, he is a drum god. And we have not seen him contributing to the writing process. So still I think, not enough data to judge him :/
Finally someone said it. 2 incredibly skilled drummers, both of whom deserve nothing but respect.
@@chan22harrypotter Even if you did that and auditioned for them, even if you completely suck they would have still said something encouraging and nice about you because they're all down to earth, stand up dudes! One of the reasons I like DT lol.
Somewhere in the crowd, there is a metronome taking lessons from Mike Mangini
😂😂😂
They would lost count.
This is the best jokes I've ever know LOL
😂😂
Well most metronomes can onely handle 4/4
Una tarde me llamó mi hermano y me dijo, tengo dos tickets, me haces la segunda? Vamos a ver una banda al Luna Park. Tercer fila. Fui sin conocer un solo tema. LITERALMENTE ME VOLARON LA CABEZA, fué este concierto
Te felicito por a ver ido
que zarpadooo men buena forma de conocer la banda
Felicidades a tu hermano
A mi me pasó algo parecido! fui sin conocerlos mucho. Después de eso no paré nunca y ahora los veo en Septiembre.
Que envidia xD
8:55 - 10:25 loved this added part so much
Could be a new DT song…
I was there and this arrangement drove me crazy. Especially because in the weeks previous to this concert I discovered the "When dream and day reunite" version
that's metropolis pt.3 teaser
Im glad that James sings so well again !
12:21
james: "damn, we added a monster to this band"
One of the most expansive arrangements I’ve ever heard. Totally spotlights the talent of these guys. Off the charts!
I always found DT to be very tight, precise and very technical especially on there Awake and Images and Wotds albums
Agreed. What a great way of putting it
Mike Manginni is amazing, especially his funk and his grooves, both of which there's not enough of. His rudiments and rolls make your ears drool. His drumming is flawless.
I’ve been playing drums my whole life and I agree. He’s flawless
LaBrie was once THE premier member of this band and the reason to see them outside the great music. He was the greatest thing out there for a brief time in history. Give the guy some slack. Singing a DT set is a challenge within itself.
Especially after messing your vocal chords up
And this was recorded 20 years prior to this perfomance, is unfair to expect him sound exactly as the record. The human voice suffers more from age than any other instrument.
@@Lipeaze Yeah, but still very possible to maintain. LaBrie unfortunately had that damn vocal bleed.
@@BeardedDanishViking is rare with prolonged carrers, the only one that i can think of that sings the same or better os Glenn Hughes
@@Lipeaze Jørn Lande, Russell Allen, David Draiman, Howard Jones, Mikael Stanne, Timo Kotipelto, the list goes on. There are plenty of folks that are still in great shape.
Respect mangini, he has really helped this band, and he's been very good at playing the drums
I like marco minneman
@@progresivedistorsi4698 Marco Minneman looser... Mangini another skill
Marco is too creative. Never could have controlled him. Wonder artist and guy.
I still love this song and this band.
I absolutely love how Mangini handles the old material. He approaches it from a musician standpoint, and allows the other instruments to be heard. Best thing that ever happend to this band for sure.
+TM645 Right man. I feel Mangini's drumming is much less "energetic", sounds so static and flat... I'm not saying he can't play, but Portnoy was an absolutely different story.
TM645 no other drummer? You forget Neil Peart...
TM645 - Good point. At this point, I'm kind of missing Portnoy. It also indicates that regardless of a drummer's technical ability, it doesn't guarantee he will be as well received. MP had tremendous heart for sure. I don't know what's been going on with MM lately, but this isn't the same drummer who recorded Mullmuzzler 2 with James LaBrie.
Totally agree with danlc95. Mangini is a total professional regarding Portnoy’s parts, and certainly a virtuoso when adding his own touch.
This is probably the best I've heard James sing this song, live
+Animal Mother He nails this song on 'Score' and some older performances in the early 90s too but agreed, this is a pretty good version of the song also.
Nope, James LaBrie's best live for "Metropolis" is on Score.
Some live performances of this song in '93 were absolutely incredible. I think that from 1992 to 1994-5 he was the best singer in the world
@@jacopopadoan7955 I recommend the album Live at the Marque
@@OVELLIX only because the orchestra makes everything much better 😂
1:38 - Such an easy guitar part on paper, but to play it in time and at speed LIVE.... insane.
Manginni is incredible! Great attitude and dead on track. He might not be as much of a show off as MP but I couldn’t think of anyone that would have been a better fit to replace MP
Damn these guys are good! I'm an old 60s hippie, grew up with great bands, floyd, zeppelin, yes, you name it, I have seen it. these guys are all very talented, tight, innovative, musicians.
Love the way he glides over the kit effortlessly. Flawless.
Absolutely no one ROCKS! Like Dream Theater!!!

+moenkopiaz at least he isn't named after a pedophile named Mohammed.
+moenkopiaz The name Israel predates the country by over 3,000 years.
Vai andar de moto que é melhor rapaz.
Eric
Amazing. Can't wait to see you in London again! x
5 years on and the jam in the middle of the song is one of the best that I ever heard ♥️
@5:06 it's so awesome to hear Mangini take some liberties in this section. Dude is a beast and need not be limited to what Portnoy did. NIce work, Mike!
But this section was created by Mike Portnoy😅
@@Axepatan17And I highly doubt Portnoy plays it the exact same live every night either, compared to when he first performed it in the studio.
Can't wait to see MP performing this again, now that he's officially back
Hermano! Mis respetos para James Labrie, todavía tiene la voz que me puso la piel de gallina cuando escuché este tema, incluso en los agudos
I get so tired of people downing Manginni... in the finale he plays with one hand and it sounds like someone playing with two. portnoy will never be replaced but manginni is great in his own right.
+notafraidoffuture I do wish Portnoy could come back, but I have to admit, that part where Mangini was using one stick was pretty badass.
+notafraidoffuture That's pretty much exactly what he was trying to say when he was trying out for the band in 2011
***** maybe so I'm not a drummer. However it was pretty good showmanship which is one thing Portnoy followers tend to dis Manginni for lack of.
Nah. Manginni is awesome. And Portnoy is awesome.
Awesomeness for everybody. Those guys are amazing.
It's funny when Mangini plays Portnoy parts he looks like he's on vacation. Portnoy stuff is child play for The Man!!!!
My life is forever changed... I just saw Jordan Rudess's finger slip onto the wrong note... He DOES screw up every now and again. You have no idea how inspiring that is...
Haha...thats great - we are all human
Where in the video?
No he did that on purpose just to see if you'd notice.
Minute?
Can’t find it either :( we’re out of the joke bros, we stupid
If Deep Purple, and Rush had a baby, it would be Dream Theater. Thank you guys for making both "Mikes" the "magic" of your music. Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU!!!
I like how content Rudess looks on the stage this whole entire song!
Flawless... specially the middle part.. just amazing playing.
How fantastic the voice is! It's so nice.
Rudess's wizard hat is sweet!
This song is gay af tho! Feel like I'm in Nerdville.

Fun Fact:
METALHEADS ARE NERDS!!!
I started listening to DT only just a few hours ago, and 4:34 has actually become one of my favorite riffs ever
6/8 and 7/8 repeating sounds so fucking good
ROACH DOGG JR SPOTTED
I had the exact same reaction first time i heard this song. I kept looping that riff
This song still give me chills.
AMAZING THIS IS THE BEST
Wait! Portnoy left DT or did I miss something? Mangini was the choice of DT, so don't hate Mangini for it. PS he's the nicest, most sincere person you will ever meet and combine that with his insane drumming ability which he works his ass off for you have a winning combination which is now the Rhythm of DT.
James Walent THANK YOU!!! Some people just dont seem to get that portney left, he wasnt kicked out, they got the best "replacement" they could, I almost hate saying that hes a replacement, hes so much more than that.
Portnoy wanted a break from DT, the rest of the band said screw you and held auditions :/
Weston Euler Yeah he wanted to take about a 5 year break, and everyone else wanted to start writing and recording so he decided to leave because it was nobody else wanted a break.
He wanted a one maybe two year break which is understandable after 25 years of playing together. Everyone of the others have other projects. Why not working on them while taking a rest and starting again with fresh ideas after a while? Because they wanted him to leave. But with him the soul left Dream Theater... Listen to "Similitude of a Dream" Thats Dream Theater... The only thing left is LaBrie...
@Riverfilms In the auditions the band said that Portnoy wanted to go on a 5 year hiatus.
I really love it! Literally I am having a tears of joy right now!
Beautiful
@@victoravr10 indeed
Can´t wait to see you guys in Portugal. See you next week!!
Utterly brilliant guys!! Thank you
1:33 A guy wearing Brasil jersey in Argentina. Props to him for the courage.
We love Brazilians, and Brazilians love us. We are only rivals when it comes to football, but that's it.
It is a concert of Dream Theater, practically a concert for scrupulous musicians and generally very well educated. It is not a La Libertadores match.
This is not Colombia or some shitty latino country. This is Argentina and is the most civilized country in South América.
Being an argentinian, I've attended metal gigs in Brazil with an Argentinian flag and it was great, people is very kind and respectful. In shows of bands you love, everybody is in the same tune, no matters nationalities.
Sebastián Slrzn also the most pretentious ;)
Perfect drum in jam
so much fun to listen to this masterpiece over and over again
What a GREAT!!! Band. WOW!!!!!saw them back in the early 90s.
I love this song. IMO is a masterpiece.
What a bunch of talents and geniuses ❤️❤️
This Luna park shows sounds are amazing I love IT!!!🤘🔥💥
John Myung's Bass is way too low. That guy is a wizard on the Bass, but sadly you can't even hear him!
The Cisco Kid I hear him...just focus on low frequencies :-)
+Jan Lener He is insane with those bass taps.
+The Cisco Kid You'd hear the lack of him if he wasn't there. :P
+The Cisco Kid I've often suspected it's because Petrucci's guitar is muddy. His Ibanez guitars sounded a lot crisper.
+The Cisco Kid You are not supposed to "hear" the bass, you should feel it.
The smile of dawn arrived early May
She carried a gift from her home
The night shed a tear to tell her of fear
And of sorrow and pain
She'll never outgrow
Death is the first dance, eternal
There's no more freedom
The both of you will be
confined to this mind
I was told there's a miracle for each day that I try
I was told there's a new love
that's born for each one that has died
I was told there'd be no one to
call on when I feel alone and afraid
I was told if you dream of the next world
You'll find yourself swimming in a lake of fire
As a child, I thought I could
live without pain without sorrow
As a man I've found it's all caught up with me
I'm asleep yet I'm so afraid
Somewhere like a scene from a memory
There's a picture worth a thousand words
Eluding stares from faces before me
It hides away and will never be heard of again
Deceit is the second without end
The city's cold blood teaches us to survive
Just keep my heart in your eyes and we'll stay alive
The third arrives
Before the leaves have fallen
Before we lock the doors
There must be the third and last dance
This one will last forever
Metropolis watches and thoughtfully smiles
She's taken you to your home
It can only take place
When the struggle between
our children has ended
Now the Miracle and the
Sleeper know that the third is love
Love is the dance of eternity
Only a Mike could replace another Mike... 😊
What a great performance!
At 3:53 " I love my life!!!"

It's a timeless track ⭐⭐⭐
They sound great!!! James especially!
QUE OBRA DE ARTE !
Mangini on Drums is amazing, I think this band is still growing. Cool stuff.
Salute mangini....super power full skill
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL , HUGE EARGASM, caps were necessary.
LaBrie actually sounds pretty good here! Always love to hear this song live without the sampled drums
For someone as old as he is in the singing realm. Even attempting this song takes guts
James sounds great here. Like, he's been on fire lately. Like in the old days
That jamming part was so awesome, the Mike Mangini drum line was incredible, so perfect, like were hearing Dave Weckl jazz fusion stuff
especially espectacularrrrrrr!!!! genial!!!
Mike Mangini brings the soul of this family back to life again... keep the spirit carries on
This band, is a legend. No more band like this until now #2019
Unreal performance. Amazing!
..still my number 1 band,,,love you guys! x
JODER, esto es tan perfecto y bien puesto en escena que lloro. Por siempre DT!!!!
