It's an issue with modern games in general where every company tries to make their game worlds as big as possible for the sake of making big without ever considering if it actually improves the game. While Pokemon is the biggest media franchise on the planet, GF has only ever made games for underpowered handhelds so they didn't have the experience on hand to make the jump to console quality. They pushed the NDS to the limit, but today they develop console games that belong on a handheld in terms of production values. The original RBY were a low barrier to entry for kids as the Gameboy was cheap and games priced well below console releases which helped get people into the franchise. Nowadays, Pokemon comes exclusivley on the Switch notoroius for no discounts ever on games with Pokemon being priced AAA with indie production values.

@a.x.x8184 I'm personally not a fan of Gen 5 as a whole. I played both the first and second games the first time they came out. :T To me, I feel like many of the things they implement sound great in theory. However, in execution, not very well. I feel like the first games were received so poorly that the sequels were almost an inevitably. To me, the sequels feel like a big bandaid effect on top of the same messy foundation of the first games. They fix some of the issues but not all of them. The sequels have their own problems like the large gap between badges 6-7 :/ It's a rather weird timing in the game. I've have a big distane of Gen 5. I'm actually hoping the remakes become some of the worst, even worse then BDSP. I genuinely hope people will finally see how without the sequels Gen 5 is one of the worst generations of all time. :T Gen 5 first games cant stand on their own without their sequels. I should clarify My first pokemon games where HGSS. Obviously I never expected any pokemon to ever reach the same amount of content. I feel very sorry for the people who did start with DP and having their first pokemon game's remake, not meet their expectations. :T It's really unfortunate, IMO.
