Someone should investigate these gaming companies for making failed games. It feels like they do this on purpose for illegal financial reasons.
I means if you ruthlessly limit your effort, and still get some sales based on brand recognition, I think that compares favorable financially with doing a more thorough rework or new game development.

The reason why the Cantina Band song is playing on Degobah is probably because, the Hero mode was originaly only available on Tatooine, which was the only map to have that song as an ambient noise. So when they exported it into other maps they probably copied and paste the song as well.

Hero Assault mode plays MULTIPLE songs like Lapti Nek
A 20 year old game that ran on the PS2 and OG Xbox that has a bigger file size than Elden Ring. No cross-play. Parts of the campaign literally just erased with no explanation. Changing settings crashes the game. A max of THREE (3) servers on launch day (????). It's like, hard to make it this bad. They didn't care in the slightest and they used our nostalgia for a quick buck. Thanks Aspyr very excited to see that shut down announcement in the next couple of months you worthless hacks
how many times will you fall for it? Devs have been doing this for a decade now, i never buy any games the day they come out. I usually wait a couple of years and grab it on sale too
@@christopheryoung2874I feel like that in the wake of the recent Dark Forces re-release and other re-releases such as the Quake ones, it would be reasonable to expect a game from the early 2000s to function properly on systems that would be considered NASA-grade supercomputers for the generations that these games were designed in. I don't blame people for this one, personally.
If you want a good alternate game check out squad with the galactic contention mod and you will easily forget this farce it has everything you ever wanted from a battlefront game.

They took a 20 year old game, gave it a new title, AI-upscaled textures (adds 0 value mods have already done this), and charged $35. Biggest scam I've ever seen.
They didn't even really upscale the textures. Sure, it looks better than the previous console versions. But the version of the game this re-release is based on is the PC version, and the PC version looks identical to this.
A lot of companies are doing this now (look at Sega for example) just pull down your existing PC classics then re-list them at full retail price, or as part of full retail bundles. People are buying it anyway, so why stop?
They made the Xbox DLC available for everyone, and made Heroes vs Villains available on all maps at least

Aspyr also stated that they won't even acknowledge bugs reported outside of their official forum, which you can't even do without creating an entire account for their forum. Oh, and online is *Region Locked,* so EU can't even play with NA, etc (the originals have no region lock, so this was deliberately added across all platforms). Even if you host your own match, players outside your region can't join you. The campaigns are also missing content, such as entire cutscenes for missions, and missing textures or incorrect textures on some levels and assets.

Tomb Raider Remastered was handled by someone who had thousands of hours in the original Tomb Raider games and knew the games inside out, the team for Battlefront Classic clearly did not have the same expertise nor the passion for the project. It's actually impressive how they managed to break the games, it should have been a license to print money. But then again I've asked that same question about Star Wars for years now.
For those who are not familiar with Aspyr, they have a long, looong history of doing precisely this: taking beloved games, making unplayable lazy ports, charging exorbitant prices for them, and never fixing them, especially when it comes to Star Wars games. Please let this company go out of business. Do not ever buy anything from them.

Honestly if you squint a bit, Helldivers is basically an evolved version of battlefronts galactic conquest (big galactic map where you jump planet to planet to have battles and take them over).
Warframe is free and doesn't require online subscriptions. Play that instead.

There needs to be regulations/legal ramifications releasing broken games like this. Almost every other industry if you sell a bad/faulty products there can be huge monetary and legal ramifications the video game industry is almost always exempt from (Cyberpunk 2077 at launch being a rare exception)

I said it on another video. It's baffling how they took two FINISHED games that were roughly 3 to 5gb's a piece, and turned them into one 63gb Unfinished trash. That's an achievement.
Its the high resolution textures. I was told they scaled all the texture resolutions up to 4k and 8kso that is a majority of the disk space there its roughyl 10x the original size.

Way back in the mid-late 2010’s, I formed a theory that Disney was purposefully sabotaging Star Wars so it wouldn’t be a threat to Marvel and their other franchises. But nowadays Marvel isn’t that great either, so idk what to think. But all this “fuckupery” seems way too frequent to just be because people are idiots.
The only thing they fucked up was the microtransactions.

I'm really sad. BF2 was the first game that I bought with my own money. I was hoping that this release would revive this classic, how wrong I was.
It’s okay I still own the physical pc copy and I’m enjoying the shit out of the classic collection non online….it also had one of my tonnage sons having fun playing co op…and that should be a success when my 2 oldest kids only play Fortnite and Roblox…and madden now (hopefully 2k5 thanks to me)

I'm sure they are just downloading libraries that have multiple codes for different things and only use one of them leaving garbage behind.
What's baffling is they took a 3 GB sized game and 4 GB sized game and combined them into a 50 GB sized collection. Yes the textures are a bit better but surely that's not what's adding 40 GBs to their combined size?! Has everyone who worked on this collection not been trained in any aspect of optimizing data?! You can literally fit the entire Dark Souls trilogy into those 50 GB of space!

I don't really think there's a genuine lack of competence, the competence exists but few are willing to pay for it... There's no lack of people looking for jobs or well "projects" to work on in this industry, so the studios just take whoever have the basic requirements and will accept even the most shi**y of contracts. Since the studios can just release trash over and over without wasting any finite resource(except manpower), you get this situation. Once they have dragged the studio trough the dirt a few rounds, the studio will just shut down and reopen under a new name.
Amazing how Aspyr managed to make a decent remaster of Tomb Raider trilogy, yet drop not a ball but a *meteor* so hard on Battlefront that it cratered....

I swear to god, all they had to do was just upscale the resolution to 4K, touch up the controls and visuals a bit, add some quality of life improvements like XP, challenges and medals

Man, people are literally Beta testing, not even, Alpha testing this shit show. The nerve to charge actual money for this is insane.
But even if it did work perfectly as it no doubt will in a week or a month’s time, that wouldn’t make it any less unacceptable to take a game that has been out forever, and then just re-release it for no reason at triple the price and 5x the file size. And only 2 player split screen, when the original had 4. It has no reason to exist whatsoever. The fan made remaster that has been out for years is literally one of the most popular things on ModDb, having won mod of the year multiple times. And that actually changes everything TC style. This is just a lazy a.i. upscale that is still basically all vanilla assets.

I remember seeing a comment, posted on Aspyr's trailer, from someone who shared their dreams regarding the collection and how they wanted to enjoy playing this in memory of their late brother. Now I just feel really sorry for that poor soul after so many positive expectations have gone to the dumpster.

No we didn't, we never lost the technology. Neither when it comes to the multiple moon landings (the last manned mission being Apollo 17, and unmanned landings are continuing to this day with Japan, China, and India being the newest countries to land on the moon) and we certainly can still release a complete game today.
Pandemic Studios Battlefront 1 and 2 were originally released on PC in the form of a physical CD-ROM disc and the jewel cases can still be found on Ebay today for as little as $4. The digital versions of the originals were first listed on Steam in 2019 (although pirated digital versions have existed ever since the games originally came out on PC in 2004).
Had the originals never been released on PC and no digital versions ever existed, there's no way Aspyr would've ever been able to remake a worse version of the original Pandemic Studios games. Hence why actual console exclusives can still only be played on emulators.
20 years ago this would not even be acceptable.
The only positive for PC players is that LucasGames/Aspyr didn’t delisted the classic Star Wars Battlefront games on Steam before and after this collection was released. At least one studio learned what happens when you delisted old games just to release a broken Definitive Edition!!!

I can't even get a fucking refund for this game, simply because I'm a PS5 player. Sony has a ridiculous refund policy where if you play or God forbid download the game, you can no longer get a refund. They are responsible because they sold me a faulty game. How was I supposed to know that a 20 year old game ported to a modern console wouldn't work? They allow you to download the game before it comes out too!

The competency crisis has well and truly gripped the gaming industry. This is what happens when big game companies are staffed top to bottom by mediocre people, many of whom don’t even care about the games they work on. Expect more of this across all our favourite games going forward.

That's missing a big part, which is companies treating developers like temporary commission work. Bring in the lowest cost option, have them crunch to release, then make them redundant. There are next to no career developers anymore and these are the results we'll get.
This is what happens when publishers close studios, fire hundreds of workers, FORCING institutional knowledge and experience out the door so they can only keep the newest & cheapest hires to do all the heavy lifting
I'd say it's a problem that's gripped the Western industry. In East Asia, you have publishers like Capcom and Bandai Namco releasing a number of great games, like Resident Evil 7 and Elden Ring to name a few.

Nah, it's because they treat developers as a liability. As a result, all the good ones have left. Only inexperienced ones are left behind. Imagine making the same money as a software eng but working double the hours - that is game development in a nutshell. Plus once the inexperienced ones get good, they know their worth, then they get fired.
Plus now they are just laying them all off. Expect to see even shittier games, and the eventual collapse of a bunch of game developers.

Never understood why there's even a need for remaster when the original is perfectly playable on steam with tons of mod support.
Added stability, expanded online functionality (ie Galactic Conquest online), crossplay, adding in former DLC, and general polish was what they needed and they failed on all fronts plus more.
Console players. Are you forgetting about them? Also, this collection was going to revive the online playerbase. In addition, it runs on a 64-bit engine, has proper controller support, and updated visuals. Remember, even on pc, most players don't touch modding, no matter how easy it is. Having a game that runs on modern hardware is important. It's bad practice to require users to download mods to fix things, which is why this collection was needed.

It'd be like remastering Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 into a collection and having them re-released to the modern consoles and Steam with the Source 2 engine, crossplay, and all of the extra content the PC version has gotten by now. Improving already great games while bringing them back to the whole gaming community.

The OG runs just fine without any mods the last time I lauch it. Mod support is just a plus. Also the OG basically can run on a potato at this point, why do you have to play it on a console? It's also the steam release we are seeing here.
Not sure about multiplayer scene on the OG, but ppl claim mp still work.

While the exaggerations can be overboard, we can most certainly agree that Triple AAA developers have too many greedy and incompetent people at the helm, who has undoubtedly taken every accomplished game that made the company by people who were passionate with their games for granted. And the most insulting thing about these people is that they ultimately cut and run when the profits from their games not only doesn't reach their unrealistic expectations, but even employees have been treated unfairly by them, to the points there are stories of abuse and even the sickening fact that corrupt leaders or upper management even threatens their career to be blacklisted if the victims speak out. Some investors and Shareholders had a hand depending on the circumstances that occurred. They refuse to learn anything, so they repeat their criminal activities somewhere else.
It don't matter what gets hot these days. The challenge is giving these disgraces the boot or leave their leadership to make their own place to make games. Put all of this together and you got an issue that is born of no passion to get things done right, it's just to get the most profits and unrealistically hope that people will buy incomplete games, live service or single to multi games with a ridiculous paywalls.

Larian’s work on Baldurs Gate 3 proves that it’s still possible to make a great game in today’s day and age. How this company managed to screw up a remaster of two of the most beloved games, decades old, is unfathomable. I’m no expert in coding or game design, but I think it’s safe to say that poor decisions were made. For example, how do you go from an under 10gb size to 60+?? I really hope they fix this mess.
Remember: Aspyrgers was the same studio who announced the KOTOR remake, and fucked it up so bad that the game was taken away from them and given to Sabre Interactive.

Perhaps it's because it's the raw development build. A redundantly high poly count for the models, extremely poor code optimisation and AI-upscaled textures to hell and back.
Perhaps the cutscenes of the singleplayer still exists, having been AI upscaled and left as raw and broken files.
Perhaps the audio files are just renamed to .ogg or whatever, whilst having been pure raw audio files.

Considering the mod projects I've seen (specifically in the Battlefront community too) I'm 100% convinced that unpaid modders could've done a better job creating this game, and they would've given it away for free.
Modders *almost* always do better. That's the difference that happens when you actually have passion and give a fuck about what you're making.
