As a current LEO, I also think LTL weapons are a great option. In most states you can only use deadly force (any weapon that in its design can cause serious bodily injury or death) in a self defense scenario. Most states have their own definitions for what constitutes self defense, but in TN for it to be a self defense case, you as the victim need to be able to articulate why you did what you did. This can be broken down into a few simple questions of whether the attacker, had the means, ability, and intent to cause you death or serious bodily injury. You will always be open to civil lawsuits no matter what kind of weapon you use against another person, as unfortunately, in the USA, you can pretty much sue anyone for any reason. The main takeaway from these LTL weapons is they provide you the ability to defend yourself by means other than harsh words or hand to hand fighting. Most people aren't black belts in a martial art, and most people can be defeated by size advantages (women, small men, elderly etc). These LTL weapons are a force multiplier and allow you the greatest advantage you can have, and that is the ability to create distance. In the LEO world, we always say "distance = time" and these weapons give you that time. They also are a great option for people who can't or don't want to own traditional firearms whether that be by law or locale. My only advice for people who decide to carry these weapons is the same as for people with firearms, research your local laws as they apply to carrying weapons, self defense and NEVER......I MEAN NEVER........produce a weapon unless you are ready and willing to use it. Great video as usual.
Also LTL options are good for people that live with family members that should not be around firearms. I keep LTL options because of this reason, and because lethal force is inappropriate in 99.95% of "self defense" situations.
@@AlternateArmsSD Also the "family members that can't be near firearms" aspect is a big one for me, firearm ownership isn't a good idea when you live with someone that has struggled with mental health. Firearm ownership and rates of successful suicide are unfortunately linear when graphed.
I'm with you Jon, I love guns, martial arts , but if I can end it with a less lethal option and no one really gets hurt, then you really are the winner . that is why I now have so many of these things now. something less lethal is now always on me. even if I am carrying a gun. on my duty belt is pepper spray but even then I have either a Penshot , Stickshot or the Pepperball Blast. I even use the Pepperball Blast training round for indoors, it will distract someone long enough for me to take them down and hand cuff them , even if I have to follow up with a kick. it beats maiming for life or killing someone.
Hey Jon I am glad you addressed the elephant in the room. so many people I guess do not understand the reality of things, less than lethal is a great alternative for sure, however for those that carry, the reality is, lets say a self defense situation, and you shoot and injure someone, there is a very high likelyhood you can go to jail, lets say you shoot and kill someone in self defense again very high likelyhood you will not only go to jail but it is possioble you could be sentenced to life in prison if say one of the family members takes you to court or something. While I personally won't carry one because a friend of mine had a bad run-in with a guy who just pushed through a whole mag of pepper balls that hit him center of mass and swung at him, I do really hope less than lethal solutions keep being iterated on and become viable for more scenarios. Some people will take experiences like that or cite various law enforcement studies that have called them insufficient and write them off. I don't like that attitude because it ignores the future. We need to get more R&D behind this stuff.
Generally, if a person pushes through a magazine of high quality pepper rounds (Which they use in riot control and prisons) then Id be willing to bet we are talking about a person heavily drugged up. In that case, a firearm wouldn't be a ton of use either. Fortunately, 99% of the self defense situations you might encounter wouldn't call for as lethal response and the drugged up zombies are few and far between. (Thank goodness) ;) Thanks for watching man!
Incorrect. In a true self defense situation, they have no more standing than if you use a firearm. Also, if you use a firearm, kill your target (and perhaps the person adjacent or behind them) then your life is as over as the person you killed. Brother, a VAST majority of self defense situations do NOT call for a lethal response. Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!

you were right the first time COMMIEFORNIA. I have been calling it that for years.
Hehe well, I’d like to think it was not the first time but I’ll take it :) . I’m actually running all over California for my day job this week. I’m in San Clemente at the moment.
I'm down South of you in San Marcos want to grab lunch?

I wonder, out loud to myself. Is not the powder used n the practice rounds somewhat Baby Powder? And, is not Baby Powder somewhat fluorescence? Therefore, if Jon were to fire a practice round in the dark with a Black Light on, would not Jon see the dispersion of the power? Asking for a friend. LOL
That’s a GREAT idea!!!! Let me see if it’s black light fluorescent. I’ll let you know!
how about ballistic flight path in cold air?
That is a great idea for a Test, unfortunately we live in Texas so I have a couple months before I’ll be able to do it :-) tell you what, I’ll dedicate an entire video to just that sometime in January or February when it’s super cold down here. I’ll ranges from 3m to 5m as well as 20m and we’ll see what happens.
@@AlternateArmsSD I feel like American ingenuity farting around with stuff like we're discussing right now is how those of us that enjoy it and those of us that just use it as a hobby separate and take things to a whole nother level I've just found your channel so this should be fun. Nice to meet you by the way
@@jonathanschadenfreude9603 I couldn’t agree more :-) well welcome to the family man :-)
Hello Jon, I sent you an email 4 days ago regarding a couple things I'd like to buy from you. I know you probably get hundreds of those every day so I have to wait, but just wanted to make sure you received it (maybe it ended up in your spam folder?)
Hey brother, not at all my friend. I’m actually in Los Angeles right now and I won’t be back in town until Sunday. However, I will jump on the emails tonight and see if I can get to responding. You can imagine it’s quite a tidal wave :-) I don’t get to you by today, though, I will definitely be talking to you by Sunday.
@@AlternateArmsSD Great! I'll be waiting 👍🏻
@@lucavernole7065 yeah man, I’m so sorry. Sorry for the delay. My day job has me running around in Los Angeles for seven days. One of these days, I can feel it coming in the future, this will be my full-time job :-)
@@AlternateArmsSDStill waiting for a reply here... 😊
@@lucavernole7065 hey brother, I think I replied to your email. Do me a favor and send me another one just so that I can be sure.
Bam Bam Bam you are correct they even tell you that on regular gun shows shoot until the threat stops being one as for Huston Jones I don't think he's a comedian he's a nut but I like him still crazy though
Why should you use a less than lethal solution........ So the bad guy can sue you.
Jon, you are so gracefull and not a retaliater. Love you man! @@AlternateArmsSD
Recommending less lethal is reckless and will get someone killed. There is no room for compassion in self defense.
ROFL! I suppose that’s one “perspective”. :) You do realize that a vast majority of self defense situation do not call for lethal response. Thanks for watching and welcome to the family!
