An ancestor of mine had a story about a pepperbox. He was an early Mormon who became an outfitter in in Nebraska for wagon trains headed to UT. He apparently has a lot of interactions with Native Americans both good and bad. Once in NB he was approached by a party of Indians which he greeted respectfully but when one of the party grabbed the reins of one of his horses he brandished an old pepperbox...which immediately changed the plans of the party. Shortly thereafter some of his wagons were pilfered. A day later he was parlaying with a party of Native Americans when he noticed one of the braves wearing one of his missing shirts. He jumped up and yanked the shirt off the brave much to the amusement of the other braves. Have many old west family connections and stories including Kit Carson, Tom Tobin, Charles Goodnight, Clay Allison, founders of a 2.5 mil acre ranch who were the basis for characters in Centennial.
I was watching a video here in youtube about the fact that the German army in Franco Prussian war didn't have a standard revolve for the offices not german made they use single percussion pistols ! This pepper box will be very handy for them back then! Thanks for sharing
I know where there's a couple of them, at least one being an original. I can't do the newer ones, they just don't look right. Very cool video Santee! I didn't know you could tap-dance!
I will forever be mystified how besides your own interesting commentary, and that of your friends, and colleagues, how you always manage to find accompanying audio and video clips.🥳 BTW, that was pretty good steppin'... 👏🏻😂🎉 It is hard to envision a cowboy wearin' tap shoes though.🙃😉🤭 super video, as always, Santee & Company.🎊
I have an affinity for the late 1800s firearms including the percussion revolvers. I have replicas of the Griswold and Gunnison, Remington 1858 New Army and a Colt Walker dragoon. I would like to get a Le Mat’s revolver one day and if one of the Italian manufacturers would make a decent one of these pepper box revolvers I would like to get one. Those things are so cool. I can imagine walking down the street with one tucked into my belt and people wondering what it is. Fantastic video on, in my opinion, an iconic weapon.

Hi Santee, nice to see you give Karl from In Range a shout out. I wonder if you carried two of them they were called "salt and pepper boxes?" Thanks for all your hard work and time Sir you are appreciated! 🤠🇺🇲
So very informatively interestingly awsome video, I really liked and enjoyed it, I got a lot of inspiration for my old west frontier, retro, antiquw ,vintage and video games inspired new writing projects and I learned alot the history of the pepperbox revolver and the old west frontier. Great job, well done and keep up the great work. Im definitly going to add old west revolvers to my storys world alongside muskets and retro video game assesseries as weaponry. The interconnected shorter stories Im writing now is about the mystery of the Tasmamon'Yuogo Cards known as the Black Corruptus card and the Vickah Card and the stories are also about tge hauntings of locations known as The Black Spruce Woods, StormCove Bay and StormCove Isle, thats a island that hasd been torn to pieces by a unusually strong storm.
@ArizonaGhostriders thanks. The part of my stories that Im writing right now is where my characters Lynkth and Zurnna alongside a three others named SMG5'Maru, Luniiji and Xelna are at a location known as Plethoria CastleManor Hall, where they met up with SMG7'Mharzoh, after leaving the nearby Alunska Frontierland CampGround Park a few hours before, where they had found a training card collection case with the name 'Xeldarian Westlington Haslo' on it. That characters nickname is Xertuh/Xayzel.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Your welcome. Im going to now get back to my mario ,zelda and other video games inspiration as well as AI art and films and the SMG4 animated TH-cam series for even further story inspiration. I,m also going to go back to writing parts 3,4 and 5 of my interconnected shorter stories.
I'd love to see like a fictional character with a pepperbox as his main weapon. Like he carries multiple loaded pepper boxes in some kind of special holster or something.
I own a reproduction pepper box made by the Hoppes Oil company in 1975-1978. It was a kit gun chambered in .32 caliber six shot single action. Fired once.
Thanks again , Santee & Co. I'll look into Legal Heat . I have my South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit , and we're a Con Carry state . I'm a member of Right To Bear . 🐻
I bought a reproduction pepperbox in the early 1980s. It had a shield and seldom chained fired as long as you got balls big enough to shave a little ring of lead off them
I like the way your buddy said most defensive shootings were within 5 yards. When I was a cop we were taught most today are within 7 & 1/2 feet. (In the same room, often across the table)
@ the really ironic thing is we were taught that most were that close BUT, if a knife wielding attacker approached closer than 12 feet we were allowed (encouraged) to use deadly force before he could “close the gap.”
I remember seeing some old tin types in a museum of miners showing off their pepperbox revolvers. I also remember seeing a pair of suspenders/races with holsters sewn into the straps for a single shot pistol or a pepperbox revolver. And I wish that someone would bring back the 5 shot .36 or 6 shot .32 pepperbox. I personally would buy 2.
Awesome seeing one demonstrated, especially an original. I believe I had a plastic model of one of these as a kid in the early sixties. I think they were made by Lindberg. Too fragile for child's play, unfortunately. Amazing that a kit for a real one was once made. The examples shown appear to be a lot smaller than I expected. But me... kid... little. Maybe the model I had just seemed bigger.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I went and looked it up. It was first made by Lindberg. They went out of business and the molds were bought by Pyro, who I believe actually made them for longer than Lindberg. There were a whole bunch of crazy historic firearms in the series.
Sorry to see that your tap dancing didn't work to pay the bill😂. Anyway, what a great episode and thank you so much for sharing your wonderful history and facts. Thank you.

@ Arizona Ghostriders… Back when I was with the Border Renegades, Rob was also a member of the group. Love the pepperbox. Wish I had an Allen and Thurber. I do have a Pietta pepperbox even though I know it is not historical. This was a good video but there is a missed opportunity for a ''pew-pew'' from Mrs Santee here!
Yeah, you're right.
The pepperbox revolver was also the main gun of the board game CLUE
So I hear.
I remember seeing pepperbox kits selling at Big 5 for about $25 when I was a kid (in the '70's). Wish I had bought one back then!
Yeah, right?
Yup, those were the days. I remember going into Montgomery Wards hardware store to get ammunition. They always had some nice guns on their racks.
