The manual transmission in the MX-5 Miata its a blast to drive. So light & nimble - that Mustang weighs 1500 pounds more - its a porker. Plus the top goes up & down in less time than the Mustang takes for just an up or just a down. Plus the MX-5 Miata is naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine which means it will last longer because it runs cooler. Much cheaper than that ECO Boost turbo. The Miata is always the answer JOE !
Ford missed an opportunity by not reviving the SVO nameplate for this Mustang. It would have been a nod to the past and definitely sounds better than “ecoboost mustang”.
Good review. Miata starts at $30k and I believe is much more reliable than the Mustang. But the Miata is very low and hard to exit. Also not much room. However the Mustang trunk looks chopped up space wise. Still considering the Mustang for our next car. Must be a convertible and auto trans is good.
Price and quality work for Miata. Size is big advantage of mustang plus has more power too. Handling is better in Miata. Is it worth spending $10-$20 more for the Ecoboost? Test and compare the experience. I have a Miata A’s weekend toy and SUV as a daily. Ecoboost could be daily and cover both the fun of convertible and practical daily with mpg and space!
I’m guessing that old style antenna is required to get the height needed for signal strength. If they integrate the antenna into that trunk puck, it would reduce the signal strength because it’s too low to the ground.
Actually I think the fastback has the FM antenna in the rear window. The pucks or fins are just for satellite radio. So with the top down, an antenna in the rear window would not work.
Nice looking car, great review. Not a fair comparison maybe, but: I bought a new 2001 Mustang GT Premium convertible for $23,000. Was a great deal at the time. It seems 20+ years later Ford has added an iPad to the dash, took away 4 cylinders, and pumps in "sound". Sigh..
The wheels and tires on that car are too small it should have dark horse size wheels and tires on the car and why does it not have a rear wing/spoiler ?
You gotta be pretty old to remember but this 2024 restyle mimics the '67 with the more open and angular grille, muscular body and the deeply inverted rear panel and taillamps. The new dash is controversial but does harken back to the much beloved Fox body dash design. The ecoboost engine is lighter and allows a better handling car than the GT. If you need to drive like a maniac, need to reach 100mph in a second quicker, have tens of thousands of dollars for sale price, insurance, tax and fuel then definitely get the GT -if only to prove your manhood to all within earshot with the "hey look at me" loud exhaust.
Great review, but there is no chance I’m buying a 4cyl Mustang for $46K. The V8 sounds amazing and life is too short to get dumbed down versions of what you really want. 😎
Yah but if U boost up any V8 of any year old or new, it'll re-outcompete a lower displacement forced induction engine again, that's something nobody ever mentions or think about.. bigger is always going to be stronger faster and tougher...
350 torque gives you so much more power. Almost 400 torque on a 4 cylinder turbo makes you think you have a much bigger engine. And with the daul throttle bodies on this ecoboost will finally stand up to the turbo and not crap out. Ford is thinking smart
I saw a nice Darkhorse today. Those taillights and that weird concave rear end look hideous in person. Everything else looked amazing. Maybe it’ll grow on me……maybe.

Joe, the fake vents look good. Who wants to see a bland piece of gray metal? Happy New Years Eve!
Just FYI, Joe, that the 2.3 in this Mustang has ZERO relation outside of size to the old Mazda 2.3 or the old Mustang SVO 2.3
Both seem pretty sweet but I like the Mustang a lot more.
My 2021 GT w/many Bells and Whistles cost the same........Lol😊
The old skool antenna is for indian buyers they love this thing ❤❤
i hate that ford dropped the heat extractors. my simple 19 ecoboost have them. the plain hood looks dumb.
Sigh..
Just got back from the Florida Keys and I saw like a few hundred of these non-committal automatic S650 convertibles.
Oh I can just imagine.
Priced to high for a 4 banger. All 4 bangers priced to high from all manufacturers
I think all cars are.
They ruined it with those laptops on the dashboard, completely..
The price point on the GT needs to be kept in check...!!!
The wheels and tires on that car are too small it should have dark horse size wheels and tires on the car and why does it not have a rear wing/spoiler ?
Fake vents on sport car is automatically zonk. If you already put effort to make it look like a vent make it functional.
I don't get it why don't they make a manual transmission on that one if they have it on the GT V8 engine.
They did not sell many.
I just realized that there aren’t any paddle shifters on this Mustang
Great review, but there is no chance I’m buying a 4cyl Mustang for $46K. The V8 sounds amazing and life is too short to get dumbed down versions of what you really want. 😎
This is so very true!
For some reason these new mustangs are uglier in person but look good in photos.
Yah but if U boost up any V8 of any year old or new, it'll re-outcompete a lower displacement forced induction engine again, that's something nobody ever mentions or think about.. bigger is always going to be stronger faster and tougher...
On the convertible you loose a few cubic feet of space + the rear seats do not fold down.
350 torque gives you so much more power. Almost 400 torque on a 4 cylinder turbo makes you think you have a much bigger engine. And with the daul throttle bodies on this ecoboost will finally stand up to the turbo and not crap out. Ford is thinking smart
Wow it does sound a little better lol 😆
I saw a nice Darkhorse today. Those taillights and that weird concave rear end look hideous in person. Everything else looked amazing. Maybe it’ll grow on me……maybe.
