edvin kaziunas thing is about drunk drivers is because of their skewed decision making, they think they’ll be fine, as they overestimate themselves. They think they won’t be “that person” who got into a car crash.
They’re wrong. It’s sad how common it is. I’m not old enough to drive, and I know I need to but part of me doesn’t want to. I may be able to trust myself to operate a vehicle someday, but I can’t trust others to.

If someone is intoxicated enough to be a danger while driving, they are intoxicated enough not to consider the hazards of drunk driving. Therefore, a PSA:
If you are entering a situation in which intoxication is a possibility, have a safe ride plan in place BEFORE you drink.
If you are sober and a companion is considering driving while drunk, offer to drive instead. If anyone is considering driving drunk, please try to stop them.

I hate drunk drivers with the intensity of a million exploding suns... When I was 2 my parents were rear-ended by a drunk driver almost killing them both and the 3 other people in the tiny car (it looked like a crumpled piece of red paper). Luckily I wasn't in the car when it happened. If I had been I would have died. I was sitting on my mom's lap (1994 no one gave a fuck) in the back seat but a friend of the family had me go in her car so my mom could be comfortable. She saved my life. I'll never forget asking why l was at another family friends house for so long and why a hadn't seen my parents in a while and then having the truth told to me. I was inconsolable for days. Please don't drink and drive.

I'd like to propose that it should be mandatory for anyone who gets their license either be shown the body of a drunk driver's dead victims in gory detail, or have to look in the eyes of a person who survived but their friends didn't. The people (or their families) traumatizing them straight would be picked on a voluntary basis and compensated like any lecturer would.

I feel like it should be a law weither if you go to a bar or somewhere involving booze you should have to give up your keys. Write your name down and give them your i.d. and when your done for the night you go back to that person tell them your name and shit and extra info. Then your only allowed to get your keys back if you pass a breathalyzer test. If you fail by even a small margin you get a cab called to take you home and a card out under your wipers to let tow trucks know not to haul your car until further told to do so.

    • @jessicataylor7174

@@lightbearer1550 I agree with your intention but the plan is fundamentally flawed - not everyone arrives at a bar in a vehicle (are you not going to serve me, a non-driver, because I don't hand in keys?) and if they're irresponsible and know they only need to say they don't drive to avoid handing in the keys they'll just do that. It also makes the bar liable for the driver, consequences that occur after the customer vacates the premises and the car itself while they are there (and potentially overnight etc too).
People who drive under the influence should face huge fines and possible prison simply for failing a breath test...it works in Singapore. They do not have jails full of drivers who were a little over the limit; people just don't drive if they have have anything to drink because it's not worth the risk.

Woke up in an ICU with my mom sitting next to me, who got a doctor over to my bed. He asked me if I knew where I was and I did a small look around and told him "Well, this isn't my bedroom, so I am going to guess a hospital." Turned out I had a seizure, fell down a flight of stairs, dislocated my shoulder, nearly broke my hip and bled all over the floor in the house.
My next comment was "Oh, so I didn't just dream about my shoulder getting popped back." I think the nurses hated me because despite the bruising across most of my hip and leg I still insisted on hobbling to the toilet and closing the door. I need my privacy.

re drunk drivers: After I worked a year in ED I have a special feeling for drunk drivers. When they arrested, I tried as hard as I did for anyone else to bring them back, and sometimes we succeeded. I also helped treat their victims, and I realized that saving lives is not always ethical. Years later, I worked in correctional health, and some inmates, trying to tell me that they weren't like other criminals, told me that they were only in for DIU. I agreed that they were different from most, but not in the way they thought. I considered them morally equal to child molesters and rapists, because I knew they would continue to ruin lives or kill after release, but I treated them the same as everyone else.

@Bailey Well I.. it should depend on whether you being drunk has caused an accident or if it's a recurring thing right? If you've been driving while drunk once in your life, that's 'not as bad, but hell no that's not acceptable if you've caused the death of innocent lives, especially children imo, in an accident as a drunk driver.

    • @jelica9475

@Bailey 3 little girls crossing the street for school with a crossguard at 7:00 AM. One man. Drunk. Her tiny 3'4' body trapped under his car, it took him .8 mile to stop because he couldn't grasp how the body on his windshield was "messing up his tires at the same time." 2 girls, ages 6 and 7 died but 3rd girl age 6 made it, paralyzed for life. Crossguard lived but was destroyed mentally. The girl trapped under the car, who was drug to death over the course of most of a mile was my family. I have survived rape, she did not survive the drunk driver. Drunk drivers are not "better than" rapists. They are equal. ONE CALL TO A CAB would have saved lives. They are just as evil, selfish, destructive and deadly. Worst part? Drunk drivers serve LESS TIME, it is 100% preventable BUT because they "didn't mean to" they serve less. AND they have a handy "EXCUSE" to blame their own actions on, "the alcohol made me".... My family served life. Stacy was buried, she never got another day. Most people can survive rape and child molestation. Drunk drivers are MURDERERS. How can you say they are" better"? Just because they didn't kill someone...."this time"? Drunk drivers, rapists & child molesters all re-offend. They are not better than each other, they are ALL victimizers to satisfy their OWN SELFISH WANTS AND DESIRES without a single thought to the damage they cause others.

This was about 2 years ago, I was 15 at the time. I had gotten a really severe cough where I was literally hacking up a lung every 2-3 seconds, and everyone commented on it, however, my parents refused to take me to the hospital. They thought it would just blow over. I remember one night, it had gotten really bad, my mom was out of the house so I was watching my brother. I remember collapsing on the stairs, and that was it. Next thing I know, I woke up being rushed into the ER, since it was the only thing open at the time. Apparently, I had been coughing so much and so hard that I had passed out from too much oxygen (yes, that's a thing) on the bottom step of the stairs, where my mom came home and found me. I was diagnosed with Bronchitis, given Codine, and sent home. Apparently my mom saw me talking and moving in the car on occasion, but I don't remember any of it. Morale of the story, if your son is practically coughing his lungs out of himself every 2-3 seconds for 2 weeks, take him to the doctor, and don't let him go to work. I worked at subway, and yes, worked multiple days with bronchitis because my mom wouldn't take me. She's since learned her lesson about things like that and takes me to the doctor for anything.

Seven years ago (I was 10), i got into an accident with one of those motor scooters you stand and ride on, and from what i was told a kid rammed me with his bike and i couldn't dodge the collision. The helmet i was wearing caught on my chin by the clip and tore it open, so it prompted a cat scan and eventually an MRI scan to make sure everything was okay (I had a concussion and dont remember anything at this point.) When i finally come to, im in this white room getting stitches in my chin and they tell me i have a brain tumor. Later appointments reveal that the brain tumor, which is unoperable, causes what's called hydrocephalus and if the accident hadn't happened i wouldve died from too much pressure on the brain in about a year or two at most. But because it was found, they were able to releive the pressure (its not curable however) and im still here. I thank the kid who rammed me, he, and that helmet saved my life

We were at grandma's house and she had a full length mirror, so naturally we hugged and tried to pass through the mirror. Spoiler alert, it didn''t work. But at least we didn't break Grandma's mirror.

My neighbor (clean for 25+ years now) woke up in the Gary, Indiana Morgue on a Wednesday afternoon when he was 19, with a tag on his toe. Heroin, lots of heroin. He said that was the first time he ever really considered a need to get clean, but it was a multi-year journey after that. I asked him if he knew what had happened but he told me he had no other info, he refused to be seen by a doctor - as in: after the horror of being in the F*king morgue wore off he demanded to know where his wallet and shoes were from a even more freaked out technician, had them returned from a locker, made sure his $10 and $5 were in there, and then walked out. The technitian tried to convince him to stay and he asked if they would like to fuck with someone who just got up in the morgue and wanted to leave. He left the morgue.

One day I stood up and immediately became confused about why I was on the floor, but otherwise was fine. Everyone else was upset. Stood up again and was sitting on a chair. Everyone was much more upset. I said I wasnt feeling well and was just going to get some rest in my room. Stood up. then I was telling everyone not to call the paramedics, because I was fine. Still confused about why everyone was upset.
Paramedics showed up, I protested but my family was worried so I agreed to go with them and stood up. Then I was in the hospital.
I'm told I passed out at least 13 times, every time I stood up. I of course didn't remember any of it, because I was passed out when it happened. Had some IV thingy they said was just to make sure I was hydrated. Eventually with the doctor there they let me try to stand up again.. And I did. After a boring hour and making sure i wasnt going to pass out, I was allowed to go home.
No one ever figured out why it happened. It had never happened before, or since. That was a weird day.

Apparently, Monday I had taught my classes and as I was driving home, I was T-boned by an 18 year old with no driver's license. My car was totaled and I lost all memory of Monday. I was in the hospital for a week with a broken pelvis (that they couldn't do anything about except prescribe pain medicine and teach me to walk with crutches). I was biking home from the gym, about 2-3km from home, and had just left. Next thing I know, I’ve woken up in an ambulance with my host dad there (year abroad) and I can barely string together a coherent sentence or understand anything since everyone‘s speaking in my second language. Turns out a neighbor found me unconscious on the side of the back road only like 30 meters from home and recognized me. They called the ambulance and just ran and grabbed my host family. I was severely concussed and had to miss almost a month of school because the headaches got so bad in lessons. I still have absolutely no memory of what happened between leaving the gym parking lot and crashing so close to home, it’s kinda surreal. 4 seasons of a high contact sport in school and that’s the one time I managed to get a concussion. I woke up in the hospital not knowing where I am and with no memories of getting there. The last thing I remember is drinking warm moonshine from a guy two years my senior from his flask. Apparently I had vomited all over the place and just passed out in my vomit on the grass. That’s how I was remembered for the next years. Had to endure nasty comments made by the teachers as well. Still didn’t regain my memories from that day, but maybe it’s for the better. It’s been more than a decade now, I’m sure that nowadays, it would have been all over social media. Had tonsils removed, 2 days later I was at home and was super nauseous. Being a 5 year old, my logic was to drink water to keep from throwing up. I remember running to the bathroom and being sick, I freaked out and yelled for my dad...I had thrown up an insane amount of blood. Fresh blood. Dad starts screaming for mom, I throw up again. More of the same, only this time my mom sees and freaks. I remember being on the back seat of my moms car, the streetlights zipping by over head, being in the elevator going to the OR, watching them put in an IV and not being able to feel it, and being so so cold. I woke up 5 days later...apparently when the DR took out my tonsils he knocked the artery. While the scab was on the cut it was fine, the scab had come off and I was literally bleeding to death, swallowing all the blood till I couldn’t hold any more. I received 9+ blood transfusions and spent 12 days in ICU total 3 of which I was unconscious and labeled “touch and go”. My neck had to be immobilized and I couldn’t eat or drink until the cut healed completely. Had a feeding tube and catheter, couldn’t get out of bed...which was torture for a 5 year old kid. Great thing was getting to eat all the ice cream I wanted after my throat healed!

I'd ended up smashed and tried to cross the road at about 1.30am. I believe I looked the wrong way (Brit in Germany) and stepped out when nothing was coming from the right. A large van was coming from the left!

I'm also a diabetic. I had been for a couple of years and had a good handle on it, but my doctor had just recently switched me to a new type of insulin. That night, I was playing Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm. I was super excited to play it, had been waiting for years for it to release. One of the very first levels is on a snow covered planet with lots of ice, snow, freezing weather, etc.
At some point while playing, my blood sugar had dropped so low it was affecting my ability to think. I felt like I was genuinely lost somewhere in the snow and I couldn't figure out how to get out or save myself. Everytime I tried to play, I got that same sensation of being utterly lost in the snow. My brain was already not working right, so it never occured to me that my sugar was low or that something was wrong, so I just went to bed thinking i'd be able to do better in the morning.
I guess the usual warning signs from getting low were suppressed because I was so excited about playing that game for the first time after waiting so long for it and I was also pretty tired. It was one of those midnight release situations if I recall.
Anyway, I went to sleep then woke up surrounded by 4 paramedics, two of which were holding me down. They said someone tried to wake me up and I wouldn't get up so they called 911. However, I wasn't completely unconscious, I was in an almost zombie-like state and I would attack anyone who came near me while I was laying in the bed. They had to hold me down and inject me with that sugar shit they have on hand directly into my blood stream. Within seconds my higher brain functions started coming back online and that was when I regained actual consciousness from my own perspective.
I had no memory of any of it. I just woke up in that moment and was like, "What is going on?"
They let me go and I was completely fine. They wanted to take me to the hospital but I refused to go. Blood sugar is blood sugar and mine had been brought back up, I was no longer in danger. Nothing the hospital could have or would have done except give me an enormous bill for nothing.
I was totally fine though, but I sometimes remember that weird sensation of being lost in a blizzard. I still have very clear and vivid memories of being lost in that snowstorm, but I have absolutely no memory of attacking people the next morning.
    The brain is fucked up.

Yeah I am also a diabetic. I remember one time having an aura (basically a pre seizure seizure) at a Trader Joe's. The one I had was specifically a depersonalization disorder aura (you are conscious but have no control over your body. Feels like you are a robot) anyways since my body was obviously craving sugar, it went to the sample stand. I asked the employee working there if I could have some apple cider (which was apparantly said in a slur) they answered yes, but instead of taking one of the sample cups that they have I took a jug of apple cider, opened it, and chugged it. My brother (who was there at the time but had no idea I was having an aura) said the workers thought I was mentally handicapped.

I was 9 and had just gotten my tonsils taken out. Got severely dehydrated and thought I passed out. Last thing I remember is my mom telling me we needed to go to the hospital, I said I was fine then woke up in the hospital.
My mom filled me in on the missing time between when I said I was fine and when I woke up in the hospital. Apparently I walked out of the house, sat awake in the car for the 30-45 minute ride to the hospital, walked into the hospital, fell asleep on the hospital bed then woke up 5 minutes later not knowing how I got there.
Good thing my mom took me to the hospital, probably saved my life. (If you see this) Thanks mom ❤️

In my early 30's I was riding pillion on a 4 wheeler with my best friend. We wrecked, hit an empty boat trailer parked half in the road and half in someone's front yard. I woke up in the hospital 5 days later and saw my mother reading a book in the corner and I asked her if I could go home. They released me but I had to be supervised for a few months. My friend was killed and I was helicoptered to the hospital in a coma....I remember nothing....and I miss my friend. I'm 47 now and I've learned that time doesn't really heal anything, it doesn't get better you just learn to live with it.

"Woke up" in a hospital bed one day with no idea why I was there. I had gall bladder surgery the week before an developed septicemia, a hospital acquired blood infection. They thought I was going to die because I was so sick.

I just passed out, we were on a college activity, our group was assigned OUTSIDE luckily we were near by a hospital, doctor says later after askinge questions that it was me not being able to eat my breakfast and not having enough sleep, I did not anymore explained that there’s too much college works and too early schedules, or else I might come off as someone blaming the university like many lying student ones did, but she gave me a letter to give to my advisor regarding my health, she said her daughter is also a college student, she knows how things are going for me. I bet she knew by my uniform and my group mates. Such a nice lady that I gave her a lucky crystal the next day.
