Play through them at 2x speed, and the screen time would be halved... Or you get to watch 2x the content in a day.

10 days without smartphones? These teens are about to experience a real survival challenge! 📵😂 But honestly, it’s eye-opening to see how much screens shape our daily lives. Maybe it’s time we all take a little ‘digital detox’ and reconnect-with family, hobbies, and even our local community. 🇸🇬 Instead of endless scrolling, why not explore a new café, visit a local bookstore, or support a homegrown business? What would YOU do if you had to go 10 days without your phone? Let’s talk! 🙌✨

The teens are really funny. Especially the football player when he mentioned the toughness of Nokia phones and was promptly told he would have no phone at all if he damaged his phone.

    I challenge the parents, too.
Let's say 8h a day since they need it for working.
To be honest, my tablet alone has average of 8h screen time.
Well... I use my tablet more than my phone everyday but I uses my PC around 3-5h a day.
I am effectively not using any screens only when I am sleeping.
So... I am pretty confident that limiting screen time is impossible as you grow since it is literally your source of everything: work, entertainment, relationships, shopping, payment.

    • @Dominus_Potatus

I do agree that no screen time unless TV, the dumb TV until grade 6 and limited screen time that gradually increases as you grow.

I really relate to Jairus here. I watch all my videos at 2x speed, I just find it more suited for me as I can catch up on the topics or creators I like quickly and then using the rest of my available time doing other things. Sometimes I even play videos in picture in picture or in multi-window mode just so that I can have it in the background while working or gaming. If I missed out on something I can just rewind 5 sec or switch it back to 1x to get that specific part and then put it back to 2x again. If I need time to process the information before moving on, I can just pause it.
For gaming wise, I do find pulling the LAN cable a bit too much. While I do understand why it was needed, I also feel that parents should start trusting their childs more in being able to manage their time well and for them to know what their limits are. Its like the saying where if you want your child to act or be like an adult, you got to first treat them like adults. There has to be a 2 way mutual agreement, talk it out.
I'd say most of the times the reason why they weren't able to leave the game immediately when you tell them to, it's because they were mid way in making progress and if they were to leave at that moment, they may lose all their progress that day or they will get a penalty from the game for abandoning a match if it were a competitive multiplayer game. Others (as in strangers) may also get mad at them for ruining their match's run too, which in turn the worse of worse cases can lead to cyber bullying, potential threats, leaking of personal information, hacking, the list can go on because to them your child just ruined their day and its all because of a simple LAN unplug. So best to wait until you know your child gets to their safe space in game, watch them log out and shut down their device themselves.
If anyone reading the gaming part doesn't understand I'll put it in another way. Imagine back in the day where you are hosting TV for a huge gathering with strangers and friends and it was an important show could also be soccer, there is no reruns and there will be an incredible VIP guest or lucky number which will land you a lot of money in the lottery. And because it's old TV there's no pause button and there's no rewind either. If someone were to switch the TV off mid way, you may have lost out on not just watching the show, but also potentially seeing the lucky numbers or that VIP guest everyone wanted to see. Those people will get mad at you (the one who organized the meet up) and start to riot, they will hate you for a long time even letting the whole neighborhood know, spread potential fake rumors of you , maybe throw paint or eggs at your walls, loan money under your name, all because that someone switched off the TV and it wasn't you.
I wish I was joking but its literally the same.

8hrs a day screen time on average for our teens. I wonder what about the usage for adults? Is there a healthy and unhealthy range for adults or because we're already adults, it doesn't matter? My daily average screen time is 3-4 hrs and I'm in the same age group as Darren and Evelyn.

8:36 Darren and Evelyn, you don't need your internet service provider for that lock-out. Your router's app should have a feature for you to designate internet lockout schedules, and for some models, you can even apply the lockout to individual devices so that the pc won't have internet access but your mobile phones can still connect to the internet via the router's wifi signal, for example. Or your sons' mobiles can be denied internet access while yours still have access.

  • @winstonl1629

I submit to you that screentime control is too vague. It's about APP CONTROL.
If one is hooked on instagram or tiktok for 5 hours daily, delete that app or impose restriction on that app. That will instantly reduce screentime.

These subjects is a mental illness called Digital Hoarding. It's an OCpD (Obsessive Compulsive Personal Disorder). If you want to 'cure' then you must get the psychologist and psychiatrist to do their job that is get into the roots of the problem. Though we already know the answers either trauma or loosing something in their childhood.

I think kids should be screen limited and supervised also no one under 12 should own a smartphone. But once you get to middle school without a smartphone you will get bullied and feel left out. Also having one is a safety feature because you can call or text your parents and friends+parents can track their kids(something that's impossible with a flip phone.)

Honestly, 8 hrs is fine but it does depend on what you do. I understand what the parents are going for but they seem slightly heavy handed. Setting the rules is good and should be upheld but pulling out the lan cable is excessive.
For me, I'm on my phone all the time even at work as it helps with my adhd. As a teen parents were generally OK with my phone and computer usage as long as I keep up my cca and grades to socialise and get away from my devices.

Its good...Phones are REALLY BAD FOR US. I say this as a person with ADHD and a gen z. Please, let your kids stay away. 🙏
I need accountability and I need "checks". I work in the legal field and need to study FOR 8 HOURS...with phone...its 2-3 hours. Without phone, its around 6-8. I feel happier, satisfied, accomplished. Phone drags me towards depression.
**Also, PC games are better** compared to phone and Physical activity like swimming, ski and other sports like football are also the best option to build a community and enjoy.
Also, I would like to add that i do watch everything in 2x...because of my attention span and then I give tests onthat topic. The best way to retain info is to give at least 3 tests on all important topics 🙂

It’s really depending on one’s preference imo.

These children are weak tbh. They became too dependent on those phones. They have to clue or have no capacity to explore the outside world.

Seriously they should spend some time in underdeveloped countries and see how lucky and fortunate they are to have a phone.

@@insanhatyI didn't say or imply that they shouldn't use their phone 🙏 I am saying that if one is poor, that person can't afford these luxuries and if one is able to afford, they are lucky and fortunate compared to many people. The ones able to afford to buy should empathise with the poor and be grateful for the things they have 🙏
