      start a youtube channel and go test drive cars and video it and hope to hell you are likeable enough to get subs.
      and hey even if you're shit on, you still will get $$ as long as your videos get views.

    This man really dont know how to drive. I got 5.55 in with my dodge challenger R/T which only got 375 HP about half the amount of the Hellcat. The srt8 with a real driver can do mid 4s. This thing will easily do mid 3s. You just need a real driver

      @MyRealName 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      oh please tell us what kind of magic would make this car do mid 3s. it's poorly engineered and therefore has a very bad traction. it can't make use of it's power, tipical american car.

      CroGamer1 anybody who ever driven a Muscle car with a big V8 knows that you can't just floor the throttle from a dead start because all what you will get is a lot of tyre spin probably a burnout even if it was an automatic. it needs some skills. and another reason why the car didn't launch proprely is that they didn't turn the traction control off. if you ever drove a real muscle car you should know that.

  • @jeffgoldenfry
    @jeffgoldenfry 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I know thats not the fastest this car can do 0-60, but a 2013 mustang gt can do it in 4.7 with anybody in the car so.... and the mustang has almost 300 less horsepower. Not trying to be a fanboy, just saying...

      A dedicated drag strip would probably help the time too. This looks like a straight on a race track that they just blocked off to do some standing start runs. A real drag strip has had so many cars go down it that there is rubber embedded into the surface and it gives better launches.

      Those days are gone. Now days most cars are automatic with either AWD or Launch Control. So driver doesn't matter as much as it would in a RWD manual car with no electronics to aid acceleration.

      ***** That's what he is saying... That's why the driver is irrelevant. Launch Control + Automatic trans = a 5 year old can launch the car just as well as a pro as long as he can reach the pedals.

    Well that is seriously embarrassing. Even the expert couldn't get it under 4.7 seconds. I'm sure people are going to say, "But it had the wrong tyres," or, "the conditions were wrong," but the bottom line is in a car on a sunny day with launch control you should be pretty damn close to the claimed numbers. That was way off. It's a typical case of over powered engine bolted to a shit chassis.

    It's funny to read all the comments about how slow the car is. Most people commenting have never been on a dragstrip, let alone drive a car with that much hp. Getting 700 hp to stick with just rwd is an artform in itself. I really wanna see a top speed run, the acceleration after 40mph is probably insane.

    The problem here is the tires. 275 rear tires on a 707 horsepower car is asking for traction problems. If this car had the viper rear tires it wold be a different story

  • @goatmonkey2112
    @goatmonkey2112 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This thing really needs some wider rear tires. You can see it hopping sideways during the 1-2 shift. It will be interesting if they put this engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    • @WilliamCWayne
      @WilliamCWayne 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I read somewhere that they actually couldn't fit larger tires without dramatic changes to the rear. As it was, they had to modify the rear fender well to accommodate the 275s they have on there. 😒
      Big oversight on the original design if you ask me... then again, there is a smaller amount of rolling resistance between this and, say, a ZL1's rear tires. Not sure if hat makes up for the wheelspin though.
      Edit: I'm currently under the belief that the hemmed fenders for the 275s was for the benefit of the *front* wheels. Especially when considering what past Challengers have run in the back, and that Dodge themselves used a 305 drag radial on the stock rims in the back.
      275s should be plenty big for the front...

    • @goatmonkey2112
      @goatmonkey2112 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Somebody will figure out a way to do it aftermarket. I had a 99 Mustang GT which was about 260hp, I put 275 width tires on the back and even that could get a little wheelspin. It's not close to enough for this car. I think the ZL1 has around 305 or 315 in the back. That would be a nice improvement, but still even that might not be enough for a good consistent hard launch.

      @WilliamCWayne 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      i really hope they make a Hellcat Jeep Grand Cherokee. Idk for sure if they will, but SRT is adding a few more models soon. Dart, Journey, and possibly the Durango I think.

    • @WilliamCWayne
      @WilliamCWayne 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It turns out that the Hellcat is running negative camber on the rears to aid in cornering (and maybe all Challengers do this - I'm not sure).
      This is reducing the contact patch of the rear tires during straight-line acceleration - though I'm not sure by how much.
      Current speculation is that squaring the rear tires would 'greatly' improve traction for launches. I still believe more rubber would be better as well...the only questions I have is how more rubber and/or 0 camber on the rears would affect handling. Would wider tires offset the camber loss?

    I see a lot of comments below making it seem like it's easy to put 700hp on the ground effectively in a factory car. A friend of mine has a sleeper Mustang 5.0 with the same power as the Hellcat. Since it's street legal, he has normal wheels and tires on it. The whole car looks stock as long as you don't open the hood. He can't go wide open throttle until he hits third gear.

    I have a Tesla Model S P85. (4650lbs) The manufacturer's power figure is 416hp and I've seen it dyno-tested at 444hp. Anyone can do 0-60 times below 4.5 seconds in it, and I did it in 4.19 the very first time I measured it. There is no launch control, you just stomp the accelerator like you're trying to kill a cockroach. I'd like to see Dodge demonstrating the 0-60 times they're claiming. In fact from now on, I would like all manufacturers to have videos of 0-60 attempts to back up their 0-60 claims. This is a great video, that shows the car can't really do what Dodge is claiming. I think this Dodge car needs all-wheel-drive to make its 700hp more usable by regular owners.

    • @bloggulator

      I don't have a Tesla (unfortunately lol) - but a friend of mine has the P85 like yours and has clocked 0-60 in 3.8/3.9 seconds for 0-60. I have read of a number of Model S (P85) owners claiming similar results - using a fully charged battery, that is.

    Love the challenger, but theres so much power to this car it just over spins the tires off the line, the only way you'll reach the 3 second range is if the tires don't over spin. Which will rarely happen. Thats why he's hitting the 5 second range.

    Ok dodge let's give you some tips
    1:Give it some weight reduction,carbon fiber or something.
    2:Give it some wider sticker tires
    3:take off all AC and radio like the camaro to save more weight
    Then this car will defiantly haul ass.

    Woww...all the hype surrounding this car on Jalopnik had me excited. On Jay Leno's Garage the SRT guy said it does 11's, 10 on slicks in quarter miles.
    This is the same issue the Shelby GT500 had...couldn't break 4's with all that power.

    4.7 with the SRT track rep driving is pretty sad. Going to need 807hp to compete against a ZL1 or GT500 with that fat assed 4500lb tub.

    What people don't understand is, you're buying a car that will beat a Lamborghini at a fraction of the price. SRT recommends if you want to take your hellcat to the track you need to buy wider tires. The car can run a 10.8 second 1/4 mile with slicks.

    Tires might be too hot.. In one of the shots it looks like the tires are leaving a heap molten (not burnt or dry) rubber on the track. Seems probable that all the horsepower on a sunny day might just melt the tires off. But of course, I'm no expert! Such a good sounding machine.

    for all those people whining how 707hp/650ft-lbs cant go faster then 4.7. there is more to it then just sheer power guys. its having difficulties because of traction issues, the tires just are not wide enough for it. 275's are what I put on the back of my V6 jeep. this thing needs a 305 or wider tire. my second point is weight, this thing weight as much as my jeep (4260lbs) as we all know, weight hurts acceleration. and lastly, looks who's driving it, someone who spends most of there time reviewing econo-boxes and family cars.

  • @mrksts1
    @mrksts1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The solution is simple: it needs the tires from the Z-28 (310 section pirelli P-ZERO Trofeo) These cars leave the factory with 275/40ZR20 All Season Performance Tires that are undersized and ill-suited for the power this car produces. This ought to have Viper tires (345 section)

    This video just speaks volume why the Hellcat isn't all that great in controlling the power to get a good grip. Any grandma can get to 60mph in about 2.5 seconds in a Tesla Model S P100D every time because of much superior automatic torque management.

    I had a very hard time believing the original numbers from Dodge, in the first place. I have used Pirelli PZeros before (the ones I used were 285s, unlike the 275s on this one) and they aren't that great at hooking up. I can imagine how hard it is getting them to hook with that much power.
    I will say that I'll really be impressed when it keeps up with its competitors in the twisties.

    Motor Trend claims they ran a 3.7s 0-60 time with the 8-speed auto on the stock tires on asphalt (a non-prepped surface) by starting in 2nd gear (and rolling on the power).
    I believe the differential gearing for the auto is something like 2.6 already, but if 1st gear is actually worthless for anything but burnouts, then perhaps an even taller rear gear would be a good idea? Might even improve highway fuel economy a good deal.

  • @brianzultowski5451

    Just not sure why people have to hate one car because it's not their style? I'm not into the fast "rice" burners but doesn't mean I think less of the people that do like them and drive them. I like this car, it's looks, it's sound, it's get up and go. Are there other cars that will beat it at the track and/or drag strip, absolutely, doesn't mean I won't be happy as hell driving this car.
    To each their own, no need to bash others decisions to buy this or that or whatever.
