That was the first video I saw of the Hellcat 7 years ago and fell in love when I was 13 years old, this week in 2022 I bought the Hellcat. Big dreams come true!!
Just a heads-up for those of you who doubt that this car can handle. It posted the exact same time as the Alfa Romeo 4C on Motor Trend's figure eight course-24.7 seconds. I think that's quite impressive. For me, the Hellcat is just about the perfect true GT-very comfortable in normal driving, real back seats, a very large trunk, good gas mileage for a performance car, tremendous acceleration, and very good handling. Add-in great looks and the $60,000 price, and it's very hard to beat. It's the complete package. I'll take mine in black, please.
Ford, dodge, chevrolet are playing like kids with HP i've got more than you! No! I've more than you!! NO!! I'VE GOT MORE THAN YOU!!! And this makes car guys happy :D
Eh im geting sick of the HP races, the power is becoming more and more useless. At least dodge got alot of the aspects right to use the power unlike ford with the GT500 Now with the 2015 ford is releasing a 500hp GT350 to compete with the Z28 and rumored 750 HP GT500 comeback.. more excited for the GT350 tbh
Did you watch the other motor trend test video, they dyno it and it's making way more than advertised. It put 671hp to the tire...so about 750+hp at the crank.
My first car was a 1965 4-door Dodge Coronet with a 225 slant six. I became a loyal Chrysler fan and owned or driven many of their products, muscle cars included. It's great to see the heritage of the muscle car revived. Enjoyed the video. Thanks and God bless all.
I reckon this is Justin's best review from the entire series. There is a certain fluidity that hooks you on, that some previous episodes failed to achieve. Well done Justin. And as for Chrysler, make it in RHD and bring it to Australia you sickos.
Thanks for bringing a real test drive to us. I mean I do enjoy watching TFL as they're amongst the first to show us this Hellcat online, but this is exactly what I've been waiting for.
At $60,000 dollars, this car is a steal. You get a 5 passenger car with a usable back seat, 20mpg, and 707 hp with a manual transmission. There is nothing else in that price range right now to compete with it.
OMG! Those are the stats? Im ready to trade my Infinity Q45 in for this car. Bad car!!! My Q is 340hp/333 lb ft torque 4.5 L V-8. It gets me on average 16.4 mpg. The Dodge is faster, more hp, same price and better gas mileage!
For almost a decade i loved the 1970 Challenger, it's just the perfect car in my eyes. V8, all about the engine - and the gorgeous shape. I really love it. But when they revealed the Hellcat, i think i love it just as much. It's not about the power. I wouldn't care if it had 600, 500 or just 350hp. As long as it still has this perfect shape. The new car looks better than the older models that i always thought looked a bit plump. It's perfect now. And the 707hp engine is one fine thing, especially as i love superchargers. I was basically addicted to the supersnake compressor sound. Now it's the same, but with the Challenger. I hope i can buy one in the next 5-6 years. Should be possible, saving on other stuff. I just love this car.
All I gotta say is congratulations Dodge, you've finally built a proper Challenger. This new hellcat version is just the cherry on top. I can't stop staring at this car, such a gorgeous looking car. The big stance and presence, the compliant and comfortable ride, and now this absurd amount of power. Well done to the team that created this masterpiece (coming from a diehard GM guy).
VirusTornado Where the hell are you getting that "100k" from??? The Z28 ranges from $75,000 base to $76,400 with all options. BTW the one that beat the GTR and 911 Turbo around Barber was a Z/28 with the AC and Sterio option.
Car is out of control in a good way. It's over-the-top and brash. Just appreciate the car, ignore who makes it. When a company does something right, just let it be. The world is big enough for everyone, even Chrysler.
Hats off to SRT and Mr Giles for having the balls to make the beast. Wish you would have put that power train in a 300 though. Oh well I will have to stick with my 392 for the time. Life could be worse.
Great car, great engine! Not a over priced BMW go cart. Its a full sized heavy car that hauls ass and is practical. I cant afford one but do own a 2007 RT and love it! I can just imagine what this car is capable of. Good work Dodge!
Gignormous HP and acceleration aside, what I think what most impressed me about this amazing car was the seeing how it handled at the track and watching it take corners with such grace and balance for such a heavy car. Dodge really got their act together with this beast. It will be fun to see some head-to-head comparos with the Camaro ZL1 and the Shelby GT500.
Justin Bell is the best.. Words cannot describe his uncanny ability in being funny... Serious .. And the ability to thrash the Hellcat.. All being calm and collected
Fantastic video over the HellCat! Great Job Motor Trend I love your little CGI or what ever computer graphics that y'all put in like at 1:23. Defiantly adds a nice touch and brings y'all ahead of the game in terms of the viewing experience.
SVT MATT LOL yeah Dodge is a bit late to the party. Glad they stepped the game up. Chevy and Ford were taking no prisoners for a majority of the production run of this car. Take care.
This 'guy' won Le Mans in his class once, and last year he entered a Lamborghini Blancpain endurance race and won it with him driving and commenting at the same time, just to show us that he knows how to drive. + He is a very witty man.
Great video. Love to see a MoPar back on top in the horsepower wars, especially a HEMI. Reminds me of the 1960's and early 1970's. Glad to see Dodge is paying attention to the whole package, and making sure that the rest of the car performs as well as the engine.
Taking the crown from Ford is short lived, when the new 750+hp Mustang comes out probably SVT with carbon ceramic brakes the hellcat will be left in the dust!
Hell of a review. The Hellcat is a breath of fresh air in this age of small displacement, turbocharged performance. That being said, I think the the '15 SRT 392 would be my choice as the perfect driving car. 485hp and a 6 speed manual is more than enough to keep me satisfied.
It'll still weigh 4,000 lbs. But 671 at the wheels is more than a Corvette ZR1, and as shown by the Gen 5 ZL1, a 4,000 pound car can still do well on a racetrack. They can strip it out, and make the Z/28 of Challengers. I will love to see people stop saying that it's a boat that doesn't handle.
I will take a Ford Mustang GT over this car any day. Sure, if both cars are stock then Hellcat will be much faster than the Mustang but it's also twice as expensive. Throw in 10k for a nice twin turbo from Hellion and the Mustang will be running 11.2 1/4 mile on a bad day with stock everything else. Even with the Twin Turbo, you still have around 20k that you can spend on this car or elsewhere. Unless you really like the look of this car and money is not an issue, then I don't see why you wouldn't just get the 5.0 and tune it to your liking. Like if you agree :)
because everyone gets mustangs. its just not special anymore like the way seeing a z28 or a hellcat on the road would be. plus the supercharger is on warranty. if you mod a mustang and you still make payments, there goes your warranty.
Please Dodge, keep this MUSCLE car big and mean looking. Many younger girls and boys won't buy this car and I like that. Mustangs are such soccer mom and girl cars.
top gear (UK) should do a review of this with Jezza or Cpt.slow, cpt, slow's will be hilarious and in the end they should do like a drag race with a OP car and see how that'll turn out
***** wait wait wait.....he said he didnt really like the 2015 ZO6 during the news and he called the gt500 cheap. well he did enjoy it and made a huge speach about Carroll Shelby(I LOVED HIM FOR THAT)
sik59rt There is no way I would want a valet to have access to the black key's 500 hp...or my wife for that matter. if there is a valet mode, it should be limited to 30mph and 2500rpm.
sik59rt No, the black key is not a valet key. I've seen that written in a few articles, but it's flat out wrong. The valet mode is engaged with the touchscreen after creating a 4-digit PIN, forces 2nd gear starts, rev limits to 4000 and prevents disabling of the traction control. It's also supposed to limit engine output further, but I haven't seen if it's 'just' to 500hp like the black key, or if it's much more than that. This mode can be enabled regardless of which key is in use.
Not hating, it's a very fast car but I saw a whole lot of oversteer, and I feel like it's gonna be another nissan gtr, everyone is gonna love it and start comparing to supercars and say why would you pay 200k+ for a supercar when you can pay 60k and get a challenger but it's whatever it's still a fast car
not really i highly doubt it... the gtr is known for its awd system and the stupidly fast acceleration, something this car lacks (at least the awd system) but yes, i think people will love it just like the current shelby
Everybody says the Hellcat can run 10.8 drag radials, when a 2013 GT500 with drag radials is also capable of running 10.7-10.8. That Challenger is awesome but overhyped. EDIT: LOL IT DOESN'T TOP 200 mph!!! 199 mph, GT500 does 202 mph, and it's been proven to. Most likely the weight factors in with the top speed.
Sounds like you need to actually drive some cars. I've driven the GT500. Great car, but cramped and harsh ride with no back seats for adults. Meanwhile the Hellcat has room for 4 or 5 and tons of room without the harshness. And it is LIMITED to 199. It can go faster. These cars are about having choices. I have a family and the Hellcat is the 1st muscle-car that makes sense.
Aaron Green and watch for run over your piece of shit ford good day idiot also if you watch the K&N dyno test you realize it is still pulling when the dash registers 202 so technically its faster so don't try and correct me if you don't know the facts goodbye. hahah
Tesla Haxz Tesla your a moron with this sliding crap your making up. First of all its one of the biggest and heaviest of all muscle cars, and 2nd, hes probably doing 60-80-mph around those corners. Thats pretty awesome corner cutting to me buddy. Do us a favor and get off this page with that negativity. You must hate yourself looking in mirror!
Lol, someone woke up on the wrong side of their mother this morning. Listen kid, that is the point, it is a MUSCLE CAR. It SUCKS at handling. It doesn't matter how heavy it is, it's a rwd car that is shaped like a brick and is therefore as aerodynamic as a brick. It might be fast, but it should stay off the track. Go cry to someone else with YOUR negativity, k?
From looking at another video on this car its less impressive than all the hype its been given. Does 0-60 in about 4.8 maybe 4.6 if your lucky. For 700 hp thats not that great. Seems like its weight is its main issue.
Unless you're a race car driver, no point owning this. I have an rt get pulled over going 14 over. You can't play much in these cars. Ticket magnets. I also have a camaro and mustang. Challenger doesn't handle corners as good as the other 2. Challenger is the most comfortable to drive though and I like the design the best. It's a fun car but it's not perfect.
You probably don't monitor the responses anymore. I know its an older Challenger video but I still watch even after all these years. Justin was most excellent. I will own either the Hellcat or Challenger T/A 392.
hahaha all the mustang and camaro fanboys are pissed this thing now rapes the best they can put out. Honestly its just good competition and competition raises the quality of cars in time so stop with the fanboy shit and be happy that this AMERICAN muscle car kicks ass
Ryan Mc With NHRA certified street legal drag slicks, the Challenger ran a 10.2 second 1/4 mile. I'm glad more people than me think in 1/4 mile times....i'm sick of hearing about all this 0-60 bullshit.
***** whats cool bout this car, is you get to have all that kick ass performance, and you got all that room, and when u get where your going, you don't feel like you have had the shit kicked out of you. ive owned gt mustangs, and they are just too damn small. this is really a cool compromise in a complete package. the new Pitch color would be much better though.lol
707hp and can't go 200mph not to mention the gt500 goes 200mph with 662hp and zr1 with 638hp and from a 40 roll they both destroy this kitty cat. Also this car does 10.8s on DRs in a automatic while the zr1 does that a slower shifting 6 spd. Lol less weight please.
I love the look of the Challenger, I loved the 392, but at 470hp it couldn't put it to the pavement. It ran the same times as the Camaro SS(4.7 0-60, 13.0 1/4), and the Mustang 5.0 beat both(4.3 0-60, 12.7 1/4) and it cost a LOT more. Now it's taken them years to catch up, they literally said we need to dethrone the GT500 because fuck Carrol Shelby's legacy, and they copied the Mustang Boss track key. They're so far behind it's pathetic, look at Mustang and Camaro they're both focusing on NA track versions with around 500hp because that's the sweet spot and the future of American Muscle. Dodge only did this because they wanted the title "Most powerful production V8 in the world" the new Viper was a disgrace that got beat by the out going ZR1, SRT publicly cried and screamed and had to come out with the TA. The C7 smokes the Viper all day, and watch the C7 Z06 Set such a platform SRT can never catch up. We may see the death of SRT....
Love this true American muscle car. Love the fact that he wore no helmet....fricken awesome!!!! I'm definitely interested in owning one. Bad ass ride man!!!
Imagine that, everything I've been saying confirmed and out of a Britt's mouth no less!!!! Haha ;o) The 2015 Challenger Hellcat is simply THE BEST!!!!!! :o)
I believe that this is one of the greatest SRT made. I have the 08 one and I love it. I didn't bought the car for HP or 0-60 f***. I bought it because this car is badass character. And that's the way it should be. That's how you fell when you drive the car.
I'd have to agree. The challenger is all about retro style and having that badass muscle car vibe, and you need a stick shift to get that full experience. I'd sooner take a GTI with the DSG than a Challenger with an automatic.
What a joke of a car. 4,400 lbs, 20 inch wheels, automatic transmission, supercharged V8, etc. A spec sheet like that belongs on an Escalade or Range Rover.
That was the first video I saw of the Hellcat 7 years ago and fell in love when I was 13 years old, this week in 2022 I bought the Hellcat. Big dreams come true!!
One day i will too have a redeye in red/green/grey color, one day for sure.
Happy because your dream has come true, live a great 💕 life my friend.
20? bro you sell drugs?
I bought mine this year at 26! Same car just a real car with a manual gear box! Congratulations on your purchase!

Steve Rogers yea and 4C is garbage
Ford, dodge, chevrolet are playing like kids with HP
i've got more than you!
No! I've more than you!!
NO!! I'VE GOT MORE THAN YOU!!!
And this makes car guys happy :D
yep :)
Deffinetly
Well dodge has the charger, challenger, and viper. Chevys got the corvette and camaro, and fords got well fords got the mustang
StarFloGaming Chevy also has the SS

700 horses for only 65k, that is the bargain of the century!!
He was way to nice about how slow the car is, that's why they don't time it on the track.
Did you watch the other motor trend test video, they dyno it and it's making way more than advertised. It put 671hp to the tire...so about 750+hp at the crank.
Such a great car, I really really want one :)
Hi EK !
Hi EK !
Toni Sukles Hey :)
Sweet car ek! And hello! :D

Hey look! A nearly 10 minute video that I don't have to pay monthly for!
Never change Motor Trend, never change
It changed...

There is nothing else in that price range right now to compete with it.

jeffjenine IF you keep your foot out of it, which will quite hard.
What dealer has them for $60k? GT500's were supposed to be like $40k or $45k, they went for $65k.
B Baker a dealer in my area had a steady supply of them comming in at 65k for them to bad they are all back ordered until September now!

Can't wait for the Hellcat Charger
They should do it with the Chrysler 300 as well and really stick it to the Germans.
There won't be a 300 SRT past 2015 unfortunately
sik59rt in 2016 there will be a new 300
Man I normally am not a fan of the modern day muscle car but I am in love with the hellcat
He pretty much covered all the bases. Great review!
I love the whine of the supercharger. My father had the original challenger when I was a kid.
Love to see it head to head with the. $80K Z28
Don't you mean 100k? + Don't compare them, they're totally different.
on a track, the z/28 would destroy the challenger
Dylan Sumski Exactly.
VirusTornado Where the hell are you getting that "100k" from???
The Z28 ranges from $75,000 base to $76,400 with all options. BTW the one that beat the GTR and 911 Turbo around Barber was a Z/28 with the AC and Sterio option.
This a nice car and all but the Z28 Camaro and Super Snake Shelby would destroy this. All of Dodge's vehicles are super heavy.
Very nice driving. It displayed the Hellcat's abilities in a good light. I nominate this drive as one of the best this year.
Can't wait for a Head to Head; Shelby vs. Hellcat!
Best episode yet Justin...I bet you just sold a bunch of these things!
They actually done 202 mph in the Hellcat so it is the in 200+ mph club
Yeah on a dyno I believe.
BoiFast i dont know if its on a dyno i just saw the picture of the speedometer on a car website but maybe dynoed
Not sure I'd be comfortable driving a brick like that at 200mph! Hopefully this new Hellcat version also comes with increased downforce.
Adam S larger rear spoiler and redesigned front splitter gives it much more downforce than the out going challenger.
I Am Riot Lion lol the GT500 can hit over GT500 hit over 211 mph on the dyno
I think the best part of this video was the music between 5.35-5.42. Great stuff.
Car is out of control in a good way. It's over-the-top and brash. Just appreciate the car, ignore who makes it. When a company does something right, just let it be. The world is big enough for everyone, even Chrysler.

First time they've ever done supercharging spells engine trouble but hey it's warrantied 707HP, what more could you ask of them?
Lemme guess, you're one of the many GT500 guys over one SVTPerformance.com forums scared of this car?
No way, 707hp is bad ass, I'd take one in black. Little late to the party but better late than never.

Consumer Reports did. It got great ratings. :o)
I'm with you. The 5.7L is a good city/trac/drag balance. Makes sense drive it everyday

Justin's really come along. Solid video.
Just have to wait and see what the new Hellcat with the lighter chassis will do;-)
750hp and 500lbs lighter...that sound like fun.
It'll still weigh 4,000 lbs. But 671 at the wheels is more than a Corvette ZR1, and as shown by the Gen 5 ZL1, a 4,000 pound car can still do well on a racetrack. They can strip it out, and make the Z/28 of Challengers. I will love to see people stop saying that it's a boat that doesn't handle.

no no no, Richard Hammond likes American cars. he does most of the reviews about them. i think he will love it
I fucking know, right? if he built a car in America, he would hate on it. BUT, I still love TOP GEAR
***** wait wait wait.....he said he didnt really like the 2015 ZO6 during the news and he called the gt500 cheap. well he did enjoy it and made a huge speach about Carroll Shelby(I LOVED HIM FOR THAT)
he has a 2014 stingray????
***** ok, thanks
AMAZING!!! Thanks for the spot on review and thanks for respecting the work that went into this car :)
There is no use for the red and black key. Which owner in his right mind would drive around with 200 less horsepower than what they paid for?
A married one (black key for the wife)
The children can take the red key...after I lock the car into valet mode.
It's for a valet
sik59rt There is no way I would want a valet to have access to the black key's 500 hp...or my wife for that matter. if there is a valet mode, it should be limited to 30mph and 2500rpm.
sik59rt No, the black key is not a valet key.
This mode can be enabled regardless of which key is in use.
annarbor84 Lol...I'll see you on the 11 o'clock news.
Your best review yet Jason.
Thank you.
THIS is the video for all the people that believe the Challenger can't handle...
Over steering around every corner doesn't get you the best lap times
Bet you al that say that, none have driven one
What a machine! Great second car to enjoy as a weekend play thing or drag strip hooligan! Love it!
Not hating, it's a very fast car but I saw a whole lot of oversteer, and I feel like it's gonna be another nissan gtr, everyone is gonna love it and start comparing to supercars and say why would you pay 200k+ for a supercar when you can pay 60k and get a challenger but it's whatever it's still a fast car
except the GTR is actually a damned good car lol
LegacyOfFear lol true
LegacyOfFear So is the Hellcat... It might not beat a GTR around a track but then, not a lot of cars will. For 60k, find a faster car than this.
***** finally someone understands
not really i highly doubt it... the gtr is known for its awd system and the stupidly fast acceleration, something this car lacks (at least the awd system) but yes, i think people will love it just like the current shelby
Excellent review! man motor trend is has gone somewhere!
And on K&N dyno it did 202 so back your shit up
Michael Mebine Motortrend dyno the shelby gt500 and it hit 211 mph
next comment kid
Aaron Green and watch for run over your piece of shit ford good day idiot also if you watch the K&N dyno test you realize it is still pulling when the dash registers 202 so technically its faster so don't try and correct me if you don't know the facts goodbye. hahah
Like a linebacker with amazing footwork.
Oh man! This car just can't do corners.
that's the downside to having a lot of horsepower and being heavy
Sliding is not handling corners well.
That is the greatest thing I've ever seen, I'm a big fan of the 2 key set up
From looking at another video on this car its less impressive than all the hype its been given. Does 0-60 in about 4.8 maybe 4.6 if your lucky. For 700 hp thats not that great. Seems like its weight is its main issue.
Just looks amazing drifting around corners
The front of the hellcat looks nothing like the 71' like they said, it looks like a roadrunner.
You really think a car would look like its 45 year old grandfather?
No i meant the regular 2015 looks like the 71, but the hellcat looks like a roadrunner.
Anthony Vaccaro actually it looks more like a cuda
+Christan Gonzalex What year? Cause i dont see it, but to each his own.
Chrysler could literally rename it 2015 Plymouth Barracuda Hellcat SRT.
Hey Justin! This is Antonio we met at the gas station. Thank you for the picture you made my day.
Are they going to make a Hellcat Charger?
yes:)
They are!
Wow, thats gonna be awesome
yeah, i dont think they've said if its gonna be AWD or RWD but i hope to god its gonna be AWD it would be a rocket! give the GTR a run for its money
I just hope it looks like a 2014 and before, not that goofy looking 2015 DART looking clown car
This is why I am so in loved with muscle cars
It's an auto.... A 707hp muscle car with an automatic transmission... Just... Why
Correction!!! It has a manual flappy paddle. But no 6, 7, or 8 speed manual stick shifter. Disappointing SRT
Noah Paez The Vipers six-speed manual will be available with the Hellcat at production.
jarednevin Thank GOD
Because it's faster with the 8 speed more convenient and u can use paddle shifters
Dukiny Gaming Yes but the feeling of a manual is special and iconic for an american muscle car.
I've been waiting for this review! It was awesome, thanks Justin Bell
hahaha all the mustang and camaro fanboys are pissed this thing now rapes the best they can put out. Honestly its just good competition and competition raises the quality of cars in time so stop with the fanboy shit and be happy that this AMERICAN muscle car kicks ass
The GT500 had a faster 1/4mile time. I'm not sure about the track, but most likely the Challenger will not be faster since it's a lot heavier.
Ryan Mc Funny, I distinctly heard that NHRA certified the Hellcat as being faster than the POS Ford.....maybe you better watch the video again....
It doesn't matter if you are a Dodge, Chevy or a Ford guy now...right now is a great time to be a car lover. POWAAAAAH!
100% ! drive these as long as the restricting politicians let you.
Lol less weight please.
adam adams those are hypercars you idiot....
Guess what zr1 and gt500 are both faster then the kitty cat lol you mad.
First fastest car show that I have enjoyed, the Kat had a lot to do with it.
Lol
60k no thanks. I rather have an audi or bmw
When you get older, going fast is about the most fun you can have.
Automatic, that is a disgusting transmission to have as an option for this car.
So glad they give a 6 speed manual option.
Why? They are going to sell more of them BECAUSE it comes in automatic! Dodge is being smart.
Nitrotech23
Not to mention that 8 speed is supposed to be fantastic.
Nitrotech23
Fuck that shit. Proper gearbox or you're a scrub driver.
Thats fine, I'm not trying to impress anybody. I'm happy with my dual clutch automatic GTI
I'd have to agree. The challenger is all about retro style and having that badass muscle car vibe, and you need a stick shift to get that full experience. I'd sooner take a GTI with the DSG than a Challenger with an automatic.
Holy crap, is this Ridge Racer in Real Life? So much drifting, I love it :D
What a joke of a car. 4,400 lbs, 20 inch wheels, automatic transmission, supercharged V8, etc. A spec sheet like that belongs on an Escalade or Range Rover.
I had to google the 4400 lbs because I couldnt believe it..... thats fuckin heavy.... and not even a double clutch auto
Pretty sad, huh.
Ok, you take the escalade, and see who gets to the bar first. Don't tell me you wouldn't take the red key, and tell the wife to meet ya later.
If this car were given to me, it would be on ebaymotors immediately
Thank you very much to the big 3 for producing pure American muscle.
